(A/N: Been a long time since I've done one of these, since before this fanfic account even existed, in fact. This is a Death Battle matchup that I came up with pretty much immediately after RWBY Volume 8 and it's swiftly grown into one of my most wanted. I really hope they do this for real someday. In the meantime, here's my take. Please remember that these are fictional characters and this is only my opinion. You are free to disagree and say so, but be respectful about it. Don't start any flame wars in my reviews. I've broken this into several pieces of content. Chapter One is the Death Battle itself, including a rundown on the characters, their battle, and the reason the winner won. Chapter Two is a more in-depth breakdown of how the conclusion was reached, to cover any questions you may have about the results. Chapters 3 and 4 are Death Battle Arena profiles for Penny and Mack, respectively. Inspired by Dimension Dino's awesome series on Dev iant Art, where he creates fighting game profiles for a hypothetical Death Battle game. I highly suggest checking it out, cuz it's really, really good. As a longtime fan of it, I couldn't resist making some of my own for these characters. And if someone lets Dino know about this (please do so) and he's reading, hey there! Love your work! Should Death Battle ever do this matchup for real, you are completely free to take anything you think is good from my profiles to help make your own. I'd consider it an honor. With all that said, let's get into this!)
Intro
Wiz: Penny Polendina, the Mechanical Maiden from RWBY.
Boomstick: And Mack Hartford, the Robotic Red Ranger of Operation Overdrive.
Wiz: When the forces of evil are threatening the world, it takes a lot of guts and boldness to take a stand and fight back.
Boomstick: Or in this case, nuts and bolt-ness. But which of these android heroes will prove the better built? He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle. (Note: This analysis will contain major spoilers for RWBY through Volume 8. If you care and are not current on the series, you have been warned. And I guess Power Rangers spoilers too, if that's something you're worried about.)
Penny Analysis
Wiz: In the world of Remnant, soulless monsters called the Grimm run wild, making life a constant struggle for survival. Yet amongst the horror, four kingdoms have managed to persevere against all odds.
Boomstick: And the most advanced kingdom of them all was none other than the northern land of Atlas.
Wiz: Actually relatively young compared to the other three kingdoms, Atlas nevertheless earned its place in the world through its impressive technological advancement and militaristic attitude. Eventually, they began to study Aura, the energy of a soul that is used by the Huntsmen and Huntresses to fight the world's monsters.
Boomstick: Atlas scientist Pietro Polendina discovered a way to transfer Aura, to capture it and cram it into something else.
Wiz: And so, using a portion of his own, he created the world's first synthetic being capable of generating an Aura: his daughter, Penny.
Penny: Salutations!
Background
- Name: Penny Polendina
- Height: 5'5" (1.65 m)
- Model Number: M374
- Dubbed the Protector of Mantle
- Based on Pinocchio
- Hiccups when she lies
- Is combat ready!
Wiz: Penny's unique nature proved...intriguing to the higher-ups in Atlas, who believed she would be instrumental in the coming conflicts for the fate of the very world. Soon, she was sent to participate in the Vytal Festival Tournament to prove herself as a warrior, while also making new friends and slowly learning to balance her duties with her human emotions.
Boomstick: And she was more than capable of holding her own, despite her naive and socially awkward nature. Penny's robotic form makes her faster and much stronger than a normal human. She can stop a speeding truck with just her bare hands!
Wiz: She was even strong enough to push the entire Amity Stadium through the air. Estimating its size and the distance and timeframe it was pushed, this would take force equal to 15 kilotons of TNT.
Boomstick: She's quick enough to match up with guys like Mercury, who can dodge natural lightning from a storm. Her robo-body is tough too, especially when she uses Aura to shield herself. (Note: Penny fought on par with Pyrrha, who Mercury had previously kept up with. She's also kept up with Cinder, who should be at least equal if not superior to Mercury.)
Wiz: According to Newton's Third Law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In order for Penny to be exerting that much force on Amity, she would consequently have to be withstanding the same amount back.
Boomstick: Aura can even be channeled into weapons to increase their durability too, like Penny's back full of swords!
Wiz: That's not her back; they're stored in a backpack.
Boomstick: ...no, I'm pretty sure that's her back.
Wiz: Volume 1 animation was iffy sometimes.
Boomstick: Well, regardless, this is her signature weapon: Floating Array!

