WHEWWW! It's been a while but I have returned with another chapter! Hopefully you enjoyed the SonAmy fluff from the last chapter! Please do make sure to leave a review! Enjoy!
Gosh she was an idiot.
Of course she had to go kiss him of all people. Her mind constantly replayed the moment they shared over and over again. It was to the point where she couldn't stop smiling. Urgh, she really needed to wipe that grin off her face. She wasn't here for romance. It was for a purpose.
But did she really want to continue this plan of hers? No, not really. That annoying blue hedgehog had somehow developed a soft spot in her heart, she couldn't hurt him intentionally, yet she couldn't hurt the girls either.
There it was. The battle between right and wrong, good and bad; her head and her heart. She needed to find herself again, then force herself to stay on track. Stumbling off would not only cause Rouge and Sally loss but would also threaten her pay. Something she was desperate for in the current moment.
She tried to recall the disgust she had felt when she met him on the plane, to bring out her negative emotions. But they were overridden with all the good times they had shared, the compassion he had shown, the comfort she had felt. It was no use, she was getting nowhere with this. It was as if all those emotions were removed from her and replaced with eerie flutters that blossomed endlessly as she remembered the kiss.
She kicked off her heels and quickly put on her comfort clothes. All she needed to do was wipe the last event of the night; the kiss. Then everything would return to normal. End of story.
Sonar had been drunk anyway, he wouldn't remember it? She hoped so.
This secret needed to be kept to herself to avoid all potential consequences of her doing.
But right now she needed sleep. She would go crazy if she let her brain whizz through tonight's events again. All her problems could be dealt with tomorrow.
.
It was now the next morning. She had slept soundly, like a baby. Yesterday had not been an easy night to say the least. There had been too many close calls. She couldn't risk anything unexpected like that again. Her heart wouldn't be able to handle it.
Amy yawned, making her way over to the bathroom with tired eyes. She just wanted to spend a day to herself but knew that wasn't possible. Too many things needed her attention today: Silver, Sonar, an explanation to Rouge and Sally about the disastrous event Mrs Bailey almost caused...
She paused at the last thought. Tails would've probably told them everything by now. But then again, if they had known about Mrs Bailey's sinister move, her phone would've been going off non-stop. So acknowledging Tails needed to be done first. Perfect, another task to the list.
She observed herself under the immense lighting in the bathroom mirror with a brief smile on her face. No, not this again, she wasn't going to smile because of Sonar. She wouldn't let it. She moved her fingers to the corners of her mouth, pulling it into a frown whilst nodding to herself in the mirror. This was more appropriate.
The pink hedgehog giggled at how silly she looked before splashing cold water on her face. She carefully opened her eyes and compared her reflection to before. No stupid smile, perfect.
Now feeling refreshed and ready to take on another brutal day, she sat by her dressing table, quickly dialling a number and placing it on loudspeaker whilst simultaneously beginning her makeup.
"Hello." She heard a tired voice from the other end of the line.
"Rise and shine." She said, pausing to put face lotion on.
"Amy, urgh. You could've called later. I'm sleeping." He groaned.
"Tails!" She quickly replied knowing he'd put his phone down. "I just need to confirm one thing and then I'll leave you alone."
"...Fine but it better be worth it." The fox said, his voice becoming clearer.
"Have you... told Rouge and Sally anything about last night?" She asked hesitantly.
"About Mrs Bailey? ...No? I'm stopping by later today to collect my pay. Do you want me to say?" He asked.
"Nonono. Leave it to me, you just go and say everything worked out." She said now brushing her hair.
"Sure. Can I sleep now?" He whined.
Amy chuckled at her fox friend, he had to have exhausted. After all, he was the one making all the errands for her last night. "Of course Tails. Just one more thing... Thank you for keeping watch at the party. You were my knight in shining armour."
She heard Tails laugh over the other end of the phone. "This knight needs to sleep. Bye." He finished, now ending the call.
It fascinated her how easily she made friends with the fox, just like when she was younger, when situations were easier. Being locked away in the small office Justin offered prevented her from befriending new people. This was just another perk of her being involved in the plan.
She frowned slightly though, holding her phone to her chin. Tails hadn't yet broke the news to the girls. That meant she'd need to do it on her own. Amy knew they'd both freak out over the near mishaps, probably even scold her for not being careful. But her main worry was this - Should she tell them about Silver?
