A Lazy Day
Bib:
After a session with the Professor, Rogue just wants to relax.
Story:
It was Saturday morning when Rogue had her session with the Professor. It lasted a few hours and she left feeling light headed and sleepy. In a good way though. Whatever the Professor had done in that session with her, it had made her feel worry free. But still, she didn't want to jinx it. She didn't even need to ask the Professor to send an announcement out to leave her alone since he did it for her which was nice.
Still in her PJs, Rogue made her way to the wreck room, finding it empty. She moved to crash out on the double seater sofa and grab the remote control. She began flicking through the channels until she found something she wanted to watch, enjoying that no one was around. She didn't have her guard up today. No make-up or anything and she was rather relieved to have it down. She just didn't want anything to come from having it down though.
"Y' lookin' mighty peaceful, chérie," Remy said as he leaned over the back of the sofa, glancing down at her. With his kinetic walls up in his mind, he was one of the few who hadn't heard the Professor's announcement.
For once, Rogue didn't jump when she didn't hear him coming. She just expected him to find her. She knew he had no jobs planned and, well, that he always just seemed to seek her out and keep her company. As she smiled gently up at him, she couldn't help but feel happy.
"That's 'cause ah'm enjoyin' the silence. If ya keep quiet, ya can join meh," Rogue offered, knowing he'd join her even without her permission. She could explain to him about her session with the Professor, but that felt bothersome and, for once, it felt nice to invite him to relax with her. These rare moments of complete bliss, she usually spent alone and, although it was good to spend them alone so she never had to worry about any repercussions when she turned back to her battle paint, it did become, well, lonely not to be able to enjoy her bliss with anyone.
Remy seemed a little bit surprised by Rogue's invitation. His eyebrow had rinse slightly as he glanced down at her, noticing no make-up and how relaxed her muscles were. Something felt off with her, but he wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
He made his way around the sofa, expecting Rogue to move like she normally did. What he wasn't expecting was, when he sat down, her to move back over towards him to lean against him. Her head even rested on his shoulder.
"Errr, Rogue, y' feelin' alright?" Remy asked, unsure about the new development.
He wished he hadn't said anything because Rogue sat up straight.
"Yeah, ah'm finah. Ah just thought… well, we normally end up cuddlin' anyway so, erm, ah… nevah mind," she said, turning her face away and blushing.
Remy's smile was large and genuine as he reached his arm around Rogue's shoulders.
"Cuttin' t' de chase, huh? Like a girl who knows what she wants," Remy said, pulling her back into his side.
Rogue risked glancing up at him and a small smile graced her own lips.
Remy began to move so he was lying on the sofa. Rogue moved with him, enjoying it when she felt his arms strongly wrapping around her small waist and pulling her body closer to his. The way he held her, it felt like there was a desperate need to keep her close. Like, if he was to let go, then she'd slip away and disappear forever.
Rogue reached out and placed her gloved hand over Remy's, pinning them there to strengthen the hold.
As her tv programme came on, Rogue felt like she was in some heavenly place that almost didn't feel real. It was only Remy's slight movements and fidgets that reminded her how real this was. He'd stroke her arm and stomach with his free gloved hand. Occasionally, he'd reach up and move a piece of fallen hair behind her ear. She was sure there were times when his lips kissed the back of her head or her covered shoulder too, but she was fading in and out and wasn't completely sure if it was real or if she was just imagining it. Either way, they were bother happy.
Then in came Bobby and Jubilee, arguing about something. It sounded like Jubilee was calling Bobby out on cheating and was trying to prove her point. Bobby was arguing how it was a mutant game and making a point of Jubilee using her own powers in the game.
Jubilee seemed to be looking for something as she began moving cushions around on the other sofas. That was when she spotted the two southerners on the sofa, but her mind was too distracted with proving Bobby wrong to fully acknowledge them.
"On the table," Rogue said, barely audible over Bobby's ramblings.
Jubilee seemed to find the small thing she was looking for on the table, but Bobby, being in a mood, shot out some ice and froze Jubilee's hand.
Jubilee gasped at the cold. She squeezed her fist and her fire powers broke the ice.
"Your, like, so totally dead Drake!" Jubilee yelled as she ran after Bobby out of the room.
