She was clear o the flu. Her negative test result confirmed by Owen as he double checked and then gave the all clear for Animal to fly with Fen to collect the old dear. Ianto knew this would cause ripples and he prepared the house for her with notices everywhere to ensure the quarantine period would be adhered to. In order to make sure the old girl did not decide to be bold, he placed several photos of the babies in the village around the house, the little faces hopefully reminding her of the need to be fair.
She had a yappy little dog that she was cuddling, her shoulders hunched as Animal hugged her to him, pulling her towards the house. Ianto stepped back and yelled "Hi there. After you have had time to settle and get a second negative result in three days, we can have a cuppa and talk."
"Who was that?" she asked as she looked back over her shoulder.
"The Boss Man. He is kind and fair, he made sure we could get you Granny. Be nice, be bloody nice to him. He's a good man. He's the kinda man Granddaddy was. Someone who would kill for you, die for you. A solider."
"Hmmm… this place is nice dear" she said as she dropped the dog gently to the floor and let it explore. The suitcases were placed by the front door for Animal to collect later when the coast was clear.
"Right. The rules. We stay here together. I am allowed to stay with you and take care of you. They will leave food at the door and we will maintain distance until Doc Owen gives us both the all clear. Three days, if we don't' show signs by then… we are safe. If you are sick, I will look after you. Doc Owen will look after both of us too… he's a good man. I am so glad I have you here."
"I am sorry I didn't listen to you about this. Mildred told me her husband bit his own tongue clean off having a fit of some sort. You know Mildred right? She is the one with the silly car. The fever… made him do it" she shivered "I am glad we live in different cities or I might have gone to be with her without thinking. I mean… if he has it, she does right?"
"Exactly. Why we have to be so careful Granny love." He crooned "Come on. Let's get Fritz something to eat. I think the Boss put some dog food in … here we go. The premium stuff eh old man?"
She settled and looked around with a mixture of relief and unease. She had been a silly old cow hadn't she, telling him she would be OK and did not need his fussing.
At least she knew she was safe. And dear little Fritz was too.
