Chapter 5: Not So Romantic Dinner
Some minutes earlier
After realizing that the weird landlady, thankfully, won't come back and watch us, we both prepared ourselves to continue the chores.
"Anyway, we need to start cleaning again." Hikigaya muttered to me before he headed to a door that leads to my room.
"Woah, woah, woah. Hold on, did you know it's rude to enter girl's room?" I definitely not panicked. Really. I really never see him as my grandma who grumbled every times she enter my room.
His eyes squinted and forcefully pierce through my soul, trying to fish out a truth from my miserable excuse that was too hastily created. Several seconds passed as I sweats bullet under his excruciating gaze, and finally, he released me from the clutch of death.
Seriously, what is he? My mom? Yeah, the bastard keep remind me a lot about her. I hate that.
He sighed in defeat at my pleading gaze and released the grips on my room's door. Also note to myself, Hikigaya seems to be weak with puppy eyes or crying girl. Almost after he turn his back to me, I quickly beamed in pure happiness while pumping my fist in the air as I succeeded at making sure I won't getting scolded anymore.
"What was that?" In the flash of light, I tried my damnedest to put my best straight face faster than he could turn his head to me.
He looked at me suspiciously yet once again, making nervousness began to rise from the bottom pit of my mind. My legs trembles before him and his cold gaze. This time however, there was a help from Mother Nature and I had without a doubt need to answer her call.
"Sorry I had to take the bathroom." He blinked in surprise and squeaked a confused noise once I dashed my way toward the bathroom.
The funny thing is, I genuinely wanted to piss but I also don't want to get scrutinized by him again. It's a total win-win haha! Call it childish or whatsoever, but this is totally my victory. Yeah, at least this is my victory.
The next one, was like, I don't think so.
As soon as I opened the door leading to the holy bathroom, all hell literally break loose.
-oOo-
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
A literal banshee shriek suddenly came from where Miura had went into, probably bathroom.
But what the heck was that? Did something happens?
I quickly made my way toward the source with a lot of thought rushing in my mind. But I gotta tell you that being greeted by someone glomping down on me wasn't one of the things I was expecting. Long story short, I was freaked out. Luckily, I was still able to stand with my two legs even with the new addition of weight cradling tightly on me.
With face buried at my shoulder, it was the ever flaming fiery queen who actually not really blazing right now. Yeah, it was suck for being the flaming one today, especially if it was me.
Both of her thin arms were circling behind my neck with surprising amount of strength that I began to fear for my spine's health right now. Actually, I really need to fear for it since she was cradling my lower back with both of her legs as if it was her dear life at the stake, I got to say, it was really strong. She was basically pressed against my body so close that I could practically hear her chest beating loudly.
Of course that's not the only problem.
From whatever point of view, Miura Yumiko was a girl who had a pretty generous size on her breasts part, and it was just really not advantageous for me, a hormonal teenager with abundance amount of curiosity, at this risky position since the two soft and plump lump of meat were on my chest at this very moment.
Needless to say, my face blossomed into red fest that it could replace the light bulb for the darker room.
Too close! Too close! Too close!
My nostrils were soon invaded by her body scent that strangely smell sweet despite the work we both had done before this. It was pleasant and I could feel my mind slowly drowning in it. And the ticklish sensation from her whimpering breath was really not helping at all.
And I would really appreciate if she could just stay still on my torso like a good sloth on tree trunk! For Kami's sake! Please woman, stay the hell down! Stop squirming like that or we both will fall into a much more complicated situation!
Trying to distract my mind from her weirdly arousing noise or thinking wildly about her thigh, I looked around our surrounding, trying to find the source of this blondie's distress. That's when I noticed the small little creature resembling a cockroach that I could have sworn it has some kind of cute smiling face with pair of eyes looking at us happily.
What the heck!? Even cockroach laughed at this miserable cruel joke created by Kami-sama? This world had a sick sense of humor, really.
Realizing that it was the origin of this mess, I quickly tried to shoo it away, which was proved to be easier to say than done. You see, my hand, or anyone else, was practically impossible to move let alone reach the little black thing.
The other resort was using my leg. But that method has a really high risk since I would sacrifice one of my standing pillar and not to mention I'll also undoubtedly lean back a bit.
Eventually, I sighed in defeat and hoped that my somewhat trained leg would be able to endure some huge strain. Time is running short, and I'm not sure my bottom would be able to hold it any longer. Which exactly I'm talking about is up to your guess. Long story short, holding your certain body part to not 'awaken' is possible to do, but it was really unpleasant in the mind department.
