This time was working on a courier by bicycle. Mercury and Emerald refused to complain about it even if today was a scorcher. However, there was good fortune. A lottery ticket that they got had got them enough money to pay Torchwick off. Sure, it was going to leave them broken, but being free of Torchwick was worth it.

"Here's your money. All of the quarter million." Mercury said as him and Emerald flipped Roman off. "See you never, asshole."

By nightfall, they were out of the apartment and back at the docks waiting for the boat. They finally thought it was over. No one shitty jobs, no more shitty apartments, no more Vale. They were finally free!

"Why do I feel like I'm forgetting something?" Emerald said as Mercury looked out into the sea. "This all felt too easy."

"Emerald, don't jinx it. We can finally leave this all behind us. We put Roman and the Whit…oh…" Mercury said as they were surrounded by White Fang members. "Seriously?"

"Ah, did you really think we were going to not meet again?" Adam said coming up in a business suit. "Because of you, the White Fang no longer has a use for us. The humans gave us rights, but now the White Fang is all but over."

"Wait a second, but you guys got faunus rights. So, why hunt us down?" Emerald said making a valid point.

"Because we are a force of revolution." Adam proclaimed.

That was a lie. The real reason was because of the fact that Ozpin discovered the ties between Adam and Cinder. The four kingdoms had made a simple deal with Sienna Khan. Disavow the Vale branch of the branch and slowly dissolve the other ones in exchange for the rights you wanted for your people. After talking with Ozpin herself, Sienna accepted leaving Adam and his men social pariahs forced into further criminal acts considering they could reap what they always wanted.

"And now, you'll work for us. I heard Roman got his turn, and now it's ours. You got furneals, bail money, child supports, and so on to cover because of Cinder." Adam said deviously as he removed his mask. "Most important, you're going to work to pay for my surgery."

"Fine." Mercury said as Adam looked at them quizzically. "What? You expect us to fight all this? We'll do it and we'll be out of your hair. So, just give us jobs. We'll wait at our fucking apartment."

"Ok then." Adam said saddened they were not resisting.

Emerald and Mercury were back in the apartment not even bothering to unpack. They plopped down on the couch both sour.

"Emerald, we're back here again." Mercury said with a pained sigh. "But at least we're not dead."

"We may as well, this is our hell. For what? Doing the right thing?" Emerald said bitterly.

"Well, we did agree to help Cinder destroy a kingdom. If anything, we should be lucky that we're not in prison or social pariahs. But I can put up with Roman and Adam, because there's one thing that's worth it to me." Mercury admitted.

Emerald turned to ask only to get pulled into a kiss which she was a bit happy to return.

"Was that little speech a ploy to get in my pants or did you mean it?" Emerald asked.

"…A little of both." Mercury said as Emerald slipped off her top while getting on top of him.

"Well…we are in this together. Let's break in our couch." Emerald said sweetly.

(A/N: I'm going to do something different here. This time I'm going to take a break from this miniseries to take suggestions. What Sonic for Hire episodes (mainly the more job-centric episodes) do you want me to adapt? I was thinking Adam could be the "Mario" of this miniseries.)