Rogue and Remy watched them go, then glanced at each other.
"Shared accommodations, huh?" Remy said.
Rogue snorted at that, her smile returning.
"Yeah, mutant residents and all. 'though," she said, turning her attention off Remy and onto the tv. "Bobby didn't half leave a draft in here," she said as she rubbed at her arms.
She didn't mean anything by it. She was, genuinely, colder than she had been and Remy's arms around her only kept some of the cold away.
Then, Remy began to move behind her. Rogue sat up and let him get up. She watched him walk away from her, curious and a bit confused, until she saw him pull out a fluffy blanket from a storage box. She smiled as he came back with it, understanding his intention.
Remy held out the blanket, wrapping Rogue up in it before taking his seat beside her again. Rogue leaned into his side as his arm wrapped it's self back around her. Rogue was sure to share the blanket with him and wrapped him up too.
Now that Remy was back beside her and they were under a blanket made for four, Rogue felt herself returning to her happy, dazed state.
"So, y' planin' on doin' anythin' else t'day?" Remy asked her, muttering into her hair.
"No. Not reallah," Rogue replied. "Just planned on goofin' off an' watchin' tv all day."
"Was I included in those plans of yours, or just an added bonus?" Remy teased.
"You were expected," Rogue said, a smirk tickling the edge of her lips. "But, it ain't unpleasant that you're here."
"Awww, y' tryin' butter up dis here Cajun?" Remy asked, giving a squeeze to her shoulder.
"Nar, just bein' honest," Rogue said, making a point of snugging up to him more as she placed her hands on his chest. "Ya the most comfortable pillow ah've ever found in this place."
Remy couldn't help but raise his eyebrow once again as he glanced down at Rogue. This wasn't the girl he'd come to know. Not the fiery one who made him jump through hoops to get to her. He wasn't complaining, of course, but still. With mutants like Mystique out there, he couldn't help but be a little questioning.
"Y' sure your feelin' alright?" he asked.
It took Rogue a minute to respond. She was so at ease under his arm. She breathed in deeply then exhaled slower.
"Ah'm just tired'a fightin' all the time. Of everythin' always seemin' ta be so difficult. Ah just want a day where ah can relax and just do what ah wanna do without worryin' about risks or the consequences… Ah just wanna be happy," she said.
Remy read between the lines. He guessed, what she was referring to when she talked about fighting a battle was the front she put up daily due to her skin. All the goth clothing, the make up, the bad attitude, her pushing people away, threatening them to seem like she was hardcore, everything. He always wondered how exhausting it must be to do that. Put up shields to protect everyone from yourself all the time because you felt dangerous and like a threat. He hadn't realised it, but he did wonder if she ever took a day off from all of it. And he guessed he got his answer. And he felt privileged that she let him in and see her when she probably felt at her most vulnerable.
Remy wrapped his free arm around Rogue's waist and moved his other up to her hair as he began toying with it. He turned his head and kissed the top of hers. If she was willing to share her vulnerability with him, then he would share a little bit of vulnerability with her.
"Then y' shall have dat chérie. I promise," Remy said.
Rogue turned her head up to meet his eyes.
"Just one day," she said, her eyes serious as she spoke. "Nothin' comin' from it," she said.
He guessed she was talking about them there. They had never really talked about what they were or could be. Remy had thought he'd made himself pretty obvious without saying it in so many words. He had his own shields up for a reason just as Rogue had hers. But still, he knew neither of them could deny the attraction.
"Just one day," he replied back to her.
It put that easy going smile back on her face. The one that made his chest feel warm. Rogue turned back to watch the tv and Remy just continued to hold her. He'd hold her for hours if he could. If she let him. There had been other things he'd wanted to get done that day, but when Rogue was offering him this, he just couldn't turn away from it. He knew he'd have to make things up later, but he'd trade in cleaning up some nasty messes for just spending a day holding Rogue any time.
The next couple to come in were Jean and Scott.
Again, they stood right in front of the tv as they argued about something meaningless. Rogue and Remy watched them, neither moving or saying anything as the pair bickered. It was only when Scott began to ask about where his car keys were that he spotted the southern pair looking up at him and Jean. Jean seemed to freeze too as she didn't realise they were there. They were both so quiet and just seemed to camouflage into the wreck room.
