Driving Lessons

Bib:

When Kitty fails her driving test once again, she turns to the raging Cajun for help.

Story:

Kitty growled at the letter she was reading in her hands while she entered the kitchen.

"I don't believe this! I, like, totally wiped out again!" Kitty stressed.

In the kitchen were Rogue, Scott, Jean and Logan. They all looked at Kitty as she came in, but they knew what this was about.

"Hit the cone. I, like, so totally did not! It was standing by the end!" Kitty said.

All four X-Men who were already in the kitchen kept their heads down as they knew from previous experience what was about to happen next.

"Ya do realise that, even if the cones are standin', ya still ain't supposed ta touch em, right?" Rogue asked.

"Yes, I know that!" Kitty snapped at Rogue.

"Bonjour," Remy said as he entered the kitchen.

He'd heard Kitty complaining from the other side of the mansion when he was coming to the kitchen. He wasn't too sure what he was walking into.

"What I miss?" he asked, moving past Kitty to grab a cup of coffee.

"Oh, not much. Just me failing my driving test once again," Kitty said, looking defeated by the end of her tantum.

Then, a light bulb seemed to go off a top of her head.

"I guess I need more lessons. Hey Remy, will you teach me?" Kitty asked.

Remy caught the snickering of Scott and noticed how everyone's lips had seemed to curve upwards. He tried looking towards Rogue more for help, but she was refusing to meet his eyes.

"Y' mean for drivin'?" Remy asked.

"Yeah! Everyone else has tried helping me learn and I've failed using their methods. Maybe I just need a new teacher," Kitty said.

Rogue near choked on her own coffee at Kitty's words.

"Sure, blame the many many teachers ya've had. Dun't say anythin' 'bout the student who's gone through all those teachers an' still can't pass," Rogue said, saying what the other X-Men who had tried teaching Kitty how to drive were thinking.

"Oh shut up Rogue!" Kitty snapped.

Rogue held her hands up as she stood up, moving to place her cup in the sink.

"Just sayin'. Maybe ya just aren't meant ta drive," she said.

"I don't know chérie. I be a pretty good teacher. Maybe I can give you a few lessons on how t' drive," Remy said, his smirk growing.

Rogue snorted in her throat at that and said: "Ah already have mah license, thanks. An' it's actually legit."

"You sure y' don't wanna tag along? Might learn somet'ing y' law abidin' tutors never taught y'," Remy said.

"Ah'll pass. 'sides, ah already got some place ah need ta be," Rogue said.

Remy noticed Jean emptying the remainder of her coffee out in the sink too and following behind Rogue as she went to leave the kitchen.

"Good luck with the lessons. Y' gonna need it," Rogue said before disappearing from out of sight.

"So, you'll do it?" Kitty asked, returning her attention to Remy.

Remy thought for a moment, then shrugged his shoulders.

"Sure. Why not," he said.

Kitty literally jumped for joy, clapping her hands as she squealed.

"Alright, then I'll go get the car started," she said before taking off to the garage.

After Kitty left, the silent chuckling Logan and Scott were holding back became more vocal.

"You do know what you just got yourself involved in, right?" Scott asked.

"Well, if I can teach her to cook when no one else could, I like my chances," Remy said, going to leave the kitchen himself.

"We'll make sure we have a gravestone ready for you Cajun," Logan called after him.

When Kitty and Remy finally pulled back up into the mansion, Remy's stomach was still uneasy.

"That was, like, the best lesson I've ever had. Thanks Remy," Kitty said.

"Don't mention it," Remy said, opening his car door and getting out on uneasy feet.

He'd survived and now understood Logan's comment about the tombstone. But still, he'd done it. He'd got her to learn the basics. She was still quite far off being a master getaway driver.

Kitty, noticing Remy get out the car, got out too and quickly came around to his side. As Remy tried to walk forwards she stepped in front of him.

"Thanks again for teaching me how to drive. I, like, totally appreciate it," Kitty said.

"Non probleme, chatte," Remy said, moving to sidestep her, but Kitty stepped right back in his path.

