The queue of people managed to get shorter slowly but surely. With each person now boarding the plane Amy could feel her heart rate increase even more than before. She tilted her head slightly to see if Steve had checked in.
He was speaking with the male at the desk, right in front of the line, showing his passport and boarding pass in the process. Satisfied with all his checks, the man gave permission for Steve to board the plane. He smiled at the man before passing through the gates, limiting Amy's view of him.
Amy brought her head back in and huffed. She could try and avoid Steve throughout this flight and commence her plan after she landed. She simply hoped she wasn't situated anywhere near that blue hog. But Rouge wanted her to start right now. She knew if she told Rouge she hadn't done what was planned, the bat would make her life more difficult.
'Amy Elise is scared of no one,' Amy reminded herself as she tried to calm down. Their first encounter was going to happen now, and Amy was prepared for it!
A few more minutes had gone by, Amy was now second in queue. She was becoming impatient with all the waiting. It had come to a point where she just wanted to get her encounter over and done with. The man in front of her thanked the male once his checks were done as he made his way onto the plane, while his child still remained asleep over his shoulder.
Amy greeted the male at the counter. She handed over her passport and boarding pass before waiting awkwardly for him to make his checks.
"That's all good Miss, enjoy your flight!" The male at the desk said with a sweet smile as he slid the documents back to her.
"Thank you," Amy replied as he nodded his head politely.
.
The pink hedgehog was now aboard and checked her seat number, trying to figure out where she was meant to sit. She scanned the numbers at the edges of the seats, frowning at the digits not matching.
Noticing a stewardess ahead of her, Amy took the opportunity to ask her where her seat was situated. The lady asked Amy to follow her as she checked her boarding pass. They walked down to the end of the cabin where the hostess pointed to her seat. Amy thanked the stewardess for her help and sat down.
Next to her was a sleeping baboon who snored in her ear. The pink hedgehog grumbled and shook the man to stop his snoring. Thankfully he didn't wake up, but that didn't put an end to his snoring. Frustrated, Amy scanned her surroundings in search for an empty seat she could swap for. Her eyes paused at the sight of Steve sitting in the window seat staring outside at the view. The seat next to him was empty! Jackpot.
Without wasting a second, Amy swiftly got up and sat next to Steve, who looked at her funny. The pink figure adjusted her hair and put on her seat belt. She turned her head to see Steve look at her confused.
"I guess we're together for the rest of the flight, I'm Amy, and you are?" she said whilst holding her hand out.
"What's it to you?" Steve rolled his eyes before replying back rudely.
Amy removed her hand and placed them in her lap. She faced forward so that she wasn't directly looking at Steve, but so he still remained in her periphery vision. "Can't a girl be nice?" she questioned.
Steve pondered for a moment before making a comment. "I'm sorry, that was rude of me to say. The name's Sonar."
Another fake name? Oh of course! This was his usual thing to do. How did he come up with that many names in the first place? Amy shrugged off her thoughts before turning back to the blue hedgehog smiling.
"Nice to meet you Sonar. Soooo where are you heading?" Amy asked casually to avoid him from feeling awkward. The hedgehog lowered his book from his gaze and looked at Amy, "Errr this resort near the airport we're landing."
"Nice, me too."
Amy lied, she had no idea where she was going. It all had to match where Sonar was heading. Their encounters had to look like they had been by chance, even though every single one had been planned for. Sonar looked at her funny before thinking nothing more of it. He lifted his book, trying to read peacefully once again.
Amy was going to open her mouth once more to talk but Sonar immediately stopped her. "Look, Amy is it? I appreciate you making small talk and stuff...but I'm just not interested. Leave me alone please."
Amy was utterly disgusted by his response! This was not how he was supposed to act at all. According to the plan, he should be all over her. That's the theoretical response they had predicted. Amy sighed, there was nothing more she could do today. This guy took no interest in her. He thought she was trying to make a move on him? In his dreams.
Even if he was the last man alive, Amy would never intentionally make a move on him.
She rested her head back and closed her eyes. Patience was everything. She needed to stay calm. If she lost her mind right now, Sonar was bound to disappear again. That was something she, and the other girls couldn't afford.
.