"They're in de kitchen, third draw from le porte," Remy answer Scott's question.
Scott glanced at Rogue, leaning into Remy and then to Remy, holding Rogue close. He'd seen them cuddled up before, but not as much as that. And, normally, Rogue never hugged back. She just let Remy hold her. But it looked like she was seeking Remy's touch herself. They looked… like a couple.
Scott became confused when it came to two things: how Remy knew where his car keys were and why they were cuddling up on the sofa the way they were. Of course, he'd got the announcement from the Professor asking everyone to leave her alone, but why was Remy with her?
"What?" Scott questioned, finding the word could be used to ask both of his questions.
"Didn't take em. Y' put 'em there last night after you an' blue boy got back," Remy replied, resting his head against his hand, obviously irritated by the intrusion.
"No, I mean-" Scott began to say, knowing he'd just received one of the answers to his question, but there was the other he wanted to approach.
"Aren't ya gonna be late?" Rogue asked, glancing up at Scott, clearly upset.
It took Scott back quite a bit as he saw how Rogue looked so close to tears. What was worse was, from the way she looked at him, it seemed like he was causing her to be so upset, but he didn't understand why.
"I, well-" Scott began to say when he was saved by Jean.
"That's right!" Jean near snapped. "We best get going," she said, near dragging Scott out the room.
She was sure to look back and shot Rogue a smile and a wink. It wasn't a nasty smile or wink. Just one that told Rogue that she understood what was going on and she'd make sure she kept it to herself. And that Scott kept his mouth shut too.
Rogue let out a sigh as she closed her eyes for a moment and just relaxed, feeling Remy's body under hers.
"Couples, huh?" Rogue joked.
Remy glanced down at Rogue, seeing her eyes had closed.
He began to move, lifting Rogue up temporarily while he brought his legs up on the sofa. He made it so she was in-between his legs and her entire top half was lying on his chest. He brought his arms up, wrapping them around her back and locking her against his chest.
"They ain't so bad. There be nice t'ings 'bout bein' in une relation," Remy said, reaching up and stroking some of Rogue's hair back.
The way she smiled gently, the way her eyes were so soft and filled with love as she locked eyes with him, he wanted nothing more than to reach down and kiss her lips.
"Guess not," Rogue said, before letting her eyes drift away, turning her head to watch the tv. Remy just continued to watch her. She was his entertainment for the day and, even though they weren't doing anything, he doubted he'd ever be able to find something better that could top this.
Dinner time was what drew them from the wreck room. Rogue seemed just as unhappy about being disturbed from her comfort as Remy was. Remy had an idea though. As he walked with Rogue along the corridors, his arm over her shoulder and pulling her in close as she seemed to be struggling to walk straight in her daze, he near whispered in her ear.
"How 'bout I go get de food an' y' go set up de telly in mon chambre?" he asked.
Rogue turned her head sideways to glance up at him, her raised eyebrow saying it all.
"No consequences," Remy said in response.
That small, dazed smile returned to Rogue's face. He kissed the top of her head before letting her go. He watched her leave, using the walls for support as she made her way to his room.
Remy had to dodge around a lot of people and questions in the dining room. Luckily, he was skilled at that and the Professor intervened a lot, almost as if he knew exactly what had happened and was happening. Psychics, Remy thought. He took his and Rogue's plates and slipped out of there after batting off every single X-Man.
When he came to his room, Rogue was waiting. They sat on the floor and ate holding their plates, not wanting to get food in Remy's bed. When they were done with their plates, Remy took them downstairs and returned back to his room to find Rogue hugging his pillow close to her body and mostly hidden underneath his covers. He could get used to returning to his room with her waiting for him like that. Remy slipped in behind her, lifting his covers and quickly slipping in behind her. Rogue continued to cuddle his pillow and he cuddled her.
They really had done nothing that day, expect watch one bad tv show after another and cuddle. Eventually, they both feel asleep, having accomplished nothing from the day. But for the pair of them, both of them felt like she'd accomplished something massive, even though, nothing was to come of them spending the day together.
