Amy slumped onto her sofa. Rouge and Sally had now been over for approximately 10 hours, the longest they had ever been over. As much as she loved her friends, they were the reason why she missed her soap opera. That was something unforgivable.
Rouge was known to be loud on the phone. Ever since Amy had said yes to her, she had begun planning immediately. It was almost frightening to see the bat so passionate about this 'project' of theirs.
"Rob, I'll send you his picture right now. As soon as you find out anything about his location, call me." Rouge ended the call as the credits of Amy's soap opera began rolling. The pink hedgehog rolled her eyes in disapproval. There was only one thing that took her mind off of things. Her soap opera! And now this had become something she couldn't enjoy to the maximum, all because she couldn't help but overhear Rouge's conversation.
Rob was a long-term friend of Rouge's. Apparently some sort of 'hacker'? But his principle was that he only helped those with a 'good motive', whatever that meant.
The internal battle between him and his principles led to an awfully long phone call between him and the bat. Rob, at first, opposed contributing to Rouge's plan, but after explaining the situation from her perspective, he eventually agreed.
Rouge had been extremely loud throughout the whole phone call. There was even a point where she screamed at Rob for being so difficult. So, watching the soap opera had been impossible, Amy had just been staring at the screen, she tried to read the lips of the characters, of course nothing came of it.
Emotions were definitely running high that night.
While the bat had been busy screaming at Rob, Sally had locked herself in Amy's room and wept. The poor chipmunk was scarred. The pink hedgehog couldn't help wonder what had occurred between Sally and the con-ster. It was unfortunate that Sally had believed all the love lies he told her. The chipmunk was so strong prior to her encounter with that menace. Now every little discussion they had about him would bring glossy eyes. The change he had brought in her was absurd.
Amy knew better than to disturb the two and attempted to fix her concentration on the TV, scrolling through the limited channels she had and stopping on a film she had wanted to watch for a while. She tunneled her vision so they would focus on the two main characters on screen.
Did that work? No.
She was anxious, frightened even. Hours ago she had been a normal girl, she was struggling, but everything was….plain? There were no lies. Now she had agreed to something that could flip her life entirely. If anyone found out about the 'activities' she was partaking, she could end up in jail. Her life would be ruined, more so than it had been by her getting sacked.
It frightened her, the fact that she had to pretend. She was no actor, she could easily slip up and break the character she needed to desperately play! It frightened her that she had to stay cautious all the time and be around someone that can't be trusted.
Yes, she had been lured in with greed, but the more Amy thought about it, the more it proved to be a bad idea. Maybe she should back out and tell the girls that she's not in the right state of mind to carry this out? That it was crazy for her friends to believe that she, out of everyone, could pull this off?
Amy instantly frowned at the distant sounds of Sally's cries. Her and Rouge had been through so much. She knew if she backed out now, all the emotions built up would pile as frustration. All that anger would come crashing down at Amy, which was something she didn't want to deal with.
She took a deep breath before closing her eyes and attempting to get some sleep, secretly hoping to lock away all the doubts in her mind.
.
"Amy now is NOT the time to sleep!" Rouge yelled angrily as she hovered on top of the sleeping hedgehog.
She slowly opened her eyes, a yawn escaping her lips, as she proceeded to sit upright on the sofa and rub her eyes.
"We've found Steve, look!" Rouge stated whilst showing Amy her phone. The pink hedgehog didn't care at that particular moment, her sleep was interrupted. She murmured gibberish sayings before laying down and turning to her side, trying to sleep once more.
"Amy! Look!" Rouge repeated louder once more. Amy opened her eyes, which deceived her into a blurred vision. They fixated to high resolution where she viewed a picture of a female tourist standing outside a hotel. She was confused as to why Rouge had shown her this. There was no Steve in there, was there?
She proceeded to scan the image. Her eyes looking for her target. And there he was, in the background passing by the hotel, disguised by a flood of people.
