Standing By
Lady Countryrose
Ch. 1
Hermione Granger had seen many things in her eighteen years of life. Since eleven, there have been things that she would never dream up. Going to a magic school, meeting Harry Potter, facing Lord Voldemort every year and so on. It was enough to cause gray hairs on one's head. But finding herself in a new world and a magical guild hall. It was enough for her to want to scream.
She found herself on the floor, after a couple spells hit her. Back when she was facing a war with the Death Eaters, back at Hogwarts.
While lying on the floor. She noticed two men fighting magic from their hands. One of uncontrolled fire, while the other had wisps of green and purple mists. One with fire, made her think of Ron trying to control fiendfyre. While the other made her think of a human snake, more handsome than Tom Riddle was, while being a student in Hogwarts.
With a huff, Hermione managed to sit up. Before a knockout blonde came and helped her up. "Hey, my name is Lucy? What brings you to Fairy Tail?"
"Hermione," she supplied before being led to a barstool. Rubbing the back of her head. "I don't remember how I got here."
Lucy tapped her finger on her chin, in thought. "Well, you kind of just fell out of the ceiling."
"That's not logical," stated Hermione in confusion. Looking up, only to see a faint magical outline of something. Before it faded into nothing. Letting her know, there was no going back.
"Where are you from," Lucy asked, while flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"Not this world," Hermione grumbled.
Just as the maroon-haired man, managed to knock the pink-haired off of his feet. "Take that, you hot breathe physio!"
Hermione shook her head, closing her eyes. Trying to count her sanity. "What's going on?"
Lucy huffed, "Cobra," she pointed to the winning man. "...hitting Natsu," the one on the floor. "They are dragon slayers, two out of five that we have here. The males seemed to like to show their dormancy daily."
Hermione tilting her head in thought. "Fighting to be the alpha of the group?"
"That would make sense," stated Lucy in thought. She glanced over to the pink-haired man with a glare. "He likes to fight any man, no matter if they're dragon slayer or not."
"What is a dragon slayer?"
Lucy turned to her with a surprise look. "You really aren't from around here. A dragon slayer is someone who can kill dragons. By using elemental magic that a dragon had taught them."
"Huh?"
It was when Lucy explained that there was a dragon war. Not just dragons against dragons. But also against humans. Before Lucy pulled her downstairs to the library. Where she read for herself.
'Glad I took ancient Runes back at school.' Seeing that the book was depicted in runes.
"You can read that," asked Lucy.
Hermione glanced up, "Yes, I can. Can't you?"
"Not much, it is a forgotten language around here. But I know it's about the dragon wars."
Hermione had read a few. "It is, but it isn't. Mainly it's about a competition against other dragons, only to be titled as dragon king…"
Lucy looked at Hermione with fear. "Is there another way to be called that?"
Hermione turned the page. "If a dragon is fully mated with a hatchling from said mating. A healthy hatchling can only result from a good, strong mated pair. Declaring that dragon a king or queen."
Lucy nodded, "That makes sense. Natsu had said that Igneel was a dragon king."
"Igneel," asked Hermione. Before turning the book's pages and then stopped in the middle. "Igneel, king of fire dragons. The first of few, teaching humans the lost magical elemental art. With this art, those that survive the transformation of power and life of a dragon. Will kill those with the same or lesser value of a dragon."
Lucy glanced down at the book with sorrow. "Anything about choosing mates?"
Hermione gave a thoughtful look. Before going over the whole book. Only to shake her head. "Sorry, there isn't."
Lucy took the book back. Before placing, it back on the shelf. With a huff, she looked at Hermione with a thoughtful look. "You should meet the master of the guild. Then you're going to need a place to live. You can stay with me. I just moved into a small two-bedroom cottage…"
Hermione Granger could only give a small smile. Before Lucy grabbed her hand, then dragged her up to the second floor. To the door labeled Master's Office, before being dragged through. There sitting behind the desk was a small man, who Hermione could feel great power coming off of him.
"Lucy, my child, how can I help you?"
"This is Hermione, she wants to join Fairy Tail."
It was from that moment, Hermione became anchored to a new world. A world of Earthland, by being part of Fairy Tail and its mages.
