"So where did you come from exactly?" Gray asked Haku.
"The Land of Water before my master, Zabuza, took me in. He unfortunately met his end by Kakashi's hand." Haku had tears in his eyes at the memory.
"I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost someone close to me too, but that's why I keep doing my best. It's a wonder we met by these circumstances, huh?"
"I agree." Haku said, before his stomach growled.
"I'm getting hungry too. There's a restaurant up ahead." Gray said, pointing to the place.
"Hi, welcome to the Hargeon Restaurant!"
"What can I get you gentlemen?" One of the waitresses said, smiling once they got to their table.
"I'd like a coffee, please." Gray told her.
"Do you guys have green tea?" Haku shyly asked.
"We certainly do pumpkin. Coming right up." She went to get the drinks.
Man, the girls here sure are cute. Haku thought, blushing.
After the waitress gave them their drinks, she wrote down their orders: steak with mashed potatoes for Gray, while Haku ordered a light curry with rice and some dango for dessert.
"I'll be back with your orders."
Haku talked about his past and why he's in the guild.
"It's so I can be stronger and surpass my master."
"I feel the same way here. If you ever need help, just call on me."
"Thank you, Gray. I appreciate it."
Plates were set down in front of them and the waitress asked if they needed any refills on their drinks.
"We're good, thanks." Gray said.
"Okay, enjoy!" She said, bowing.
"Thank you, miss." Haku said.
"You're welcome."
After eating and paying the bill, they thanked the staff for the meal.
"Anytime, come back soon!" They waved.
What nice people, I could get used to this town. Haku thought, smiling slightly.
I'm glad Haku's more comfortable. Gray thought.
"I hope you're not too tired after eating." He told Haku.
"I'm good, thanks for treating me to lunch and sorry for fighting with you earlier."
"It's no problem; after all, we're friends, right?"
Friends, right. I forgot what being a friend meant for the longest time since Zabuza's death. Haku shook his head, and then he looked up to the sky. His face shone with happiness.
"Yeah, I'm ready for anything! Let's go!" Haku ran ahead.
"Wait up, you!" Gray laughed, catching up to the other boy.
"The map says we should be around here." Gray put his finger on the map with the X mark.
"Understandable. What do you think is in there, treasure?" Haku asked, eyes twinkling with anticipation.
"The guild master said that there's a guardian for said treasure and we have to defeat it."
Haku curled the fingers on his right hand, grinning. "All right, let's get this going!" He ran ahead of Gray, who took some time to catch up to the speedy ninja.
Gray finally caught up with Haku and was in awe at the female guardian, who was incased in ice.
She looks just like my master. I could never hit her. He thought.
It looks like Gray's in a bind, but don't worry. I'll do my best! Haku clenched his fist.
The guardian's eyes opened and screeched loudly, breaking the ice around her.
"Looks like we got our work cut out for us, huh, Gray?" Haku asked.
Gray was on his knees, not getting into battle. The ice ninja grabbed his arm and got them away from the ice blast before almost getting hit by the ice shards afterward.
"What's the matter, Gray?" Haku wondered.
"She looks just like my master." Gray wept.
"It's only an illusion created to confuse you. She's not what you think she is."
"I can't do it, I'm sorry!"
Looks like it's up to me, then. Haku thought as he readied his weapons and threw them at the guardian, who screeched again.
"Gray, we need to work together to beat this! Crystal Ice Mirrors!" He performed the jutsu.
The guardian was confused as the mirrors went around her before Haku hit her vitals every which way.
Time to end this! Haku went for the jugular before Gray yelled, "Stop!"
The two had their heads turned to Gray, who had an ice orb in his right hand and was charging toward the guardian, yelling.
The female had no chance of dodging the attack toward her abdomen and had hit the spikes of ice behind her. It was over.
Panting, Gray fell backward.
"Are you okay?" Haku asked.
"Never better; I finally saw through the illusion in time." Gray replied.
"I'm sorry that I argued with you."
"It's okay, I needed to get her before she got us, you know? I'm the one who should be sorry."
"No harm done. Let's get that treasure and show our friends."
"Right behind you."
They both returned to the Guild with treasure in tow, grinning from ear to ear.
"We got it Guild Master!" The two ice users said.
"All right, now let's open this up!"
The key that Gray had picked up went into the chest and unlocked it. When they opened it, many gold items were seen along with a piece of paper. Gray picked it up, reading it.
"Congratulations, you have successfully defeated the guardian and got the treasure! Do with the treasure as you will. Many thanks, Guild Master."
"Huh? Did you do this, Guild Master?" Gray questioned.
"I wanted to test your skills in battle as well as your mind and you passed." The Guild Master said.
"Guild Master, thank you."
They all celebrated with an enormous feast and many laughs were shared between the Guild members. Haku could never have been happier.