"How do we know this is up to date?" Amy asked whilst still rubbing her eyes. She glanced at the clock above her TV. 02:34? Oh how she despised not being able to sleep. First it was due to completing projects, now it was this?! Sleep was something Amy adored with all her heart. Nighttime brought her peace, she loved the ambiance of the trees bristling in the cold air, and would often see two birds nuzzle together to keep themselves warm. Her friend had ruined its beauty.
"I've had an employee at the hotel see when they checked in. I just asked based on this person's username...not very smart to have your full name as your user, you know?"
Amy simply shook her head in agreement before attempting to lay down back on to her couch. Though Rouge was far too excited and continued rambling on. Where did this girl get her energy from? Wasn't she exhausted from this morning? Amy was sure by this point even Sally was asleep. "They checked in a week ago! One of my friends works at that hotel. She's able to keep an eye on him to figure out what he's planning."
"Rouge, let me sleep!" Amy moaned as she resorted to finally tugging her blanket on top of her face, hoping that was enough to keep Rouge away.
The bat sighed whilst also making her way over to the second couch. She understood that everyone was tired. It was probably best they all got some sleep before preparing for action tomorrow.
.
"Oh my gosh…" Amy mumbled as her ears perked up to hear Rouge and Sally both snoring. She had woken up early that morning, and blocked her ears with her hands. The chipmunk had never left her room, she had fallen asleep there, which Amy didn't mind.
But her snoring had been soooo loud. She was able to hear it from the living room. Sleep was the only distraction Amy had. Now she laid wide awake, for no reason. There was no use, after a couple of toss and turns, and watching Rouge, who's snoring became progressively louder, she came to a decision it was best she woke up.
She tip-toed to her bathroom, praying she wouldn't wake the two sleeping beauties. Since they were both paying her, Amy was finally able to take a shower after chaos knows how many days. She smelt awful. The touch of burning hot water onto her bare skin caused her to jump. It was almost like she had forgotten how hot she usually took her showers. She proceeded to refresh her body as she heard Rouge yawn from outside.
'Great…' Amy thought to herself. The bat was up and only she knew what she had planned for them today. It was nice to know someone had a better sleep than her. Once she had finished moisturising and getting dressed, she made her way outside to see Rouge greet her with a sleepy grin, as the bat made her way to Amy's bathroom next.
After what felt like an eternity, Rouge had finally come out. Sally was now awake and came into the hallway with puffy eyes.
"Sally, we found Steve," Amy said lightly, hoping it wouldn't trigger her friend into crying once more. To her surprise, Sally simply nodded, not saying anything further to the girls. It may have been because she just woke up? Or because she was still attached to Steve? Or the combination of the two. Rouge noted her silence and continued to talk in order to avoid the awkwardness Sally had now created.
"I have a friend, Sticks, who works in the hotel Steve is at. She'll keep an eye on him to see what he's up to," Rouge finished before reaching her now vibrating phone.
"Guys, this is her! Gather round!" she squealed with joy.
The girls stood next to Rouge in anticipation. They looked to each other nervously before Rouge answered the call.
"Rouge….you won't believe this!" Sticks started off in a rush.
"Steve isn't planning on staying here long at all," Sticks paused. Rouge was left speechless for a moment, but replied to the badger swiftly onwards, "Why, what's going on with him?"
"Steve, or should I say, Shawn, is planning to leave in two days. He's tricked one of the tourists into giving him money, I SAW WITH MY OWN TWO EYES!" Sticks stated abruptly.
"Rouge, I was at the reception, he said he wanted to check out today. I refused and told him that the company policy says you cannot leave earlier than your booked stay. He told me it was an emergency and he has a ticket booked for Spain!"
"I've convinced him to stay for the two days, but you have to hurry!"
"Thanks Sticks for the heads up! The bastard can't run away from me."
.
"So he's used another fake name? He's leaving for Spain! In 2 days?! Oh I'm not ready!" Amy cried out as she warmed her hands. The thought of her executing the plan even earlier than imagined gave her chills. Rouge's friend had seemed serious over the phone, the fact that the blue hedgehog had yet again successfully tricked another female into giving him money frightened Amy. He really did know what he was doing. She on the other hand had no clue on how she was meant to act.
