"That was lame, you could've at least put more effort in." Amy mentioned between her laughs.
"Did it work though?" Sonar questioned in hopes that the newly befriended pink hedgehog would allow him to be her partner. She sat silent for a few moments figuring out her reply.
"Anyways, I'm thinking of opening a boutique." Amy spoke. Sonar faked a hurt response as the pink hedgehog dodged his question completely.
"Amy Elise, I asked you a question and you didn't reply." He brought to her attention once more. Her laughing stopped all of a sudden. She could tell he was desperate for her to say yes.
"How can I trust you Sonar?" She paused facing up to him before continuing. "Why are you helping me in the first place? I've only known you for what...a day in a bit?"
Amy could've said yes to him straight away, though what was the fun in that? She was curious to know what response he would make up on the go to answer her questions. Spontaneity was key here. Amy Rose wondered what his response would be, more so that Amy Elise.
Sonar placed his reflective sunglasses on once more. He grabbed his knees and sat still for what felt like a minute. Amy could tell he was trying to come up with something good, but surely it wouldn't be good enough. At least that's what she thought.
"To be honest, I've seen it. I've seen people try so hard to prove themselves...but whatever they do isn't enough...ever." He fixed his glasses before finishing his point.
"If I could help one person prove worthy in the eyes of their loved ones then that's cool. I'm chill with investing."
Amy broke a smile from her serious demeanour. His response had been better than anticipated. She was now certain he wasn't a sadist, which relieved her slightly. It was either a genuine response or he was simply a great actor. Either of which was okay for now. She wasn't going to question it further.
"Besides, if I mess up in the slightest, I'd probably have your dad eat me alive. Trust me that's something I don't want." Sonar put his hands up to signify he meant no trouble.
Even though his responses satisfied her, Amy turned cold again. She recalled how on the plane he had been rude to her, for no apparent reason. Now that he learnt she had money he was eager to be buddies with her. It was time to get her answers.
"Hey Sonar," Amy looked up to him as he replied with a simple "hmm."
"You weren't this friendly on the plane? You shushed me straight away. D-did you think I was flirting with you?"
Amy's question caused the blue hedgehog to fluster. He suddenly became uncomfortable, looking everywhere but at Amy to avoid this new tension that filled the air. He sensed the pink hedgehog become impatient with his awkwardness, so he proceeded to answer.
"...No, no way haha," he said nervously while scratching his quills.
She knew it! He was lying straight to her face. He HAD thought she was interested in him on the plane. Seeing him all shy made Amy grin. She had made her enemy vulnerable.
"It's perfectly fine if you thought that. I was just trying to be nice." Amy shrugged her shoulders, making it seem like it was no big deal.
"Look Amy I wasn't thinking you we-"
"Fifty one, forty nine," the pink hedgehog cut Sonar off. He raised one eyebrow, confused why she was blabbering numbers at him.
"Say what now?" He questioned. Sonar took a moment to think about what those numbers meant. Was it some inside joke? Or something to do with the Elise's? Nothing came to his immediate thought.
"Fifty one percent of the business will be mine. Forty nine percent will be yours. You cool with that?" Amy asked leaving the blue hedgehog dumbfounded. It took him a second to find his words and accept the deal.
"Perfect." He said with a smile.
Amy managed to get up and brush the sand off her legs. Sonar copied her response and followed her a couple of steps behind. They made their way over to a beach bar. She took the opportunity to order drinks for her and Sonar and asked the female serving her for a pen and paper.
Once the necessities were gained she proceeded to write a business contract, stating their names and how much they owned, along with the terms and conditions Sally told her to add in to make it seem genuine. She signed and dated under her name and slid the now formed document to Sonar, who held the contract up to read. He was happy with all the details except he wanted one more term.
"How about when your money comes at the end of the month you give it over to me?" He mentioned casually, causing Amy to give him a concerned look.
