Your Prince is in Another Castle: Chapter 6; Kings, Queens, and Castles
He can remember the little child running through the gardens of the mansion. When his parents were busy the Gorilla would watch over him. The small child, full of energy and curiosity, would always search for new things to try. One of the games he enjoyed playing was pretending to be a knight. Though most in the house would refer to him as the little prince of the house, he had always seemed more leaned to be the knight. Because a knight protects the castle and beats any enemies who tried to harm others.
He would run around the garden, using his toys as the beasts, citizens, and fellow knights. And the Gorilla would play along as well. The child would call him his castle. Because he was strong and always came to help Adrien when he appeared to be endanger. Even if only minor. Like helping him down out of the tree when he tried to climb it like a tower or bandage his scraps when he ventured too close to the rose bushes. And, one of his favorites, being carried on the Gorilla's shoulders. Sitting proudly on his large shoulders he declared himself the protector of the house.
The little prince who wanted to become knight.
Now looking down at him, laying in a hospital bed. The Gorilla could only feel dread in the pits of his stomach. He had been watching over Adrien since he came out of the E.R. If not for the woven gauze and bandages over his wounds one might think he was sleeping.
The large bodyguard's had been keeping watch over the young man. Making sure no one tried anything, including any nurses that came through. Just like him they had a job to do. But, his suspicion kept him steeled and sturdy in appearance.
With a click he heard the door open and instantly went into defense mood. Until he saw a familiar figure walk through the door.
"Thought it might help.", Natalie handed the bodyguard's the coffee cup. The Gorilla carefully taking it in his hand and giving a short nod of thanks to his fellow employee. Even with her usually resigned demeanor Maurice could see the assistant was, like him, keeping her emotions concealed behind a veil. After reporting that Adrien was in the hospital no sooner did she and their boss arrive at the hospital. After meeting him in the lobby, blood still fresh on his shirt, Mr. Agreste had called/demanded, to speak to the doctor on the condition of his son. While also demanding to know what had happened to his son?
"The doctors said that the injures, while extensive, aren't life threatening.", after going over the tests and x-rays the doctors had compiled a growing list of injuries, internal and external, to the young model. Evident by the bruising and bleeding noticed when he was first brought in. The Gorilla tensed, unable to find a calm patch to land on. All he could see was Adrien, hurt. Bleeding and bruised. Crying and shivering in his arms.
He had failed to protect him.
The coffee cup didn't stand a chance against the hulking males large grip and the heat of the liquid inside couldn't compare to the heat burning in his chest. The anger boiling and bubbling deep in the pits of his stomach and pumping through his veins with each hard thump of his heart.
He pointed to Adrien. Medically comatose in a hospital bed and bandaged. Where he had been for hours after the Gorilla rushed him there and carried him in his arms. Barely able to let the doctors and nurses take him away. Still feeling the specs of blood on his palms and the images of the young model, the one he promised to protect, bruised and crying.
And he, for all his strength, was helpless to help him.
For hours he waited and waited...
Nervous and despaired for news to come.
"Please have faith in Gabriel."
Gorilla only grumbled. Though he may not like it, having to wait on his employer. It was his only option for now. And so he would swallow the boiling anger in his stomach and still his heart. And stand with firm resilience in front of the door.
No one would get through him.
After days in the hospital Adrien was finally cleared to return home. Though his wounds have been healing normally, it didn't stop his father from taking every precaution to make the transition smooth and comfortable for his son. Hiring extra security to bring him from the hospital and to the manor. Though there were the reporters and fans waiting at the gate. Clamoring to get an interview with the King of Fashion or a picture of his son.
Vultures.
But, even with that they managed to get his son inside without much incident. Once inside the manor the Gorilla had taken Adrien to his room to settle and rest. While downstairs Gabriel and Natalie discussed the next moves in both Adrien's recovery and his Gabriel's vengeance. Which he had been sprouting the second he found out what happened to his son. Blossoming and rooting into his mind. And would spread until all those who had harmed his son would know the full weight and consequence of Gabriel's wrath.
His first action.
Pulling Adrien out of school.
