Superboy winced for a second before rolling on his black suit top and stood up trying to shake that slight feeling of drowsiness that he had felt ever since their encounter with Morgana and Mordred two days ago.
He walked to the main Fortress where Robin was messing with things on FORTI, probably messing with the League's teleporter.
"It's taken you long enough." Damian called immediately, not even turning from his spot at the computer.
"You try getting hit by bolts of magic that zap your strength, or your own heat vision, and recovering as fast as I have." Jon argued
"I wouldn't have gotten hit in the first place." Robin replied easily.
"Nah, she was fast. Caught me off guard." Jon insisted
"I'm faster, and I also don't get caught off guard." Robin smirked
"Give Superboy a break. Magic is one of the only things that hurts his body, he's not used to it. And instead of arguing about it we should get going." Fury insisted
"The scene is going to be mostly empty." Jon noted "They were moving a bunch of stuff yesterday, Turkey's own detectives are running the scene."
"The League couldn't get them to leave it?" Lyta questioned
"They didn't want to leave it. They aren't big fans of leaving bodies in the middle of the street for days on end." Robin explained
"I don't blame them. It was grotesque. Even for you Robin." Jon sighed; Janissary did not deserve what happened to her.
"I know I saw the pictures at least. This wouldn't even be a problem if the League just let us go yesterday like I asked." Robin expressed annoyedly.
"To be honest we're lucky they let us leave at all." Fury admitted "The addition of Morgaine Le Fay instantly moved the threat level out of our jurisdiction."
"Yeah, I think it was fair for them to take a day to make a decision." Jon agreed "It just sucks that it's only made it harder for us."
"Yeah. Damian, you're a great detective, but unless you turned into a freak magician overnight, then I don't think you're going to learn much more from this scene than we did."
For a moment Damian considered telling them that he did in fact turn into a freak magician overnight. But the Bat in him loved the element of surprise and wanted to see the shock on their faces as he used magic to figure where the Le Fay's were hiding.
"Don't underestimate me." He told his friends "Now let's go, my modifications to the teleporter are finally complete."
"What did you do anyway?"
"Messed with some things on their end. Can't have the League knowing where we're going all the time." Damian shrugged with a devious grin.
"Course not." Jon agreed with the same smirk on his face. Lyta just shook her head at her friend's antics ready to solve this mystery.
The three heroes grouped up and Damian typed in a few things on his wrist computer, and they were off. In a flash of blue light, they were back in the streets of Turkey. The crime scene was as expected, and that was mostly empty.
The police tape was still up, but any materials used and the body itself were gone. Of course Damian still had the advantage as no one was there.
"How come it's so empty?" Lyta wondered
"The government issued that no one can use this road for a few days while the police investigate." Robin responded easily, already getting into detective mode
"So where are the police?" Jon asked the Boy Wonder.
"The police are currently in the department waiting for a meeting with the Police Chief. They should be here in 10 minutes when they realize he's not coming."
"Damian." Jon sighed, "You can't do stuff like that."
"I can't? Cause I already did."
"Jon's right, what if someone needs the police and they can't help cause there's a fake meeting?" Lyta asked him
"Those officers wouldn't respond anyway. They are not on call, they are working this case. Of course we already know Mordred killed Janissary and we have a better chance of finding him and his sister than these cops could dream of."
"I guess." Jon admitted
"Great, now keep it down and go soak some sun rays or something. Let me work." Robin waved him off. It was time to do what a bat did best. He started chipping away at the crime scene going through the things he already knew. This wasn't just any ordinary case. And the way Mordred killed Janissary showed someone with very little control.
"I find it crazy that you guys keep getting into these things without me." Damian noted as he analyzed the scene.
"Didn't you just tell us to keep it down, and not bother you?" Jon called from the skies, he was taking Damian's advice and trying to get as many rays as possible.
"Yeah well I'm addressing you. That's different." Robin told them. Analyzing the scene there was nothing he could really do without magic. He couldn't get their location without it. But a sprinkle of Magic would make this go a lot faster.
"Yes, well if you wouldn't blow us off then you might discover these things with us." Lyta commented.
"Too busy." he threw back easily. "Stand back." he commanded Lyta before taking a breath channelling the magical energy within him. "seye ym nepO."
And suddenly there was a swirl of orange energy in front of his eyes and he could see what he needed to. The trail of mystical energy Morgana and Mordred had left all over Turkey. This was gonna be a piece of cake.
"Robin...What...What…Just what!" Lyta struggled to find the words "What the hell was that!"
"It was magic Lyta, keep up." Robin said with a scoff, he couldn't help but enjoy the absolute confusion on Lyta's face.
"Superboy, did you hear that? He's magicking!"
"I did, and I'm not sure I believe it." Jon questioned "Are you serious Damian?"