"As in, I'm very good at managing money and seeing potential to invest. We wouldn't want you using up your money on shopping or...other things do we? It'll help with the boutique." He said wisely.
The pink hedgehog knew too well the game he was playing. As soon as she handed him the money at the end of the month he would vanish from her life forever. The whole point was to be two steps ahead of him. She had known he would bring this up eventually. Amy gave a comforting smile which Sonar reciprocated. If that's what he wanted, then that's exactly what he'll get.
"...I guess your point makes sense, let me just add that to the contract." Amy said as she grabbed the pen from his hand and wrote the final term of their contract.
"There, it says I, Amy Elise, give consent and will hand over all my investments to Sonar The Hedgehog on the 3rd of next month."
Sonar brought out his phone and checked the date. It was the third. The countdown had begun. Amy needed to retrieve all of Sally and Rouge's cash from this con's clutches in a month. There was no time to be wasted.
"Yep, I'm happy with that. Let me sign." He asked reaching his arm out for the pen. As the pen hit paper, Amy felt a smile appear on her face. Phase 1 of her plan was now officially done.
She and Sonar had their drinks and exchanged numbers to keep in touch. After an hour or so at the beach bar, they said their goodbyes and Amy made her way back to her hotel. It was now time for her to check in with Rouge and Sally.
.
"Rouge you're a genius!" Amy squealed.
She had made it back to her room and decided it was best to rest. It was hard pretending to be someone you're not. After a peaceful nap, she was eager to share the good news to her friends via a video call on her phone.
"Okay okay, calm down. We need to know all the details." Rouge said as she fixed her seating position to let Sally join the conversation.
"Well Sonar did everything exactly how you expected him to," Amy started.
"Hold on, who's Sonar?" Rouge questioned and then turned to Sally with a raised eyebrow.
"I forgot to mention that Steve goes by Sonar now." Sally laughed nervously which caused Rouge to roll her eyes.
"Well, he wasn't paying me much attention until I declared to the whole resort I'm rich. But then after I told him my 'backstory', he was okay to invest." Amy paused in anticipation for their reactions.
"Ohh my goodness! That's great news Amy!" Sally clapped as Rouge remained confused.
"Did he add the term like I expected?" The bat questioned.
"He did. He's dug himself into a hole."
Hearing her response satisfied the bat, she was pleased with Amy's actions so far. There was nothing to complain about. The fact that the blue hedgehog completely followed the traps they laid boosted her ego. It meant she was smart, smarter than him.
"But guys, what's next?" Amy questioned. She secretly hoped it wouldn't be anything too extreme. The volleyball stunt she pulled earlier was so close to backfiring. She couldn't risk anything like that again. After all, Sonar was unpredictable.
"Just take it chill for a few days. Build his trust," the bat emphasised.
"Me and Sally will be with you in a week okay? For the time being just try and get him to believe Amy Elise really is helpless at this moment in time."
Amy was relieved that her friends wanted nothing extreme to be done. She concentrated on all the points Rouge and Sally mentioned about her character, taking on board every little detail possible. She couldn't afford him catching her out on something she didn't know about herself. So learning these like the back of her hand was key.
"Ohhh and one final thing. I texted Rob to see if anyone by the user Sonar checked your fake profile out." Rouge said, not hinting the outcome of Rob's searches.
"And there was only one person in the radius of your location, their number ends in 529?" She finished.
Amy brought up her contacts page and checked for the number Sonar dialled in earlier. A smile creeped on her face as she made her way back to the video call app.
"It's a match!" She exhaled, thankful that they secured his interest completely. He wouldn't suspect a thing now. Her friends shared a similar response. They congratulated each other with a hug before thanking Amy for everything done so far.
"We can't get ahead of ourselves though. Amy just continue as normal and don't let him doubt you one bit. See you soon." Rouge waved, which the pink hedgehog copied back.
The call was cut, and Amy could be more relieved! Now she could just relax.