Amy blinked her eyes open as she woke up from her nap. She turned to her side to see Sonar asleep with his mouth open. No snores escaped his mouth. Amy smiled, pleased she was sat by someone that didn't pester her with their loud snoring.
The pink hedgehog took note of her companion's features. His fur gleamed bright in the light of the evening. The last rays of sun emitting onto him as he slept soundly. His quills were now slightly messy than they had been before. He was still griping the book he was once reading. He seemed like he could be someone with a normal life. No one would ever assume this man was a con artist.
She couldn't help but think about why he was a con man. Was he some sadist who enjoyed women crying over the money he stole? No, he didn't look like that. Judging from earlier on, he did have respect, like politely declining Amy, who he thought she was interested in. He looked innocent. But they do say, the innocent ones are the ones you should be the most careful of.
Amy hesitated slightly as she saw Sonar open his eyes. She instantly placed her headphone set on and started scrolling through her phone for songs. Sonar took a split second to see what Amy was doing before reaching his arm up for a stretch. At that moment a stewardess approached the two asking for drinks.
"I'll just have a water thank you," Sonar said politely despite the urge to yawn wanting to take over. The stewardess quickly grabbed a cup and filled it with water from a jug and handed it over to Sonar.
"Can I get orange juice?" Amy questioned. The stewardess nodded as she opened a fresh carton of orange juice, reaching for another cup and filling it before passing it to Amy.
The two hedgehogs thanked the lady for her services as she made her way ahead to serve the rest of the passengers. He had good manners, Amy would have to give him that. He had been polite throughout their flight. It made her feel guilty that she had to con him.
That thought swiftly filled with anger as she recalled the events Rouge and Sally had gone through. The two personalities that he presented were extremely different, something Amy couldn't process. This polite man sitting by her is able to betray someone's trust and go about stealing their money? The world truly is a weird place.
.
The plane had landed. Amy couldn't muster enough courage to talk to Sonar again, not after he turned her down like that. She was now at the airport trying to retrieve her luggage and getting a hotel room before calling it a night. Everything up until this point felt disastrous.
She eagerly scanned the luggage belt hoping she could track the one suitcase she bought. She frowned at the sight of the last set of bags. None of them were hers.
She glanced over and saw a couple of other people waiting for their belongings, including Sonar. She didn't stare at him long, he was already annoyed as it was. She took note of his movement, approaching the belt and grabbing his suitcase. As Amy's eyes trailed to look at what he was picking, she noticed her own suitcase.
The pink hedgehog dashed over, grabbing her extremely heavy luggage with all her might and slammed it down onto the floor. She made her way to the exit, walking as quickly as her legs could carry her.
The sudden breeze that invited her through the doors caused her to stop and grab her shoulders. Wearing a dress had not been a wise choice. Her arms filled with goosebumps and her teeth chattered. She took a mental note to bring a jacket with her the next time she travelled. Opening her suitcase to find one didn't seem appropriate, it would only waste more time.
As if her prayers had been answered she felt a tap on her shoulder. She flipped to see Sonar holding his hoodie out for her, the same one he wore earlier.
"Here, this should be okay hopefully." He spoke softly.
Without a second thought Amy grabbed his hoodie and put it on, even placing the hood on to cover her ears. She heard Sonar chuckle slightly at her immediate response but she smiled at him nonetheless.
"You have no idea how cold I am right now," Amy started as she warmed her hands.
"I do, that's why I lended you my hoodie," Sonar pointed as he stood with a half sleeve cotton top, showing off his slight biceps.
"Thanks...how can I give this back?" Amy asked to which Sonar held his hands up in defense.
"Keep it, I have plenty."
With that he quickly grabbed his suitcase and made his way outside, taking on the cold night with open arms. He had left Amy awestruck once again. She clinged onto his hoodie with a bright smile on her face for a brief moment. Realising she was stood still, she continued her journey to the resort, now blocking out the harsh weather successfully with new found warmth.
.
"Hi, can I have a room please?" Amy asked the receptionist.
She had managed to make her way to a very expensive looking hotel within the resort that Sonar was supposedly at. She has asked a taxi driver if there was a resort by the airport, much to her delight there was only one. That same man offered to drop her off. It wasn't far at all, a half an hour drive at max.
"Yes of course. May I have your name and how many days you intend on staying?"