Admittedly in the past he had used the action as a means to keep his son in line. Knowing how much he had cared for the school, but more the students and people there. An action he had time to ponder over and see more of a threat. He had threatened his son. But, now the school was a threat. And the incompetence and ignorance of those attending had gotten his son harmed. No, attacked and nearly killed. And for that they would pay.
Natalie had already had papers drown up and delivered to the school. All he needed to do was sign and Adrien would be done with the pit of snakes. A place even he had once thought might not be so bad.
His second action.
Changing Adrien's schedule. For years his son had been the face of his company. A figure had not only become a beloved symbol of the brand. Not a single person in Paris couldn't recognize the face plastered on billboards, posters, commercials, and various products. Many saw him as perfection personified and innocence incarnate. Yet, for all those that loved him. There were those that only loved to use him. And, as much as he hated to admit it, he had made him that way. He only saw his son as a model at most of times. He put him in ads and shoots his son didn't seem to care for. Without asking his opinion or if he was comfortable. With multiple shoots a week some how he had missed how tired his son would be. Coupled with school and activities it was a wonder his son hadn't passed out from exhaustion. Thoughts that only weighed heavier and heavier upon the designers mind.
Though it might to too late to fix the mistakes of the past, he could do better in the present. And give Adrien something better for the future.
His third action.
Getting in touch with his lawyers, PR team, and crew he began making personal and legal plans. He would get ahead of the media and those who sought to further harm his son. Who could barely help himself, let alone defend himself from the gossip of the masses. Including those fool enough to think the Agrestes were just some random civilian family without the means to bury anyone who even thought they could just throw mud and not expect retaliation.
There would be retribution.
He would make sure of it.
"Forgive me Emile. Adrien.", in his pursuit of fixing his family, he had fractured it further. His ambition to gain the power to bring back what he believed could make them whole. Caused him to lose sight of one of the last things he cherished in this world. Allowing a slithering creature into his home and around one of his last treasured members. And tarnish him to the point he might have lost him worse than losing his wife, "Believe me. I will get revenge for you.", even if Paris, the world, has to burn for it to be done.
Even now he could feel a vast and growing feeling within the city. Negative energies-anger, sadness, guilt, and anguish.
Anyone and all would make an ample akuma and super-villain for him to use. He even considered akumatizing himself again.
There were many options for him to use.
"Mr. Agreste.", Natalie had entered in Gabriel's office.
"How is Adrien?"
"Adrien is in bed in his room. The Gorilla is watching over him.", making sure Adrien was continuously protected.
"That's good.", he trusted the bodyguard to keep a close eye on his son. He hadn't left his side since he took him to the hospital. Standing guard at his room, "What have you heard anything about what happened at the school?
"So far there hasn't been much information on the incident.", surprisingly not much was known about how Adrien was injured. Only that he was taken to the hospital and had been there for over two weeks.
"We already know the who, the when, and the how.", Adrien had, though reluctantly, informed him about what had happened. It was difficult listening to his son having to recall his attack and the ones who had done it. His classmates.
"How do you wish to proceed sir?", Natalie asked.
Gabriel turned and looked out his window. There were still media and fans outside his home. No doubt waiting for him or someone to address the situation with Adrien. The more they waited, the more the issue could lean out of their control.
"I'm going to address them.", the fashion designer and businessman said.
"Are you going to akumatize someone in the crowd?", it was an option that was usually brought up.
"That would be too simple.", and Gabriel didn't like it, "Given the extent my son has suffered, I believe this needs to be handled differently.", he would not allow any of them to get away easily. No, he would make them suffer as his son did.
"Of course sir.", Natalie nodded in support, "I will assist you every step of the way.", not just for him, but Adrien as well.
"Thank you Natalie.", he could always count on her.
After ten minutes preparing, Gabriel Agreste walked outside of his mansion where the crowd was still waiting outside the gates. And with eyes and camera's pointed at him the fashion designer began to speak.