"Would I lie about something like this?" Robin asked "Also there is almost nothing important over here. We have to go to the spot of the fight. It's been nearly 72 hours so the magical residue will be harder to track."
"You're serious." Lyta said, completely in awe, "I'm astonished, I don't think you will ever fail to surprise me."
"Are sure it's safe to use?" Jon questioned
"Of course it's safe to use dad." Robin mocked "Don't worry about me, I'm just fine. Now can we head to the mountain."
"I mean sure." Jon agreed "But that still doesn't really explain how now does it? Is this something you've always been able to do?"
"Well...anyone can use magic." Robin started to explain "I'm sure you could, and so could Fury. But a few years ago when Maya and I were saving Suren from doing something incredibly stupid, I was near killed from an extreme blast of magical energy Suren's father hit me with. Not only that but I used my body to channel magical spirits and Suren's power as well. It seems it's turned me into some sort of conduit for magic."
"And so that's what you were doing for Suren and Maya. Practicing your magic." Lyta remembered.
"I wasn't exactly sure I had powers, but Suren was insistent. Once I confirmed it they really wanted me to train. So I did."
"And now you're some sort of Magician." Jon finished for him "That is insane."
"For now." Damian added "This is a short term solution. I don't plan on becoming some obsessed warlock. As of now it's just the means to an end."
"Right." Lyta nodded along "So what do your new magic senses tell you now?"
"Like I said before we have to head to those mountain peaks." Robin directed "Now let's hurry up."
Fury made a move to carry Robin to the destination, but he stopped her and spoke a simple spell "etativeL." And suddenly he was floating along with the two supers.
"It's like a whole new Robin." Lyta marveled, "Well I hope you can keep up."
The three friends sped towards the mountaintops and as they closed in on the spot of Superboy and Fury's last clash, Damian easily spotted the energy he was looking for, it was clustered big and bright like it simply wanted to be noticed.
"What now?" Superboy questioned. And for Damian that was the question. What now? Obviously now was the time for him to do the thing. Pull out a spell and save the day, but he could already feel the differences between now and every other time he used a spell.
The mystical energy still sat there like a beacon waiting to be used, but he simply couldn't manipulate it, no matter how bad he wanted to. Whether he used a locator spell or normal magic this seemed a little above his current pay grade.
It made him curious considering everything he had been able to do at Tim's house. "There isn't much I can do." Damian said honestly "But there's someone else who's been doing this way longer than I have, who can give us a hand."
It was simple enough for Damian, focusing his mind on his abilities and suddenly his hand was crackling with dark orange energy, and just as fast as it appeared it was gone.
"What was that?" Jon asked, very confused. He understood that Damian was all magic now, but this was all moving pretty fast, even for him. Just how much did he know?
"Give it a moment." Robin insisted, and just like last time 10 seconds, 20 seconds, and 30 seconds trickled by before a portal appeared and Timothy Hunter came out of the portal, pushing his glasses up his face with a very annoyed look on his face.
"Is there something wrong with you?" He asked in his thick British accent "Is there a reason you keep doing things I tell you not to? Do you not have ears mate?"
"Relax." Robin commanded easily "Stop crying about the stupid spell, there's more important things to think about right now."
"I keep telling you that using that spell attracts the wrong attention. A few minutes is all it would take for a horde of nasty spirits to come searching for your power." Tim insisted
"Wow, I'm truly shaking in my boots." Robin said sarcastically, not taking Tim seriously at all. Superboy and Fury just watched with interest at the developing situation. Jon was shocked that Timothy seemed so angry, and Fury was shocked that this is what the supposed Superhero looked like.
She supposed she shouldn't have been so judgemental, but it was far cry from what she was used to. But it was also weird, she almost took a step back in surprise at the power he seemed to emanate. You had to wonder where Damian found these people.
"Ah bugger off then." Timothy waved away and made another portal "You don't want to listen to me then don't bother coming back for help. Alright? Piss off."
"Tim stop." Robin was feeling annoyed with Tim now. Except the magician really didn't care what Damian had to say and headed for the portal "Tim the Eternity Book is at stake."
This made the wizard slow down and Jon and Lyta watched in surprise as he turned around from the portal. Everything was moving so fast.
"The Eternity Book? You're sure?"
"Yes I'm sure you dolt." Robin scoffed
"Don't get snippy with me you amateur." Tim shot back, "I can still leave at any second."
"Stop lying."
"So If I can interject here." Lyta spoke suddenly "Damian you wouldn't mind if, I don't know. You introduced us to your new friend here?"
"Yeah that would be nice." Jon added "You guys lost me 3 minutes ago."
"This is Timothy Hunter." Damian explained "One of the world's youngest Mage's. He's also one of the strongest, and in a few years there's a good chance he will be the strongest in the world. And it probably won't be close."