Wiz: Floating Array is an unfoldable blade that can split into multiple, connected to Penny by wires. They run on their own computer network that directly connects them to Penny, allowing her to control them without actively holding the blades like a normal person.
Boomstick: The wires can stretch several dozen feet, allowing her to slash or stab you from afar! She can use them as spinning shields or grappling hooks to propel herself or drag things around.
Wiz: The swords can also generate and fire powerful beams of energy for attack or propelling Penny at high speeds, either individually or by coming together into a spinning circular array. This combined blast is so powerful it can push back enormous Grimm and slice through multiple airships. (Note: Velvet's recreation of this attack obliterated a Paladin mech, which previously had taken Yang with a Semblance boost to accomplish.)
Boomstick: But as badass as she is, Penny is a big step from invincible. Enough damage can overtax her Aura and break through to hurt her directly, like, you know...after star Beacon Academy student Pyrrha Nikos accidentally used her own wires to rip her apart.
Wiz: Fortunately, things like dismemberment or decapitation are just temporary setbacks to Penny. So long as her power core remains intact, it is possible to rebuild and bring her back.
Boomstick: Which her father did, and naturally, he gave her some kickass upgrades with it! The new Penny came equipped with jet boosters on her feet that let her fly, and her robo-eyes could zoom in, see in the dark, and track heat and Aura signatures.
Wiz: She even has a self-destruct function built in. Not sure...why he would put that in his daughter, but okay.
Boomstick: Hey, you never know when somebody'll need to go out in a blaze of glory and take their foes down with em! *sniffs* I can only hope my kids'll do the same.
Wiz: I...sure, I guess. With her fancy new form, Penny worked closely alongside the Atlas Military, and became known as the Protector of Mantle, just in time for Atlas to become the forces of evil's next target. Among the things hidden within Atlas was Fria, the Winter Maiden, one of the few beings left in the world capable of utilizing true magic.
Boomstick: Whenever a Maiden dies, their power is passed on to whoever is in their last thoughts, unless it's a dude or some old hag.
Wiz: When the power-mad Fall Maiden, Cinder, arrived to try and take Fria's power too, she generated a vortex of extreme cold to fend her off, and Penny, due to her robotic nature, proved the only one who could force her way through it.
Boomstick: Leading to her being present for Fria's final moments and getting those sweet magic powers for herself, bringing technology and mysticism together into one awesome force. (Note: Maiden powers operate seperately from Aura, and unlike Semblances can be used even after one's supply of Aura is depleted.)
Wiz: As the new Winter Maiden, Penny can control all aspects of the elements. She can manipulate the temperature, freeze things with ice, generate fire and lightning, form earthen and ice constructs, and summon powerful winds.
Boomstick: Other Maidens like Amber and Raven have even created entire storms, covering the sky in mere seconds!
Feats
- Pulled down an airship
- Lifted the Amity Communications Tower
- Intercepted and stopped a speeding truck
- Easily blocked bullets
- Survived falling from Amity to Schnee Manor
- Survived being ripped to pieces
- Fought toe-to-toe with Pyrrha Nikos
- Defeated Cinder, Neo, Russel, Sky, and the Ace Ops
Wiz: With her new powers, Penny became one of the most extraordinary beings in the world, only moreso when coupled with her incredible fighting skill. Aside from going toe to toe with four-time tournament champion Pyrrha, she held her own against four members of the Ace Ops simultaneously.
Boomstick: And those guys are the most elite team of Huntsmen in Atlas! You know, the most militaristic kingdom in the world?
Wiz: But at the end of the day, her new powers only put a target on her back, and led to her being afflicted with a dangerous computer virus that, if unchecked, would eventually lead to her self-destruction.
Boomstick: But her friends came in clutch, and using the legendary Staff of Creation, were able to loophole their way into giving her a new, fully organic body. She had finally become a real bo...uh, girl. (Note: After becoming human, Penny lost her previous robotic flight and weapons, but was able to effectively recreate them with her Maiden powers.)
Wiz: Tragically, despite finally achieving the impossible dream of becoming human, Penny would not get the time to fully enjoy it. Ultimately, when faced with the prospect of her Maiden powers falling into the wrong hands, she did what she had to in order to ensure that they, and her friends, would be safe, willingly giving up her life in the process.
Boomstick: ...probably for good this time.
Wiz: She may have started out as a mechanical misfit, but Penny would ultimately prove that she had the heart and heroic spirit to match that of any human.