"A couple of weeks ago my son was admitted to the hospital. This admission was due to an incident that happened at Dupont Francis College. Because of this incident my son was seriously injured and was taken to the ER for emergency treatment.", the crowd was stunned in shock and worry, "Though he has been able to come home he is still healing and has been instructed to remain at home for his recovery."
"Do you know what happened at the school? Was an accident?", one of the reporters asked.
"This was no accident.", he dismissed, "What happened to my son was a malicious attack. My son was ambushed and beaten by individuals at the school.", again the crowd gasped in horror. Adrien, model and prince of Paris, had been attacked. This new revelation stirred the crowd up, as reporters continued to question the designer was answers.
"While I cannot say much, know that for the moment Adrien is safe.", he was awake and recovering, "As to the situation with the school we are still looking into incident and will be heavily looking for those who had committed this unwarranted and violent act against my son."
"Until then the Agreste Family asks for privacy while they handle this tragic situation in peace.", Natalie added, "Thank you and that is all.", as the two turned to re-enter the house they can still hear the sounds of the crowd, the questions of the reporters, and the shutter of camera's.
The fuse had been lit and now it was a matter of who was holding it when it went off.
He was nervous.
It had been weeks since the incident at Adrien's old school. The media coverage was still going strong. Mostly due to the efforts of not only Mr. Agreste who had made a formal speech after Adrien had been brought safely home. But, also the actions of Adrien's thousands of fans who, upon hearing about Adrien's injuries, had quickly mounted up and took up to show their support. Especially over the webs were dozens upon dozens of letters, articles, posts, and even videos had been made. Gifts of flowers, plushies, cards, and balloons had been set outside the Agreste Mansion.
He had learned that Adrien had been pulled from his school. Which sounded perfect to the Gorilla. Who had been quelling the urge to go down there himself and cause his own kind of ruckus. But, Adrien being home was enough and he had one last thing to worry about. He could rest and recover.
As the days past Adrien slowly found his strength. Having to take things slow he progressed at his own past. No one pressed him or pushed him. Only to try when he felt he could. Though he was mostly confined to his room in order to heal his more serious injuries. He came out from time to time. Whether to go into the gardens to sit by his mom statue and into the dining room where he and his father shared a meal.
Mr. Agreste had become a bit more active with his soon. Making time to just sit and talk with him. Though it was awkward at first slowly, but surely they began to make it work. And even without words Adrien seemed just happy to be spending time with his father.
And now, today, the Gorilla was anxious.
It was Adrien's first day of school. A different school in the city of Paris. College Voltaire. Recommended by the Superintendent who had visited the house, if Adrien wished to continue his studies in public. Of course Gabriel was reluctant to send Adrien to another school. Especially while he was still healing. He had offered it to his son. Who, even after what he had been through, his curiosity had peaked out about attending school again.
And waiting outside for the school bell to ring the Gorilla felt like he was on pins and needles. Was Adrien going to be okay? Would he be able to get around? Surely they would provide him with assistance given his injuries. What if the other students teased him or he got anxious from being crowded?
As hundreds of questions ran through his mind he had no time to consider the answers when the bell sounded. Signaling the end of the school day. Regaining his posture he watched the front door as it opened and the students spilled out. He had yet to see Adrien after five minutes of waiting. Keeping his eyes focused for the golden haired blond.
As he continued to wait his instincts were building up and felt the need to go searching for him. To rush in and get him to the care and back home.
But, as he went to head to the school his eyes captured something.
Blond hair, green eyes, and a familiar green shirt he had worn to school.
'Adrien?'
He saw the boy come out of the front doors. And he wasn't alone.
It looked like a few individuals, students he assumed, were with him.
What were they doing? Were they his classmates or just students? Were they crowding him?
He didn't look anxious or nervous-he looked...happy?
He was smiling. Actually smiling. And even laughing?
The Gorilla had to make sure he was seeing things correctly. There was Adrien walking down the steps. With him were a couple of individuals. A boy with light tan hair with blond highlights and a bow tie. He looked to be showing Adrien something on his phone. His energy hitting the bodyguard from where he stood. There was another boy, with glasses and short black hair. And the last one was a young man with short dark brown hair and light brown eyes. By the looks of it they seemed like a small group friends with how natural they looked to interact with each other.