"Flattery won't get you anywhere." Tim insisted before looking at Superboy and Fury and giving them a little nod "Timothy Hunter, your friend's a nonce."
"Ahh. Not sure what that means, but sure." Jon agreed, "I'm Superboy, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"I'm Fury." Lyta introduced herself "You think you can do a better job at explaining what's happening than Robin?"
"I know I can." Timothy admitted "But It can't happen here. I don't kid when I say your friend has a penchant for causing havoc in the magical realm."
"So where are we headed?" Jon questioned
"We can't do anything until Tim uses the locator." Robin explained
"I've already done it." Tim waved him off "Now come on, we're gonna be surrounded by hungry angry spirits if we don't leave now."
Timothy jumped through the portal first, Robin geared up next, but paused when he realized Superboy and Fury weren't right behind him.
"Guys it's safe I promise." Robin told them "I know this came out of nowhere but things will be explained better with Hunter. I just need a little trust."
"Alright." Jon agreed, Lyta simply nodded and that was more than enough for Damian and with that the three friends jumped through the portal, evading a horde of angry spirits who missed out on another meal.
TRINITY
Jon and Lyta looked around interestingly as they found themselves in some sort of mansion. Damian didn't seem to be on edge at all, which made it easier to relax, but they did have to wonder just a little bit if Robin knew what he was doing.
"I wanna ask about this place but I don't think we have enough time," Jon started "So I'll get straight to the point. What do you know about the Eternity Book, can you locate it, and do you know anything about Morgaine, Mordred, and Morgana Le Fay?"
"The Eternity Book is a magical artifact of impossible power." Tim started to explain "It has the answer to anything you can think of. Whatever you need there's a spell for it. Now the ability needed to use some of the spells might be much, but in the hands of an experienced magic user, the possibilities are endless."
"How did the Eternity Book come to be?" Lyta asked curiously
"I suppose at the beginning of Eternity." Timothy guessed "To be honest I'm not really sure. All I know is that Merlin's father, the demon Belial, gave Merlin the book as a gift. The book supposedly contained the known history of the universe, and of course as Merlin used it he deposited his own wisdom in the book as well. He's regarded as the greatest wizard of all time, so of course the book is highly coveted."
"How could it contain history as we know it though?" Jon asked confusedly
"Merlin was extremely powerful. He had been known to manipulate time, and he lived for a very, very long time. I myself have met Merlin on a couple of occasions. Once when he was just a boy, other times when he was grown, each time he knew not just my own fate, but his as well. His power can't be understated."
"Wow." Lyta whispered impressed
"Exactly." Damian joined in "It also makes me think that this was just a matter of time for Janissary. Whether it had been her or the Justice League in possession of the book, Morgaine and her children would have made a play. It's invaluable to them."
"Yes, that's true." Tim agreed "I don't want to sound like an arse. But Janissary had no business keeping that book, it put a target on her back, and it was only a matter of time before the magic world came to collect."
"And the Le Fay's?" Jon asked again
"Morgaine and Merlin have been intertwined for all of history. Morgaine Le Fay was King Arthur's half-sister and well, consort."
"Gross." Lyta commented
"Yeah well, it was a different time. Anyways." Tim continued "What you need to know is that Merlin was like a mentor for King Arthur and helped him become a great ruler of Camelot and what not. Morgaine never liked that however , as she thought Arthur had stolen her birthright, and so she started to destroy Camelot, Merlin intervened by bringing in Etrigan."
"And he only made it worse." Damian intervened "Eventually he bonded Etrigan to Jason Blood, but it was too late Camelot was mostly destroyed. And he had done most of the destroying."
"In the midst of all of this." Tim glared at Damian for his interruption. "Morgaine had managed to seduce King Arthur and sire his son. Mordred. He was raised to hate his father. Morgaine also had been fighting for the Eternity Book all the way in Camelot, knowing her youth and beauty would never survive the years, even if she could make other things last. She's looked for it for centuries. Even the one they've stolen now is simply a replica, as Merlin had to destroy the original to get it away from her."
"And how does Morgana fit into this?"
"Sometime, anytime, No one really knows when, but it's assumed it was in the Camelot ages. Morgaine had an affair with some commoner. Apparently, she really liked him but she is a prideful woman. And status means everything. She kept the child as she herself could feel the immense power she had, and that turned into Morgana, a powerful sorceress hidden behind her mother. Allegedly more powerful than Morgaine herself, which is quite the boast."
"She didn't seem like the rest." Jon told them "She was hesitant, nice even at times. She didn't really seem like she wanted to hurt me until I mentioned her family, and then she became really angry."