She slammed her head down on the pillow. It was an odd job, but satisfying nonetheless. Despite conning a con, Amy enjoyed the happiness her friends got from her actions. The atmosphere became peaceful. She breathed in a rhythmic fashion, hoping meditation would relax her even more.
Though a loud ringtone interrupted her chance at reaching peace. She reached her arm out to pick the call, too lazy to actually get up. At this point, she didn't even bother to check who was calling. She simply accepted and held her phone to her ear.
"What?" Amy answered in a lazy tone.
"Woah looks like I called at a wrong time, sorry Ames."
Amy double checked to see if she was hearing things before holding the phone in front of her face. She definitely wasn't imagining things; it was Sonar on the other end of the line.
"...Oh Sonar, n-no now is okay. Everything good?" She hesitated at his sudden call.
"Yeah, yeah. Everything is good. I was wondering if you've thought of a name for the boutique yet?"
Amy narrowed her eyebrows. He had called her despite the fact that they signed the contract what, 2 hours ago? He really wasn't a time waster.
"Ummmm no?" She said in a confused tone. Amy hoped Sonar would clarify why he called.
"Ohhh in that case, I have an activity planned to help us choose the name. Send me your address, I'll be ther-"
"Could we do tomorrow? I'm just super exhausted right now, jet lag and all." Amy cut him off.
"...yeah, sure, of course. See you tomorrow." Sonar cut the call right before Amy had the chance to do so.
The pink hedgehog smiled at her phone. He really was spontaneous. He wanted them to pick a name out already? He really was keen.
'Idiot.' Amy thought to herself as she rolled her eyes. She was going to see the blue hedgehog again tomorrow. She worried what activities he had planned for them but brushed it off. With the sudden sounds of her stomach going off, Amy alerted herself to go make lunch.
.
The next morning, Amy sent Sonar a text with the hotel name along with the room she was staying in and to come by 11:30.
She glanced up at the clock noticing it was already 11:00. She was yet to have a shower and dress. The pink hedgehog fumbled with the clothes in her closet as she pulled out anything that matched. She rushed to her bathroom and took a quick shower.
She ran to her room to dry her hair with her new outfit, which made her sweaty once again. She cursed at the fact that she woke up later than usual. She was the one that texted him this morning about details of the time they'd meet yet was the one that fell asleep after sending the alert.
She quickly did her hair and put on her shoes. Now glancing over at the clock and reading 11:27. Breakfast wasn't going to happen for her this morning. She frowned at the thought of her stomach lacking food. After all, it was her true love.
The sudden noise of the doorbell buzzing alerted Amy of the blue hedgehog's presence. She made her way to the door to be greeted by Sonar. He wore a navy tropical print shear top, a few of the top buttons were undone, but Amy wasn't complaining. He looked good.
"You look good." Sonar complimented Amy at the doorstep. He scanned her up and down.
Amy had simply worn the same outfit as yesterday except instead of a kimono, she had a white hoodie tied around her hips. She had her hair into a side braid. He was probably exaggerating about her appearance, but Amy accepted his comment.
"Thanks, you look good too." She complimented back.
As Amy made her way outside and locked the door behind her, her stomach rumbled. Sonar took note of all the growling her stomach was doing. During this time, the pink hedgehog hung her head low in shame. It was embarrassing.
"We should stop for breakfast." Sonar suggested as he walked forward towards the staircase leading down to the exit. To his comment, Amy simply nodded. There was no arguing that she was hungry. With no fuel in her body she wouldn't be able to survive the activities Sonar had planned for today. She sighed and jogged to catch up with her blue partner.
.
"Woah calm down there. We don't want you choking now do we?" Sonar laughed while sipping his coffee.
It was unclear how Amy ate all that food. Did she chew, or take bites, who knew? All Sonar was able to tell was his companion was hungry and was now satisfied. The full plate that once existed was now empty.
"I'm not done yet." Amy added as Sonar shook his head in disbelief. This girl wanted more?
