Part 3: Good Times Gone

Despite the circumstances, Cinder would see Rhodes and her mother meeting that day to be a good time. He was her mother's 'Prince Charming'. He did not have a castle, but he had a place up in Atlas. He was not rich by many means but having a bit money lifted them out of the poor house. Rhodes was the closest thing she had to a father. He trained her how to fight and the love a little girl desperately wanted. Plus, her mother was reducing her hours and was on the slow road to quitting.

Those were good years and what would be a decent childhood. But it all came crashing down. Cinder had just become seventeen and her parents were barely married for a few months. Cinder came out from school and find her mother sobbing at the kitchen table.

"Mom, what's wrong?!" Cinder said coming up.

"It's your father…he's…he's dead." Ella croaked out.

Cinder fell to her knees as her legs grew weak. Her father's life was snuffed out. What filled Cinder with rage was why. According to the military, he was guarding a shipment. One for the hotel that her mother was working in. What Cinder endured was the slow breaking down of her mother…a combination of the same rich folk putting the squeeze and drinking to ease the pain. Cinder had taken up a job working for that same hotel, The Glass Unicorn.

It was an eye opener to all that her mother went through. The Madame was a cruel woman who barely paid her employees…to which she kept a small staff despite the Glass Unicorn being huge. Now the hotel was not really the issue, but what was…were Madame's twin daughters. Cinder had met them before several times when her mother was put on babysitting duty by the Madame. Never liked them for how they lorded power over them. No, Cinder envied them, but would never admit.

"Mother, are you okay? You look paler than usual." Cinder remarked as Ella was sweeping.

"I'm fine. The sooner we're done, we can go home. You can show me those glassmaking skills you were developing with your semblance." Ella said putting up a smile.

She looked so tired and it had ached Cinder's heart. SPLAT! SPORCH! The two turned to see the daughters trailing mud in the hotel lobby they were nearly done cleaning. As if to make it worse, Madame came out of her office.

"What the…why is there mud in the lobby? I don't pay you two to stand around all day!" Madame bellowed.

Ella could hear the giggles of the daughters. Cinder had never seen her mother angry, but this time she did. Ella's face was puffed up and red as she threw down the broom.

"Standing around?! I was cleaning until your daughters literally walked in spreading mud in the lobby. It's all over their shoes and trailing from them." Ella screeched. "I have had up to here with you. You paid us like crap, you let your daughters run rampant, and you deliberately keep a small staff to because you're a cheap bitch. Well, guess what?"

She tore off the maid headdress and threw it in Madame's face.

"I quit." Ella said calming down.

"You can't quit without a notice." Madame said only for Ella to spat a big glob of spit on the woman's face.

"There's your notice." Ella said before leaving. "Cost more than lying to your quest about giving them the finest food."

The hotel guests all looked both amused and shocked at this show. Madame was mortified, but Cinder laughed. A good to honest laugh in so long before leaving. With her, the rest of the staff would follow. Cinder never felt more powerful, but it was a fleeting feeling.

At home, Ella had drinked herself to sleep leaving Cinder awake and practicing her swordplay. As she practiced, she heard a noise. She saw two shadows moving towards the back of the house and she followed to see it was the daughters with a can of gasoline.

"And what the hell do you think you're doing?" Cinder said causing one of them to drop it on her own shoes.

"We thought you weren't…"

And Cinder stabbed her with the blade nearly missing the vital organs. Of course, these rich little brats never awakened their auras. The other twin looked horrified as her sister was on the ground in pain.

"You…you…you."

"Yes, me. You think you could just walk up to my home and bu-Wait, where's your mother?" Cinder said only for the girl to sneer.

Then a gunshot rang out…

"Finishing the job."

The bleeding twin on the ground was realizing saying that to the angry woman with a sword was probably the stupidest thing to do and watched Cinder decapitating her twin. The living twin was glad that Cinder ran back inside after her mother…she had a bit of spite left in her.

Madame did not get even get down the stairs to see Cinder with a bloody sword. Madame raised her gun and Cinder charged up using the sword to block the bullets before slamming into her causing Madame to drop the gun and tumble down the stairs breaking her hip. Cinder walked down planting her foot on her throat.

"You killed my mother all because she stood up to you. Didn't you?" Cinder said glaring at her.

"And what makes you think killing me will do…you will still have nothing. No family and no power." Madame said with a dark chuckle.

Cinder could smell smoke. Where there was smoke, there was fire. Seems the other twin she left ahead got the house on fire only to neglect that her shoes were covered in gasoline…setting herself on fire as well.

"Well, it seems no house either. Even if you kill me now, you'll be just a wea-" Madame said before Cinder impaled her to silence her.

The blood of the corrupted dripped into the carpet. Cinder quietly just grabbed what she could save and made sure the other girl was dead. She left the burning looking rather sullen. Burned by life and the last good thing torn away…

What she wanted to was to hurt, she wanted power

She vowed to leave Atlas and get power. She did not care what she had to, what she had to give up…

Whatever it took to be strong…and be feared.

(A/N: And here you have Cinder Fall and Adam Tarsus. Fairly basic, Rhodes was not as involved in it, but I wanted to keep it simple. If anyone wants to take this and expand on it, contact me. I wanted to show a Cinder who had potential to be a good person but just had her hopes smashed to where she became what she once hated. Adam was on the tipping point for becoming a monster just like Cinder, they just got pushed. Now obviously I did not show more of Adam or how Cinder met Salem. Kept it vague on purpose. Here's to 191 snippets! Let's get on to 200!)