Penny: *hugs Ruby* Do hugs always make you feel this warm inside?
Mack Analysis
Wiz: Andrew Hartford was an incredibly wealthy adventurer, who traveled the world hunting for ancient relics. (Note: This analysis will focus on the Red Overdrive Ranger himself and his on-the-ground weaponry and abilities. No Zords will be included.)
Boomstick: He's like if Indiana Jones was some sort of wacky gazillionaire.
Wiz: He was so busy with his work, he never found time to meet the right woman and get the family he always wanted. So naturally, he decided, "I got the money. I'll just build one!"
Boomstick: With the help of his loyal butler Spencer, he constructed the son he dreamed of, programming this humanlike android with false memories of a normal childhood and photoshopping pictures to hide the truth of his creation.
Wiz: This was Mackenzie "Mack" Hartford. For two years, Mack lived the life his father expected, reading adventure books and dreaming of one day going on crazy adventures of his own.
Background
- Name: Mackenzie Hartford
- Height: 6' (1.83 m)
- Age: 2
- Leader of Operation Overdrive
- The first successful robotic Ranger
- Enjoys adventure novels and video games
- Only person to ever beat Ronny at foosball
Boomstick: And then daddy unearthed the Coronoa Aurora, an ancient crown of legendary power, and released a bunch of monsters who wanted it for themelves, like the fire and ice brothers Moltor and Flurious.
Wiz: Prodded to fix his mistake by the crown's guardian, the Sentinel Knight, Andrew assembled a team of extraordinary individuals, intending to lead them as a new team of Power Rangers to find the crown's five gems before they could fall into the wrong hands.
Boomstick: Tracking down people with special skills? Shouldn't he have just gone with, I dunno, teenagers with attitude or something?
Wiz: But Andrew got grabbed before he could morph, and well...
Mack: *leaps out of a vehicle and scoops up Morpher* Overdrive, accelerate!
Wiz: To his father's surprise, Mack made the independent choice to step in and become Red Ranger, and after proving himself, he was allowed to continue on in the role.
Boomstick: With his Overdrive Tracker, Mack can instantly coat himself in a Ranger Suit, which increases his strength and speed, grants an instant mastery of close-quarters combat, and protects him from damage in a spray of sparks, though if it suffers too much, it's back to being a normal dude. Er, normal robot dude. (Note: Even when unmorphed, Mack's robot body is strong enough to lift and throw boulders that should weigh 10-20 tons.)
Wiz: All Power Rangers draw from the Morphing Grid, a multiverse-spanning field of energy. As they all draw from the same energy source in the same manner, we can look at other standard Rangers to determine what Mack is capable of. (Note: There are numerous instances of different Ranger teams fighting together against the same enemies with the same degree of difficulty, supporting that they should be comparable.)
Boomstick: Original Yellow Ranger Trini Kwan shoved around a boulder large enough to weigh over 12,000 tons, and Red Lightspeed Ranger Carter Grayson punched the demon queen Bansheera so hard it caused explosions across an entire mountain.
Wiz: Estimating the explosions' size compared to the mountain itself, this blow should contain a force equal to 1.6 kilotons of TNT.
Boomstick: Rangers are quick to react too. They've dodged lightning on more than one occassion, and the Magna Defender even reacted to pilot his Defender Torozord faster than the Terra Venture, a cosmos-crossing space colony!
Weaponry & Abilities
-Robotic Body
-Superhuman Strength
-Perfectly recorded memory
-Ranger Suit
-Superhuman Physicality
-Morphing Grid's Protection
-Natural Combat Skill
-Head Lamp
-OO Zip Shooter
-Grappling Hook
-Flares
-Parachute
-Combines with Drive Defender
-Drive Defender
-Sword Mode
-Blaster Mode
-Drive Lance
-Defender Vest
-Drill Blaster
-Tri-Laser
-Spiral Shooter
-Transtek Armor
-Red Sentinel Ranger
Wiz: Mack's Morpher also allows him to summon a wide variety of weapons to help him stand up to the forces of evil.
Boomstick: His Drive Defender is a sword for close-range combat, and can fire off rapid or more powerful charged shots of energy, because guess what? It's also a gun. Wait...
Wiz: His personal weapon is the Drive Lance, a mid-range spearlike weapon that packs more power than the Drive Defender, and can be used to perform a powerful fiery slash attack.