"Well yeah that's the thing with people like her. You never know what's going on up there."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Lyta questioned
"It means she's a certified crazy." Tim said simply
"No." Damian sighed, not liking how Tim described her. "She's not crazy. She's Bipolar."
"Same thing." Tim shrugged
"It's really not."
"Bi...polar? Are you sure?" Jon asked, "I mean she was kind of quick to switch her mood."
"According to Merlin she is. Though he said she was a manic-depressive crazy woman. It's part of the reason why Morgaine did her best to hide the girl from the world. She wasn't exactly keen on her already low-class daughter being labeled as crazy. Regardless of how powerful she was."
Still to Jon it was more than that, maybe she was bipolar but that wouldn't force her to be so calm and nice with him. She did it because she chose to. And if she could make the choice to do that, why couldn't he get her to make the big choice and leave her family? She had clearly been forced to actually think about her choices by Jon and he couldn't help but feel like if he was given a do over, he could get her what she needed.
"No, she's still not like the rest." Jon insisted with a firm shake of his head "I know it. Look, Janissary was murdered by Mordred which means that Morgana hasn't hurt anyone."
"It means she hasn't hurt anyone we know about." Damian opposed "Look I know it's impossible for you not to see the good in everyone, but Morgana-
"Is a victim." Superboy argued, still he could tell the other three weren't convinced in the slightest "Look I admit this might be crazy. I could be clinging to some sort of false hope because I do have a tendency to look on the bright side, but this is more than that. Guys she could have killed me ten times over. If she's as powerful as you say she could have destroyed us pretty easily. At the end of the day, she's malleable, and deserves a chance to make her own choice on what she wants. And I can't help but feel like I can help her make a good choice for all of us."
"If you're sure Superboy you have my backing." Lyta told the Kryptonian, she wasn't exactly sure if he was right as she saw her friend get smacked around in the sky. But she'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
Robin however sighed annoyedly, knowing Superboy would never drop this. Admittedly his friend had great instincts. So just this once he would let him have this "Alright a couple minutes, that's most likely all we will be able to afford before they finish whatever spell they are undoubtedly cooking."
"This will work, I'm sure of it." Superboy said with a smile
"Wait, so what spell are they going to be using?" Lyta asked "The book can do anything right? How do we know they aren't planning a spell for the end of the world as we know it."
"Because Morgaine has always been vain. Before she tries anything daring it's fair to assume the first thing she will attempt to restore is her youthfulness. Anything else will be an afterthought."
"Also, these spells take quite a far bit of magical energy, so while there's a chance it's something far more dangerous than getting a new look, Robin and I should be able to pinpoint it before anything dangerous truly takes place. I've got 5 locators on possible spells that we can use." Tim told them.
"And no offense, but how did you get so prominent at magic. You don't look much older than any of us. And what makes you so strong?"
"Like your friend Robin I am also a conduit of magic, known to many as the opener. There are a lot of things I can do but most of it is based on that. I've been practicing for years."
"And because you and Robin are so similar, you're helping him out with his magic. Makes sense." Superboy decided
"Exactly." Tim nodded, and suddenly made a few hand movements and a holographic Earth showed up. "Now your friend and I have some work to do with the locations. There is a training room and you can help yourself to any food."
Jon and Lyta took the dismissal in stride heading off to explore the large house, while Damian and Tim combined their energy to find where exactly the Le Fay's were hiding.
It wasn't something that took too long with the two magic users working at a vacillating pace, and before long they had their location.
"We've got it." Tim announced "There in Wales at Penygader Mountain. They've probably hollowed it out and made it their home. If we move fast we can catch them before they can manage any real damage."
"Great!" Superboy said excitedly "Will you be taking us there?"
"If we want to get there before the Le Fay's do their thing, of course." Tim responded quickly
"Will you join us in the fighting?" Lyta questioned the young magician
"I think so. You're all strong but Magic is a different breed and Robin isn't at that level where he could take this threat on by himself yet."
"Yeah, and you aren't either." Robin retorted quickly "This isn't something you could do on your own now stop acting like it and take us to the base."
Timothy made a face at the Gotham superhero before doing a few vague hand movements, conjuring a portal out of thin air.
"Wait, wait, wait." Lyta stopped the group before they could enter the portal. "Don't we have some sort of plan; we can't just jump into this without actually knowing what we're doing?"
"It's simple. Lyta you're going to be our top gun, create some havoc, but don't do anything drastic without warning us. Who knows what they've done to the place. Superboy's main focus will be on Morgana convincing her to join the light, and Tim and I will be stopping Mordred and Morgaine to the best of our abilities."
"Well let's hope that Morgana is as nice as your friend says. Cause if she's not…" Tim sighed, "Those three might be more than we could handle."