"You will be! Sally, call your stylist, we need to give Amy a makeover." Rouge ordered as Sally unlocked her phone in search of her stylist's number.
"While you get that done, I'm going to set you a fake account. We also need to get tickets booked for Spain." Rouge indicated.
The bat paused for a moment. She looked at Amy up and down before scrolling through her phone. She repeated this process several times, unable to come to a conclusion.
"You need a fake name too, Amy is fine, but we need to scratch your last name. What could it be?"
Amy's eyebrows narrowed in thought. A fake name was not something she thought she needed. Then again he could find her name from the news articles of Justin firing her and if that happened, their plan would fail right there. It was only for safety. What could be substituted for Rose? "How about, Elise?" Amy suggested. Rouge's eyes gleamed, indicating how happy she was relating that name.
"Oh it's perfect! I'll get Rob to make an account now." Rouge smiled before trying to find Rob's number. Elise was indeed perfect, not too over-the-top, but not too simple either. A perfect combination. Mostly, it was believable, nothing too suspicious.
.
"Ow that hurts! Be gentle," Amy complained as a mature walrus applied extensions to her hair. Rouge had demanded Sally to call her stylist over. It was essential for Amy to have a makeover.
"Ammyy, please don't be so difficult, the results will be amazing," Sally reassured her as she looked the walrus in the eye, signalling her to continue. The walrus nodded back at Sally before combing the extensions already applied with her real hair.
Amy was never the one to get so dolled up. If she ever needed to go out, her natural hair would be styled and her make-up would be at a minimal. There was no need to go extra in her eyes. Beauty was with simplicity. She rarely ever went out in the first place, she preferred staying at home in her safe haven.
However, she was not Amy Rose, she had to play Amy Elise. This was something she had to bare in mind. Her behaviour and thoughts were much different than that of Amy Rose. Amy Elise loves to be pampered, there would be nothing else she enjoyed. She winced as she felt another hair extension clip in.
Why was she always the one to make bad decisions? Taking on Justin's project proved to be a bad decision. Agreeing to Rouge and Sally was piecing together to be a bad decision. Agreeing to get a makeover had been the most painful decision.
"I can't breathe with these hair extensions," Amy overemphasised to Sally, who rolled her eyes in response. Amy was never the one to be dramatic, but learnt it was one way to get her friends off her back. Even if she could make the walrus leave half way without finishing, Amy would be happy. The pain was all to much.
"You breathe through your nose, what do hair extensions have to do with your ventilation?" Sally pointed out. Of course the chipmunk would say that! She got them done all the time, probably by the point where she doesn't feel the pain. Amy shook her head in disagreement which she instantly regretted.
"Ow ow ow, oh chaos what did I do to deserve this?"
The walrus had been fitting a few more extensions, however, the immediate movement of her head caused her to tug her hair, applying even more pressure to the already fitted fake hair. Amy was in pain but decided complaining wouldn't get her anywhere. She looked up at the walrus and gave her a death glare, to which the walrus nervously chuckled back.
.
"There, all done! Go have a look in the mirror!"
Amy muttered curses under her breath and refused to go to a mirror. The whole experience had been more than painful. How was this woman Sally's stylist in the first place? She had heard that extensions cause hair to fall out. But throughout the process, she could physically feel her hair being ripped out.
How she wasn't bald already, even she didn't know.
Sally had been in her kitchen throughout this time, preparing lunch for the three of them. It was a better alternative than listening to Amy whine. She thought Amy was calm, but giving her a makeover summoned chaos knows what demon inside of her. Sally knew no method to calm her pink friend down. All of the foul sayings she had yelled at the lady were just Amy being dramatic. Once she had finished cooking up her pasta, she decided to check up on the two.
"Oh my goodness, you...you look so good!" Sally praised as she stood frozen by the door. Amy stared back at her in disbelief, a frown forming on her lips. The walrus had done a good job? Even after ripping her scalp of? She knew she would have to look into a mirror eventually, so she proceeded to get up and prepare for the worst.
Her hair had been up to her shoulders prior, but now they fell to the end of her back. She looked elegant, classy even. Her mouth was left open at her transformation. She looked like a princess..no, she felt like a princess. She turned to the walrus with a faint smile on her face. "Sorry," she murmured. The walrus laughed.