I'm literally thinking some super fucked up stuff in my head right now. It does help, but only in the short term. I don't think I will able to sleep soundly tonight.
After inhaling a long breath and filling my lungs with load of oxygen, I forced my right leg to shoo the annoying thing away. Aahhh, crap, this is getting harder, just go away you little prick.
I tried to glare intensely at it, but it didn't do anything. It wasn't even bulge from its initial place and only keeps staring at me! I could feel the smugness from it simple smile that could match the girl who currently whimpering like crazy on my neck. It honestly felt ticklish- stay focus damnit.
Think, Hachiman, think! What could you do to get it away from here!
Suddenly, a loud thud came out of the opposite wall, stealing my attention from the cockroach or the dangerously close girl on my chest. What was that? Wait, the cockroach! My leg!
Though, before I could even take any action, my sore left leg gave up on me and we both fell onto the floor. It was also particularly uncomfortable since my hurt more than it should be while my stomach felt like it was getting punched with something soft.
With a dying-like noise, I opened up my eyes to found Miura sat on top of me while frantically looking around with terror in her eyes. She then breathes out a sigh of relief as if what terrifies her has finally gone from the area. At the very least the source of trouble finally gone, but unfortunately my suffering hasn't yet.
"Oi, could you get away from me, please-" Guh- Why would you need to jump up when you got surprised, Miura?
"Wha- w-w-what are you doing d-down there!?" Why are you having such flustered face? You're the one who caused this, bitch.
"You ungrateful bitch, you're the one who started this! I'm helping your ass earlier ago and this is how you paid it!?" I retorted back with the same intensity.
"L-liar! S-something was probably not right on your head, right? There's no way I would do that! You're the one w-who tried to do creepy stuff to me aren't you!?" she accused me heatedly with ears steaming while pointing a finger to my face.
"How the hell are you forgetting that? Are you having amnesia or something? And why are you putting the blame on me, damnit? Now get your ass away from me!" She was visibly flinching and her face got unbelievably even redder.
"Y-yeah! That's what I'm planning to do!" She quickly dismount my body with ripe tomato as head while fuming like someone who had just ate a super spicy food. I was probably no better than her especially after how heated she became even after what I had gone through.
"Y-you're lucky I was kind enough to not report you to the police." I gritted my teeth angrily at this girl. The audacity of this bitch-
"Hah!? I should've been the one who report you, dumbass." Somehow, she flinched yet once again and now with the addition of sweating profusely.
"y-you cree-"
"Forgive my intrusion, but I think I need to intervene." Suddenly, Ooya-san's butted into our heated debate with her ever monotone voice, startling the hell out of me and probably her too.
"Miura-san, I think you're accusation on Hikigaya-san was a bit exaggerating and harsh." She was visibly flinching again but the vague expression was now replaced by guilt and shame. "Not to mention, Hikigaya-san seems to be completely mean no harm and genuinely worried about you when he heard your scream."
"And you did actually jump on him though." And at that, she seemed to be biting her own lips, as if she was a kid who doesn't want to admit that they still pee on their bed.
It was then clicked on my mind why did she looked so flustered and sounds so denying at everything. She was embarrassed. She was aware of her action. And she was too embarrassed to admit it and could only throw the blame to me.
I sighed out, somewhat with disappointment and stood up from the floor.
"Now that you know it, can we just get to the kitchen quickly? I'm starving y'know." I said, barely looking at both to see their reaction.
Though, before anyone could comment on my words, I had already making my way over the kitchen and began to prepare the dinner by myself.
-oOo-
A look of guilt and horror flashes on Yumiko's face as she watched the boy's back disappeared from the corner. The cute redness on her complexion was all gone by now, replaced with sick pale as she realized what just happened.
By the dark look on his face, Yumiko knows she had screwed. Really bad. And it scared her.
Not because she fear him. But rather, it was because she fears what might have done to their relationship with her stupid pride.
She won't admit it, but Yumiko was really enjoying the unique moment, even if it was so short, with the loner teen. He was strangely nice, in his own strange way. And unlike anyone, except for her only friend in Soubu, Hachiman actually endured her selfish and loud, bratty self without seriously complaining about it. Sure he did being snarky little smartass, but that was literally just he being him to everyone in daily basis. And he didn't bear any hatred or jealousy to her.
But it seems like she won't find that same toleration anymore after all she had done today. She was helpless, facing such disgusting beast was considerably a horrifying experience at least according to her, and he arrived with nothing but worry. He cares about her. He did. Now she wasn't even sure he would pass any glance at her.
"I believe you should make things up, Miura-san." The ever so monotone voice of Ooya-san snapped Yumiko out of her grim thought.