The Trinity gave each a look of confidence, confirming their willingness to do the plan. They were all in. "Come on then." Damian led them "No more time to waste."
Through the portal they were led straight into the muggy atmosphere of the large hollowed out mountain. If Damian had any guess he'd say Morgaine took a couple of tips from the Justice League's Mount Justice.
"Alright get going." Damian commanded the team. But they really didn't get far as a pile of rocks suddenly came together and continued growing and growing until it created a ginormous rock monster.
"Of course." Tim threw his hands up in the air in annoyance "Now we have to fight a fucking rock monster."
"Relax." Damian hissed at Tim before turning to his teammates "I can trust you with this right Fury?"
"Of course." Fury nodded and pulled out her sword "I wouldn't be a warrior if I couldn't. You guys shouldn't worry. I've got this."
"Great." Damian nodded at her, "Come find us when you've dealt with him." Jon, Damian, and Tim then ran off through a different corridor, leaving Lyta to fight the large monster.
"You've already done a pretty poor job if you ask me." Lyta started talking to the rock being "I guess you were supposed to distract us, but you didn't even try to stop the other three."
The rock monster didn't respond, instead it only charged at Fury who gripped her sword in response and prepared for the attack "Alright then, I guess there isn't any time for small talk."
This wasn't really an enemy she could lasso or dance around it needed brute force. Luckily for her she had punched through a fair share of rock in her life. This one should have been a piece of cake.
The rock monster took a swing at her and she dodged leaving the monster wide open, she reared back and punched the monster right where it's stomach should have been. Unfortunately, it was like trying to punch Superboy, and to her surprise the monster gave her a wicked backhand, slamming her right into the mountains walls.
"Alright." She called, as she struggled a bit to stand up. "That was unexpected, but I probably should have expected it."
Quickly Lyta blitzed the rock monster who suddenly shot purple energy beams at her, which she managed to dodge adeptly. She took a huge swing at the monster, cutting off it's arm. She landed behind it and had a large smile on her face until she turned around and found it reforming it's arm with little trouble.
"Of course." Lyta sighed annoyedly. She could hear the signs of brewing fight down the hall, and she was stuck fighting this dumb monster. She needed to get to her friends.
Lyta didn't give the monster any more time to regrow and flew towards it with immense speed. The rock monster shot another blast of purple energy and Lyta avoided it and ran up the huge monster's arm and swung for it's head, easily cutting off.
It didn't end there, and next Fury took her lasso and threw it around the rock monster and pulled it towards the ground, as it fell she flew upwards and punched right through it, smashing the rocks into a million different pieces. She scattered them as quickly as possible and waited a couple of moments until it was obvious the monster wasn't going to reform anytime soon. With that, she sped through the halls that the rest went through, hoping to stop whatever was going on.
With the boys, Robin led the charge towards the Le Fay's following the powerful magical energy they were feeling to the source.
It wasn't long before they trailed down one long corridor to what was a large room, and inside had everything they were looking for.
Superboy used his heat vision to laser a large square in the door and Damian quietly pushed the piece of metal out. The three heroes quickly snuck in and found security behind a large rock. Inside the magical trio was in the midst of casting a spell. Or it seemed they were watching Morgana cast a spell.
She shouted loudly and twirled her fingers in a frenzy, and as Damian watched he realized he had only felt this type of magical power emanating off a few people. Mainly Enchantress, Zatanna, Constantine, Tim and Doctor Fate. Her power at the moment was astounding. And he wasn't sure she had reached her maximum.
"Damn it." Tim sighed "She's nearly completed the spell."
"What type of spell is it?" Jon questioned the experienced Mage, though it was Damian who responded
"If I'm correct, it kind of sounds like a power transfer spell...This is more than just an eternal youth thing."
"You're right." Tim nodded "I doubt she even knows what she's gotten herself into. This is bad. Really bad."
"Is it too late to stop her?" Superboy wondered, he really just needed that one chance to talk to her. He was sure he could get through to her given the time.
"It's never too late as magic is fickle and most often needs to be done to completion for spells to run its course. But we are getting pretty damn close to it's over territory."
"Well it's time to do our thing then." Robin told the group they came out of their hiding spots, only to be met with the fierce faces of Morgaine and Mordred.
"And where do you think you're going?" Morgaine questioned angrily, Damian and Jon weren't worried in the slightest, but it was clear Tim was not happy with these new developments
"Most likely to ruin our plans, mother." Mordred offered annoyingly. There were so many things Damian wanted to say to this 1600s reject, but their plans needed to get moving.
"Superboy, get moving." Robin quickly commanded, "We don't have much time."
"On it." Superboy nodded and flew off.
"Mordred." Morgaine called in response, and immediately he flew off, but a simple hand movement from Tim cut the mage off. Mordred was sent careening to the ground as the force field Tim used was very strong, it was evident from the way blood ran down Mordred's nose.
