Double Agent

Of all the people he didn't want knowing Augie Swann, Amanda had to be at the very top of the list. He didn't even want her to know that HE knew Augie Swann.

Augie was always looking for more women to add to his - for lack of a better word - payroll, and Lee hadn't missed the predatory look in his eyes as he'd swept them over her. He was probably measuring her for her mud wrestling bikini even as he held out his "business" card.

It gave Lee a slimy, crawling feeling up and down his spine.

Hadn't he told her, long ago, to stop reading those spy novels?

It's a good thing she never listens to me, he thought. She had realized at once that the pages they had weren't even remotely the right book. And she had thought of a location where the right book might be hidden.

He'd turned the car around at once and headed for Baltimore, not even worrying about the fact that this might be a wild goose chase. She had good instincts, and he was glad to indulge them if it meant getting to the bottom of this.
