I don't own Danny Phantom or Grossology. They are owned by their respective companies. Though Joe Gutchern is an original character.
Danny and Abby looked to the broken ghost containment unit. It was in pieces. Lab Rat was in the same mood as he watched while Hermès kept Joe at bay with the shoulder-mounted turret.
But the ghost was getting stronger and more maniacal. His movements were becoming violent and unpredictable as the spirit started to wail and scream.
It was a catastrophe.
Danny and Abby looked to each other for hope. They both asked the same question as they got back up to fight.
"What do we do now?"
Ty was running back to the war zone. Or at least he was trying to. Sloppy Joe, or rather Clean Joe, was stopping him at every turn.
He had landed at a nearby mall where Sloppy Joe had rolled to. The boy's garbage and waste prison served to cushion his fall as he landed on the criminal. But the disgusting mess only slightly elevated Joe's mood.
The boy wanted to get back and help, but Sloppy took the device and threw it away when he started his jet pack.
"My jet pack!" Ty yelled, angry as it'll take a bit longer to get back to the fight and help his friends.
"HA HA, now that's one less grossoloist for my buddy joe to worry about."Sloppy Joe said as he laughed at Ty's expense.
Ty retorted with his goop canon, right into Joe's face and stopped his laughter. In his anger, Sloppy Joe was about to smash his fist on the lone grossologist. After a few missed rounds, something caught both their attention.
The two stopped as they heard a ghostly scream. It was ear-splitting as the nearby windows shattered. Ty and Joe ran for cover as they dodged the sound waves and shards.
They used a nearby car as a shield. Sloppy tipped it over as Ty gooped it down before they jumped over. The two waited it out as the shriek came with glass following. It was only for seconds, but it felt like hours for the grossologist and crook.
As the scene calmed down, Ty pulled out his gagcom to contact the others. The screen popped up to show Abby somersaulting around as Danny fired off giant rays of ecto-energy. The boy could see Hermès firing rockets at Gutchern.
"Joe! Buddy!" Sloppy Joe cried out. But the screen turned to Lab Rat, who answered.
"Ty? Is that you!?" the gagologist screamed. He gave a smile as he saw Ty push Joe out of the way. "We thought you could be gone!"
"Ty!" Abby yelled. She flipped back, landing near Lab Rat, grabbing the com out of his hand. She nearly cried tears of joy as she saw her younger brother. "I'm so glad you're ok! What happened?"
"Gutchern threw me at a mall and I met Sloppy Joe here." Ty pointed at Sloppy with his thumb. The unhygienic man just stared at the screen to make sure his friend was alright.
To the man's dismay, Joe Gutchern didn't seem himself. The ghost was crying in what appeared to be pain as his movements became less coordinated.
Danny could be seen holding his off but was overpowered by the sheer strength the gross ghost had at his disposal. Not to mention the sheer weirdness that was the limbs of trapped citizens preventing him from going all out.
Abby and Lab Rat provided cover fire. Their goop cannons stung the ghost while keeping the people unaffected.
"I don't know what we're gonna do! Gutchern's out of control and he's getting erratic!"
"What about the Ghost Containment Unit?" Ty asked as the other grossologist gave him grim looks
"That's no longer an option now, Ty. Gutchern managed to destroy it before it could be fully used." Abby said. Lab Rat moved the camera to show the remains of the ghost trap.
Ty was disheartened to see that.
"So there's no way for us to stop Gutchern?" The boy asked.
"I don't know! The only other way for a ghost to be gone is for him to move on! Maybe! But I don't see how that's gonna happen!" Lab Rat rolled out of the way, shooting at Gutchern as he flew through the air. "Our ghostly Joe doesn't seem to be himself any more. And I doubt we have anything to do about it."
While Sloppy Joe listened in as best he could, the man, while happy his buddy was alright, was concerned when he heard the words 'move on."
"Gone!?" Joe gasped, giving Ty a scowl. The boy had his goop cannon ready. "What are you fellas doing to my buddy?"
"Uhh...what we always do!" Ty responded with a harsh tone. "Besides, on tv, in order for ghosts to move on, they need to make peace with themselves."
