Chapter 22: Ends.
You know that devastating moment when a relationship ends, not the kind of end with a hope of getting back together, but a final end. It was happening now. It wasn't sudden. He didn't wake up one morning and find his relationship was over. No, it was a gradual with all the telltale signs slapping him in the face.
Their relationship had been of the best kind for years, with all giving and no taking. The other was always ready to go whenever and wherever Bakura wanted. Adventure time, not a problem. Cruising coast lines in high-speed chases easy, robberies a breeze, raiding tombs or assassinating important people of high class or political stature, hellz yeah. Bakura had the perfect partner who was ready and willing for whatever he wanted, they'd go from dawn to dusk on lazy weekends or even all-nighters if he wished, it didn't matter. There were no complaints of 'sorry I'm too busy today. We'll do it tomorrow.' or 'I'm too tired right now.' Oh no, his partner was always ready and waiting from the moment Bakura walked in the front door or the moment he got up.
The end was coming, and he should have paid more attention. His partner for years started to slow and some days the other was just not there and no matter what Bakura did, his partner wouldn't acknowledge him, highly unusual.
His partner was sick Bakura thought one day and so to The Doctor they went. Bakura held his partner in his arms when given the bad news, his partner went under a temporary fix to keep going, but it wasn't to last. Bakura wasn't going to give up and sat through so many more Doctor visits, until the day came when it all ended. The Doctor shook his head and muttered the words, "It's over, kid."
Their relationship was over it came as a blow.
It ticked Bakura off. He took care of his partner well, put his time, money and effort, treated better than his own lover and this was how he was repaid. Bakura loved their relationship, the all giving, never asking, no complaints and no taking. It was all go all the time, by all means he wasn't a selfish person nor was he heartless, but it was a deal that came with the relationship. It wasn't him who had slowed down over the years but his partner, had it been him? Pushing too hard when he saw how well and effortlessly his partner had kept up, so much better and faster than his older partners had.
Tears filled Bakura's eyes as he stared down at the freshly dug gave in his backyard and a rock for a headstone, in the hole in the ground sat the cardboard box that contained his partner, due to the Doctor visits had left him a penniless-broken man, and it was the best he could do right at that moment, for his partner deserved better than a trash can. How lonely he was going to be when his lover was away at work, and he would have nothing to fill his time with now.
He could indulge in alcohol and reminisce of their relationship, and until he could laugh or sob himself to sleep. Tears in his eyes and the gaping hole in his chest that what they had together had been special, and now it had truly ended.
"Oh for goodness sake," Malik came out of the house with an umbrella and stood beside him. "Are you crying?" Malik said in a disbelieving tone.
"No," Bakura sniffled and wiped face with his arm.
"Well it couldn't be helped I guess," Malik sighed.
"But I loved it more than our bed, the shower, toaster, the tv and even-"
"If you say me I'll hit you and then I'll leave." Malik warned but despite the scene and the drama Malik felt sorry for his boyfriend all the same. "Come inside before you catch a cold." Malik turned about and headed inside.
"But I'm a broken-man who needs time to mourn!"
One thing Bakura was never short on and that was the melodramatics, "I'll buy you a new Xbox," Malik called out over his shoulder and then muttered to himself, "I'm fucking a moron."
I haven't been one for anguish stuff lately. This was to be taken with a grain of salt and something fun, which I hope you have all enjoyed. R&R (love and cookies)
