Ch 23 A Happy End

"Kiara slow down!" Tiifu called out as she and Zuri struggled to keep up with their friend.

"If I slow down then we'll be out here all day!" Kiara called back. "And besides how else are we supposed to ditch them?" Kiara nodded her head towards Bunga, Fuli and Ono, who were following the young lionesses.

"We'll never be able to ditch Fuli," Vitani said with a grunt. Then a sly smile went across her face. "But maybe you guys don't have to," she said with a slight laugh.

"Vitani what are you..." Kiara began. But Vitani held up her paw to silence her.

"Just follow my lead," she whispered. Kiara, Tiifu and Zuri nodded all three of them knowing that Vitani was the Queen of tricking people. "Well lets go towards the watering hole ladies," Vitani said loudly. "There's not much here." With that Vitani headed towards the watering hole with the others right behind her. They quickly ducked behind a rock.

"Hey where'd the go?" Fuli asked as they neared the rock.

"Ah who cares?" Bunga said, sounding bored. "This is boring. I'm gonna find my uncles and get some grubs."

"We did promise King Simba we'd keep an eye on Kiara," Ono said.

"Ah they'll be fine," Bunga said, waving his hand. "I'm out of here." With that Bunga left to find Timon and Pumbaa.

"Think we should look for them?" Ono asked Fuli.

"Nah," Fuli said. "Bunga's right for once. They'll be fine. I'm gonna find Kion and do some patrolling."

"Right behind you," Ono said. With that the two young animals were gone.

"Now we don't have to worry about being watched all the time," Vitani said with a smile.

"Luckily they were easily tricked," Zuri said with a smile.

"C'mon lets get back to the hunt," Kiara said. With that the four lionesses headed back out to find some prey.

A few hours later the lionesses were back with their kills. Zuri had caught a nice zebra while Tiifu had caught a juicy gazelle. Kiara had also been successful and had caught a small wildebeest. The three lionesses gladly shared their kills with their Pride. "I'm so proud of you honey," Simba said, nuzzling his daughter.

"Thanks Daddy," Kiara said with a smile. "And I did it all on my own too." Simba gave his daughter a sheepish smile, knowing exactly what she was talking about. But the golden King said nothing. Kiara let out a slight laugh and shook her head and went to join the others.

After the Pride had enjoyed the kills Simba gathered the Pride. "Ladies Nala and I have an announcement," Simba said. "As you all know today is our children's first birthday. And as is custom when Royal children turn one their parents announce who their mate will be."

"Simba and I have though long and hard about this and we feel that we've chosen the best possible mates for them," Nala continued. Kion and Kiara exchanged looks of both worry and concern.

"Since Kion and Kiara are twins they will be ruling side by side," Simba continued. "So their mates will also be ruling with them."

"The lioness we've chosen for Kion is a lovely young lioness," Nala said. "She is kind, well liked and we feel she will be a wonderful Queen."

"Which is why we've chosen Miwa to be Kion's mate," Simba finished. This earned surprised murmurs from the lionesses in the Pride.

"But she's not even a member of our Pride," one lioness muttered.

"And what's worse is she's a filthy outsider," another lioness put in.

"Not to mention Zira's niece," a third lioness said.

"Alright that's enough ladies," Naya snapped, glaring at her Pride mates. "Miwa is a sweet young lioness and its obvious she and Kion are attached at the hip." Naya nodded towards Kion, who was nuzzling Miwa lovingly.

"Buy aren't you and Cala upset?" the first lioness asked. "I mean I would be if my daughter was passed over for an outsider."

"No Shaka we're not angry," Cala said, making sure she kept her voice low. "I mean its obvious that Zuri and Mshiki's son Watoto are in love." Cala nodded towards Zuri, who had her head on Watoto's shoulder.

"Yes and Tiifu and Nuka have been spending a lot of time together," Naya chimed in. "So we're good with it and you all should be too and stop with all this 'filthy outsider' nonsense." Shaka and the other lionesses exchanged looks of shame and were silent as they watched the rest of the event.

"The lion we've chosen for our daughter is one of the bravest young lions I've ever met," Simba was saying. "He's also loyal, smart and is proving to be a very reliable lion."

"Which is why we've chosen Kovu to be Kiara's mate," Nala finished.

"What?!" the lionesses cried out, their eyes wide..

"He's Zira's son!" Shaka cried out, not even bothering to keep her voice low.

"He'll destroy the Pride Lands just like Scar did," another lioness cried out.

"You can't trust him!" a third lioness cried out.

"How could you do this to Malkia and Tama?" yet another lioness cried out.

"Yes Kopa should be Kiara's mate!" Shaka chimed in. "This is a betrayal to Malkia and Tama!"

"Alright just stop!" Malkia shouted, silencing the lionesses. "For one thing there is no betrayal here."

'We talked with Simba and Nala at length about this," Tama chimed in. "While it is true that Kopa was betrothed to Kiara when they were born we all agreed that they were better suited with other lions."

"And all of you should be ashamed of yourselves," Malkia snapped. "Kovu and Miwa have been nothing but loyal to us and their sweet, caring young lions. The fact that they're related to Zira is moot."

"If any of you have a problem with the choices Nala and I have made then I suggest you get over it," Simba said. "Because if I hear anyone talking bad or doing anything but be supportive then there will be consequences. Am I clear?"

"Yes Your Majesty," the lionesses muttered.

"We're sorry about out outburst," Shaka said, looking at the other lionesses who nodded in agreement.

"Just don't let it happen again," Simba said. "I won't have any negative attitude ruining my children's special day." The other lionesses murmured among themselves but just nodded.

A couple of months later things were going smoother in the Pride Lands. The other lionesses were slowly accepting Miwa and Kovu as their future King and Queen. Now it was the day for Miwa's first hunt. As she and her family weren't part of the Pride no one was there except for Kovu, Nuka, Vitani, Kion and Kiara.

"Good luck honey," Kion said, giving Miwa a nuzzle. "I love you."

"I love you too," Miwa said with a smile.

"You got this sis," Ndugu said, giving his big sister a nuzzle. Miwa smiled at his little brother then gave her parents nuzzles.

"Good luck sweetie," Tojo said, giving Miwa a lick.

"Thanks Daddy," Miwa said. Just then Tiifu, Zuri and Kopa arrived.

"Ready to go Miwa?" Tiifu asked with a smile. Miwa nodded and with that she, Tiifu, Zuri and Kiara left for her hunt.

A few hours later Miwa had returned with a small gazelle in her jaws. When she dropped her kill she looked around and to her shock Simba and Nala were there along with Bunga, Ono, Fuli and Beshte. "Surprise!" Kion cried out with a smile.

"You guys are the best," Miwa said, nuzzling her friends.

"Can't have you celebrating your special day alone now can we?" Fuli asked with a smile.

"And you are going to be family very soon," Simba chimed in as he and Nala nuzzled Miwa. The pale young lioness smiled at her future father-in-law. Without another word she went to celebrate with her friends. As Simba was watching this he smiled at the scene. The golden King was thrilled that things were going so well for his family and they were so happy. He just hoped this happiness would last forever.