It hadn't taken long to make the man mad.
"You'll be staying here actually." Tim told Morded with just a hint of cockiness. It clearly angered Mordred, and already Robin had found something they could exploit.
"Timothy Hunter." Morgaine said with disdain "I'm ashamed to say I ever thought highly of you. You're nothing more than a stain under my foot."
Tim however just shrugged, seemingly without a care in the world "Didn't ask love."
Tim had clearly succeeded in making their opponents mad, and Damian didn't want to waste anymore time, they had to keep the fighters on their toes while Superboy worked his own Kryptonian magic.
Robin slipped a couple of batarangs out of his belt and threw them at Mordred who dodged a couple and blasted the last one away, but that was what Damian expected. He used his magic to create stepping disks under his feet sending him high up into the air. He dodged a blast of magical energy and sent one of his own straight at Mordred, sending him crashing into the cold stony mountain floor
"The trail ends here." Damian told Mordred confidently. Mordred ignored Damian and instead with a powerful roar, jumped at him with his sword in hand trying to cut his head off. Damian was quick and had managed to bring out his own sword, more than ready to get into a sword fight if that was what Mordred really wanted.
With Tim, he was evading blasts from Morgaine with relative ease, but it didn't keep his palms from getting sweaty. He knew he was. He was the Opener. A creator of worlds. A door to the source of magic. Power that as far he understood, no one else came close to.
But he wasn't unbeatable. Those with experience could make him sweat. And Morgaine had an abundance of it. That and the fact that Tim still had trouble conjuring the type of power that really made him what he was meant Morgaine would have the upper hand if he didn't focus.
Morgaine waved her hands and suddenly sharp rocks were flying his way at lightning speeds. He just barely managed to create a shield in time to stop most of the rocks, but one still got by and cut him across the shoulder.
"What an unimpressive display Opener. I expected more from someone of your supposed pedigree." Morgaine spoke cockily
In retaliation to the comments Tim took a page from her book using the rocks around and sending them at rapid speed at Morgaine, and she blasted every single one with gusto. The last two however Tim made explode, and the second one managed to send her careening into the walls of the mountain.
With the extra Tim quickly uttered a little spell making his wounds disappear and got back up ready to fight the diabolical sorceress once more.
"You annoy me to no end." Morgaine growled at Tim
"Once again Lady, I don't care." Tim responded and shot a blast of magic at Morgaine. She avoided the blast easily and suddenly turned into a huge floating snake, one that was at least 15ft tall and shot straight for Tim. Tim jumped around avoiding the large snake head. The snake charged him once again and tried to coil itself around Tim only to find that he wasn't actually there, instead his body dissipated into nothingness as the real Tim was behind the witch.
Easy enough Tim had thought, that was until the snake's tail smashed straight into his back sending him flying to the ground.
"Not good." Tim muttered and before he could get up Morgaine wrapped herself tight around Tim's body, leaving him no room to move, constricting his arms and legs.
"It seems our battle is coming to an end Opener." Morgaine said with a hearty laugh, it was weird seeing a talking snake but as a Magician, he had seen weirder.
"Any last words?" She questioned, and squeezed on his body harder. Causing him to cry out in pain.
"I think so." Tim eventually responded "It goes like this!" Tim said, and opened his mouth wide letting a devastating blast of eldritch energy straight from his mouth, immediately the snake let go of him and reverted back to Morgaine's true form.
The blast however had taken a lot from Tim, who needed a moment to catch his breath, and it allowed Morgaine to go on the offensive "YOUR DEAD!" shs screamed before throwing a large purple blast of energy at Tim.
Luckily for him the blast never made it, and instead it met Fury's shield, which dealt with the blast easily. "Mind if I join the fray?" Fury asked Tim.
"Go ahead." Tim told her gratefully, and watched as Lyta charged the furious witch. At the start of their little fight he had begun to think he could take advantage of Morgaine. But the more they fought the harder attacks came. Harder than he thought she could muster.
It was becoming obvious that Morgaine was in fact getting stronger from whatever it was Morgana was doing. That Superboy better have known what he was doing or drastic measures would have to be taken if they ever wanted to stop Morgaine, and he was pretty sure no one would like it.
With Superboy he flew a little further in the large room, to where Morgana was casting her spell. She seemed super focused and locked in. Watching her for a moment, Superboy didn't think she seemed like a person who would kill in cold blood, or try and bring on the end of the world.
But to be fair he didn't exactly look like he could bench press the daily planet either. Looks were deceiving and he'd have to remember that. But it didn't stop him from believing he could do this.
