Ianto was pissed.
After all his planning and all the hard work of everyone, he had to break the bubble and head into London. Damn it all. He had planned for every eventuality except for this. He had not expected this so soon and now… well… he could not back out of it.
He went to the wardrobe and started to remove clothes changing quickly as he opened another bag and placed a second change of clothes in it, trying to remember everything and be as methodical as possible. Be calm. Think it through. Focus.
He drove to the guard house and walked into the clean room specially set up for this with the door to the outside patio and fire pit beyond, placing the clothes neatly on the bed in there, then with a grimace he looked in the mirror at the clothing he was wearing and tried not to be too horrified at himself. The old blue jeans and old cardigan with paint splotches made him look like an old man. It was weird. Felt… wrong. Scruffy old clothes usually for gardening or painting or something. Not for going to the Big Smoke on official business. He yearned for a suit.
Still.
Needs must.
He walked across the bridge to the vehicle waiting for him, the plastic covering the interior made it look like it had rolled off the factory floor and Ianto settled for a long drive into the big smoke. He hummed softly to himself, preferring his own thoughts to the radio and as he parked in the lower parking level he took a moment to steady himself, then reached out for the mask sitting on the seat beside him. The face of a grinning Cheshire Cat. He placed the mask on and then pulled the baseball cap down over his hair. The gloves came next and as he slipped out into the outside world he actually felt mildly alarmed. He told himself he was being silly. Not like the sickness hid around the corner with a baseball bat for Godsake.
Time to brave the outside world.
And the virus.
Yep.
Ianto walked in the realm of men and tried to tell himself over and over again to stop holding his breath like a pussy. He was fine. It would be fine. He was being careful.
He was doing this and getting the fuck out of Dodge.
Yep.
He would not feel safe until he was across that bridge to his other world once more.
He could virtually feel the baseball bat swinging.