Things could go haywire for her if she did, which could easily be avoided if she chose not to speak. She could picture their reactions. All of them involved her being screamed at. The pink hedgehog rolled her eyes at the thought. She'd decide later if that was worth mentioning. One thing she knew she would not utter infront of them though was the kiss.
She was contemplating telling them about Silver, the kiss would be a ticket to her death. No, it was best to seal that away in her void of 'things that could've been avoided but happened because you're an idiot.'
She really was an idiot for that move.
.
Amy tread across the sand lightly, making her way towards the beach bar. Silver had called confirming the time they'd meet. Despite the rays of sun blinding her eyes, she just about recognised the silhouette of the hedgehog she needed to come clean to. She became tired with the sand weighing her down, but tried to hurry up, eventually reaching and taking the stool beside him causing him to lift his head.
"Sooo," He paused, lowering his shades slightly. "You finally had the time to let me in on things."
Amy shrugged at his comment. What she was doing was something that took courage. Yet here she was with Silver, who was still salty over her not telling him last night. It wasn't on purpose, yesterday's environment was barbaric.
"It's not like I have a choice. After this Silver, you're going to be a liability. I need you to promise me that whatever I say now, stays between the two of us." She said looking into his eyes to express her concern.
"You have my word." He reassured, placing his hand on hers to which the pink hedgehog gave a weak smile.
At the same time, a lady in an apron came over and placed a cup of strawberry milkshake infront of the silver hedgehog, who shifted it to Amy's direction.
"You knew?" She questioned.
"It's all you got when we worked together. How could I not know?" He smiled brightly whilst Amy brought the straw to her lips eagerly.
"Do you really want to know? I'll probably change your view on me." She frowned.
"It can't be that bad, I promise not to think of you differently, whatever it might be." He said certain that he would stick by his word.
She sighed lightly. After this moment, things wouldn't just stay between her, Sally and Rouge. There would be a fourth person involved, one that they weren't aware of.
"Here goes nothing," she paused to look into his eyes, deciding whether backing out was still a viable option. She breathed in deeply. He deserved to know, especially after all the help he offered last night. He and Shadow were the reason why she still stood a chance at executing her plan.
"After I told you to stop transferring money into my account... things got bad." She paused once more and inhaled deeply.
"I couldn't pay my bills, rationing my food became difficult, and I was getting close to not having enough money for rent." She frowned at the memory.
Silver nodded for Amy to continue, sympathy written all over his face. He knew it was a sensitive topic for her but just needed to know the truth, to help her.
"And then, I fooled the electric company that I had paid my bill... and Rouge was there, and Sally was outside and..." She paused, trying to stop herself from going off at a tangent.
"Hang on. Aren't they your wealthy friends you would tell me about?" Silver asked to which she nodded.
"They were both conned by the same person. Sonar, the one that was with me last night." She noticed Silver raising an eyebrow, confirming his lack of understanding thus far.
"I'm on a mission. To con him... and get their money back. They're paying me for it." She managed to choke the last few words out. The pink hedgehog bravely looked at Silver, hoping he upheld his promise of not judging her.
The other hedgehog placed his hand on her shoulder. "Ohh Amy," he spoke with a soft tone. "This isn't right, and you know that. To con a con makes you just as bad."
He continued further, "You should call it off. I'll get you a job. You don't have to do this, you don't have to be there with him. Who knows what that hedgehog is capable of? It's not safe."
He thought of more arguments to get her off this mission full of rabbit holes, "This could cost you a lot legally. One word and the cops will be on your case. Your reputation would be in bits." He warned.
Amy frowned before removing Silver's hand from her shoulder. "Silver, I told you because you wanted to know. It's not your place to decide what I do. Besides you've done me enough favours. How can I accept another one?" She questioned with sad eyes.
"Are you kidding me?" He smiled softly. "You still don't understand?"
Amy raised an eyebrow at his question unaware of his implication.
"I like you dummy." He confessed whilst scratching his quills.
"I just want you to be safe. And this is NOT safe. Just please, think about what I said about finding another job. I'll help you with it." He said swiftly moving on from his heart-felt message, to which Amy was still shocked about.
"Silver w-what you said about you liking me, since when?" She questioned further completely ignoring how he just offered her help in finding another job.
"Since the beginning I guess?" He paused and took a deep breath. "I was too afraid of what would happen if I mix my work and personal life." He said shyly.
Amy was shook, she had liked Silver at that time too, yet was confused about his feelings for her. Her mind began wandering in all directions. Things were getting messier the deeper she proceeded. The kiss, Silver expressing his feelings, what could possibly come next?