"You're a really pretty girl Amy Elise," Sally winked as Amy fake blushed, causing both of them to giggle.
"Not just yet!" The walrus cried out. "I have a facial kit ready to use, apply it for about 30 minutes and then wash it off, this will complete your look!"
The walrus took a cream out of her bag and placed it carefully on the desk. She got her payment from Sally as the chipmunk apologised for her friend's tantrum earlier on. Once the air was cleared between the two she made her way out.
.
Rouge's arms ached from all of the shopping she was carrying. It was all for Amy. If she was pretending to be rich, she had to look the part. The bat had gone on a frenzy, buying the most expensive of things. Dresses, makeup, jewellery, everything. She had spent nearly three hours outside whilst Amy was still having her pampering session.
She had finally made it back to Amy's, thankfully in one piece and rang the doorbell. While she waited she took the opportunity to place all the shopping down on the mat outside. She loved shopping, but to carry it all back alone was a challenge.
"Rouge what took you so—"
"Darling, you look gorgeous!" Rouge cut Amy off while hugging her at her door. Her transformation was even better than imagined. She looked so different, so mature! People passing by gave a few stares at the two friends, before minding their own business and making their way along.
"Maybe you can compliment me inside?" Amy suggested, bending down to pick up some of the bags. Rouge nodded before doing the same and followed her inside.
The bat placed the bags on the sofa before sitting down on the opposite one. She was exhausted. Running back and forth from one store to another simply because she had forgot an item gave her a workout she could never forget. Thankfully she had bought all the outfits she had in mind for Amy.
She smiled, nonetheless, if this all worked in her favour then every second of her tiredness would prove worthy. Anything to watch that hedgehog frown.
"Amy try out a couple of these outfits, we need to take a few pictures for your fake account. Rob has requested me to send them over tonight by the latest."
The pink hedgehog nodded before taking three bags over to her room. She came back a few minutes later in a strapped pink and white checked pinafore dress which stopped above her knees, with pink pumps and a few rings in her fingers to finish off her look. Her hair was half up in a loose bun, while the rest flowed down.
Rouge and Sally stared in disbelief. She looked nothing like the Amy with the stained pyjamas. The bat had known deep down that Amy was the right person for her mission. Seeing her like this only justified her reasoning even more.
"Do I look silly..?" Amy questioned timid, she was concerned why her friends were staring at her and not saying a word.
"Honey, you look amazing!" Rouge complimented, "She's all grown up!" Sally shed a fake tear before smiling back at Amy.
.
The photo shoot had now ended. Rouge and Sally successfully took many pictures of Amy in various outfits and poses. Rouge did not waste a second in sending Rob the pictures, who messaged her back with a thumbs up emoji, indicating he was ready to start his work on the account.
It was coming up to the time of Amy's soap opera. The girls offered to watch too knowing they had nothing better to do. Amy didn't expect her friends to become invested in her show so quickly as they did.
It was comforting for Amy to see her friends look after her so well. It stopped the loneliness that she had felt over the weeks. She never had a family, but this felt like one. Eating together, watching shows together, just spending time together in general.
The credits started rolling as her friends complained.
"Urgh seriously! I hate Jean, she's trying to separate the two!" Sally cried.
"The posh girl really needs to set her priorities straight. Just go to him already!" Rouge pointed.
The girls waited for the next programme to come on, while Amy made her way to the kitchen to whip up some hot chocolate. She came back and handed her friends their own cup, respectively. Rouge got a notification from Rob saying the account was up and running.
A quick scan of the profile left Rouge impressed. It looked genuine. She tugged Amy to sit by her and showed her the account. The pink hedgehog was astounded to see many pictures of her with fake likes. A bio emphasising how much money she had. It looked all too real.
"Now for the important part," Rouge began as she turned to Sally on her left and then Amy on her right.
"Amy Elise is the daughter of multi-millionaire Reese Elise, your father. You don't have a mother, she passed away when you were young. But her name is Sienna Elise." She paused to check the understanding of her friends before continuing.
