Beep. Beep. Beep. The sound of the monitors filled the hospital room amidst the soft breathing of Beast Boy and Robin.
The door whooshed open and Cyborg walked in.
"Any luck at the station?" asked Raven.
Cyborg shook his head. "Nah, bro. They said they would keep an eye out, but there weren't any records of metas with those abilities."
"Whoever hurt friend Robin will not get away so easy," Starfire threatened, the glow of her eyes reflecting off the darkened walls as she enclosed her raised fist with a starbolt.
"I'm going out to investigate. I've been detecting spikes of magic around the city and they might be related to what we saw earlier," Raven declared, sinking through a portal on the floor.
Raven reappeared outside the building, gliding on a disk of shadow energy. She had passed a few streets when she noticed the distinct feeling of someone watching her. She quickly took a few sharp turns, ducking into a park.
"I know you're there. Show yourself!" Raven encased her raised hands in shadow energy.
The treeline rusted and a humanoid figure floated out on a saucer, wearing a fringed tunic decorated with a UFO-shaped brooch.
"Rachel Roth, daughter of Azarath, the Great Spirit has noted your interest in the Shaman fight and extends an invitation to participate." A female voice came out from the metallic, alien-shaped helmet. "I am Rutherfor, one of the commissioners from the Patch tribe that will oversee the Shaman fight. I will judge whether you are qualified. All you have to do is land a hit on my body. You have 10 minutes."
"I'm just here to stop whatever you and your friends have planned." Raven waved her hand and a bench encased in shadow energy flew towards Rutherfor.
"Mystery circle!" The bench suddenly fell to the ground and was flattened by an invisible force. "Wait, I never said we started!"
Raven grunted in reply and summoned a shadow claw to grab the saucer. Rutherfor flew out of the way, quickly zigzagging around the park as she was chased by a shower of trash cans Raven had launched. Raven teleported beside her and attempted to sweep Rutherfor off her saucer with a low kick. The UFO-shaped aura around the commissioner felt as if it were made from a solid material. Raven winced at the unexpected contact and instead opted to send a blast of her soul-self towards Rutherford's helmet.
There was a cracking noise and Raven suddenly found herself plummeting towards the ground as the gravity of the area increased. She quickly enveloped herself in a barrier to absorb the impact. Looking around, Raven saw Rutherfor hovering, unaffected by the change in gravity.. She was clutching a crack in her helmet, where a tuft of black hair was poking out. When she noticed Raven looking, she floated further away.
"Congrats on your qualification. Your next fight has been scheduled. The oracle bell will send you more details as the time approaches.*
Rutherfor tossed a gadget in Raven's direction before sending out another shockwave. While Raven was still reeling from the impact, she quickly glided away.
Raven gingerly picked up the device. "Deathstroke 3:23:59:00" it read. Raven narrowed her eyes at the screen. It was never a good thing when Slade was involved. She wrapped herself in her soulself and teleported away.
Robin was awake by the time she got back. "Any luck?" He asked. "Star went out to see if she could find anything and Cyborg's making sure she doesn't get carried away.*
"Slade's involved somehow. I found another one of them, or rather, they found me. They gave me this pager thing." Raven plopped the oracle bell by Robin's bedside.
"Slade. I knew we hadn't seen the last of him." Robin gritted his teeth as he picked up the device.
Raven filled Robin in with the rest of the events while he inspected the pager.
"I've sent out a request to all Titans to see if anyone's heard of this 'Shaman fight'." Robin clicked his communicator shut. "For now, let's try to gather more info."