"I-I appreciate you saying that but,"
"I liked you too at the beginning," she quickly blurted, scrapping the last half of what she was initially going to say knowing it wouldn't come out right. "Things are just chaotic right now." She cleared.
"I understand," he gave a comforting smile from which Amy could sense a hint of disappointment.
"Just... think about what I said okay?" He reminded her to which she squeezed his hand.
"Okay."
"Sooo I was thinking we could go to this new restaurant that opened in nearby. Are you in?" He grinned.
Amy shared his excitement with a beaming smile. "You have no idea how much I need that right now."
.
"Sooooo good!" Amy praised after taking a bite of pasta.
Silver chuckled, they had both ordered the same thing, yet Amy had been more pleased with the meal than he did. He had to admit it wasn't the best restaurant he'd been to.
"Really? I'm not a fan." He said whilst picking up his fork, carefully observing the pasta he had barely touched before scrunching his face.
The pink hedgehog swiftly got up and grabbed his fork and slammed it on the opposite side of her cutlery. Silver jumped at her sudden action and looked confused.
"No, you do not diss this pasta. You don't like it? Then that means there's more for me." She grabbed his plate and dragged it to her end of the table before blowing flying kisses at the pasta. The pink hedgehog quickly took a large bite which she began choking on, immediately regretting it.
"Might wanna be careful with that Ames." She heard whilst chugging down a glass of water. She instantly turned to see an annoyed hedgehog look down on her.
"Sonar."
Silver also froze at the sight of the blue fraudster amongst them. He didn't like the fact that he'd have to let Amy handle the situation alone, not after he knew about his true character. Though he had no choice. He couldn't rat her out. He had a promise to keep. The grey hedgehog quickly got up and paid at the counter before leaving the restaurant entirely.
Sonar quickly moved into the seat Silver previously sat in, before glaring at Amy. The pink hedgehog stayed hush for the most part. She could sense his piercing eyes stare into her soul as she simply looked down at her plate of food. He had never seemed so annoyed before, then why today?
"How are you?" She said dully, finally deciding to look up and face him.
"What are you hiding Ames?" He said defeated, no longer showing anger.
The pink hedgehog looked up at him, his emerald eyes portrayed confusion, a sort of betrayal. They were nothing like she was used to seeing. He looked... lost.
"What do you mean?" She dragged further.
The blue hedgehog scoffed at her question. "I don't know...? You for one, were scared of Silver the moment he arrived, then I see you close to tears at the party and now you're having lunch together?!"
He blew in for air before finishing, "Seems a bit off you know?"
Amy's eyes widened at what he said. He wasn't blind. He saw the way she ran away from Silver last night so her having lunch with him made no sense at all. Another problem she had created for herself. She couldn't risk blowing her cover now. She needed to come up with something quick.
"I was just discussing business." She cleared, dropping her head low as she played with her hands nervously.
"No way, you don't take a client's plate and eat all their food. Besides, Shadow wasn't even here. If we needed to talk business it's important for me to be there too." He said in annoyance.
"Do you remember anything else from last night?"
The blue hedgehog paused at her question, she had ignored his comment completely. Though he focused his memory hard on what happened last night with nothing coming to his conscious.
"No? Except the guests suddenly deciding to leave. Everything else is fuzzy..."
He quickly shook his head; everything made much more sense. "Oh chaos. Amy if he's the one spreading a bad word and blackmailing you to do this then I'm gonna snap him into two!" He clenched his fist.
Amy gasped at his horrendous accusation. He thought Silver was the one that nearly ruined their party? And that he was forcing her to go on lunches with him? That was bold of him to assume since he was the one acting suspiciously overprotective.
"Are you crazy? No, that's not what's going on."
Sonar froze. No blackmail? What other possible explanation could reason what he had just seen!?
"So then... what is this?" He gestured, his tone more confused. "Are you seeing him?"
One good thing about this encounter was Sonar had no idea the kiss happened. That meant she could easily hide it from everyone around her. Though seeing him so confused hurt her. Things would be simple if she could be we Silver, yet she just couldn't bring herself to fake those feelings. She wished her feelings for him could come back so that her life could become normal.
She saw a waitress come into frame, casually blowing a bubble with her gum. She gave a fake smile to the two before speaking.
"You've finished eating. We need you to leave. We have a queue." She tilted her head showing the line of guests that stood outside the store.