Boomstick: But that's small potatoes compared to the Drill Blaster! This beast of a weapon comes with two forms. The Tri-Laser launches a triangular field of energy that instantly coats whatever it hits in hardened concrete, while the Spiral Shooter fires off a spinning drill of energy to annihilate them!
Wiz: The Spiral Shooter is so powerful, it was able to destroy Vulcon, who had previously tanked an explosion that shattered a concrete sphere large enough to dwarf warehouses. To use it without suffering from its immense recoil, Mack or the other Rangers must wear the Defender Vest, a sturdy armor powered by a dragon scale, which also serves as a handy defense in general.
Boomstick: The Transtek Armor is a quick and nimble vehicle that can tear through baddies with its gripping pincers and laser blasts. It even transforms into a miniature walking mech! With all this gear, Mack was well-equipped to hunt down those jewels.
Wiz: But, after being afflicted by a computer virus, Mack discovered the truth of who, and what, he was. This caused a bit of an identity crisis, as he wasn't sure if his father really cared or if anything he did was his own choice or just his programming.
Boomstick: Luckily his friends were there to let him know he was still loved. I mean, they accepted a mercury-based alien, so really, what's a robot next to that? And the discovery wasn't all bad either.
Wiz: Mack's teammate Rose had been upgrading one of their weapons, the Sentinel Sword, with new technology too dangerous for a human, but since Mack wasn't one, he took it for himself, combining with Sentinel Knight into the Red Sentinel Ranger.
Boomstick: This 'Battlizer' gives him a big boost in power and defense, and comes with two swords that can launch powerful waves of energy.
Wiz: He can use them to form an explosive version of his team's symbol for a area-of-effect attack, and for his strongest attack, Sentinel Knight forms a tornado of energy that traps opponents, leaving them open for Mack to come in and hit with a fully powered slash.
Feats
- Lifted and threw a boulder while unmorphed
- Matched Flurious wielding the Coronoa Aurora's full power
- Dodged natural lightning
- Piloted the Sonic Streaker at Mach 3
- Survived being crushed by a 67 ton boulder
- Resisted being frozen by Flurious
- Took down five monsters at once
- Defeated Benglo, Blothgaar, Flurious, Moltor, and Vulturus
Boomstick: The Red Sentinel Ranger is so goddamn powerful that even after Flurious nabbed the Corona Aurora and its jewels, Mack was STILL able to go toe-to-toe with, and ultimately, overwhelm him. (Note: Flurious with the crown's power was able to unleash a blast that iced over an entire city, and even without it he could go toe-to-toe with Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. Yes, for real.)
Wiz: Having finally accepted his robotic nature, Mack gave it his all, using every bit of power he had to destroy Flurious once and for all and save the world, at the cost of his own life.
Boomstick: Well, until Sentinel Knight used the crown and its jewels to bring him back, and transform him into a human in the process! He got to become a real boy in the end. (Note: Between becoming human and Sentinel Knight returning to his original form, it is unlikely Mack can still access the Sentinel Ranger state post-series; however, as we are examining him at his peak, it is included in this analysis.)
Wiz: Now, Mack is living the dream he always wanted, traveling the world alongside his father on adventure after adventure.
Boomstick: Well...at least one of them got a happy ending.
Mack: ...I can feel my heart...Dad, I have a heart!
Battle
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLEEEEEE!
Mack Hartford walks down a street with numerous cars parked along it. Not far away, a raised freeway system stretches and loops amid the change to a lower elevation. Mack looks around curiously before drawing his Overdrive Tracker and activating its communicator.
"Hey dad? You sure this is the place?" he asks.
"Positive." Mr. Hartford confirms. "Some sort of robotic entity causing havoc there recently. Keep an eye out."
"Sure thing." Mack hangs up with a frown.
Suddenly, there's the sound of a horn blaring. Mack spins to find a large truck baring down on him. Before he can dive out of the way, a figure dashes in between them, holding out their hands and stopping the vehicle in its tracks. Mack blinks in surprise as Penny Polendina turns to look at him.
"Are you okay?" she asks.
"Uh...yeah. I'm good." Mack nods. "Thanks for the help."
"Oh, no problem." Penny smiles. "You really should not walk in the road though."
"Hadn't seen any drivers about." Mack says in mild embarrassment. "Anyway, I'm looking..." Mack stops, his gaze dropping to Penny's hands. Penny glances down to see that the synthetic skin on her palms was scraped away when she stopped the truck, revealing her metallic nature underneath.