The gagcom showed Gutchern flinging nearby cars at the teens. Everyone came together as Danny brought up a shield.
"Yeah, somehow, I doubt Joe has any peaceful thoughts right now," Danny snarked as he put more power into the shield.
As his head rose up, the gross ghost was glowing a disgusting and filthy hue of dark green energy.
Another loud, pained roar echoed through the city. It shattered windows, pushing more shards of glass. Ty and Joe went back to their makeshift barricade for cover.
"Lab Rat! What's going on!" Ty yelled.
Lab Rat's screen was getting staticky. His camera was shaking as the boy moved for safety. In the Hermès brought up a unique rocket and fired it directly at Gutchern. The gagologist ran for cover with Sanny and Abby as he steadied the camera.
The gagologist went to work. This rocket was a special spectral scanner made just for Joe, and it was working like a charm.
"It's the what's happening to Gutchern with this new form." Scans and reading went up. "It seems merging with the grombies has made things incredbly taxing and all the extra brainwaves coming from the people infected by the virus is affecting him. He's starting to lose control. And he's in a lot of pain."
Ty gasped as Sloppy Joe grabbed the gagcom.
"What do you mean it's hurting him!?" Joe demanded. His pale face scowled.
"I mean..." Lab Rab's connection went weak for a moment. In a fit of fear, Ty hit the gagcom on its side, hoping its fixes the device. Luckily the screen came back on. "Guys...did you hear me?"
"No!" Ty and Sloppy yelled.
Lab Rat sighed, rolling out of the way of the raining slop. He fired a few rounds before going back to the two. "What I say was that everything is slowly becoming unstable. And the worst part is we have no clue what could happen to Gutchern or the people he's merged with."
"So we're dealing with something completely new that could destroy itself or the city!?" Ty was shocked, but not as much as Clean Joe
The man was torn to hear of the predicament of his new best friend. Things have been tough for the ghost recently, but things were starting to make sense from the pain and everything. The man wept as he thought of how things were downtown.
Ty and Joe were trying to calm down as the former made a run for the city with the gagcom still on, hoping for the best. But he was stopped by Clean Joe.
"Is there anything we can do for Joe!?" Clean Joe screamed through the intercom.
"The only way to do that, would be giving Gutchern something to make peace with. But all we know is his body's under a mall."
"Which mall!?" Joe grabbed Ty and shook him. "Tell me!"
Ty shrugged the man off. He aimed his cannon and fired. Sloppy Joe now found himself stuck to the wall with no sweat to slip him out.
"Hey! Let me out!" Joe demanded.
"Why should I? You'll only try to stop me!"
"But Joe's my friend." Sloppy Joe shed a tear. "Please, you gotta let me help you! I can't let my buddy stay in pain!" The clean man was weeping. "Please!"
Ty kept his blaster pointed at the man. He pondered on the situation as he looked to the center. Things were grim. The ghost containment unit was destroyed, and Gutchern was a monster.
What was he to do?
Danny did everything he could to hold down Gutchern. There were times the ghost boy would try to blast ice at the gross ghost. Tried being the keyword. Every blast he threw was regular, green, ectoplasmic energy, and it was starting to lag with Gutchern. Every attempt to use his ice powers ended with a chill or shiver.
Abby kept to guerilla tactics as she provided support. In all her time with the Bureau of Grossology, she never dealt with such high stakes. The said could be said for Lab Rat and Hermès. The little rat was running out of rockets, and his friend had only a few depth charges.
Gutchern made a mad dive at the group, flying fast and low in an attempt to ram or assimilate them into his monstrous form.
Lab Rat jumped to the side as Abby ran. Danny jumped into her, forcing her down low enough as the gigantic ghost's form missed with its hostages' limbs reaching for them.
The ghost went up as it disappeared for a moment.
Danny panted as Abby, who was tiled on top of him, leaned up.
"I think it's safe," she said, panting as she gave the ghost boy a glance. "Thanks."
Danny nodded, pushing Abby's long hair out of the way
"What's wrong?"
