Amphibia: Calamity Journey

Chapter 4

Flood, Sweat and Tears

The story starts with Anne, Jason and Sprig at the Plantar's front yard. The farm is filled with holes. Anne is holding a tennis racket as Jason has the Monado strapped to his back.

Sprig: You guys ready?

Anne: You set 'em up, Jason gives me the pitch, and I'll knock 'em down.

Spring: Okay.

Sprigs jumps down into the hole as Anne and Jason wait patiently on the surface.

Anne: Come on. Come on!

There was a rumble underground when Sprig arms popped out with a huge bug.

Sprig: Coming at ya.

Jason appres with the Monado out and activated with a blue glow.

Jason: Backslash!

He rears it back before striking it in the back towards Anne who rears back her racket.

Anne: Backhand!

She swings the racket onto the bug, making it fly away. Jason pulls up now in a commenters stand.

Jason: It's going, it's going! And it's gone folks! Anne Boomchoy with a fantastic home run.

Anne waves it off while giving a bow. Sprig pops his head out of the ground as Jason walks over.

Sprig: Nice swing!

Anne: I was on varsity.

Sprig: I have no idea what that means and Jason you're getting really good at the Monado. That was one cool move you did.

Jason: Thanks Sprig. I've been trying a few things with it. I've come up with a few moves which I'd call Arts. Patent Pending

They all do their secret handshake, before then laughing. They then hear some music, turning around seeing Wally walking toward them.

Anne: Well you're getting kinda good at it. Kinda jealous.

Jason: Hey, I'm just awesome.

They all laugh as they do their secret handshake, chuckling after word. They then hear accordion music in the distance when they see Wally arriving.

Wally: A frog child and two monsters from the woods getting along? With one having the mythical Manado. So unnatural.

Anne: Pssh! Of course we get along. We're Sprig, Anne, Jason.

Sprig: Anne, Jason, Sprig.

Jason: Jason, Anne, and Sprig.

Anne and Sprig: Spranson against the world!

Wally: Disgusting.

He starts to walk away, playing his accordion as Jason scoffs.

Me: I bet you aren't even from here Wally. I bet that's not even your real name.

Anne and Sprig laugh at his joke, but Wally sweats profusely.

Wally: WHO TOLD YOU?!?!

They jumped in surprise from his outburst as they all stared back at each other.

Jason/Anne/Sprig: What?

Wally didn't answer as just ran away. Anne and Sprig looked at each other as they both shrugged. Jason on the other hand narrowed his eyes in suspicion. It was soon interrupted by Hop Pop screams from inside the house.

Anne: Was that Hop Pop?

Sprig: Sounds like he's in trouble.

Jason: Or he fell over. That is a good reason for my Grandpa to scream.

Anne: No time dude.

They then run into the house.

Sprig: We're coming, Hop Pop!

They go down into Anne and Jason's room seeing that it's all flooded.

Sprig: Hop Pop! Hop Pop!

Anne: Whoa! What happened here?

Jason: Ok who made a pool in the room and didn't invite me!

Sprig bent down closer to the water, not able to see Hop Pop due to the water being so dirty.

Sprig: Hop Pop?

After a short wait Hop Pop popped out the water, screaming, scaring everyone in the process. Jason brought out the Monado and almost decapitated him if he didn't duck.

Hop Pop: Careful where you swung that boy. Now stay back! Darned burrow bugs must have chewed the water pipes!

Anne: My room! My stuff!

Jason: At least we have this pool now...oh wait… my stuff…

Hop Pop then throws both Anne's and Jason's bag on the stairs.

Hop Pop: Don't worry, Anne, Jason. I saved your stuff. Except your bed. And your blankets. And your pillow, pencils, T-shirts, hairbrush.

He was interrupted by Jason.

Jason: Oh thank God!

Jason looked through his bag before pulling out his game boy. He turns it on seeing that it still works.

Jason: Oh thank God!

Anne: Just how long till it's fixed?

Hop Pop: Well, gotta find the leak, then patch it up good.

Sprig: Oh, let me help!

Sprig tried to jump in, but was caught by Hop Pop.

Hop Pop: Oh, no, ya don't! This here's river water. No tellin' what creepy critters are swimmin' around.

Behind the mattress there were a pair of dark black eyes behind it. It gave some kind of clicking noise before submerging back into the water.

Anne: Uh, so where are we gonna sleep?

Hop Pop: Well, the living room ain't no palace, but the couch is comfy.

Jason: Eh, I slept on the couch before. It's actually pretty comfortable. Easy on the back too.

Sprig jumps onto Jason's shoulder.