"Eep!" Penny quickly hides her hands behind her back.
"You...you're the robot I'm looking for, aren't you?" Mack demands.
"Huh, me? No, surely not. Nothing mechanical here." She immediately hiccups and quickly goes to cover her mouth. Mack narrows his eyes.
"Nice try!" He reaches out to grab her, only for Penny to dodge back away. Pulling his Morpher back out, Mack raises it. "You won't escape me. Overdrive, accelerate!"
Running his tracker down his arm, Mack morphs into his Ranger form in a flash of red energy, drawing his Drive Defender in Sword Mode and holding it readily.
"You don't want to do this." Penny's eyes narrow as her backpack opens and releases Floating Array. "I'm combat ready!"
FIGHT!
Mack races forward, swinging his sword down at an angle. As he does, Floating Array splits into multiple swords, one of them blocking his slash while another strikes him across the chest. Several more blows drive him back before he flips over a low slash towards his feet, retreating to gain some distance.
"Blaster Mode!" Transforming his weapon to its laser form, he fires several shots. Penny's swords hover beside her, firing their own beams back and meeting his, all of them bursting between them.
Mack charges up and fires a more powerful blast, Penny bringing her swords in to form a ring and spin in front of her, blocking it. Holding her hands forward, several shoot forward, Mack dodging aside as one blade sails past him, then another.
Behind him, the swords sink into the sides of two parked cars, Penny smiling as she retracts their cables and yanks the vehicles towards Mack. The Red Ranger is alerted as they slam into him, pushing him closer to his opponent.
Planting a foot against one car's side, Mack manages to shove it off the blade and stop it pushing him.
"Drive Lance!" Swapping his weapon, he swings it to defend as Penny's swords come at him once again, quickly dodging past them and landing a slash that her Aura protects her from. Pulling back, he swings out hard and knocks her back. "Revline Time!" Drive Lance glowing and bursting into flame, he shoots forward, slashing past the android in a powerful strike.
Shielded by her Aura, Penny spins around and punches up as Mack turns to face her, her fist connecting under his helmet and throwing him into the air. Her swords spin together as he comes back down, juggling him as sparks spray from his suit before turning horizontally and swinging together, sending him flying.
Mack crashes against the front of a car hard enough to crumple it, Penny watching him rise to his feet.
"You're very durable." she admits, swapping vision modes in her eyes and blinking in surprise. "But you have no Aura...are you an android too?" Mack grins under his helmet, using both hands to lift the wrecked vehicle over his head.
"Good guess." he admits. "Hyaa!" Hurling the car forward, it flies towards Penny and she fires several beams from her swords, slicing through its middle and letting the pieces slide past her.
While she's distracted, Mack draws his Morpher and presses a button on it.
"Transtek Armor!" A red car-like combat vehicle comes speeding down the street, the Red Ranger leaping inside. Opening the claw pinchers on the front, he grabs Penny with them as he speeds down the street and out onto the freeway.
Raising the vehicle's front, he slams Penny down, bouncing her off the pavement before tossing her over the edge of the road. Activating her jets, Penny catches herself in the air, rising higher to loom above him.
Seeing that she's still up, Mack takes off again, Penny flying after him in pursuit. Her swords float alongside her, aiming down and firing energy blasts that Mack steers side to side to avoid, holes being blasted in the street behind him.
Turning into a curve, Mack drifts around it, putting himself in position to fire the Transtek's lasers back. Bringing her swords into several smaller arrays, Penny meets them with shots of her own, the Red Ranger resuming his driving down the road.
Increasing her speed, Penny flies out ahead of the Transtek and turns to face it, shooting down at full speed. Slamming into the street at just the right moment, she breaks a segment of it under her, using it to catapult the Transtek through the air.
"Engage transformation!" At Mack's command, the Transtek's pincers fold out into feet and arms fold out along its body as it rises upright, landing in a standing position as Penny turns in surprise. "Full power!" Planting itself solidly, the Transtek fires all of its lasers forward at full strength, creating a sizable explosion that tears a chunk of the freeway apart.
Mack's mini-mech takes a takes a curious step towards the smoke, unsure if his opponent has been downed. From within, a sizable chunk of pavement flies out, slamming against the Transtek and knocking it back, a crack appearing across its window.
