Parappa sat in a room he assumed to be the living room, It belonged to a man he only met a few minutes prior.
The rapping dog was having a great day up until, He learned how to drive, Bake a cake, Heck! He even got to go on a date with the girl of his dreams!
But shortly after that date things went horribly wrong, The world around him glitched and melted into static and binary numbers.
And the worst part was that only he seemed concerned about it! Everyone else stood in place like they were characters in a busted game.
The world went dark as the sky begun to crumble, That's when Parappa ended up in a super dusty place where he heard coughing before involuntary joining in.
Once the dust cleared, The dog was startled to find himself surrounded by people he didn't recognize in the slightest.
A girl in a red dress with long brown hair.
A boy with blue hair, Probably his height.
Another guy, That looked like he was straight out of one of those anime games that Katy liked so much.
Last of all was a tall and imposing, Purple skinned demon of a man, Red shining dots was the only things to be seen in the dark voids of his eyes.
Parappa still had no clue how ended up there, The living room he was at, At the moment probably belonged to the man, It was an educated theory based on the photos of him and who the pup assumed to be his wife.
He could hear the others talking in the other room.
"Oh god.. We messed up.."
"If you three would have waited, We'd be able to make sure this shit didn't happen."
"Can't- Can't we just throw him back in his game?"
"WE ARE NOT DOING THAT, I DID NOT LIVE THOUGH THAT HELL JUST TO LET SOMEONE ELSE SUFFER IT!"
"Wow holy fuck, Kid's got some anger, I couldn't even if i wanted to, That mutt interfered and drained my power, Unintentional or not, He's stuck here and he's your problem now."
Parappa had to get out of here, He didn't understand what was going on but he needed to be as far as possible from them, As the rapper did not know their true intentions, He just has to believe! And everything will end up fine! The dog got up from the chair he sat in.
The pup then slowly made his way to the front door, Each step felt wrong and made him feel more and more on edge, This was usually the part where the hero tries to escape and gets caught last second.
His paw hovered over the door knob, He suddenly felt some sort of urge, Like something in the back of his throat threatening to escape like he was trying to.
Parappa could feel it building up but he had to get out of there, That's when it came to a boiling point, His eyes shut tightly and he started loudly barking, Thankfully it stopped shortly
Before he could dwell on what had just happened, He heard loud footsteps rushing to the living room, The fear caused him to throw the door open and run out of there as fast as he could, Parappa could hear yells from the house but he kept running in the dead of night.
The dog couldn't help but wonder what they meant about "putting him back in his game."
As soon as he felt the need to stop running he looked around, And was baffled again, Kids were walking the streets in costumes, There were carved and candle lit pumpkins decorating the curbs and shop windows, Some kids were holding buckets inspired by them.
Parappa wanted to stay and figure out what was going on here but he needed to find somewhere to rest for the night, First of all he needed to get away from where ever this place was.
He saw a building with a bus on it, A bus stop! Great timing! Thing's are lookin up for sure!
The pup walked in, The place was empty... Except for a tall woman, One that looked weirdly familiar, He knew one thing for sure off the bat, Her boots were taller than he was.
Her skin was purple and she seemed like she wasn't paying attention to anything but her cell phone, And the woman on the other end of the call.
Then Parappa remembered.
She was the demon man's partner, The one from all those pictures, He couldn't help but let out a yelp.
The woman instantly stopped and look to his direction, Her piercing red eyes felt like they peered into his very being, Like She could tell exactly what he was afraid of, The woman attempted to approach him, He guessed that he threw that plan out the window by the fact that he started barking again, As soon as it stopped he covered his mouth.
Her eyes dulled, No longer being such a offensive red. "Kid.. Are you lost?" Her sounded soft and caring.
"N-No ma-'am."
The pup backed away, Something about her and her man scared Parappa to his core, Maybe it was their dark sockets, Being illuminated by flashing red lights, Similar to some sort of warning, Or it was their tall statures, They could easily crush him if they wanted.
His eyes wandered for an escape, The bus! "I-I just gotta catch a bus home d-don't worry!"