After waving goodbye, Adrien started heading toward the car. The Gorilla meeting him.
"Sorry to keep you waiting.", he apologized, "We're you waiting to long?"
The Gorilla shook his head and Adrien seemed to relieved.
As they entered the car Adrien told him about his first day at school. How, even though he was nervous, he was able to make it through. And was even able to meet some people. Of course there were those who had talked about him. Whispers and looks from individuals who knew about his situation. It made him anxious and considering leaving. Before lunch he had excused himself to the bathroom and was prepared to hide out in the stalls. He went back and forth to his phone to call the house to have someone come and pick him up.
He was scared. His wounds throbbed and he feared he would lash out like a cornered cat if someone got too close.
The Gorilla clenched the steering wheel. Heart aching hearing of Adrien's lingering trauma just to go back to school and just be around people in general. If he had called the Gorilla would have burst though the doors and carried him away without hesitation.
"I didn't think I make it through.", and considered just leaving, "But, I didn't.", if he had left he would feel just as bad. So he took deep breathes and headed back to class. And throughout day, he was able to meet people. Fellow students, who even knowing who he was, was more focused on him than well 'him'. They wanted to know Adrien the new kid and not the model or injured attack victim. With each making an effort to offer help and get him through the day.
Which led him to meet a number of different people. If only by introduction from a third-party.
And in the end he actually liked being there.
The Gorilla exhaled and relief. Just hearing how Adrien was able to make through his first day and possibly make new friends lit a warmth in his heart. Though it was still a long road. He looked to be going down the right one.
As the days past and Adrien continued to go to College Voltaire, he found the boy becoming more like himself. Though still reserved at times, he was starting to reach out. Talking more about school, especially the new friends he had made. With a few key individuals that stood out more than the others. But, friends all the same.
He had returned back to social media to connect with them while he was at home. He had changed his accounts, having to delete the old one's when certain accounts kept trying to connect with him. Both online and over his phones. The count becoming desperate to speak to the young man, who had only ignored the accounts. Yet admitting he felt guilty and considering actually replying to them. A sign of his self-victimizing nature having sprouted up. At times blaming himself for the position he was in. Being found hold up under his covers of his bed, hiding in his closet, and even being found in his bathtub asleep.
Therapy was helping him through his mental trauma and the physical therapy allowed him more mobility. His bruises had healed and the swelling of his eye had gone down. There were still moments when Adrien would drift into his mind. Whether back to the moment of the attack or a place no one knew. Where he would stop and crouch down. Taking shallow breathes and tearfully lose himself in the memories. He found more and more anchors to keep him from drifting too far out and pull he back to solid ground.
The Gorilla was at his post for the day. Natalie was in a meeting with Mr. Agreste in his office. Adrien was upstairs practicing his piano. Even with a splint Adrien could create a soft and calming tune. While he was no longer taking classes, he played of his want. And he of course did his duty of guarding the front door. For the most part things were beginning to level out. Adrien case had been picking up more in the media. Everyday there were updates coming in with people following the case against 'her'. With the new evidence making things a sure shot that Adrien would be vindicated. Especially with all the support from a number of communities that believed in the young man.
Though the akuma attacks had returned, it was a norm for the city. But, did not take away from the biggest story circulating on people's mind.
'Buzz! Buzz!'
The door bell had been rung. Activating the monitor to check who it was. He expected either a reporter or fan looking for Adrien. What he got was something that made his blood run cold.
Taking a deep, calming breathe the Gorilla composed himself to his stoic presence. Opening the door he stood before the uninvited individuals who had dared come up to the manor.
Adrien's former classmates and friends.
While he knew a few heads were missing, it didn't take away from the growing anger in the pits of his stomach. And looking down on them he could tell they were not only nervous, but anxious. Which for him for just fine. He wished them all nothing but discomfort.
"Hey there dude.", the capped one, Nino, finally spoke. His tone was nervous, "H-How have you been?"
The Gorilla only grunted.