"What? Don't look at me like that? I didn't have breakfast!" Amy whined causing Sonar to hush.
He had never seen a girl like her before. Normally all the girls he met would eat one bite and say they were full. But she was honest with her appetite. That was one thing he could appreciate about her.
"Waiter," Sonar signalled the waiter to come over and pointed in Amy's direction to indicate she was the one wanting more. The waiter quickly made his way over to Amy as Sonar simply finished his coffee.
"To finish up, I want a strawberry milkshake." The pink hedgehog ordered as the waiter made his way back to the drinks machine. She stared at Sonar who looked bored. She couldn't blame him. All he had done till this point was watch her eat.
"Was your coffee nice?" Amy questioned, trying to break the silence she had created by her outburst at Sonar.
"The coffee was good. How was your feast?" Sonar teased, causing an angered Amy to throw multiple napkins at him. He dodged them and one of them accidentally hit the man behind Sonar.
Sonar checked behind and saw the man deliver death glares at him to which he simply raised a thumbs up, indicating to the man that it was nothing personal, just a small misunderstanding. Amy kept her mouth sealed, trying not to cause the customer behind them to rage.
The waiter brought back Amy's milkshake and placed the bill on the table. The blue hedgehog reached for the bill and his eyes widened at the figures.
"57 rings for a breakfast!? Ohh chaos." He complained as he brought out cash. He shook his head in disbelief as he paid the bill and both hedgehogs made their way outside.
.
"What are the activities we're doing today?" Amy asked after taking a sip from her milkshake.
"Well...I have a trick to help us choose a name. Just keep following me." Sonar reassured her.
"Well since we're discussing about boutiques. Let me just make it clear what I'm visioning." She said whilst playing with the straw of the cup she was holding.
Amy turned to Sonar who smiled at her suggesting he was ready for her to state the details.
"Well...we need to buy land in a place that's luxurious, but I'm planning on having big designers give us their products to sell for a small percentage commission. It'll help attract people. How does that sound?"
Sonar shrugged his shoulders, running a boutique wasn't part of his expertise. He couldn't comment on much Amy said.
"I don't know much about boutiques, but your plan sounds good."
"OUR plan." Amy emphasised as she nudged Sonar's shoulder before making her way to the nearest bin to throw her now finished milkshake. He scratched his quills nervously at the gesture but thought nothing of it.
The two walked for another 15 minutes before Amy stopped to take in the view of the busy area. Sonar had brought her to the local marketplace? What good was this going to do? The ambience was lovely, but she couldn't put a finger on how this was going to prove beneficial.
"We're here!" Sonar exclaimed as he held his arms wide open.
Amy simply rolled her eyes before peaking behind him at the view. The market was indeed busy. Many stalls were set up by the locals who were receiving payments for the goods they sold. She didn't understand what this had to do with them though?
"...How is THIS going to help us?" Amy finally asked.
"Well here's the thing. We go round looking at the different names of the stalls and shops around here and hopefully come up with a name for our business in the process." Sonar mentioned.
Amy for one didn't understand his logic but didn't question it further. Was this how he came up with all the fake names to con the girls, by going around market stalls? Oh, what an idiot! But still it was a cute idea.
"Alright, I trust you. Let's give this a shot." She reassured before taking the lead and investigating the different names of the stalls.
Sonar followed behind closely, hoping he wouldn't lose her in the flood of people.
"So we begin at a fruit stall," Amy began as the blue hedgehog nodded.
"Hmm but this isn't going to do us any good, we're opening a boutique." She said sarcastically.
"Let's keep moving." He suggested, hoping Amy would understand the concept of this activity and not drain him with her negativity.
The two hedgehogs walked by a few more fruit stalls before noticing a local clothes store. They stopped outside and glanced at the sign, the sun almost blinding their vision in the process.
"Angel's wear, oh gosh." Amy sighed before laughing hysterically. They needed something posh not tacky. Where the name of their boutique was going to come from she didn't know. At this rate, they were better writing different names down on paper.