Pointing her weapons back, Penny fires them to rocket herself foward while it staggers. Getting in range, she brings her swords to slash as one, slicing through the Transtek's right leg. A similar blow from the opposite angle takes off its other leg and the Transtek's body lands in front of her, Penny stepping back as her swords gather into one array.
"You have been a wonderful opponent." Penny tells him. "But I'm afraid I have to end this now." In the center of her swords, energy gathers as she charges up.
"Defender Vest!" Mack quickly summons armor onto himself as Penny fires her full strength beam, piercing through the Transtek and shoving him out of it. The Defender Vest holds as he's forced back down the street, turning away and letting it push on his back as he raises a hand. "Drill Blaster!"
The weapon appears in his hand and he swiftly spins around, firing it. The blast drills through Penny's beam, and she narrowly leaps aside as it sails past and explodes behind her. Mack spins the Drill Blaster's barrel around the other direction.
"Tri-Laser!" A triangular green shot fires forward and passes around Penny, leaving a concrete-coated statue of her behind. "Gotcha." Mack returns his weapon to its prior form. "Now, back to the scrap heap with you!"
Before he can fire another Spiral Shot, cracks appear around Penny's eyes, green fire escaping from them. The cracks spread across her body and she shatters free, rising into the air as she taps into her Maiden powers.
A blast of wind pushes out from her, shoving Mack back as he yells in surprise. The Drill Blaster is knocked from his grip, skidding across the ground and falling off the freeway as Mack grabs a streetlight to hold himself in place.
Mack draws the Sentinel Sword, his Defender Vest vanishing from his body. Penny holds her hand forward, firing an ice blast that quickly encases the Red Ranger as he draws the sword back.
"I'm sorry." she apologizes. "But you are going to make me late." She brings Floating Array together, back into their singular sword form. "I have friends to meet."
As she flies forward and brings the weapon down, a glow appears under the ice and Mack shatters free. Swinging the Sentinel Sword, he clashes it against Penny's blade, pushing until Floating Array shatters into metallic fragments.
"What?" Penny blinks in shock as Mack drives a kick into her stomach to push her back, holding the sword out in front of him.
"Red Sentinel Ranger!" With a powerful glow, the sword shifts to transform into Sentinel Knight before splitting apart and flying back, attaching to Mack and forming a suit of armor across his body. Two swords shoot off from his back as he holds up his hands, grabbing on as they attach over his arms.
Penny holds out her hands and forms ice recreations of her weapon behind her, sending them forward to attack. Mack meets them with slashes of his own blades, shattering through each as he approaches her. Collecting fragments of stone from around her, Penny forges them into a much bigger sword and swings it to meet Mack's strike.
The Red Ranger wins out once again, breaking through her sword and slashing her back. Kicking up, he launches her into the air and springs after, landing a speedy flurry of strikes as he pushes her higher before flipping up and slamming a kick into her face to send her rocketing down, cratering into the pavement.
As she stands back up, Mack hurls several energy waves, forming the Operation Overdrive symbol under her feet. It spins in place and glows brighter before exploding in a sizable blast, a brief glow passing across Penny as her Aura is shattered.
She staggers back against a guardrail on the side of the road as Mack lands nearby. Forcing herself upright, the glow around her eyes intensifies as she rises up into the air once more. Thunder booms through the air as the sky fills with clouds, lightning crackling amongst them and hail pouring down.
"I can't lose here!" she calls. "I have too much to live for!"
Holding out her hand, several bolts of lightning streak down, Mack dodging aside from each of them. Calling down more lightning on herself, Penny forms a sphere of green flame in front of her before focusing the lightning into it, firing the whole thing forward as a powerful beam similar to her previous sword blast.
The supercharged strike slams against Mack and shoves him through several layers of freeway, street collapsing down in a massive cloud of dust from the destruction. Penny holds up her hand and an even larger bolt of lightning streaks down into the midst of it, blasting the area further.
From inside, Mack comes leaping free, landing and sliding to a halt on one of the few pieces of road that hasn't been wrecked yet.
"You're strong." he admits. "But you're not the only one who has things to live for!" Spreading his arms, he stands firm. "I am a Power Ranger, and we will not be beaten!"
The armor on his front opens to reveal Sentinel Knight's face, firing a powerful tornado of energy forward. Around Penny, an icy whirlwind comes to life, the two cyclones clashing together and pushing against each other.
Crouching, Mack springs high through the air, the force of his takeoff shattering pavement behind him. Shooting towards the battling whirlwinds, he draws his blades back.
