The flashing red and blue lights illuminated the dark ship port. The constant noise of radio static and the voices of men surrounded the area. The cool wind brushed the small blonde hair child as he was pressed against the police car door. He had the window down to be able to listen to the echo of voices brought by the wind. His paranoia had increase in the presence of the officers, yet he manage to act ignorant of his surrounding and listen to the reports of the case. His eyes flicker to the side view mirror and in the distance stood Private Detective Mouri with the short Tokyo police Inspector and another police officer of the homicide department. He stranded his ears to listen to their conversation and his eyes to read their lips from the side view mirror. Anxiety was felt when he watch the Detective Mouri point his finger towards the car. Minutes later the police officer next to the Inspector made his way towards his direction.
Minutes before...
"ah detective Mouri what a surprise to see you so soon. Especially after the case we had a couple of days ago. How fortunate for you to be on this case. " The inspector stated with a laugh yet eyes reflect some unease at the coincidence.
"Heh, yeah I suppose so." Mouri grabs a cigarette from his pocket fumbling with lighting it on against the winds.
"Seems like a real coincidence, almost like your luck has brought it upon them. Anyways can you tell us what happened?" The Inspector nods towards the officer next to him verifying to start taking notes.
"Sure, real tragedy this one. Me and Ran happen to missed our ride back and the father of the criminal offered to give us a ride back to Tokyo." A puff of smoke came out of his mouth after the statement.
"How nice." The Inspector remarked dryly. "Are you sure it wasn't to have an alibi or something? He knew you were a detective right?"
"No, the whole lot was surprise when Ran announced it. Hostility and suspicion could have been felt even by me. The kids even looked unease somewhat by the fact."
"Kids? What kids?"
"some foreign kids of the family friends, don't really know much about them. Ran could probably answer more of your questions on them than I could. Though one was a boy with blonde hair another a girl with grayish eyes. I would say that the kids are observant- incredibly so."
"Really?" The inspector raised an eyebrow at the statement "How so?"
"Notice little stuff easily overlooked, heck without some of the stuff they said the case would have taken longer to solve. Let me give you an example. The boy with the rest of the Hatamotos followed the sound of the scream of the butler. When I went to investigate it appeared as a suicide but then he points out that there was blood splattered on the doorframe when it should have been close for the suicide to make sense. The doorframe wasn't what any of us adults thought to look at but I guess the kid being so short saw the blood easier than any of us could have."His eyes glance around looking for the brat yet unable to find him return his focus back to the Inspector.
"That seem impressive but the kid didn't react violently to seeing the body?"
"No, and that's what's disturbing."
"Was anybody hurt?" The inspector question to steer away from the discomforting topic of maybe thinking the boy could have gone into shock.
"Only that kid over there." Mouri jabbed his thumb behind him after finding the boy pointing towards the police car where said boy sat inside leaning his head along the door; his blond hair shifting due to the open window.
"Ichirou-kun manage to grab him I think but Takeshi-san was able to stop him from stabbing him with the knife."
"Hmm." A frown appeared on the inspector face, worried about how it could be traumatizing for a child to not only see three dead bodies, especially when they were not a clean murder, but to add to the fact that he was grabbed by the murderer would make any child cry. Heck some adults would be having a panic attack if they saw a bloody body. His mustache twitch in agitation towards the murderer thinking that the kid was too young to learn about murder, much less to get his innocence robbed from him.
"Takagi-kun."
"Yes Inspector?"
"Go check on the kid. Make sure he is okay. Question him to see if he mentally fine and learn a little bit about why he was here."
"Hai" He shut his book and started to walk towards the police car.
back to present...
He closed his eyes appearing to be tired after a disturbing event of murder, listening to the steps of the officer approach him. A light knock against the metal door forced me to open my eyes in surprise. A kind and almost nervous smile appeared on his face.
"Ah, um, I am going to open the door right now so could you please lean away from it? I don't want you to fall over." I sit up but give him a bleary eyed look. He replied with a soft thanks and introduced himself as Officer Takagi-san, clicking the door open and squatting to most likely use the psychological technique of understanding.
He gazed at me with a curious expression and asked in a tone as if I was a frighten animal if I was upset or sacred by what happend. I replied truthfully to his questions of how I feel and that my name is Conan and I answered his remaining ones. If some came too close for comfort I told half truths. Yet, I could tell I was failing the interrogation in some aspect much to my frustration. 'What is it that I gave away?'
"So, Conan-kun," Takagi-san peers his head down making eye contact with the wide blue eyes. "You're really smart huh?"
Unknown to Conan he straighten up his back and his posture immediately becomes defensive. His face switches to a blank inscrutable expression and lifeless eyes continue to stare into Takagi. 'Damn it I gave away my intelligence,' My thoughts contiuned a cycle of criticism and scorn at my arrogance that the police officer wouldn't be abnormally observant and stupidity on my part.
Takagi blinks at the change somewhat disturb, but continues on nevertheless. "How did you know that Takeshi-kun wasn't the murderer? I heard that you told everybody that he yet proven guilty and you defended him."
"Anyone can tell if they know him."
"Yes, but not even his wife had confidence that he was guilty."
"Well, it was the flower that gave it away."
"The flower?" He open his mouth to speak again but an officer that was walking in our direction called out to him. He excused himself and made his way towards the other where they seem to be having a discussion about me as Takagi kept on looking at my direction.
He then came and told me the other officer was ordered to take me back to the hotel. Luck must have been on my side because I really began to worry how much was I to tell the officer. He waved goodbye as I was driven away from the port.
If only I knew that he stared at circled word of flower that he had written in his notebook as the police department clean up the case.
I apologize for the horribly late update. But as stated on my profile a virus destroyed all of the information I had written for this story which was well over 15,000 words, just gone. Then I came to the realization that the computer and usb were both infected. And retyping what I had and knowing the original was so much better made me depressed to retype it. Anyways I am working on it and promise the next chapter wouldn't be such a filler chapter. even I found typing this chapter boring. hopefully i will be able to retype all of what I have soon. Please review it helps with the speed of the updates.