"S-Sorry to just drop in.", he cleared his throat, "I...we...don't suppose Adrien is home."
Just hearing him, any of them, say Adrien's name, as though he had the right, made the Gorilla see red. Even having the nerve to come up to house or show their faces was enough to get his blood boiling mad. Did they forget that they were the reason he was at home most of the time. If not for the fact he could face charges for hitting a child he would have tossed them all off the property in a heartbeat he moment they rang the doorbell.
They never once visited Adrien in the hospital or came forward after the attack. They hurt him. They betrayed him. They backstabbed him and left him. And they've come crawling back and seeking the one they harmed. And of course they come in a group. Unable to face bigger danger alone.
The Gorilla continued to looked down on the trespassers to the manor with a fixed cold glare. As they continued to asked to be let inside and were continuously refused by the large guard. Even in silence his energy spoke volumes. And his energy told them to go away and never return. He had no interest in their pleas and request to speak to Adrien. Nor did he care for the small items, gifts, they had brought with them.
Flowers, cards. stuffed animals, and a few wrapped gifts.
Did they think Adrien was just in bed with a cold? Were they that delusional?
But, even with his constant refusal and instructions for them to leave. Another had come to step in. From the doors Natalie had appeared. Sharply dressed and emotionally hidden as ever. She looked at the group with unhidden contempt.
"Mr. Agreste has instructed that his son is not to have contact to with unapproved guests. Including those unwelcome in his home, let alone around his son.", Natalie did not mince word.
"But dud...I mean mam.", he corrected himself, "We just wanted to talk to him for a few minutes."
"That will not happen.", Natalie had stepped in front of the Gorilla and stared at the individuals, "The last time 'you' were around Adrien he ended up in the hospital.", she reminded with unhidden ice in her tone. Seeing the group flinch back in fear, "Also I believe Adrien does not wish to see any of you.", again the group flinched hearing the ice in the woman's voice, "You do not deserve to see him. Nor speak to him. Or even know how he is doing."
"You are banned from setting foot on this property.", she narrowed her eyes with unhidden venom, "If you try to contact Adrien either inside or outside of this home we will take steps to have you and anyone else handled by the proper authorities.", with a turn she headed back inside.
The Gorilla snorted before slamming the door the groups faces.
Though he would no admit it, he wished he was the one to tell them. But, was satisfied by their silence.
It wouldn't be the last time they would try to come by and speak to Adrien. Through multiple attempts to reach him by phone and social media were fruitless. And coming up to the mansion they were sent away. He almost commented their persistence if it wasn't so frustrating having to repeat that they weren't welcome. A few times they were even chased off by members of Adrien's fan club who recognized the group and made sure to drive them away from the manor. Like guard dogs, but more vicious. Which, as long as it didn't end up in a fight, relieved him for the extra security.
In his lair Gabriel stands among the hundreds of white butterflies flying around him. It had been over a month since Hawkmoth had akumatized anyone and the time was perfect to create a new batch of akuma's. The growing outrage over Adrien's attack had been peeking and with the release of a certain video and various comments on a certain blog he was certain there were many, many targets for him to chose from.
And he couldn't be more than willing to let them all lose on those guilty individuals.
"Are you fully charge Nooroo?"
"Yes Master.", the butterfly kwami nodded. Though he detested being used for the sake of evil, knowing what was happening with his holders son. He could not ignore the injustice of what he could sense was a kind soul.
"Nooroo, Dark Wings Rise!", he transformed into Hawkmoth. Sensing the negative emotions rampant in the city. No matter what it took or how many butterflies he had to send out, he would make them suffer the day they came to the city and crossed him.
Gabriel Agreste had made sure the sympathies of the individuals, those little sheep, were little to no existent. They should no better not to cross a man, especially by harming his son. Especially the lying minx who thought she could take advantage of his son. That her silver tongue couldn't be cut out and fed to the rats. That she could hide and not face his wrath!
If she thought being arrested in front of all her peers and Adrien's supporters had ruined her reputation. Or losing her lackluster modeling position had left a untreatable scar on her.
She would learn. They would all learn.