The woman reached into the pocket of her coat, Was she pulling out a knife? A gun? What could she be plotting?
She pulled out money and crouched down to his level. "I may not know the full story but... Dear if you're trying to find safety.. I won't get in your way." The woman said with a saddened tone.
Parappa reluctantly took the money, Thanking her and turning to board the bus, He hopped on, Giving the driver what he owed for a ticket, The rest of the bus was empty, The driver coughed alot during the ride.
The dog asked if he was okay but the teal haired man shrugged him off, Simply saying. "Don't worry bout me lil man."
Truth be told, The rapper didn't know where he'd go, So when the bus stopped at it's first stop that's when Parappa decided to hop off, It was about, An hour or two away from the city, The dog thought, He wasn't paying much attention to the time because of the drivers nasty cough.
He heard the decrease in sound as the bus took it's leave, Leaving the pup on his own once more, That was fine, Parappa knew he wouldn't have much trouble finding a place to sleep, He could sleep in a tree or a bush, Like camping!
This town he was in.. It was dark, The streets were dull, A far cry from what he was used to, No colorful cars, The grass was a lifeless green, Parappa wanted to go home, He wanted his friends, His family... Heck, The pup wouldn't be upset if Joe chin showed up because atleast that would be someone he was familiar with.
His ears picked up a cry, He turned his head in that direction and saw three figures, One tall, One short and one being in between, Parappa approached to see what was going on, It looked like they were bullying two kids in costumes, One dressed as a skeleton, The other in a suit with a pumpkin head.
The three figures looked to be teenagers, Teens that were around his age but possibly younger, The shortest one definitely being so.
"Roy give us our candy back! It's not our fault you didn't go trick or treating yourself!" The skeleton kid said, Causing the short one, Who was holding one of those pumpkin baskets, To laugh.
"Finders keepers losers!" The short one spat, Judging by the way that the other two teens stood behind him, He seemed to be the leader.
Parappa wasn't having it, He marched up to them from behind and shouted. "Hey! Leave them alone or i'll make you!"
The three turned around, Looking at him, They then started laughing hysterically.
He didn't know how to feel besides crushed, He let out a whimper.
"This dog boy thought he'd stop us? What a dumb ass loser!" The short one said, He handed the bucket to one of the other two and rolled up his sleeves, He approached Parappa. "I'm going to enjoy this."
The pup saw him raise his hand and retaliated, Punch, That's what he did, He punched his almost attacker in the face, Sending him falling to the ground.
Parappa pulled his fist back and stared in shock of what he had done, He felt bad but still upset at them for being mean to such small children.
He could see the start backing away, Before turning and running once eye contact was broke, The pup felt a small itch to chase them down but he suppressed it.
Parappa looked down at the one he knocked down, The kid was out cold but still breathing fine, Stepping over him, He picked up the bucket of candy and crouched down beside the two kids, Extending the stolen item to them. "Here you go!"
The pumpkin kid took it while the skeleton one stared at him with amazement, "A real werewolf!" The kid turned to the other. "Pump we were saved by a werewolf on the spooky day!"
Before Parappa knew it, He was getting dragged back to the kids house so the kid could show his mom.
He did learn a few things from this exchange though! The kid's names were Skid and Pump, And they loved the spooky day and the spooky month, Whatever that meant, Despite how confused he was, The pup could tell that they were sweet kids.
They eventually stopped, In front of a white house, Skid wasted no time in dragging the dog up the porch stairs, Those steps felt especially wrong to him, He'd have to find out was was wrong with his legs later.
Thankfully the kid let go and ran off, Yelling. "Mom! Mom!"
He returned a few minutes later, Dragging a purple haired woman similarly to how he was dragged, He already knew she was his mother due to the context and their resemblance.
She looked down at Parappa and smiled. "Ah so you're this 'Werewolf' I've heard so much about, Why don't you join us for dinner?"
Parappa accepted her offer, They were eating pork chops and honestly, The pup couldn't think of a better meal for tonight.
The kids were off in the living room, Sorting through the candy they had, That's when the woman pulled out a chair and sat down across from him at the table.