"This idea sounded better in my head. But it's clearly not working. Let's head back." Sonar suggested, slightly annoyed that the market stall names didn't meet their brief.
As Sonar turned to retrace his footsteps, Amy grabbed him by the shoulder. He flinched and suddenly turned back to face her.
"Heyyy...I appreciate you doing THIS. Just because we can't come up with a name here doesn't mean we can't enjoy it's beauty. Let's just have fun exploring."
She was being genuine, bringing out a bit of Amy Rose. It was no good making someone feel bad about something they had good intentions for. She was happy with the effort he had put in.
Whatever voodoo Amy spoke worked; Sonar gave her a weak smile. The marketplace was still a wonderful place to spend the rest of their afternoon. The two eagerly continued their journey.
.
"Mhmmmmm these are soooooo good!"
Amy was in heaven. Her and Sonar had stopped by a place in the market where they offered strawberries covered in chocolate. Needless to say, they were amazing!
"One of the best I've ever had." Sonar said as he eagerly took another bite.
As Sonar was devouring the strawberries, she took a moment to notice his behaviour. Nothing had screamed fake today. Right now he was busy enjoying the littlest of things, like eating chocolate covered strawberries. His persona at that moment in time was child-like. Innocent.
Amy stopped staring at the blue hedgehog, afraid she'd be caught and focused her attention on a billboard sign. Her eyes widened as she instantly turned to Sonar tapping his shoulder.
"Sonar, there's a fair 5 minutes away from here. We have to go!" She squealed, unable to contain her excitement.
Sonar laughed at her reaction. "For a rich girl you sure get excited by the littlest of things." He teased.
Amy frowned upon this statement. It hurt her, not that it should of. He was just joking. He had no intention of offending her. She wanted to shrug it off but was unable to.
"I've not always been this privileged you know," She said as they walked.
"As a child I was quite poor. Dad didn't have the money to take us to rides and stuff. I try and take the opportunity to enjoy a fair whenever they're here."
The blue hedgehog's feet suddenly stopped as he heard those words escape her lips. He mentally smacked himself for making such an insensitive comment. He should've been wiser.
"Amy, I-I'm so sorry..I didn't mean to offend you." He apologised.
She was fascinated by the emotions he was producing. Her words had been deep, but it's exactly what Rouge had told her to say. He didn't pity her, which she appreciated. He was apologising for his wording.
"It's cool...hey look we're here!" Amy reassured.
Sonar was still not satisfied. He gently held her hand which caused her to shiver slightly and gave it a small squeeze. Amy plastered a weak smile on her face, hoping to hide the blush that was developing on her face. The moment between them ended as soon as it started. Sonar let go of her hand and ran ahead.
Amy blew out, hoping her heated face would return to normal. After several repeats, she no longer felt flustered and followed Sonar around.
The blue hedgehog stood at a side and observed one of the rides. The highest, most dangerous one of them all. She stood behind and slowly tapped his shoulder.
He turned around in an instant and through his expression, Amy was able to tell he was intimidated by that particular ride.
"I want to go on THAT one." Amy said as her eyes wandered to face the ride Sonar feared.
"Are you sure? I don't think you can handle it." Sonar said, his ego far too big to admit he was the one that didn't want to go on the roller-coaster.
"Oh please, this is nothing. Come on. Plus I'm wearing good clothing too." Amy discarded as she tugged Sonar's arm to the queue of people waiting.
Sonar scanned Amy, remembering she was wearing shorts. With multiple attempts of getting Amy off his back, the blue hedgehog finally gave in. Nothing could prevent him from getting on now.
And so they stood. Amy shifted occasionally to see what position they were in. Approximately 20 people stood in front of them. The ride could fit 12 people from what they understood. So they were bound to get on the second one.
As everyone shifted forward and fixed themselves securely on the roller-coaster, Amy and Sonar found themselves towards the front. He handed cash to an employee guarding the entry to get the wristbands required to ride.