"You have two older brothers, Kyle and Devon, who run large chain companies together. You were poor when you were younger. Your father's restaurant business blew up, forming a chain and that's how he became a millionaire."
"You came to Spain to try and set up a business of your own. You brothers made fun of you for not being the useful one in the family. You told them you would set a successful business without any help, got it?" Amy nodded once more.
"If you can try and get Steve...Shawn, whatever his name is, to help you by investing, that money will come back to me and Sally, which makes up for what he took from us."
Amy hesitated for a moment, her mind racing at the endless possibilities of how their mission could go wrong. She held a deep breath before expressing her concerns.
"What if he doesn't agree? What then?"
Rouge looked puzzled for a moment before placing her hand on Amy's shoulder. "This plan is fool proof, he wants the money. He'll do anything you'll say. Trust me?" Rouge questioned.
Trust her? Amy had always trusted Rouge. She was a beauty with brains. Nothing ever went wrong when Rouge was by her side. She was keen on this whole heist, she had planned every little detail. So how could she not trust her now?
"Always, with my eyes closed." Amy replied, hugging Rouge, who reciprocated back.
"Perfect, your ticket is booked for tomorrow." The bat parted from the hug and grabbed for her phone to forward the ticket details to Amy.
A ping went off on Amy's phone as she proceeded to check all the details. She looked back up at Rouge confused.
"This is only for me? Where are yours?" Amy questioned with worried eyes. Sally and Rouge looked at each other, then back at Amy with comforting smiles.
"You'll need to be on your own for a few days, me and Rouge will be with you as soon as we can! We need to double check every step of the plan." Sally explained.
There they were again. The doubts racing endlessly in her mind. Occupying her, filling her with worries. She suffocated in them. The 'what ifs?' echoing her ears. Being alone wasn't something Amy enjoyed, she always messed up when she was alone. Her interview, her presentation, most things in general. She knew she needed to block away all her negative thoughts, they could interfere with her performance.
.
Airports were always busier in the evenings. Amy sighed as she rested the lower half of her body on a bench inside. Her luggage was taken, she had her boarding pass ready. There was still a few minutes left before checking in.
She smiled as she saw a happy couple and their young child running to the nearest store to buy over-priced airport chocolate.
Other couples were screaming for not having packed shampoo and other essentials on their trip. The husband huffed as he made his way into the store to buy some. Not that Amy has been eavesdropping, they were simply way too loud.
It was nice knowing these people had someone to look after and be looked after themselves. The concept of family always fascinated Amy. It was something she never got to experience. She wanted to be the child that pestered her parents into buying something expensive at the shopping stores of the airport.
She sighed as she got up and slipped her purse onto her shoulder and held onto her boarding pass and passport. She walked over to a queue of people waiting to check in and enter the plane.
She grunted lowly, more waiting? She had waited enough at that bench already. She fidgeted with her boarding pass before looking up and noticing a blue figure ahead in the queue.
Amy focused her vision, hoping her eyes were deceiving her. It was Steve? Shawn? Whatever.
He was in casual jeans and a grey t-shirt with a slightly unzipped hoodie. As much as she didn't want to admit, he looked more handsome in person.
She quickly dialled Rouge's number to see her pick up the call in a flash.
"Steve is here! What do I do?" Amy whispered loudly, causing the man in front of her to turn around and glare at her. He had his son over his shoulders sleeping soundly, who was creating ruckus earlier. She knew the man wanted to keep his son asleep so she flashed him a nervous smile.
"That's on you hun," Rouge giggled.
"You knew?" Amy expressed loudly, once again causing the man in front to glare down on her.
"Of course I did! Sticks called again to tell me that his flight changed from tomorrow to today! And what better way to introduce yourselves than on a plane?!" Rouge snickered once more.
An angered Amy immediately cut the call and brought her hand to her forehead. This girl was just unbelievable. And to encounter Steve right now, unexpectedly, on a plane? Only chaos could help her make it through this flight now.
A/N: Whewwwww that was an unexpected turn of events! How do you think this will turn out? A review is greatly appreciated! Thanks again.
