Chapter 3: Let's Go
I still can't believe dad thinks I'm not ready to enter tournaments yet. It's been 3 years when my training changed. I went from wearing my mom's childhood armor to a sport bra and joggers. Even though dad says my training isn't done, I wonder when will I be strong enough. "You do want to be as strong as your boyfriend?"
I look to my side to a giggling Lisa. "Oh, shut up." I flexed both my arms. "I'm clearly strong enough to take him down." That's when everyone laughed around me.
"Keep dreaming, princess. If the rumors are true that Goku took down the whole army, then you're nowhere near his level." I looked to Li as he sat next to me on a mat. "You're stronger than us but that's it."
Just then dad walked into the room. "Good morning, everyone." We all said good morning back. "Today we going to learn about controlling ki."
"What is ki?" I looked to Lisa before back to dad. For rest of that day we learned about all types of energy. Dad even went in-depth about energy flow and explaining the purpose of ki. After that dad gave us books about auras and chi. "That is so cool. And you're saying we can control it?"
"Of course. It takes lots of work and you can even use it as a weapon. For example, Master Roshi mastered controlling his ki into a blast, called the Kamehameha wave."
"Is that what he used to put out the fire about 5 years ago?" Dad nodded his head. And that's when I remembered how Goku was able to copy the master after watching once. Now I know I need to get better at using ki. "Dad?"
"What is it, Chichi?"
"Will we learn how to create the Kamehameha wave?"
"Yes, but it's not grantee that you will be able to pull it off. Especially if you don't work hard in your training."
Our ki training started a few days ago. I was in the mist of studying with one of my energy books as I listened in on the 22nd World Tournament. Whenever Goku's fight came up I stopped reading and listened carefully to the announcer. With very detail of the fight, I couldn't help become impressive. Goku was just amazing.
As impressed as I was, I did come to realize one thing. Everyone was right that I'm far behind Goku. And if I want to ever catch up, I have a lot to work on. With that thought I wonder how I could improve. Is there a way to train to get faster results? Or was I being held back keeping my training within my castle's domain?
That's when I got a great idea. I will travel for my training. With that in mind I went over to dad's study. "Dad, can I ask you something?"
He looked up from the pile of paperwork on his desk, and waved me over. "What is it, princess?"
"I was wondering for the rest of my training to travel." He had a blank stare before blinking for a moment. Dad then ran his hand over his bread in deep thought. After a few seconds he had a huge smile.
"That would be a great idea. And I could come along with you. I just have to make sure to bring my work with me, but that's a wonderful idea."
Oh no. Dad must have misunderstood me. I took a deep breath before speaking again. "I was referring that I travelled for my training. As in alone." He blinked before opening a drawer and pulled out a case, and then throwing it to me.
"That has camper and a few vehicles. Please, at least call me when you can."
I rushed over to him and gave dad a big hug. "Thanks dad."
That night, as I packed, Mrs. Ying rushed into my room. "Oh, thank goodness you're still her."
"What happened?"
"There's word that someone is killed a boy at the world tournament and stole the list of martial artists." She then came next to me. "Maybe it's best you stay close to home for the moment. At least," Mrs. Ying hugged me. "Until there's more news on what's going on."
I rushed to dad and was glad he was still in his study. "I change my mind." He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "You're coming with me."
…
As I waited in the restaurant, with everyone, I couldn't help shake this weird feeling. Something just wasn't right. I would look to Krillin's seat and wonder when he will return. Even when everyone seem to be having fun. I just couldn't stay calm. After a sometime I couldn't take it any more and went to find out why Krillin was so long.
I… I… I can't believe it! Why did I let him go alone? Why didn't I go with him? Maybe if I was with him then he wouldn't be… wouldn't be… dead! Even though he's in my arms, I still can't believe it.
I feel tears flooding from my eyes. NO! I don't have time for this. I need to find who kill Krillin. The monster that dared to kill my friend is going to pay. They are going to pay dearly for crossing me! I quickly grabbed my power pole and rushed out. Getting the dragon radar from Bulma and then I called forth for nimbus. No way that person is going to get far. I will find them!
When I finally caught up to Krillin's killer all I could see was red. Without thinking I went in for an attack. But with whenever I attacked it had no effect. In fact, I felt weak with every punch he landed. Before I knew it, I passed out. How did that even happen? How could I even lose?
When I came to, I could smell food. That's when I felt my stomach make itself known. I soon followed the scent and was greatly surprised by such a big fish. Oh, such a great find. I had just finished eating when a person with a sword came out the brushes and yelled at me.
As Yajirobe yelled at me, Tambourine appeared before us. This time around I was able to beat him, and then Yajirobe cut Tambourine in half. What happened next I was gross. How can Yajirobe even stomach eating that thing? Is this how Bulma and Oolong felt whenever I offered them food? Now I can't make fun of them anymore. Even I have standards.
