Ianto was in his bedroom changing the bedding for the week. He could hear the faint laughter and screams of children outside, down in the goat field where no doubt goats were fainting left and right as the Goat King watched in impassively. Shay was asleep and Ianto being the seasoned parental he is, was taking the chance to get some housework done as the little one slept in the Moses basket on the floor by the dresser out of the way.
He knelt to tuck the sheet in under the mattress and felt something, his heart stopping for a second as he felt around under the mattress and then withdrew a notebook. Old. Battered and worn. With delight he sat and leaned back against the bed as he opened it and looked at the book he had started once upon a time for the Lake House from their first weekend there to the purchase… and eventual purchase of their current one and handing over of their first one to Walt and Curt. Wow. Doesn't time go fast.
Ianto remembered the drives with the RV following them, Herb and Bets with the dogs, kids and delight. John so sorry that time the kids fed the dogs garlic streak the night before.
Shay made a little snuffling noise to announce Hir waking up. Ianto dropped the book and crawled over to peer into the basket and croon "I cannot WAIT for you to be big enough to be out on the boat with Daddy pretending to catch fish. Here is a little secret I will share with you now Shaybum… you will NEVER catch any fish because Daddy cannot stand putting bait on the hook. But it is fun."
Shay made little noises as a hand reached up. Ianto kissed the tiny hand and nuzzled against it, then leaned down to rub his face into the basket, nuzzling into the baby's body and the baby laughed. Ianto giggled as he ticked at the little one and got more giggles. Such a little snort-monster, this one.
Jack stood in the doorway watching Ianto as he loved their youngest beast, the giggling and snoring immense as lithe hands seized at Ianto's hair. Ianto leaned back and looked up at Jack, seeming so much younger all of a sudden. The handsome young man who took his eye… his heart and his soul.
Jack knelt and kissed him, seizing his face and smashing their mouths together as their child kicked in the basket while watching them with glee.
What a lovely day.