With each passing second, Sonar felt more and more hesitant. Amy noted how silent he was ever since they joined the line. She couldn't help but snicker to herself silently. This man in front of her could con a person, but was scared of rides? That sounded so ridiculous to her.
"Is something wrong?" Sonar said sarcastically. He was able to tell that she was laughing at how much he was contemplating this.
"Pffff I don't know. You tell me?" She said with an eyebrow raised.
"You're scared, aren't you?" She declared as she stepped closer to him.
"I am not." Sonar defended as he folded his arms.
During their bickering the ride had come back and stationed itself center to the exit. Some of the people coming off look mortified, some came off fine, others looked like they were about to throw up.
The employee at the front opened the entrance, as the next set of people sat themselves in pairs. Amy happily secured her restraint as Sonar fumbled with his but managed to figure it out in the end.
"Relax." Amy said as she turned to face Sonar.
"These things are secure." She reassured further.
"There's still a chance we could die from this." Sonar complained. Amy ignored his comment as the roller coaster slowly began moving up a gradient.
The coaster stopped at the top. The pink hedgehog peeped to her side. They were definitely up by more than 100 metres from the ground from what she could tell. She turned to check up on her companion, who was surprisingly calm.
"This ain't too ba—" Sonar stopped as the coaster picked up sudden velocity and accelerated down. He clung on to the metal rod in front of him with all might, as did Amy.
Two consecutive loop the loops appeared in the pink hedgehog's vivid vision. She gasped for air, suddenly feeling sick. She couldn't make out how Sonar was feeling in the current moment but hoped he wouldn't notice her near sick state.
Needless to say, Sonar felt himself become dizzy and in a near state of unconsciousness. He knew this ride was going to be wild, but to actually experience it first-hand broke him entirely.
As if their nightmares had come to an end, they landed directly beside the exit. Amy and Sonar took a moment to get their bearings before lifting themselves to reach the exit.
"Never again." Sonar muttered as Amy bent down ready to throw up.
"You were the one that wanted to go on this and look, you're doing worse than ME!" He exclaimed.
After the urge of throwing up had left, Amy got up to face Sonar. "I thought it'd be fun!"
The blue hedgehog shook his head. He knew this idea had been dumb in the first place. "Let's get some cotton candy and leave."
.
The evening started to roll in. It became slightly breezy. Luckily Amy had brought a jacket with her. She instantly put it on and turned to Sonar as they waited for their cotton candy to be made.
"Well this was a waste. We didn't exactly come up with a name for the boutique." She said dryly.
"Yeah I guess not." He added, slightly defeated that they were unable to achieve their purpose.
Sonar handed Amy the now ready cotton candy, who quickly started to demolish it. He paused whilst observing her. Despite her weird behaviour towards food she looked fine. Even after that mess of a ride, she remained well, at least she looked perfectly fine, like it had never happened. The pink hedgehog looked elegant in his eyes.
And with that simple observation he had a name! Something that couldn't be done in hours was achieved in a few seconds.
"Elise and Elegance." He suggested.
Amy's ears perked up. She lowered the candy from her mouth and looked at him with bright eyes.
"It's...perfect." She said and she quickly ran Sonar to hug him as a reward for his hard work.
The sudden gesture confused the blue hedgehog. His face became heated, unable to comprehend what was going on. A mixture of emotions began taking over, something he wasn't familiar with.
Amy parted from the hug instantly, unaware of the effect she had on her blue companion. She quickly ran towards the exit as Sonar stood still. He knew he wouldn't need anything else to warm him up this evening. Sighing to himself for becoming flustered, he ran to catch up with Amy.
Alas, they finally had a name for their business.
A/N: I appreciate this chapter is slightly chaotic haha! But their interactions are very important! The next two are going to be jam-packed! Thank you for your patience, I will try and update again this month if possible. Reviews do make my day - so please feel free to leave one! Thank you!