"It's Amy Elise. I'm not sure how long I'm staying, a month for now."
The receptionist began typing and paused once finished. "That's 998 rings please."
Amy Rose would never pay that much for a hotel, she would go for something far cheaper. But Amy Elise enjoyed her luxuries to the maximum. Remembering her role, she quickly handed the male cash. He then got off his chair and went to the back to grab the room keys. He handed them over to Amy before sitting back down.
She dangled the keys as she made her way up the flights of stairs, her heels making everyone aware of her presence in the process. She scanned the corridor noticing the door numbers increasing. She made her way to the opposite side of the hallway where she stood outside room 12.
She blew out slightly, happy she had finally reached her destination. As the key met the lock, Amy swung the door open revealing a lavishing room with a king size bed, a walk in closet, bright light coming from what she could only assume was the bathroom and a balcony outside.
She placed her body weight on door after entering, locking it from behind before leaping onto the bed, kicking off her unfitting shoes in the process. She now had the opportunity to enjoy this lifestyle that had been unfamiliar to her. Amy recalled how mesmerised she had been when she saw Justin's balcony. Now she had one of her own!
She rushed to the balcony door sliding it open. Her eyes gleamed at the sight of the resort. The light waves brushed the sand of the now isolated beach, then disappeared back into the ocean. People danced the night away at a brightly coloured club, temporarily forgetting their sorrows and putting their morals aside. Fairy lights dangled from the street lamps, illuminating the area as if they were placed to thank Amy for coming specifically. It truly was a view to cherish.
She felt the breeze flow through her hair and tugged onto the hoodie she wore. Ahh yes, the hoodie Sonar had given her. Why was he being nice to her in the first place? He didn't exactly know about Amy Elise yet. To him, she was a normal girl. Whatever it was, it made Amy smile like a school girl.
She did need to let her friends know she had reached. With that thought Amy left the balcony and drowned into the mattress, reaching for her phone on the side table and dialled Sally's number.
"Hey Amy! Have you reached?" Sally asked as soon as she picked up.
Amy answered Sally's question and began explaining the sequence of events that occurred. How Steve was now going round as Sonar. How they did end up sitting together on the flight but he cut her off immediately. The responses Sally gave in between suggested she was concerned.
"Ohh...Rouge won't be impressed with that. But you still need to let him know you're the daughter of a millionaire? Try something tomorrow and call again. I'll let Rouge know." Sally suggested as Amy cut the call.
It was true. Sonar needed to know she was 'rich' so that their plan could begin. She needed to do something bold that would draw his attention to her. But what? Amy sighed, she was exhausted as it was. She'll try to figure out something spontaneous on the go. Right now all she needed was sleep and luckily she had the perfect bed for it.
.
Bright rays fell onto a sleeping Amy as she woke up squirming and covered her eyes with her hands. The night had flown by so quickly, leaving Amy refreshed but also craving more sleep. She yawned before deciding it was best she got up for a shower.
The pink hedgehog made her way to open her suitcase to finally unpack and place all her clothing into her closet but got distracted by the balcony. She made her way outside an took in the view. The desolate beach she saw last night no longer remained. The sun was out, unbearable to some based on the sweat drops forming on their face. She noticed a volleyball court with a few people playing and her eyes desperately looked for one figure.
Amy smirked as she saw Sonar by the court sun bathing. Now was her opportunity to strike. Without wasting anymore time, she went inside the bathroom for a shower.
A few more minutes had gone by, Amy had showered and was now dressed. The pink hedgehog took one final look in the mirror before facing her nerves. She wore a white crop top with blue washed shorts and a shear white kimono for modesty. Her quills laid low, except the sides were braided and crowned together at the back of her hair with a simple rubber band. Pleased with the way she looked, Amy prepared to face the blue male once again.
.
She was now on the beach and hid her nervous eyes with reflective sunglasses. She took one step at a time before reaching the court. There was no rushing it. Only chaos knew how awful this could turn out. Amy gulped slightly. Thinking this plan through in her head seemed much better, but to actually execute it out? She was worried.
She quickly brought back her confidence with a smooth paced walk. She turned her head slightly to see if Sonar was still taking in the rays. Yes he was. Amy continued as she approached a muscular wolf with a few of his friends at the volleyball court.
