Written By: Lady Lunar Phoenix
A/N: Sooo this demanded to be written, the title is a work in progress... So this is another of my continuation fan fics. And no, I'm praying this isn't another 100+ chapter beast. Song lyric title currently is based off a song I heard to a gmv to DMC5. I'll work on this fic in response to demand for it, cuz I have like other fics I'm working on...

The slab of stone was probably half an arm length thick, but Dante shoved it off him carelessly. It was already a cracked and broken mess anyways, accomplishing little more than covering him in a slash of white powder mixed with spilled demon blood. The stench of blood and rotted flesh wasn't eased off with the increased open air, while he sat up. All around him there were dead demon bodies, in spectacular pieces. His gaze rose up and a grimace pulled at his features as he noticed the distinct lack of hourglass.
He had only seen it once before.
Tearing his gaze from the now empty pedestal he took in the area. The ground was scorched by Griffons lightning strikes, there were gouges in the bits of wall from Shadow, and nothing but the naked empty dark dome that served as a sky.
"Hey Vergil! Next time you decide to let your friends 'cut loose' could you give them some direction? You know? Away from massive magical objects?" Dante tauntingly called out against the worry he felt within.
The blast, whatever caused it, had knocked him away. But Vergil had changed into V at the time and while his restored demon powers made the familiars 'stronger'. Vergil had been airborne at the time and Vergil was not getting up...
'Calm down Dante, he's probably dazed, you were after all,' he told himself as his gaze began to sweep the area around him. But he didn't see any long blue coats, no white hair... The grounds were empty and he had to dig deeper into his memory.
A pair of goliaths had ambled their way into the area, attracted by the combat.
Vergil had been in the air, his familiars had been running amok as always when the blast...
The thought sent Dante to the edge of the platform that the tree trunk had grown around and towards the distant ground. So little light, only the lurid unnatural only not, glow revealed little down below. It was the glint of silver off in the distance that got swallowed up by something moving that caught his attention. Without a care he dropped off the ledge, letting gravity pull him down as he tried to make sense of what he saw.
But once his vision managed to clarify his curiosity. Gravity stopped being sufficiently 'fast enough' for the Devil Hunter. The ground was falling away, the blood smeared dirt cleaned up to dusty brown. Land rolled away carrying whatever it was in the distance further away as human world walls began erupting out of the ground. Cars rose up like the dead, twisted and mangled, pushed up against building walls and ruptured land. Without thought his human form erupted into his demon form, his wings snapped open and he angled himself straight for a small group of Nelo Angelos.
The world began remolding itself into back into a city he used to know. But back then there had been no Nelo Angelos.
Despite the inclusion of walls and cars, along with being shielded by cumbersome bodies and large shields, Dante could see V, not Vergil, defenseless on the ground. No signs of familiars fighting to defend him, meaning that V had been knocked out. One demon reached down and something gold lit up from behind the milling shields and bodies.
Fear bore its fangs down on Dantes' heart as he summoned Ebony and Ivory into his hands, firing at the demons. V didn't turn back into Vergil. The Nelo Angeloes flew off, the golden light among them, shields raised to protect themselves from the guns that Dante used.
V didn't turn back into Vergil.
The silver cane that V used glinted abandoned off to the side, as Dante dropped to his knees in mounting concern. His demon form burned away as his human fingers desperately sought out V's pulse. It wasn't until he felt it, slightly elevated at that, when Dante finally started to relax. He sank down in relief and rested his elbow against his knee. Soon enough the form would shift, any possible broken bones from the fall would be healed. While his brother would turn into electric blue light and back into the stuffy twin he had known.
"Man Vergil, you gotta stop doing stuff like this, if I didn't already have white hair, you'd be the cause of it becoming so with these stunts." Dante joked as he looked around, his gaze tracing over advertisements for movies that had been out for years. Promoted as 'the latest release', advertisements for bars and shops... Though the streets were still empty, neither human or demon came out to greet the pair.