After Yajirobe finished eating, he agreed to help me. We went in search of this King Piccolo person. Since he was the one who sent to kill off Krillin and other martial arts fighters. When we reached him, I was surprised by his strength. I couldn't believe how unmatched I was. But thankfully Yajirobe got me away in time, and I told him to take me to Korin.
After recovering from drinking the Ultra Divine Water I went on my way. Korin even gifted me another flying nimbus, since my old friend was destroyed. As I flew to find Piccolo, I heard a loud scream. For some reason I recognize that scream, and went to investigate.
When I got to where I heard the screaming, I saw it was a group of soldiers. When I looked to see who they were pointing their guns at I was surprised to see the Ox-King. And with him there was a girl next to him. For some reason she looked familiar. I walked over to them and when the girl smile is when I recognize who she was. "Chichi!" We ran into each other and hug. "You look so different. I almost didn't know who you were."
That shade of pink began to cross her face, as she looked away. "It's nice to see you again."
"Excuse me! Don't ignore us." I looked back to the soldiers before killing the guns out their hands. "Don't hurt us. We're only following orders."
"Where is King Piccolo?"
"He's heading to the capital."
"Leave." They all shook before running away. I then walked back to Ox-King and Chichi. "Will you two be ok?"
"Yeah," Chichi then hugged. "Thank you, Goku." For some reason my cheeks started to burn.
I looked over to Ox-King. "Which was to the capital?" He then pointed me in the right direction.
"Good luck." I smiled at Chichi as I said thanks. With that I got back on nimbus and flew off to the capital.
As I faced off King Piccolo, it was still a challenge. But there was no way was I going to give up. So many people depend on me winner this fight. Even when my felt broken, I took every last bit of my strength and attacked him one more time. I was proud that I was able to defeat him. But I was disappointed that the dragon balls were useless.
As I tried to stay awake Yajirobe showed himself. He told me how Korin stated how there's a way to revive the dragon. Thankfully Yajirobe drove me to Korin Tower. After eating a senzu bean, Korin informed me that Kami can bring back the dragon. And how Kami was above the us. "So, how am I supposed to get to him?"
"That power pole of yours is the key." With that said, we climbed to the roof and placed the pole. "Good luck my friend."
When I got to Kami's Lookout I was greeted by a strange person. He stated if I wanted to see Kami, I had to face him. With every attack I did he easily avoided it. It was almost as if he could read my every move. Which was irritating me. But as the days went by it was as if I wasn't making any progress. "You should just give up and leave."
"Never."
"That temper of yours will get the better of you." I tried going in for a punch, but he moved so quick I didn't even see it. "You're not worthy of meeting Kami."
"Let me be the judge of that, Mr. Popo." I quickly looked back to the building behind us, and was in shocked. There was no way what I saw was real.
Just seeing him made me so confused. I thought I had killed him. "You monster!" I tried going after him, but Mr. Popo held me back.
"You don't understand."
"It's King Piccolo! What's more to understand!"
He walked closer to me, and tapped his staff. "I do apologize young one. I do indeed appear the same as Piccolo but he is not I. My name is Kami." I started to calm down and then Mr. Popo let me go. "But he will return and you are not ready."
"What!"
"If you help me truly defeat him, I will help you bring back your friends."
"You can do that?"
"You just have to agree to staying here to train for the next 3 years."
"If that's all, I'll gladly—"
"Agreeing would mean that you can't see your friends for these 3 years. You won't be able to leave until your training is over."
After some thought I looked back up to Kami. "I'll do it."
…
I still can't believe we were surrounded. Even after I was able to fight off a few soldiers, until they brought out their guns. Daddy's ax was able to shield us, but for how long? The ax was started to crack and I couldn't stop myself from screaming. How were we going to survive bullets?
But suddenly the bullets stop coming. I took a chance and looked past dad's ax and I couldn't believe who I saw. It was no other then Goku. "Chichi!" I couldn't hold back as I ran over and hugged him. I was so scared, but seeing him made it all better. It took a moment for me to let go, and when I did is when I noticed I was still taller than him. But besides that, if it wasn't for his hair or boyish face, I don't think I would have recognized him. He looked stronger than I remembered. "You look so different. I almost didn't recognize you."
I couldn't help look away. It felt amazing to hear him compliment me. Especially since I been working so hard, and no longer wear my mother's childhood armor. "It's… it's nice…" I couldn't believe I was stuttering. I took a deep breath before looking back at him. "It's nice to see you again."
"Don't ignore us." I watched as Goku knock the guns out of the soldiers hands. It was so impressive witnessing him. He was just so dreamy, but it also got me wondering. Maybe I too could do what can do.
Before Goku left we shared one more hug. With that he was off, and I was back to my own training.