"So whatcha doing-Hey WHOA! Relax, it's me, Superboy!" Jon yelled as he suddenly had to evade blasts from Morgana. It seemed to work as she suddenly stopped shooting at him, but instead hit him with a mean glare that Superboy remembered she had used when he talked bad about her family. He'd make sure not to do that again.
"What, do you want Superboy? Can't you see I'm working here?" Morgana questioned with a hint of annoyance
"Oh, well yeah." Superboy started with a grin " I just wanted to see how you were. We didn't leave on a very good note last time."
"Hmph, I guess we didn't." Was all Morgana said, instead she bolstered the energy she was putting into the spell, and it told Jon that he really needed to work fast.
"Yeah sorry about that, I didn't mean to insult your family, it was the heat of the moment and everything."
"Forgiven." Morgana said simply, and it did occur to Jon how weird this was. Chatting with the enemy so casually. But he had seen his father do something similar a few times. Sometimes it just took a feather touch.
"So are you sure that you want to keep making whatever spell you're doing. My friends tell me it's dangerous for everyone involved."
"It's necessary for my Mother and my Brother to succeed." Morgan responded emotionlessly.
"Your Mother and Brother want to take over the world. Is...that what you want too?" Jon asked tentatively
"What I want is irrelevant." Morgana insisted "This is for my Mother and Brother not me."
"Yeah but, what you want is important too. I love my Dad but if he asks me to destroy a bus full of people I'm not going to do it. I'll make my own decision. A decision on what I feel is right, not what anyone else thinks."
"Yes, well then I guess you're stronger than I am." she decided lamely.
"Not true, you're plenty strong! Physically and mentally." Jon told her seriously "It's why none of this works without you Morgana. Why is it that you are the only one who can complete these spells. None of this works without you. And mentally Morgana you have to deal with the abuse from family on a constant basis."
The surprised look on her face told Superboy he hit home, and it really only made him angry that his guess was right, she deserved better than whatever she was getting.
"Morgana, we know about what you have to deal with. And we just want to help. If you come with my friends and I we can ensure you don't get into any trouble, and eventually get the life you deserve."
She looked contemplative for a second before, turning pensive "This is the life I deserve. My family has been gracious enough to not even disown me. I owe them my life."
"No, that's just what they want you to think." Superboy explained "Your Mother and Brother don't deserve praise simply because they didn't kill you or disown you Morgana. Their family, loving you isn't supposed to be a challenge."
She didn't respond and Jon took it as a challenge to keep pressing her "Your being used Morgana, for you incredible abilities. The spell you're doing, my friends tell me that it's some kind of power transfer, your Mother is simply taking what is yours. They fear not being able to keep you in check, so they've threatened you all your life. What you need to know is that you're stronger than all of them. Don't let them dictate your life. Just be you. Do whatever you want to do. I want you to make a choice...and I really don't want to have to fight you if you continue down this path. You're a good person Morgana, I just know it."
She didn't respond once more thinking over Jon's words, he was worried for a moment but suddenly the stream of energy stopped, indicating the stopping of the spell. "You...You really think I'm strong enough to stop them?"
"I know you are. Anyone who can take as much hurt and pain from their own family for as long as you have can do anything. You're more than they wanted you to believe."
Suddenly Morgana embraced Superboy into a tight hug, and he tentatively hugged her back hoping that this wasn't some cruel trick. However when the tears started to fall he allowed himself to relax, this was all real from the young sorceress, and he didn't want to ruin anything.
"Thank you...Thank you for giving me the strength to do this." She said softly
"You've always had it Morgana, you just needed some help realizing it." Jon gave her a bright smile.
"Morgana!" Morgaine's voice rang out throughout the entire mountain, causing the girl to stiffen at her voice "What are you doing!? COMPLETE THE SPELL."
"This is it Morgana." Jon told her "You're going to tell her what you want to do, and then you're going to do it."
Morgana nodded confidently, and flew up into the air, shaking a bit as she faced off against her Mother "Mother...I don't want to do that anymore. I don't want to follow you and Morded, and I certainly don't want to help kill people. I'm going to be doing what I want from now on, and that's that."
Throughout Morgana's little speech, Superboy watched as Morgaine got angrier and angrier, and right when Morgana stopped talking a whirl of purple energy was headed for her face "INSOLENT BRAT!"
But it was quickly met by Superboy's heat vision, and it clearly only annoyed the woman even more
"Sorry Mother, but this is how it has to be." Morgana sighed, it was clear that she was sad, but that didn't stop her from being ready to fight.
"Mordred!" Morgaine called but the only response was Lyta punching him in the face knocking the man out completely cold. Tim and Damian looked a bit worse for wear as it was a struggle dealing with the sorceress. But with it now being five against one, the odds were in their favor. And Morgaine realized this.
