Later that day, after lunch, Belle and Adam were about to leave for the village. The had already told the castle staff about the good news earlier during lunch. Before leaving, Adam asked the staff to take good care of the castle while he and Belle were gone. All of the servants including Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and Chip agreed to their master's wishes, and promised that the castle would be clean when they return at the end of the day. With that being said, he and Belle waved goodbye to the staff and rode off to the village on Belle's horse, Philippe.'
On their way to the village, Adam was still feeling a little doubtful. But with some reassurance from Belle, he felt better. When the couple had arrived at Villeneuve, all of the villagers were surprised to see Belle with Prince Adam. When they saw the couple, everyone at once stopped what they were doing and stared at them in shock. After finding out that Belle became a princess and seeing her true purpose, everyone apologized for how they had treated her.
Thanks to Belle's kind hear, of course, she forgave the villagers. Once that was over, everyone then turned to Prince Adam with confusion and surprise, but still remained polite knowing that he's royalty. Because it had been approximately 12 years since the curse was casted, the villagers had by now forgotten all about their prince's selfish ways. Seeing all the stares towards him, Adam took a deep breathe and began to apologize for the way he treated the villagers all those years ago and asked for their forgiveness. He then explained to them that it wasn't his intention to do so- but was forced to act cruel, spoiled and selfish due to his father's influence on him as a child.
Unfortunately, he couldn't do anything about it. He also mentioned the curse that had impacted his life for 10 years before he met Belle.
Hearing his explanation and apology, the villagers felt pity for their prince. The wished that they had never should have listened nor believed Gaston when for thinking that Adam (in his Beast form) was a horrible creature. Then there was an awkward silence among the people, which was suddenly broken by one of the women standing at the front. The women slowly approached the couple and said, "We understand, your Highness. We forgive you."Then, another villager, who was a man said, "Let us cheer for the return of our Prince! All hail Prince Adam and his new-found princess, Belle!"All the villagers cheered happily and gave a first 'welcome back' to Prince Adam.
After the 'unusual' yet wonderful welcome to Belle and Adam, the village baker, who was standing in the crowd, asked the reason for their arrival. Belle explained that she had received a letter from her father about the invention fair taking place in the village the next day. When everyone heard what Belle had just said, they had nearly forgotten about the invention fair tomorrow. The letter also requested that Adam was welcome to stay and help.
"Oh, my," a woman said in surprise. "Well all have been so busy with our everyday lives, that we nearly forgot the invention fair was to take place tomorrow." Everyone began to panic. But before they could do so, Belle spoke up.
Seeing everyone panicking, Belle immediately made a confident speech stating that everyone will be able to finish their inventions on time only if they work together, have patience, and kindness. Together, with her and Prince Adam's help, the village and their kingdom can become one of the most industrious and prosperous places in France.
As everyone listened to Belle's 'mini speech', they were suddenly reminded of how they used to treat Belle, which made them feel ashamed- even though Belle had already forgiven them. They now understood the true meaning of their behavior. "We now understand the meaning of your speech and we all agree to help each other and change our ways for the better!"- a man shouted among the crowd. Everyone began to cheer loudly. Afterwards, everyone went back to their routine and began to work on/finish their inventions for tomorrow. As they left, Adam looked at Belle with a proud look on his face. "I couldn't be more proud of you, Belle. And I'm sure that you will make a wonderful Queen for the kingdom someday." Belle slightly blushed and thanked him for the complement. The couple then headed to Belle's cottage to see her father.
As both of them arrived at the cottage and opened the door, Belle and Adam could hear Maurice in his workshop, working. As they continued to walk around the house, Belle called out loudly, "Poppa, I'm home!" When Maurice heard the sound of Belle's voice, he instantly stopped working and went upstairs towards his daughter and Adam. As soon as she saw her father once again, Belle was more than happy and embraced him.
As they pulled away from each other. the three of them sat down on the couch and Maurice began to tell them the story. He explained how he came up with his newest invention that he had been preparing for the fair. Now, he needs help to finish and present it the next day; which he can hopefully win. As Maurice was narrating, Adam questioned out of curiosity why he wanted to win the invention fair. After hearing Adam's question, Belle and Maurice looked at each other as if something was on their minds.
Belle had already heard this story once before and she knew that her father didn't like talking about it very often. Although Maurice became hesitant at first, he knew that he couldn't hide the truth for much longer. So, he took a deep breathe and confessed, "Well, the truth is... I have never actually won an invention fair before. I have been trying for many years now, but I haven't won a single one." Maurice then let out a huge sigh, but continued. "Actually, the most recent invention fair took place two years ago in another village. And I believe that it was the same day when you took me as your prisoner..." Maurice was looking at Adam as he remembered that moment. "... And that's when Belle came and tried to rescue me," he finished. Hearing this, Adam was surprised.
"So, when you stumbled upon my castle two years ago, you were actually headed for another town to enter in their invention fair," Adam asked. Maurice nodded. Now Adam felt very ashamed for what he did when he was under the curse. But he knows that he has changed for the better (thanks to Belle) and that he can't dwell on the past. "Oh, I am so sorry about that," Adam added. Belle looked at Adam, put her hand on his shoulder, and said, "It's alright, Adam. You had no idea back then."That statement made Adam feel much better. Then, she turned back to her father and smiled warmly. "Don't worry, Pappa. I'm sure that you will win this year. Just have faith in yourself."Hearing his daughter's comforting words made Maurice feel much more hopeful.
"Well, what are we waiting for? This invention isn't gonna finish itself," Maurice chuckled. So, without any delay, Maurice got right back to work with the help of Belle and Adam. After hours upon hours of working hard- with a break in between, the invention was finally finished. The invention was a "Wood Chopping Machine".
At the end of the day, around 7p.m., the three of them stood back and admired the beautiful work art. "It looks amazing, Pappa." Belle admired. "But, will it work," she added. Adam didn't say anything. But he was very curious to see if it will work, too.
Maurice felt very proud of himself. He looked at his invention and said, "Well, my dear, there's only one way to find out." And so, they began to test it. Maurice asked Belle to take any piece of wood that he had gathered earlier and place it in the holder. Then, he pressed a big red button in the center. As the button was pressed, the rotating axels from inside began to spin- making the sharp cutter head cut through the thick wood with ease. The test was a success and it worked like a charm. The three of them watched in awe. "You did it, Poppa. It works!", Belle said with excitement as she hugged her father. Adam nodded in agreement and complimented, "It looks wonderful, Maurice. Well done."Maurice thanked him.
Maurice turned the machine off for now. He looked at his daughter and asked with hope, "Do you really think I'll win this year?" Belled smiled with glee. "Yes, I'm sure you'll win this year."
And with that, Maurice thanked the couple for all their help. He hugged them and bid them farewell as they rode back to the castle.