"I want to play too." Amy declared with confidence causing the game between the friends to stop. The wolf caught the ball and made his way to Amy with a sly look on his face.
"Look guys, pinkie wants to play volleyball. You wouldn't last a second with us, go get out of here." He said as he turned his back to Amy heading back to the court.
"You don't know who you're messing with," Amy said as she lowered her sunglasses while the wolf turned back to face her confused.
"I mean, if I told my multimillionaire father that some douche tried to mess with his little princess, he wouldn't take that well don't you think?" Amy teased the wolf further causing him to become agitated. At that moment she saw Sonar lower his glasses, paying more interest in their little disagreement.
She continued, now satisfied her bait had worked. "Look, I don't want to be rude or anything but my dad could buy you in minutes all you need to do is name a price. Or he could even get the mafia on your back." She whispered the last line to the wolf causing him to frown.
"Don't be sexist you scum. Don't you know how to talk to a lady?"
Amy gasped as she saw Sonar by her side who looked at her with a smirk on his face. He was just a few metres away a second ago, how did he manage to get here so quickly? Amy shook her thoughts as Sonar continued.
"All of you versus me and her." He proceeded to say with confidence. She nodded hesitantly. At that specific moment Amy wanted to disappear, she had landed herself in a predicament. Somewhere she obviously didn't belong, a volleyball court.
Playing actual volleyball hadn't been part of the plan. Amy had just seen the males dominate the court and push away anyone that would try and play from her balcony. Her plan was only to do the same, but add in the detail that messing with her was a mistake since she was rich. She was no good at volleyball. The last time she played was years ago. Even then she was trash at the sport.
"Okay guys get in place, I have a change of rules. We can pass as much as we like but the first one to slam the ball down on the opponents side wins." The wolf paused.
"If you win we leave this court but if we win...pinkie has to go on a date of torture with me." He said bitterly, angered by Amy's threats and determined to win more than ever.
The pink hedgehog gulped at the bet. None of this was meant to happen! Sonar just made things a lot more complicated. She would've just walked away if he hadn't intervened. They were bound to lose and as a result she would have to endure torture from her newly formed rival.
Sonar took note of her worried expression. "In your dreams!" He spat, causing the wolf to boil even more.
"YOU'RE ON!" The wolf roared as he surfed the ball to their end of the court.
Sonar dashed quickly with his arms ready as he slammed the ball back in his opponents direction. Amy took note on how quick he moved on his feet. Maybe there was a chance that they could actually win?
Realising her partner was alone on the court, Amy rushed to his side, her hands ready to volley. One of the wolf's friends passed to another member of their team before shooting the ball across the net in Amy's direction. This was her moment to shine. She bashed her hands janky against the ball in Sonar's direction, who successfully shot the ball back over the net and gave her a worried look. Her pass had been weak.
If Amy were to face the ball again she was going to faint. She was worse than she thought. There was no way she could help Sonar win. Forget the conning, Amy just wanted to help the blue hedgehog win, for her sake more than anyone else.
Again, the ball was tossed across the net. This time Sonar volleyed it to Amy, who prayed her hands wouldn't deceive her. As soon as the ball made contact with her thumbs, it swung high and over the net. Two of the opponents fell to the floor in hopes for volleying the ball across the net.
Lucky for Amy's rivals, the third player managed to pass to the wolf, who gave an evil smile to Amy as he palmed the ball in her direction. Now confident with her passes and without anymore doubt, she passed to Sonar, who hesitated seeing the ball coming in his direction so suddenly, but finished with a brilliant bash. Their opponents never saw the ball coming. It slammed the wolf in the forehead. He fell to the floor alongside the ball.
"W-WE DIDDD IT!" Amy gasped excitedly in disbelief as she high fived Sonar.
"Seems like SOMEONE won't be playing here anytime soon." Sonar let a cheeky remark slide in while he chuckled.
The wolf grunted as his friends carried him up, one at each side to support him. A crowd began to cheer, which Sonar and Amy didn't notice until now. The kids and teenagers rushed to the court, finally having a chance at playing what they enjoyed most. Amy blushed at all the claps as Sonar nervously scratched his quills.