Sonar laughed to himself quietly. "You're seeing him, aren't you?" He repeated, pain oozing from his expression.
The waitress held her hand on her hip, growing impatient with the lack of response she was getting, not to mention the awkwardness she felt between the two hedgehogs.
"I SAID... guests are waiting for a seating area. PLEASE LEAVE." She repeated louder.
Sonar slammed his hand down on the table before glaring at the waitress. "SHUSH!" He yelled in desperate attempt to see his partner respond to his question.
"Amy... I asked you a question." He said causing the waitress to give up and walk away muttering curses under her breath.
Most of the people within the restaurant now faced them; some with worry on their faces whilst others appeared annoyed. The attention built further once Sonar shushed the waitress.
"I-I'm not. Let's just get out of here and I'll explain everything." She said defeated.
What choice did she have? In the same day, she had let Silver in on everything and now she had to explain to Sonar her opposing behaviours towards Silver. All because she had to keep the plan intact? She never signed up for this.
She thought back to Silver's suggestion. Perhaps agreeing with him and finding a more suiting job would bring back some normality to her life? The further she plunged into this mess, the more difficult it became to tie up the loose ends that remained. It was all becoming to get too much for her. She was mentally exhausted. Everyone breathed down her back constantly, yet no one asked how she felt.
How Amy Rose felt.
.
"I'm sorry... I wasn't thinking straight." Sonar cleared as soon as the two walked out of the glass doors of the restaurant. He acted on impulse. In the heat of the moment.
Amy turned to him. "You were acting like a psycho Sonar! You can't just walk into my life whenever you want, it doesn't work like that!" She released her frustration.
"You created a scene in there for no reason. I can't loom around you 24/7! They'll be times where I will be with others." She took her anger out.
Sonar put his hands up in defense. "No, you're right. I don't really know what happened there. I'm not the 'angry-kind', it's just... something in me ticked."
The pink hedgehog groaned at his response. Where was this personal insight before? If he could've contained himself it would've saved her from the embarrassment he had caused in the restaurant. She hated creating scenes, no, she hated watching scenes unfold in front of her. Sonar had crossed the line.
She noticed a bench by the street lamp. Amy quickly grabbed Sonar's hand and dragged him over, pulling him onto the bench. Enough was enough, she would no longer tolerate his toxic behaviour.
"You're sooooo interested in what I was doing with Silver right?" She mocked noticing his blank expression. "He's a friend of mine."
Amy swung her legs back and forth for a few moments before looking up at the continual blank stare Sonar gave. This hedgehog had the audacity to cause a scene, force her to explain something she shouldn't have to yet stare at her innocently like he had done nothing wrong?!
"You want more?" She laughed silently to herself.
"Things between us were left... rocky. So seeing him at the party didn't help. But now everything is good... minus you barging in and interrupting the reunion."
Sonar hid his face in his hands. "I'm such an idiot." He muttered to himself which Amy just about heard.
"Say something new hedgehog, I already know that." She teased further, her anger fading away at this point. He groaned as he lifted him face, resting his folded arms on his thighs.
"I'm sorry," he said genuinely. He never meant to cause any trouble to Amy. He was confused with his own actions and understood why she'd be annoyed at him too.
"No, just because you said sorry once doesn't mean I'll forgive you." She huffed, closing her eyes and briefly turning away from him.
The blue hedgehog frowned at her response but quickly tapped her shoulder, one arm behind his back. Amy turned to face him. She couldn't care less at what he was hiding, enough damage was done.
"Whatever you're hiding won't get me to forgive you, I'll tell you that already." She declared.
Sonar carefully brought his hand in front of her and observed her expression. It moulded from cold to soft. Her eyes glimmered at the takeaway packet he held.
"I was going to come round yours so I thought a takeaway from a new place couldn't hurt. I'm genuinely really sorry Ames." He scratched his quills once more.
Amy eagerly took the takeaway packet and hugged it close. Her expression turned cold once more as she noticed a cheeky smile appear on the blue hedgehog's face.
"Fine, I'll accept this as a token of remorse. But that still doesn't forgive you for acting like a psycho!" She spat.
"Greaaaaattt." The blue hedgehog groaned as he sunk his cheeks on the palms of his hands, which rested against his thighs.
"But I'm your business partner!" He suddenly remembered. "You can't stay mad at me forever, we work together!" He finished his sentence with a wink.
"Pleaseeeeee forgive me." He begged.
Any groaned at his pestering. "Urghhh...fine," she gave up. "Her highness forgives you." She shrugged.
