Freedom came early and with bloodshed. Emerald and Mercury came to the meeting place to get to Adam only to find him and plenty of White Fang members flat out butchered. Emerald dropped her jaw and Mercury saw that some wrote 'Payback's a pain, ain't it?!', in blood. They could have freaked out, but their minds went to one of joy. No more working for Adam!
"I don't see Gillius or Trifa…you think they…" Emerald asked only for Mercury to stop her.
"Better question, why are we questioning it when we can rob these guys, go to our apartment, and get the hell out of Vale before anything stops us?" Mercury asked Emerald blinked.
They quickly got to stealing what they could. Cash, wedding rings, and shit they could pawn. They did not give two craps about it. They should why? Mercury snarled at the memory of the treatment he and her got from these faunus. They could have retired the Fang seeing they got their freedom, but Adam insisted on dragging a fight that was already over.
"Goodbye and good riddance, Adam. You started off as a man with conviction and reason only to denigrate into a petty crime lord. What a waste." Mercury said before he and Emerald left.
They never did find out who murdered them but whoever did that their undying thanks. They were already in their apartment packing their things only for a knock on the door to interrupt.
"Sonovua…." Mercury said stomping over and opening the door.
It was the landlord.
"We're moving out." Mercury said before slamming the door on the annoyance.
The duo had their things packed and they were once again on the docks waiting for the boat once again. The two looked back and forth nervously biding their time. Mercury kept checking his scroll, Emerald was watching DustTube. Finally, the boat would come, and they hauled ass onto it.
The boat was finally leave Vale with the jaded duo celebrating their escape. Nothing could ruin this moment, they thought.
"Hey…if it ain't the duo of grey and green."
Emerald whirled around to see Gillius and Trifa in more casual clothes.
"Oh come on!" Mercury said. "What do you want?"
"Just catching up with out buddies of mine. I quit the Fang to go into business with Trifa running my adult film studio. I was in Vale recruiting some potentials. We could use you…" He said only for the two of them to shut that down.
"For security, mostly." Trifa said.
"Oh. Well, I can live with that." Mercury said as he and Emerald nodded in agreement.

Salem had seemingly defeated with what was a level of irony. Someone suggested if Salem was immortal, why not seal her anyway? And they tried that only for it to work. Salem was functionally no more and world celebrated as her minions were hunted down. Emerald and Mercury could only see this as good preserve.
"Mommy, Daddy, how did you go meet?" Melanie Black said pulling on her father's pant leg.
"Oh that's a long st-"
"Daddy, Mommy, uncle Gillius is here." Sapphire Black said excitedly.
Emerald and Mercury groaned. They had long retired from working from him as they had their own jobs now, but Gillius kept coming to hang out or double date with him and Trifa who had a kid of their own. It was a begrudging friendship, but one that they could tolerate. He did spoil their kids rotten…and he did make good wine.
(A/N: And it ends peacefully with the implication of a better future ahead. I'm glad I got this one the simple treatment needed for this miniseries. Next, we go back to the dating fic.)