Sprig: Uh, hello. Anne and Jason can bunk with me in my room. How fun will that be?

Anne: Roommates? Heck yeah!

Jason: Hm, I always have to share a room with my little brother so doing this will be a piece of cake.

But Hip Pop wasn't really for this idea.

Hop Pop: I don't know. Bein' friends is one thing, but roommates? Ya think ya know someone until they're in your space and you're in theirs, and ya can't stand how they whistle all the time, and they complain whenever ya clean your web crusties out. "Yes, I have to do it in our room! It has the best lighting!" My point is--

He then sees that Anne and Sprig we're gone, but Jason was the only one there. They both looked at each other before Jason put a hand to his heart.

Jason: Same bro, same.

He then walked up the stairs to Anne and Sprig.

Hop Pop: Mark my words though. No good will come of this. No good at all.

He then sank back into the water, cutting back to Anne, Sprig, and Jason entering into Sprig's room

Sprig: Here we have it.

Anne: Whoa.

Jason: Your room is looking pretty fine.

Sprig then hopped away making Anne and Jason's bed. Anne in the left part of the room and Jason in the middle.

Anne: Awesome digs, Sprig.

Sprig: Thanks. I'll give you the grand tour. Let's start with the crown jewels.

He pointed to some hand made action figures on the shelf.

Anne: Oh, cool. A doll collection.

Sprig and Jason both laughed, very offended I might add.

Jason: I thought I told you that we MEN don't play with "dolls". I thought I told you this.

Sprig: He's right. These are my action figures of the Great Battle of--

Anne: Incoming!

She hits him in the face with a pillow, knocking him back a little.

Anne: Oh, sorry, dude.

Sprig: What was that?

Anne: What? Haven't you ever had a pillow fight before--

Sprig: Heads up!

Sprig hits her in the face with another pillow.

Anne: Oh, it's on!

They both start hitting each other with pillows.

Sprig: It's fun 'cause it doesn't hurt!

He then got hit in the eye, making it swole.

Sprig: Ow!

hotties swings the pillow and almost drops one of his action figures.

Sprig: Oops! Just gonna move General Bogbreath safely over here.

Anne: Yeah, gotta keep that doll out of harm's way--

She then got hit in the stomach by Sprig.

Sprig: Time in!

They continue their pillow as feathers fly out the pillows. Jason laughs before trying to grab a pillow, but is stopped by Anne who grabs his hand.

Anne: Uh-Uh! There ain't no way you're having a pillow fight. You're banned, remember?

Jason groaned as he crossed his arms.

Jason: I wasn't that ruff.

Anne: Uh-huh keep telling yourself that.

Anne makes him sit down on his bed.

Anne: Now sit there and don't touch a single pillow. Got that?

Jason grumbles to himself, agreeing. Anne just gave him a kiss on the head as he softly smiles. After a glorious pillow fight they were all in their septate beds, starting off night one.

Anne: So, Sprig, Jason, would you rather sweat melted cheese or always smell like skunk?

Sprig: Uh, sweet melted cheese. Frogs don't sweat, so I'd be cheese-free.

Jason: Whoa, cool! I wish I had that.

Anne: Frogs don't sweat? Uh, jealous! Okay, next question. Sprig?

They look over to see that Sprig's already asleep Sprig. Jason looks over to Anne.

Jason: I can still answer some questions.

Anne: Ok, hmm. Oh! If we had kids, would you want a boy or a girl?

Jason looked at Anne emotionless before slowly covering himself.

Jason: Well it looks like it's late. Time to catch some Z's. Night Anne.

Anne chuckles, knowing it'll embarrass the Monado wielder. At midnight, Anne starts to sweat in her sleep.

Anne: Mm! Uh! Melting.

She gets up to open the window, letting in the cool air.

Anne: Ah, better.

She goes back to bed, but her actions were in vain as Sprig was shivering.

Sprig: Uh, freezing.

He closes the windows then goes back to sleep. Anne spots that and glares at him. As this was happening Jason was just trying to have some sleep.

(The Next Day)

Hop Pop and Polly burst into the room.

Hop Pop: Rise and shine, sleepyheads! Ya missed breakfast!

The two were both groaning in swelling in heat and frozen in the cold.

Anne: Go away.

Jason: I like sleeping.

Polly jumps onto Sprig making him awake.

Polly:First time I've ever seen you sleep in so late. What gives?

Sprig: I froze solid in the night and finally just thawed.

The ice on him finally shatters as he stretches out.

Anne: What? It was like a swamp sauna here.

Jason then got up stretching his body.

Jason: I don't know about you two, but I had a great sleep.

He opened his arms wide as a bright light shined behind him, blinding everyone.

