For longer than anyone could remember, only one thing stood between the people of Remnant and total annihilation: Huntsmen. Huntsmen were people who could use the power of their auras, along with a mystical element called 'Dust', to fight the evil forces of Grimm and keep the world safe. There was also the shadow war waged between two ancient beings, Ozpin and Salem, that raged on causing many a loss of life in their chess game.
That was until someone had enough. That someone was Yuki Azure, leader of Team YUKI. After being revealed secrets thanks to the likes of the Goddess of Time, he and his team were given a second chance. And they went for the juglar.
Yuki Azure used his semblance to invent a new weapon to fight against the Grimm. He created Automated floated sentry powered by a new kind of white Dust created by Ivory, while harmless against beings with auras, could kill a Grimm of any size in one shot. This new Dust was called 'White Noise'. In campaign after campaign, Team YUKI lead the sentry is battle after battle wiping out Grimm left and right. Even the mighty dragon was no much. Yuki had offered this to the other kingdoms for a price. Each member of Team YUKI had a steep price, Yuki's alone would mean signing the death warrants for thousands, but the needs of more drove them to sign. Grimm were wiped out from most of the planet and humanity began flourishing and expanding like never before. Yuki and his allies made made themselves quite wealthy selling this off to other Kingdoms in need of it to reduce Grimm.
But all was not well. Huntsmen, previously heroes of the people, suddenly became expensive luxuries rather than necessary defenders, and so the public began turning against them. It had not helped that Yuki aired out the dirty laundry about Ozpin botching the investigation for his own. It all came to a head when the ruling council of Vale fired all its huntsmen without notice and without giving them any of their promised retirement benefits. Ozpin had fled Beacon as it was swiftly shut down. Some resisted this move, but those protests were met with deadly force. Many former Huntsmen were killed in the infamous 'crack'-down, one of whom was Taiyang Xiao Long. The other three kingdoms fired their Huntsmen as well soon afterwards, casting them off into the gutter. Of course, they were to be joined by another, the White Fang. The price for Yuki's technology was free reign to murder members of the White Fang, former and current. Yuki wanted payback for Adam's sins, and he wanted to take down the entire organization. The price they had to pay for the others is means for another story.
Of the Huntsmen and Huntresses who survived, some were lucky enough to reintegrate into society and begin living normal lives. Most, however, were not so fortunate.
Shunned by society and with no practical skills of their own, many were forced to turn to crime to make a living. This is a story of two of those Huntresses who were forced to fight to survive. This would be a story of family and loss, of triumph and failure, and of love and tragedy. But in reality, it's two who were thrust into a new world, a world they weren't prepared for.

"I'm sorry, Miss Xiao Long, but we can't hire you."
Yang thought she was she was a shoo in to get this job as a bouncer, but her record had once again shot her in the foot. She supposed Junior had the last laugh after all making sure to have it on her that she had property damage and assault on record. Yang groaned as she wished she had agreed to pay for damages and apolgize back then. Nope, her pride wouldn't allow it.
"Yeah, and that pride can't get me a job." Yang thought walking the streets of Vale.
She felt like crap as she went back to what was home. "Home" was a crappy apartment in a rundown neighborhood. She shuffled in before getting into her floor and into her apartment. She threw her jacket on the chair before sinking into the couch feeling unmotivated to do nothing but wallow in defeat. She got out Qrow's flask, the last thing of him that was left, and took a big gulp before settling to watch TV. Zwei could only whine seeing Yang look so bummed out.
Hours later, Ruby returned from her job. Unlike Yang, Ruby had a bit of a better reputation and the only thing that limited her was her age. However, she lucked out and got a job at a pet store which at least got her free dog food for Zwei. Ruby carried in a pizza box before putting it on the table so she could wake up Yang.
"Hey sis…" Yang said rubbing her eyes.
"How did it go?" Ruby asked.
"Awful. One look at my record and it was over." Yang said miserably. "Panhandling isn't really an option anymore either."
"Look, Yang. It'll get better and you'll get a job soon. You just need to broaden your horizons. I did ask my boss if he could take you on, and he'd consider it." Ruby said trying to cheer her sister up. "I got pizza."
Yang sighed and took a slice to eat looking at an old photo of "Team RWBY" that was taken shortly after they were formed. Yang did not want to be in Blake's position. From she should, she was on the run from the Vale police, the White Fang blaming her for Yuki wanting them all dead, and Yuki himself. However, she wished she was in Weiss's position. Having a cash flow and not slumming it sounds about nice.
Ruby got a pair of sodas out of the fridge giving one to Yang before taking the remote. Ruby checked the news hoping to check the stocks having put money down in one like her dad used to.
"In other news, Jaune Arc has managed to get his case of his fake transcripts to get into Beacon Academy a mistrial. Due to a legal technicality, he walks away a free man."
"So, I smash a club, and no one lets me forget it, but that asshole practically committed a felony only to get away scot-free." Yang said with her eyes faintly going red. "I'm telling you, it's legal bullshit."
"I mean, he has to go home to his family being revealed a lair and a cheater." Ruby said shoving another slice in her mouth.
"At least his family is still alive." Yang said coldly.
"I mean…Raven is still alive." Ruby said making a point.
"And hasn't come to see us or help us. She's continuing to make herself sarce. She did not even show up to the furneal." Yang said with disgust.
"We still owe the furenal home for that." Ruby said as Yang got up. "Where are you…"
"The gym. I need to punch something. Anything." Yang said getting on her shoes and a hoodie.
SLAM! Ruby was left alone with Zwei who whined. Ruby still had a bit of hope that things would get better. Sure, she couldn't exactly make her dream of being a huntress real, but at least the world was mostly safe.
BLAM! A scream could be heard in the distance. Ruby looked out of the window to see a mugger had shot one of her neighbors and take their wallet before speeding away on their motorcycle. Ruby sighed calling the cops but got her trusty Crescent Rose in hand before speeding out of the apartment. Being a cop was not her style, but being a vigilante was something she could get down in her down time.
(A/N: The idea for Ruby, herself, not to be jaded came from well…a thought I had. It would not be interesting to see both of them wallow in misery. No, Ruby having that ray of hope makes Yang's misery all the more saddening and interesting. A twisted sort of way, this is sort of RWBY Path of Shadows V2. Instead of being inspired by the likes of Something Unlimited, I've settled to take inspiration from several other games. But I bet you're wondering, what the others are up to? Well, leave a review. I want to hear guesses and thoughts.)
