Blue Stars:
A Sonic the Hedgehog/PAW Patrol Crossover
Chapter 1
It had been almost a year since the mighty blue blur of justice doubling as the world's number one admirer of chili dogs, Sonic the Hedgehog, and his friends had first visited Adventure Bay, and subsequently met Ryder and the PAW Patrol. Yet that town wasn't really a place that the hedgehog had as a frequent stop, since the only times he and his friends came there was because Dr. Eggman had launched assaults on the city in order to add it to his Eggman Empire. The PAW Patrol hadn't ever been to any of the places that Sonic eventually called home, considering his reputation to live the life of a drifter and nomad, one way or another, moving from place to place. Eventually, due to circumstances beyond his control, he and his teammates originally took up residence in Station Square, home of Chris Thorndyke and his family, but found other places of residence for themselves, although they generally resided in the same neighborhood not far from the Thorndyke mansion. That way, if Chuck Thorndyke needed help on an invention, Miles "Tails" Prower wasn't that far behind.
Given the hard work that the pups had put in, however, in both Adventure Bay and Adventure City, Ryder felt it was time to reward them with another vacation, so he called Sonic over the phone one day, although it was Charmy Bee who answered. "Chaotix Detective Agency," he began. "How can I help you? Here. Let me put you on speaker." He activated the speakerphone so the others present could listen in.
"Chaotix?" Ryder replied, confused at first. "Oh. Are you friends of Sonic the Hedgehog?"
"Yes. Who is this, though?"
"This is Ryder, the one who formed the PAW Patrol."
"PAW Patrol?" Charmy thought for a moment, and then the light bulb in his head suddenly turned on. "Oh, yeah; I remember now. It was your town we came to see when Dr. Eggman was attacking. Twice."
"Exactly. I just forgot you answered the phone because I was expecting Sonic to answer."
"We receive all the phone calls instead because that way, the Chaotix Detective Agency can forward certain cases to him and focus on others, although my boss, Vector, never turns down work that pays. That's assuming it does pay; he's been duped a few times. Once even by Eggman."
Since it was on speakerphone, Vector, upon hearing whom Charmy was speaking to, jumped in and said, "I remember that day. Some nerve he had, promising what he ain't got!"
"Sounds about right."
"How have you been, in the meantime? Been a while since we last came to your place, although that was because Eggman was attacking them again."
"It was. We're doing well, though. We just hope launching him to one of Jupiter's moons wasn't a mistake."
"So do we. He's built bases on Earth's moon before. Weird story, but once half the moon got destroyed, and he built a base pretending to fix the problem as an excuse to cover up his misdeeds."
"That is strange. You won't see Mayor Humdinger doing that anytime soon."
"Not really."
"So what can we help you with, if anything?"
"I was planning to reward the pups for being such good pups with another vacation, and I thought to myself, 'Where haven't we visited yet?' Then I thought about the place where you and Sonic call home. I just couldn't remember the name of it or where it is. I'm not sure we can reach it from here."
"The way we go to your place takes us across one of the oceans. I think you're going to need that Air Patroller of yours. Just look for a town called Station Square."
"Station Square. Got it." Ryder tried out a new mechanism on his pup-pad, which allowed him to look up something on the internet while simultaneously speaking to the ones on the other end. "Oh. Here it is. I think you're right; we're going to need the Air Patroller for this one."
"Where do you find the time and money to build all that stuff, anyways?"
"Officially licensed PAW Patrol merchandise of all types. It sells like hotcakes, believe me."
"That is crazy!"
"I know, right?"
"Do those dogs know you're doing this?"
"No. I waited until they've all gone to sleep to call you."
"Oh. Good idea."
"How many in total are on your team?" Espio asked out of curiosity.
"At least 12, I think. The six regulars are Chase, Marshall, Rocky, Rubble, Skye, and Zuma, who act as the police pup, firefighter pup, recycling and environment pup, construction pup, aviator pup, and water rescue/lifeguard pup, respectively. I added later members as time went on, so if I'm able to bring all the pups, you'll also get to meet Everest, our mountaineer pup, Tracker, our jungle pup, Rex, our pup who knows everything there is to know about dinosaurs, and Tuck and Ella, the twins who help us when we need to be the Mighty Pups. The 12th member you'd see is actually the first cat to ever join the PAW Patrol, Wild Cat. I don't know if they'll come or not, but I'll have the main six with me."
"Is Wild Cat that stunt cyclist?"
"He is."
"What made you induct him?"
"The Ruff-Ruff Pack." Ryder then went into details about how the Ruff-Ruff Pack occasionally terrorized Adventure Bay, and even attacked Mayor Humdinger on one occasion.
"Sounds vicious. We don't usually deal with bikers," Vector commented, "well, unless they're those rodents from Mars. Ever met them?"
"I don't think we've ever met the Biker Mice from Mars, but we have seen them in the news quite a bit."
"Hmmm. Well, if you ever do, tell them we said hello."
"Okay."
The conversation continued, and Ryder got the directions he needed. He went to bed later than he wanted, but the detectives felt more chatty than usual. He still got a good night's sleep, however, and it was worth it, because he wanted to get to the right moment to spring the surprise on the pups.
But for every plus, there is a minus. Dr. Eggman had managed to get himself off the moon in question and back to Earth, but he had to be careful where he re-entered, or else somebody might have spotted him. Though he wasn't necessarily plotting something, he just wanted to get back to Earth, since he felt he couldn't survive on Jupiter's moons. (Specifically, he landed on Europa.) As soon as he got back, he found a good place to hide.
"There we go," he said. "I just hope I haven't ended up back in that town with the crazy mayor with the chicken for a pet. And she even says that chicken is her deputy mayor. Who does that? Then again, what else do I expect from somebody in politics?"
Harsh words, those were, but since nobody heard that, Mayor Goodway wasn't going to weep about it at that moment. Note she already had because the Ruff-Ruff Pack made her cry upon proclaiming she was "nothing more than a psychopath who worshiped a chicken." That wasn't true. The mayor may have caused a few questions from confused tourists and visitors because she had a statue of Chickaletta, but she wasn't really doing anything questionable. She just loved her pet, and that's one way she showed it. (The chicken, on the other hand, generally ignored everything that was going on around her. It may not have even occurred to her that she was the deputy mayor. She usually was just preoccupied with her own thing, especially if it was eating or sleeping.)
Ryder had plans to have the whole PAW Patrol visit Station Square, but he would need all of them together before he and Robo-Dog would be able to travel to the city.