The lady's words stung her and resonate deep inside her. But how she will do that? This is exactly one of the times when Yumiko hated her lack of friendship in her life up until now. She was clueless and greatly anxious.
She's so scared about what is the effect of her action. She fears it so much. What if he hated her now?
"He won't hate you Miura-san, no need to worry." Ooya-san's voice once again broke her out of her musing, but this time with greater shockwave.
"W-what do you mean?"
"He was disappointed, yes, but not hate. Though, the situation will most likely be stiff for you two." Well, she knew about that, thank you, "And I'm sure if you're honest to him, he would probably forgive you."
"Huh?"
"The boy held honesty very highly, to the point where he would freely spoke something that bothers his mind about someone no matter how offensive it is. Or at least that is what I catch about him in our short amount of time knowing each other."
Silence hung in the air as Yumiko let the information seeping into her mind. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Ooya-san ready to leave.
"I'm sure you need to think about it alone in the meantime before you confront him. No need to worry Miura-san, in every relationship, people would often cross into a problem and it was normal. As long as you think about it thoroughly with him, and hope he wasn't really affected by it, I'm sure you will be able to enjoy both of your time.
Now, I believe that I need to get home soon and with you seemed to need some alone time, I will excuse myself for the day. I hope everything will go pleasant Miura-san. Good evening."
With that, Yumiko was alone in the room, hugging her knees together, thinking about the recent ordeal with regret and sadness clear on her face. Some faint noise of cooking, ingredient being chopped and water boiling were the only sound that filled her surrounding alongside her steady breathing.
She felt like crying and laughing at her own stupidity.
-oOo-
It was when she hears Hachiman calling her for dinner when she snapped out her stupor. How long had she been spacing out alone in here? Yumiko don't really sure about the answer, but she was sure enough that her guilt have been increased again since she stayed in here instead of helping him out there.
Well, it's not like butting in his work would help melting the ice either.
With hesitation and reluctant, Yumiko stood from the floor she had sat for awhile. She could feel that her body was so stiff it felt uncomfortable to move. But she made her way toward the living room/kitchen nonetheless. It would worsen everything if she didn't after all.
Taking a deep, shuddering breath, she faced the ravenette. His black eyes usually have some hidden warmth beneath its cold surface. But now it was nowhere to be found, and the one Yumiko was gazing at is an endless pool of darkness, devoid any emotion.
It sends down a shiver that shook her entire frame. It was scary. Being looked at him as if he had no cares about you was never pleasant. It was hurt too. After the time they had spent albeit reluctantly, she had enjoyed it. Hell, she had even cherished it.
Yumiko was so deep in her thought that she hadn't even realized the look Hachiman gave to her.
"Why are you just standing on there?" His voice was cold, colder than usual.
"o-oh, umm, sorry, I just... nothing." Yumiko stammered out, trying to calm down herself from panicking and made it much worse. At least if he wanted to make everything look like the usual, she should appreciate and follow along with it.
After frantically sit down on the floor at the opposite side of the table, she hesitantly looked up. The common dinner of Japanese household was laid across the wooden table. It was a very warming sight for the blonde, really. But unfortunately, the same can't be said with the atmosphere around them.
It feels like she chokes when breath, it was torturous.
Before she could utter any word, Hachiman had already clapped his hands together. Well, she could talk about it later after this. She wasn't ready yet. Besides, she figured out that it would only sour the mood much more if she did that.
Yumiko had also knows his habit to speak as minimum as possible when eating. So she decided to not try to start any conversation when they were still enjoying the meal.
Everything was dead silence, only the clatter and thud created by their utensil rung loud between them. It made the food felt unpleasant even if she was sure it tastes really good. It was just the time and place that almost made her puke.
Before she even realizes it, they had already finished. There appeared her chance. To talk. To sort thing to the right direction. But unfortunately she loses it yet once again. It was starting to become tragically hilarious honestly.
Hachiman stood up from his seat, giving her a few words of gratitude before excusing himself to go home, all happened in a very quick moment. Yumiko wasn't even had the chance to stop him, not like she could actually. She froze on the tatami floor, watching Hachiman's figure away with widened eyes and hand hanging in the air, trying to grab him.
She was only able to move again when the boy disappeared from the corner of her doorway. Rushing quickly toward the front of her apartment, she found no one on there and the door of his place has been closed already.
After walking slowly toward it, she held her hand up, trying to knock it so that she could call him. Yet once again she froze, unable to move further. In the end, she could only mutter a few words with shuddering breath as the rain start to pour down, again.
"I'm sorry."