She made a dash for the Eternity Book but as she grabbed it disappeared out of thin air, and when she looked, found it in Robin's hands. She was prepared to fight him for it, but he threw it up into the air and it disintegrated. No doubt it had been transported elsewhere.
"You children..You are going to pay for today, I swear it!" Morgaine growled, and with that she waved a hand and teleported out of their sights.
Robin was ready to say something about saving the day, but instead didn't say anything as Morgana started crying once again.
"Don't worry Morgana. This is the start of something special for you. Promise. It does get better after this." Jon told her.
"Take it from someone who has been disowned by his family on multiple occasions. It may hurt for a while, but being able to be you is much better than being bogged down and trampled on for days on end. You'll pull through." Robin told her. Jon gave his friend a thumbs up and Damian rolled his eyes and instead joined Lyta in ensuring Mordred wasn't escaping his bounds.
Eventually time passed as the Trinity called on the League to come investigate the mess left behind from Morgaine. League members filled the mountain, and the five heroes moved over to a small corner to discuss what would happen
"Here's the part where I go to jail right?" Morgana asked sadly
"Probably not jail. I mean, not unless you killed someone." Robin explained to her "The Justice League will have you under watch for a while. Have you in a place to ensure your safety and your physical and mental state. Once clear, you will be free to live your life."
"You'll visit, right?" Morgana asked Superboy, her eyes shimmered with promise and he knew he couldn't let her down "As much as you need me to."
Green Lantern and Cyborg signaled over and it was time to hand Morgana and Mordred over. Morgana quickly gave a hug not just to Superboy, but to everyone of the heroes, and had a small smile on her face "Thanks again, and oh wait. My Mother, she was working with a group of people. They called themselves the Infringement League or something like that."
"The Injustice League?" Robin asked tensely
"Yeah that!" Morgana exclaimed "I just wanted you guys to know that, I hope to see you soon."
The three heroes shared a knowing look, it seemed that this little skirmish might have been way bigger than they thought. It would be something to focus on later.
With that done, Robin gave a quick look to Superboy, indicating he wanted a moment alone with Tim. Superboy nodded back and made it happen "Let's go see what my Dad has to say Fury."
"Well, I must say this has been an interesting introduction to magic these past couple of weeks." Robin started
"And let me guess. You're done." Tim put in air quotes, before laughing at the face Robin made "Your funny Al Ghul. I truly believe only you could think that you could just choose when to stop using magic. And maybe because of that you'd be one of the only ones to pull it off too."
"I will." Damian told him seriously.
"Listen. Magic has a price. I think you understand that. But it's more than that. It's addicting. A little magic here, and a little magic there, and suddenly you're in the swing of things again. You wanted to control your magic, learn how it would feel and you've done that. But you're a guy who understands power. You still haven't mastered this. And it irks you."
"I-
"It's fine. Everyone goes through it Robin. I do believe that it's probably for the best that you quit. But if you do ever want to learn how to master magic. My doors will always be open."
"Tt, that's because you're just as much of a novice as I am." Robin retorted, and before Tim could return, Damian pulled the Eternity Book out of what seemed like thin air.
"Here, I don't think I could put this book in better hands. Don't do anything stupid." Robin told him and walked off to Jon and Lyta
"Right backatcha friend." Tim told his retreating form, he took one last look at the place before he snapped his fingers and was gone in the blink of an eye.
"So Robin-" Lyta started but Damian had already cut her off.
"Today is the last time you will ever see me use Magic. Therefore, don't even mention that it ever happened. I would appreciate it if we left this between us."
"Uhmmm. Sure I guess." Jon said with a shrug. He was confused but this was just how Damian worked sometimes. It was clear that Lyta wanted to say more, but Damian didn't want to say it so he did the one thing he could think and grabbed Lyta's hand. "I..were going to need to fly a little to get to the Justice League's Teleporter."
Lyta smiled at Damian, and tried to ignore how hot her cheeks were suddenly getting "Sure, I'm on it."
Superboy watched as his two friends flew off in front of him, not even asking him to fly along with them
"Lovebirds." He muttered but had a wide grin on his face and took off after them "Hey come on, wait for me!"
TRINITY
Morgaine walked through the halls of the large base. She was annoyed with herself, and she was especially annoyed with her family. The plan had been foolproof. Foolproof until those annoying kids got into the way.
They made her own daughter turn against her. It was madness. And if she was annoyed it just meant that the others would be even angrier.
She opened the doors to the large meeting room, and was met with Lex Luthor, Black Manta, and Gorilla Grodd.
She opened her mouth to speak but was immediately hushed by Luthor "We know." he spoke coldly.
"It's high time we hold a meeting about this." He told the group, and pulled up pictures of Robin, Superboy, and Fury flying through Metropolis. "These three so-called heroes have become a problem. We are solving this once and for all."
