A Leap of Faith 2: The Past Come Crashing Back

Ch 1 Unsure Times

It was pitch dark in the Pride Lands and all the animals were sleeping peacefully. All except for one. This was a golden coated lion with a flowing red mane and kind amber eyes. This lion was King Simba of the Pride Lands and his night was anything but peaceful. The King had just woken up from a horrific nightmare. Panting for breath Simba wiped the sweat away from his eyes and brushed his soaking wet mane out of his face. Looking over he saw that his mate and Queen: Nala was still sound asleep next to him. Being careful not to wake his sleeping mate Simba got up and walked outside the cave to get some fresh air. Simba walked to the edge of Pride Rock and sat down, trying to steady his breathing as the cool air blew across his face. Simba didn't know how long he was there when he heard someone approaching him. Spinning around Simba found himself staring into the concerned face of his mother, Sarabi. "Mom!" Simba cried out, letting out his breath. "You scared me!"

"I'm sorry honey," Sarabi said, feeling bad that she had startled her son. Sarabi gave her son a nuzzle which he gladly returned. "I didn't meant to. But why are you up at this hour?"

"Couldn't sleep," Simba said, looking away from his mother. "How come you're up Mom?"

"I heard you tossing and turning in your sleep," Sarabi informed her son. "I figured you were having another nightmare. And when I saw that you were gone I had to make sure that you were alright. I know how those nightmares affect you."

"Mom I'm fine," Simba said, trying to sound as convincing as possible. Sarabi gave her son a skeptical look. "Really I am," Simba said with a smile. "I'm not a little cub anymore. I don't get scared by nightmares."

"Oh my sweet Simba," Sarabi said, giving her son another nuzzle. "Everyone gets scared. I know I do. And its alright if you do. It doesn't make you weak."

"I don't feel that way," Simba said softly, looking down at the ground as the tears stung his eyes.

"Oh my poor baby," Sarabi said, pulling her son close as he softly cried. "Oh my poor Simba. You've always been so hard on yourself. But please don't be so harsh on yourself."

"I feel so damn stupid Mom," Simba said, his voice muffled by Sarabi's fur.

"You are not stupid," Sarabi said, rubbing Simba's back with her paw. "You are one of the smartest lions I know."

"I shouldn't still be feeling like this," Simba said, puling away from Sarabi. "Scar's been dead for months now and there's been no sign of trouble from Zira or Shenzi in a long time. The only problems have been minor. Why the Hell is Scar still in my head like this?!"

"Simba you've been through a lot in your life," Sarabi said. "Far more than you should have had to deal with. You watched Mufasa die right in front of you. Then you spent months blaming yourself for that while at the same time being abused both physically and mentally by Scar. But you survived that. You are so strong my son. And I am so proud of you. And I know that Mufasa is too."

"You really think so?" Simba asked, looking up at the sky.

"I know so," Sarabi said, sitting beside her son and putting her paw around him. Simba laid his head on his mother's shoulders and let out a sigh as he words sank in.

"Thanks Mom," Simba said, pulling away from Sarabi and giving her a grateful smile. "I feel a lot better."

"I'm glad," Sarabi said with a smile. "But its getting rather chilly. Come lets go back inside and get some rest."

"Good idea Mom," Simba said with a yawn. With that the mother and son headed back in the cave to get some much need sleep.

The next day Simba woke feeling slightly better. Looking over he saw Nala was already gone. Getting up Simba stretched and shook out his mane and went to get some breakfast. After eating Simba began to walk back inside. Before he could make it in Zazu came flying towards him. "Oh Sire thank goodness!" the hornbill cried out, perching in front of Simba. "I've been quite worried about you!"

"Well good morning to you too Zazu," Simba muttered, rolling his amber eyes.

"Its well past morning Sire," Zazu informed the King. "In fact its mid afternoon."

"What?!" Simba cried out, shocked that he had slept all morning. "Why didn't anyone wake me?"

"Your mother said that you've had a rough night," Zazu said. "So Queen Nala let you sleep. She and your mother have been handling things today. I was worried that you were sick."

"Well I'm not sick," Simba said, the annoyance clear in his voice.

"Did I do something to offend you Sire?" Zazu asked.

"No Zazu I'm not annoyed with you," Simba said, giving Zazu a smile. "I'm annoyed with my mother. Do you know where she is?"

"I believe she's down by the watering hole," Zazu said.

"Thank you Zazu," Simba said, heading for the watering hole. "I need to have a little chat with her." With that the golden King headed for the watering hole to have a talk with Sarabi.

Meanwhile back at the watering hole Sarabi was enjoying the silence. But that silence didn't last for long. It wasn't long before Sarabi heard someone call her name. Turning her head Sarabi saw Nala bounding towards her. "Hello Sarabi," Nala said, smiling at her mother-in-law.

"Hello Nala," Sarabi said with a smile of her own.

"Have you seen Simba?" Nala asked. "I need him to go to Rafiki's tree with me."

"Is something wrong?" Sarabi asked, the concern clear in her voice.

"I just wanted to get a quick checkup," Nala said. "I haven't been feeling the best lately and I really don't like walking that long of distance alone."

"Well Simba's still sleeping," Sarabi said. "Poor dear was up most of the night."

"I know," Nala said, shaking her head. "He's been having nightmares again."

"I don't think we should wake him," Sarabi said. "But if you like I'd be happy to go with you."

"Thanks Sarabi," Nala said with a grateful smile. With that the two lionesses headed for Rafiki's tree neither one of them aware of a pair of creepy eyes watching them from the shadows.

A little while later Simba arrived at the watering hole. But to his surprise he saw no one there. "That's strange," Simba muttered. "I wonder..." Just then he heard someone behind him. Spinning around Simba saw no one there. "Hello?" he called out, only to be met by silence. "Is someone there?" Once again he was met by silence. Shaking his head Simba muttered, "I must be hearing things." With that Simba began to walk back to Pride Rock. But before he could take a step he heard the same rustling behind him. But once again when he turned his head he saw no one there. Shaking his head once again Simba let out a sigh and walked back to Pride Rock. Little did he know that there was indeed someone watching from the shadows.

"Damn that Simba," the figure snarled. "I should finish him right here and now. But I'm not my strongest right now so that will have to wait. But once I'm stronger he'll pay dearly for what he's done. And pay with blood." With that the figure let out a growl and slinked back to their home cursing Simba's name the entire time.

A/N well folks how'd you like the first chapter? Let me know in a review please.
