A THOUSAND MILES AWAY
Mew floated peacefully through a nearby canyon. Her mind was at ease after this morning's events. Hopefully, her message had gotten through but suffice it to say she wasn't worried about the duo anymore. Kyle was safe. The psychic type came to rest at a nearby lake. The sparkling blue waters reflected the brilliant moon off the surface. Her eyes skimmed the ten-mile wide basin. There wasn't another Pokemon in sight causing a shiver to roll down her spine. It was a peaceful night, but the peace wasn't naturally occurring. As if on cue, two figures emerged from across the body of water.
"Did you really think we wouldn't notice your presence?" the leader asked, placing a hand on her hip.
"I thought it was better to ask forgiveness than permission," Mew replied, cuddling her own tail. Her eyes never left the duo as they started walking over the choppy water. The air whipped up a storm which made the basin shake violently. Mew remained nonchalant despite the show of force. No one in the world could make her afraid. Pain and death were unavoidable. It was better to accept that fact, then give it power over your life.
"That's not your place to decide," the leader's pokemon shouted angrily.
"Let's be honest here. I didn't do anything."
"Don't lie to me," the human stated coldly.
Mew shrugged and let out a very relaxed sigh.
"What do you think is gonna happen? He'll attend Ranger Academy and you won't be able to touch him. Eon will train him up until then and Kyle will still be out of your reach," Mew said with a smug grin.
"Then we wait for him to be booted from the school. He'll be left unprotected sometime."
"Yet you still have to hope for sooner rather than later," Mew replied.
"Regardless, we are here to prevent you from interfering again. Arceus gave us permission to dispose of you if you failed to follow the rules."
"Don't think you could just let me off with a warning?" Mew asked, feigning innocence. Her eyes glanced around as she felt the energy surge from underneath her. Without hesitation, she formed a barrier as shadowy spikes emerged stabbing directly at her body. Mew stared at the shadows as they changed form into hands which ripped directly into the barrier.
This is not going to be easy.
Shaking off her wariness, she threw her concentration into the upcoming fight. There would be time to worry about things later on.
THIRTY MINUTES LATER
The terrain where the trio had been fighting had morphed into a desolate landscape. The air was filled with ash, and the beautiful lake had dried up. Steam poured up from the ground. In the middle of the dry basin, Mew drug herself inch by inch away from her assailants. Her strength had given out, and she was on her final legs. Crimson blood poured from her stomach as she stared at the two. Her paw reached out to move again, only for the Pokemon to cut off her escape route. The legendary stared up at the two, with tears in her eyes. She didn't expect things to end this way. This ending was one she had wanted to avoid at all costs. Kyle had to live. Without her presence, he would suffer unnecessarily...ending with his early demise. With a nudge of her foot, Mew was forced to look at the human who appeared conflicted internally.
"I don't take any pleasure in this. If you had left well enough alone, Kyle would have been allowed to live," the woman stated.
Mew started to giggle, despite the grim circumstances. The pokemon who had her stopped, pressed down on Mews exposed internals without restraint. Mew wanted to scream in pain but fought the urge valiantly.
"What's so funny?"
"Don't lie to me. You honestly think I believe you'd let him live?"
The woman sighed heavily and glanced into the distance.
"Why did you do it?"
"Because I couldn't watch him die. Time and time again, I stood by and did the wrong thing. He...He's innocent," Mew pleaded, guilt filling her cheeks with blood.
"There is no innocence in this war. You know that," the woman growled inhumanly.
Mew reached out to the Pokemon and gently touched her.
"I'm sorry. Let's get this over with? As long as I'm alive, he won't be safe," the female legendary whispered. Closing her eyes she saw the future shift with her death. Eon would protect the boy until he attended school. From there Rose would have to be there for her friend until he either graduated or flunked out.
It's up to you now, Rose. My part is done.
The woman stared down at Mew who nodded, giving the woman permission to finish the job. To her credit, as everything slipped away from her control, Mew felt nothing. Death was swift. Quiet. Painless. The fear and worry faded to nothing as did her body.
Pink luminescent dust floated into the air, as the legendary faded from existence. The woman stared at it filled with regret. This event wasn't supposed to happen. Her actions had changed the future irrevocably.
"He's going to attend Ranger Academy. He'll have the protection of every student there not including the headmistress and her Pokemon," the Pokemon said with a tone of desperation.
"This doesn't change our plans. We wait until he returns home, and then finish it. We have work to do," the woman said.
Turning to the landscape, she waved a hand restoring it to its original condition. Pokemon who had been outside of the invisible barrier the pair had erected returned to their homes, unknowing of the destruction which had occurred mere minutes before.
The woman stood at the edge of the lake and looked up to the moon. It wasn't fair that things had turned out this way. A single tear forced itself free of her eye, as she turned to leave the area.
"What a waste," she stated under her breath. There was much to do in the coming months, and lucky for him...Kyle was untouchable until the end. However once the opportunity presented itself, they would strike. Hard and fast. He wouldn't survive.
Hey all. I apologize for the huge delay in uploads. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of life events happen, not to mention a mental illness I've been dealing with. I've done tons of work on the story and have plans for this work going forward. Starting this week, I'll be posting as often as I can. Thank you for your patience and support for my stories. Until then stay safe and have a good day!