Seeing him coming, Penny holds her hand forward, flame gathering into a fireball. Before she can attack, Mack is there, pushing through the spinning vortexes and slashing out in a cross-pattern.
His swords tear through her robot body, splitting her apart and cutting straight through her core. Penny's face assumes a look of shock as her eyes slowly dilate and lose their light, the tornado slowing around her.
Mack lands on his feet as the quad-sected pieces of Penny crash down behind him, swinging a sword once more in victory.
"And THAT is how it's done." He nods in satisfaction, his opponent's remains blowing up behind him.
KO!
"Power down." Sighing, Mack demorphs and holds up his Morpher. "Dad, I found the robot, and it is dealt with."
"Good work, Mack." Mr. Hartford says proudly. "Better meet up with the others."
"On my way." Nodding, Mack hangs up and sets off to find his teammates.
Explanation
Boomstick: Ooh, that's rough. Looks like Penny's been turned into quarters...uh, again. And then blown up cuz why not?
Wiz: Penny had her fair share of advantages over Mack. Most notably, she had considerably more fighting skill, and her Maiden powers gave her a far more versatile set of abilities.
Boomstick: But Mack wasn't totally outmatched. The skill granted by Morphing let him hold his own, and Mack had plenty of powerful weapons at his disposal to fight back with. (Note: Raven was able to break free of being completely coated in ice, as did Cinder offscreen. It is likely Penny could break free of the Tri-Laser's immobilizing effects.)
Wiz: But Penny didn't have the stats to compare to Mack at his full potential. Penny could match characters who can dodge lightning, which moves at 287x the speed of sound, but Power Rangers like Mack can react much faster. Take the time the Magna Defender piloted the Defender Torozord to outpace the Terra Venture space colony.
Boomstick: From the distance and time the Colony is stated to have traveled across the series, it must've been moving at least 1.5x the speed of light here, and probably way faster. (Note: The Terra Venture traveled 5.6 lightyears in 212 days; however, the number of days was given at the end of the series while the distance was stated less than halfway through. They actually traveled far further in that timeframe. The colony was at half-thrust and had lost 1-3 engines when the Torozord outpaced it, which were factored into the calculation.)
Wiz: That's much faster than anything Penny could match, enough that she would be hard-pressed to consistently land attacks on him. (Note: Even if we assume Penny's beams are actual light lasers and scale her to Pyrrha dodging them, the Dino Charge Rangers kept up with the monster Leisure, who flew from Earth to near the sun at almost 500x the speed of light.)
Boomstick: Penny's Maiden powers were nothing to scoff at. Remember how other Maidens like Amber created massive storms that blanketed the sky?
Wiz: Given the apparent mass of the storm's clouds, summoning it could require power outputs of around 9 gigatons of TNT, more than enough to blow base Mack out of the water.
Boomstick: But the Red Sentinel Ranger was a different story altogether.
Wiz: Right. With his Battlizer, Mack went toe-to-toe with and ultimately defeated Flurious while he had the full power of the Corona Aurora.
Boomstick: The gems that power that crown are insane! Another villain, Kamdor, used one to create a meteor said to be powerful enough to end life on Earth.
Rose: If something that size hits Earth...we're all goners.
Wiz: Similar extinction-level events in real life are estimated to have possessed energy worth 100 teratons of TNT. That is over 11,000x greater than Amber's storm.
Boomstick: And that was just one gem! Mack's Battlizer matched up against a guy who had the power of FIVE of those! There was no way Penny's Aura and Maiden powers could hold out against something like that. (Note: The meteor was just barely stopped by the Rangers' Drivemax Ultrazord. Flurious with all five gems curbstomped Arsenal Ready, a much stronger Zord assembly, supporting this comparison.)
Wiz: Penny gave it her all, but Mack's sheer power and speed were ultimately more than she could handle.
Boomstick: He was on a level that she just couldn't...Mack-ch...?
Wiz: Really? That's the best you could...
Boomstick: Shut up.
Wiz: *sigh* The winner is Mack Hartford, the Red Ranger.
(A/N: Been working on this in my spare time for several months. Feels good to finally have it out there XD. Hope you all enjoyed. I don't know if I'll do more of these, cuz damn, is it a lot of work, but maybe. We'll just have to see. In any case, I'll see you all on whatever project comes next. Mewtwo, out!)