Once the claps had finished, each person respectively made their way back to what they were doing prior. Amy was thankful everything turned out in her favour. She managed to catch Sonar into her trap and also got rid of that pesky wolf.
She walked away from Sonar and sat by the edge of sand, her feet in the water with her knees bent slightly. She placed her sunglasses on and stared at the sea, taking in its beauty.
She turned her head, surprised to Sonar lowering himself to sit by her. He continued to look forward as she straightened her head to do the same. The atmosphere was peaceful. Both never uttered a word, they simply sat silent enjoying what nature had to offer.
"Sooooo..." Sonar started breaking their silence, he placed his hands behind him as he leaned back slightly, preventing the sun from blinding him. His gaze shifted from place to place, not keeping it fixed.
"We make a pretty good team, huh?" He questioned, now looking at Amy with a smile on his face. Amy rotated so that she faced him directly. She kept hush for a few moments before bringing up her point.
"You didn't need to come to my rescue like that you know." She stated simply, shrugging off his comment, trying her best to not give him the attention he craved. He really didn't though. If they had lost the game, it would've done Amy more harm than good.
"I guess not. But something told me I should, he was just so rude." He now splashed his feet in the water, trying his best not to ruin the moment by mentioning the wolf and his appalling behaviour.
Amy paused. So he was polite and thoughtful? It left her quite shook. Up until now she had doubts in her mind. Was she meant to con him? Did Rouge and Sally track the right person? Was this Steve's twin?
"I guess he was a BIT rude." Amy chuckled.
Sonar scratched his quills slightly. He hesitated before asking a question hoping Amy would be okay with his nosy nature.
"Errrr what are you doing here in Spain? I heard you've got quite the money."
Amy looked him in the eyes. She could tell he was anxious about the question asked. She could tell he didn't intend to offend her. She shrugged her shoulders slightly before answering his question.
"I-I'm here to prove myself," She paused, hoping it would add emphasis to her character. Amy Elise needed to become a real character and she was bringing it to life.
"My brothers...they think I'm useless in the family. They think dad pampers me too much." She paused to see Sonar look at her.
"You seem fine to me." Sonar scanned Amy top to bottom, even touching her shoulder to make sure she was fine, causing her to chuckle.
"Reese Elise is known to spoil his only daughter you know." She said now playing with sand, taking it in the palm of her hand and then gently releasing it. Sonar simply nodded before Amy continued.
"I've told them I am capable. Yes I was stupid and naive before, but not anymore. I guess I'm here to set up my own business by myself. But I've not properly thought it through." She frowned causing Sonar to look at her puzzled.
"Why?"
Amy stopped playing with the sand and looked up to him. She looked in his emerald eyes, hoping to have a dominating effect. But rather she got lost in them. She mentally snapped herself back to reality to answer his question.
"Dad normally transfers money into my account every month. I...I've spent everything. I'm not getting anything for a month. I need a partner to invest for the time being. I'll invest the money into the business as soon as my money comes through."
Sonar pondered for a moment before sharing a smile. "I could be your business partner? I don't mind investing." He paused trying to find a reason to justify his proposition.
"I mean earlier on we did make a pretty solid team." He questioned which caused Amy to look at him funny. It was all part of the plan. The more she played hard to get, the more effort he would put in. The more genuine it would seem. Would it make sense for a rich girl to partner up with someone she met a day ago? Probably not.
"Ummm I think I need to have an interview before selecting my partner don't you think?" Amy teased causing Sonar to shake his head in embarrassment.
"Uhhhhhhhh sure, yeah of course." Sonar paused as he cleared his throat with a cough. He pretended to tighten an imaginary tie with a smile on his face.
"My name is Sonar The Hedgehog and I would like to become Amy Elise's business partner." He stopped as he saw the pink hedgehog hold a straight face. She immediately burst out laughing at his dry interview response. The least he could've done was try harder and give a genuine response. Her contagious laugh caused him to chuckle too.
The con was on. May the best player win. This was certainly going to be interesting.
A/N: Ahhhhh they've finally met and everything! I enjoyed writing the airport scene where Sonar hands Amy his hoodie! I do have an outline planned for chapter 5 but we'll see when I get to write it! Reviews are an indicator of how much you guys enjoy this, so do make sure to leave one if you want more! Thanks for your time :)