"The hair," Danny commented, pushing it away.
"Sorry." Abby blushed through her mask as she brushed it back. She never liked the barber, which was why the girl had hair that went to her ankles. "I know it's a lot but—"
"I like it." Now it was Danny's turn to blush as he blurted out the words. The two stared for a moment with a smile before they heard a roar.
Gutchern was making another attempt at flying low. Abby helped Danny up, only this time, the ghost boy reached a limit. Out of all the ghosts he fought, non had shown as much tenacity.
In a fit of rage, Danny flew ahead at full speed. He and Gutchern stared each other down in a game of chicken. Neither back down as Joe's wicked grin greeted the ghost boy's glare. They were closing the gap within seconds.
"Danny!" Abby yelled as Lab Rat dragged her to cover. The impact was not going to be small.
But Gutchern's head grew as he opened his mouth and shallowed Danny whole. The ghost licked his lips as he soared up, savoring his victory.
Abby and Lab Rat watched in horror as the ghost boy was eaten alive. Hermès squeaked in horror as his friend held him. The girl was torn.
Inside, Danny could see just how disgusting the ghost was once more, only this time the filth was trying to disgust him with grosser procedures. The boy dry heaved for a moment as he pushed back with a ghostly shield.
The moan and aches of the people absorbed filled his ears as he saw their bodies seemingly mashed together like a Frankenstein doll. It was heart-wrenching.
"You know what?" Danny said as power coursed through his body, growing stronger.
"I've had enough of this!"
The power reached an endpoint.
"Of how gross things have turned out, and how I could barely do anything!"
The energy turned from green to blue.
"Of how things have spiraled out of control!"
His eyes were now an icy blue, and they glowed brighter and brighter.
"And I've had enough! Of YOU!"
Danny yelled as he released all of his pent-up emotions. The ectoplasm became ice and pushed through Gutchern, bypassing the filth lines while freezing around the citizens inside.
Gutchern felt his stomach rumble in pain as the spikes of ice pierced his layers, threatening to split him in half. The ghost tried to keep himself together, but the energy proved too much to contain as his back gave way to a large cluster of ice with its frost encasing his layers.
Joe stopped midair as he splattered into the ground like a stain.
Abby ran over with Lab Rat following as they looked for signs of Danny. They hopped every drop of Gutchern's layers along the way, hoping to uncover their friend before it was too late.
But the ghost boy was tougher than they thought, as he burst out of the parts that made up the stomach. He was dazed, tired, but healthy. The grossologists ran up to the boy, with Abby embracing him in a hug.
"You did it!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah, but now what?" Lab Rat asked, looking around.
To their collective dismay, the layers and globs of filth began to merge. Abby and Lab Rat fired their cannons but heard clicks of emptiness. Hermès was out as well, looking back to see any auxiliary weapons gone with anything else.
"Does anyone have any ideas!?" Danny screamed, reeling in horror as Joe Gutchern reassembled himself and gave the teens a twisted smile.
He got his answer not in a shout or scream but in a normal tone of voice. One that broke through to the ghost.
"Joe?"
Gutchern stopped and turned to see Sloppy Joe with Ty. The crook was covered in stink again with extra layers of filth this time. He almost smelled like Gutchern.
"Hey, buddy...how are ya?"
The ghost saw his friend walk over with a large pile in his hand. It was like a cocoon made up of waste and waste by-products. Sloppy Joe laid it down as he cracked it open to show a skeleton in the remains of a uniform.
It was Gutchern's skeleton.
I originally was going to have this as two chapters, but that seemed too long. We have two or three chapters left, according to new calculations. Next time we see the end of things for Joe Gutchern and maybe more about himself.
It feels so long since I've updated anything. So I'm gonna try and update any story I have once a week unless chapters are still in development. Enjoy.
Special Thanks! to Jay The Average Fanboy for all his help!

IrishKatana: Apparently Sloppy Joe.
danifan3000: Inspired doesn't mean the Fenton copy the Ghostbusters to the bone. The same can be said for some people to be inspired by one thing yet turn it into another.