"His highness is pleased." The blue hedgehog bowed. Amy furrowed her eyebrows at his response, oh no he didn't.
"You're no highness, no one made you one you peasant."
"Okay I'm done. Let's stop. I'm the peasant, you're the highness. I'm the dumb one, you're the smart one. I'm just glad you're not mad at me anymore." He sincerely spoke.
Amy clinged to his shoulder, "You're off the hook this time." She winked at him. "But next time, the highness will not be so benevolent."
Sonar took her warning. "The peasant understands, your highness." He replied, finishing his sentence with both of them chuckling. They were both goofy, they couldn't stay mad at each other for long.
"I like your company." He admitted causing her laugh to stop suddenly and stare at him blankly.
Sonar shook his head to clear the weird confessions he was blurting out without thought. It was true, things were just better when she was around him. Her energy was something he enjoyed, much more than he would've liked to admit. But revealing that to Amy was not something he intended on acting on, yet here he was with his mouth shooting words without a filter.
"I mean... You're a great business partner. The best one I've had in a long while." He tried to cover.
Amy nudged him slightly. "Hey, I didn't ask you for a compliment." She giggled, pleased she had such an impact on him.
The pink hedgehog was relieved he viewed her as her partner and nothing more. The kiss had already complicated things in her mind. It was good to see he was still focused, she required that concentration for the continuity of her plan.
"So, the next part of the business plan is what?" He questioned.
All their nit-picking had stirred them away from what they had originally paired together to do. The whole point of them being together was to set up a well-established boutique they could both benefit from. It was about time he brought them back on track and talked about what else needed to be done. They had clients thanks to the party, but what was next?
"Finding a location for our boutique." She smiled brightly.
This was the phase that would play a major role in bringing back the money her friends had lost. It all came down to this. All the cash they had gathered so far was a job well done. But this, this was going to be another level.
No more messing up, no more with her being surprised from the people of her past. No. This would be perfectly executed. And then with everything restored, once her friends were satisfied they had all their money returned she'd vanish entirely. Perhaps start her life over again with a new job. Pretend this never happened.
Amy snapped out of her thoughts as she felt her phone buzz against her hand. Her eyes widened as she noticed the caller was Rouge. The pink hedgehog quickly got up and excused herself away from Sonar.
She picked up and quickly began speaking. "I'm with S-" but got cut off immediately.
"Amy, WHY IS SILVER HERE!? Do you want to explain to me HOW your little friend knows about MY PLAN!? Get yourself here immediately before I lose my cool." She screamed causing the pink hedgehog to wince, her ears bleeding with pain.
She heard Silver screaming in the background at Rouge and panicked at what he had done.
"I'll be there." She alerted the bat, quickly cutting the call and beginning to take deep breaths.
She dashed back to Sonar who stared into nothingness. He was definitely back to the Sonar she knew; the cool, calm and collected hedgehog. Despite her wanting to stay and discuss the location of their business, she had other things to take care of.
"Erm... I need to go now. I'll see you tomorrow?" She awkwardly asked.
"Yeah sure, let me drop you." He said getting up from the bench whilst taking his car keys out.
"No, no... I'm...uhhh... meeting Silver." She quickly added on to which she observed his facial expression drop but quickly jumped up from the weak moment.
It was the partial truth. She was going to meet Silver... who was at Rouge and Sally's place. To sort out the mess he had created. She had told him to keep his mouth zipped yet he landed her in the same predicament she wanted to avoid in its entirety. From what she understood, Sonar wasn't too pleased with her meeting Silver again.
"Oh, yeah... Catch you tomorrow." He brought his hands to his forehead saluting her before walking away.
Amy ran the opposite direction with all her might, she needed to get to Rouge's. She gasped for air halfway through, stopping her legs for a moment. Silver wasn't meant to utter a word to anyone. Everything was supposed to be under control. Now she had to deal with an angry Rouge and an angry Silver, not the best combination.
Either she would get slaughtered by Rouge for letting him know or be forever guilt-tripped by Silver for becoming a part of this in the first place, all alongside their endless squabbles. She mentally slapped herself for telling Silver without consenting them first. Whatever bad blood was going on at their place would only be resolved if she got there on time.
And without a second thought she ran...
A/N: Seems like Amy really isn't given a break, just one problem after another. What do you think Silver has done? Is Sonar suspicious of Amy after the events of this chapter? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the reviews. Until next time!