"Dinner will be ready soon, I think we should introduce ourselves! I'm Lila, You?" She asked with enthusiastic, Yet soft voice.
The pup opened his mouth but was cut off by Skid yelling from the living room. "That's Parp- Pra- P-P... Pappy Rappy!" His mother laughed and so did Parappa before whispering his actual name to her as not to kill the kid's enthusiasm.
"So, How'd you get here?" She questioned, Not in a interrogation sense, More so to make small talk.
"O-Oh w-well i..." Should he really tell her about how he escaped from a demon man and that group that probably didn't even have bad intentions from how nice his wife was, But he was scared and they didn't explain anything to him!
She must have noticed his silence as her expression dulled a bit. "You don't have to tell me honey, If you need a place to rest for the night or two, You are gladly welcome here."
Parappa was baffled, He shook his head and replied. "I ca-an't- don't deserve that!"
Lila smiled in response. "Nonsense! You defended my son and his friend from some awful teenagers, You do deserve to have somewhere safe to rest your head atleast..."
He sighed, Knowing that she wouldn't let him go to find somewhere else to sleep outside.
The pup tilted his head. "So.. Where would i be staying then?"
"The attic! Don't worry we just cleaned! Had a... Erm.. Rat problem!" There was something that made him internally question if what she just said was true, None the less he shouldn't be complaining since she just gave him a place to stay.
Dinner itself went well, They all chatted more about different topics, Lila broke the news to Skid about Parappa staying there for a bit, In which the kid was ecstatic, Not long after dinner, The kids fell asleep watching tv, Lila took them to bed but also showed Parappa where the attic and bathroom were and to call her if he needed anything.
He was good at the moment, He was getting ready to brush his teeth when his reflection caused him to freeze, He didn't look how he did, His ears were longer than before, Going down past his shoulders, The dog also remember his legs, Parappa pulled the bathroom door closed and walked over to the toilet, He put his leg up on the closed lid and pulled up his pant leg.
The lower part of his leg was messed up looking, Bent up like an actual animal's, It freaked him out and quiet whimpers erupted from him, He went to check his other leg but made another discovery.
He had a tail too now, It was black like his ears but the end had white fur, He honestly was confused why he didn't have one before, As Katy had one, In school he learned how biology dictated how someone's body blueprint would be, Or atleast that's how he remembered it being.
The new limb didn't bother him, It's his legs that did, He could walk on them easily but it scared him, No wonder he didn't feel right earlier.
He felt another urge like before come on, He knew what would happen so he looked around in the bathroom closet, Grabbing a towel, Parappa used it to muffle the sounds of his uncontrollable barking, Once it was over he stayed there for a bit, Wanting to calm his nerves so it won't happen again, He was still scared of the possibility so he brought the towel to his makeshift bed in the attic just in case.
Thankfully as soon as he laid down and got comfortable, He was out like a light.
The next couple days were pretty good, It was mostly him and the kids going around town, Showing Parappa where everything was and, The town looked very less scary during the day.
As soon as they spotted the candy store, There was no hesitation to take him there too, The kids zoomed up to the candy counter and he saw Skid motion the number three at the employee, In which the man went pale and terrified instantly.
Parappa himself walked in shortly after that, Concerned for Skid and Pump.
"Pappy rappy!" The skeleton kid called out behind him.
To his surprise the man let out the biggest sigh he's ever seen or heard, As well as muttering a "Thank god..."
The next day he was awoken by Lila who gave him a bag from a store, He tried to insist that she didn't need to get him anything but was shot down easily.
In the bag was a few outfits. "I just thought ahead because winter will be here soon and i don't want you freezing, Even if you're wearing a costume all the time.." She was joking.. Right?
"Huh!?" He reacted.
She had a soft and accepting expression. "Don't be ashamed, You can present yourself however you feel is right, If you see yourself as a dog then be how you want to!" While he was glad that Lila was accepting, She clearly misunderstood.
None the less he thanked her and offered to go check the mall, Where he spotted a letter that was addressed to. "dog boy." And the back said it was written crudely in red ink saying.
"From the hatzgang."