"You know, going for a drive with you, it was really fun. Don't you think?" Kitty said, her head slightly down and her cheeks a flame with pink. "Maybe we can do it again sometime. Not, like, a driving lesson, but just go for a drive. Me and you. I could show you some nice places in Bayville," Kitty said.

Remy tilted his head to the side as he recognised the signs.

"Sorry petite, but I prefer takin' ma moto out for a spin when I want chilled time," Remy said.

"Oh, well," Kitty said, glancing over at Remy's motor bike that was parked up in a little bit of terror. "It looks like it can hold two." Kitty gulped.

Remy felt his teeth grinding together in his jaw with Kitty pushing things. As the garage seemed to shake a little, it became his saving grace.

"What is dat?" he asked, already aware of what it was.

"Oh, that'll just be the jet," Kitty said.

"Someone went out?" he asked.

"Yeah, I think the Professor took Jean and Rogue out somewhere to go talk to a mutant or something," Kitty said.

"Well, best be welcomin' them back, non?" Remy said, slipping past Kitty quickly and taking off.

Kitty's mouth hung open as she remained where she was. Slowly, she turned to watch Remy take off. She frowned deeply as she realise what she had done, or more, who's name she had mentioned.

As Remy was heading towards the hanger, he stopped when he overheard Jean and Rogue's voices.

"Hey Jean, will ya do meh a favour," Rogue said, catching up to Jean in the corridor.

"Will ya give this ta Amara for meh. I think she left it in the jet or somethin'," Rogue explained.

Remy tried to see what Rogue handed over to Jean. It looked to be something small and square.

"Errr, ok. But why can't you give it-" Jean began to ask.

"Logan asked meh ta do somethin' for em after this trip. Ah actually wanna chill at some point today, so if ya don't mind, just give it ta her please," Rogue said before taking off in the opposite direction from Jean.

Remy moved back, hiding further in the shadows as Rogue walked past him, not knowing he was there. After he watched Rogue leave, he decided to follow Jean on her path to Amara's room. He watched Jean knock on Amara's door and Amara answer.

"Hey Amara. Rogue said you might have lost this so I'm just returning it," Jean said, handing the square item over.

"Lost what?" Amara asked, taking the item and glancing at it.

Remy watched from the shadows as Amara's eyes near bulged out of her head.

"Oh my god. This is music from Nova Roma. I can't believe it," Amara exclaimed.

"Your home? Aren't they not big on technology there?" Jean asked, looking quite puzzled.

"No. Not really. CDs are only a recent thing so..." Amara said, trailing off. "This isn't mine," Amara said.

"What do you mean?" Jean questioned.

"I mean, I don't actually own this CD. And if I don't own a CD like this, no one in the mansion will. So where did Rogue find it?" Amara asked.

Jean seemed to be the quickest person when it came to adding things up.

"Well, we did just visit an island which is near Nova Roma and Rogue did disappear for a time," Jean said.

"So Rogue got me this CD? Why didn't she just give it to me herself?" Amara asked, seeming just as puzzled as Jean at Rogue's actions.

Jean sighed.

"You know what she's like," Jean said.

"You mean, closed off?" Amara asked.

"Yeah. I guess, in some weird way of hers, this was her trying to be nice to you without getting too attached," Jean said.

"She really does have a screw loose at times," Amara said.

"Hey, come on. She's just been nice," Jean said, folding her arms and giving Amara a disappointed look.

Amara held her hands up.

"Ok, OK, not cool. Should I thank her for this?" Amara asked.

"I don't think so," Jean said, shaking her head. "If she was after praise then she would have just given it to you herself. My advice, just enjoy it. See ya Amara," Jean said, waving as she took off to her room.

When Amara closed her door, Remy stepped out of the shadows. He shuck his head, once again having caught Rogue doing something, secretly, nice. At least, this time, other people besides himself knew about it. Placing his hands in his pockets, Remy began to walk away, deciding to cheek out the library for Rogue as he doubted she was actually doing a job for Logan.