Polly: What is that?

Jason: What's what?

As he says this the light fades as the other blink. Anne shakes her head, smiling.

Anne: Classic Jason, but seriously how are you unaffected by everything that happened last night.

Jason: I'm just built differently. Also because I am quite used to changing temperatures.

Anne: Well maybe Sprig just needs another blanket.

Sprig: Or maybe Anne needs fewer blankets.

Anne: Or maybe...

Hop Pop: Y'know, the couch is still free in case there's trouble in paradise.

Sprig: No way. Pssh. It's no trouble.

Anne: Yeah. We're the best roommates in the history of roommates.

Anne/Sprig: Spranneson against the world!

They both then go to leave

Sprig: After you, best roomie.

Anne: Why, thank you, also best roomie.

Hop Pop: Hmm.

Polly: They're gonna eat each other alive.

Jason: Most definitely. Twenty Copper pieces that won't last ten nights.

Polly: I'll take that bet.

Night 2

Anne turns on a lamp light, reads a book and eats her snacks loudly. Sprig looks at her, disgusted. He looks at Jason who has both his headphones on and a face mask. He tries to reach for them, but he just smacks his hand. Sprig faces the wall and uses a pillow to cover his ear.

Night 3

Sprig sleeps while croaking, waking up Anne. Then Sprig swings his tongue to her place. Jason just moves it up a little so it's above his head as he goes back to sleep.

Anne tried reaching for his ear plugs, but was met with the same faith as Sprig.

Night 4

Anne and Sprig take turns to open and close a window. Jason then had enough before grabbing both hand and tongue. He then brings out a miniature fan out of his bag and puts it beside Anne, turning it on before closing the window. He sighs before for the first and last night this will ever be peaceful.

Night 5

Anne turns on the light and Sprig growls

Night 6

Anne and Jason were on their phone when Sprig threw his wet towel that was gonna hit Japson, but he ducked before hitting Anne. She then sees him cleaning his web crusties and feels disgusting. As Jason looks at him in amazement.

Jason: I wanna do it.

Anne almost throws up after just thinking about Jason ever doing it.

Night 10

Anne was coming into the room with her clothes but steps on a roller skate and falls. The rollerskate hits the wall and almost drops Sprig's action figure until he catches it with his tongue. They look each other and laugh awkwardly

Anne: Is that my shirt Jason gave me?

Jason looked up from his phone as he looked at Sprig.

Jason: Honestly, you lookin' good Sprig!

At Anne and Jason's room, Hop Pop is still looking for the leak. Sprig opens the cellar door.

Sprig: Hey, Hop Pop. How much longer, ya think? Tonight?

Hop Pop: Not a chance.

Sprig: Oh, let me help, let me help! You know my underwater sight is better than yours.

He shuts and opens his eyes sideways.

Sprig: Eh? Eh?

Hop Pop: That's a bunch of malarkey! My eyesight's fine! ….Who's that, Sprig? Anyway, don't you have chores to do?

Sprig groans and goes away before Anne opens the basement door.

Anne: Hey, Hop Pop, what's the ETA on things down here? Not that I'm in a hurry to move back in or whatever.

Hop Pop glances up at her as he puts his hand on his hip. Knowing what's going on.

Anne: What? I'm just curious. A girl can't ask about her flooded makeshift bedroom without getting grilled? Sheesh.

She leaves as Jason enters.

Jason: Can I–

Hop Pop: No. You can not swim in this Jason.

Jason: Oh come! It looks so swimmable!

Hop Pop: It may seem like that, but there's dangerous creatures in this.

Jason groans before walking back upstairs, but before he could his eyes glowed white. He has a vision, seeing a black, squirmy creature in the water as it screeches. Jason then comes back to reality, breathing heavily. He looks at Hop Pop, who's quite concerned about the boy.

Hop Pop: You ok, son?

Jason: Yeah I'm fine… just be careful ok.

Hop Pop nods before Jason goes upstairs.

Hop Pop: Boy, still has a lot to go.

It was now night as the roommates were now entering their room. They bumped into each other, grunting. Jason followed behind as he just yawned.

Sprig: Wow, what a long day. Goin' straight to bed, if I, uh, can get there without tripping over all these dirty clothes.

Anne: I think it's your wet towels on the ground that'll get in your way.

Sprig: I can leave my towels on the floor of my room.

Anne: What was that?

Sprig: Oh, nothing, best roomie. Anyways, good night.

Sprig turns to his side to sleep as Jason lays down on his bed. He looks over to Anne who was checking at her phone. Looking at all the pictures that she took with the guys.

Jason: He's right, you know. This is his room. We're just staying here until the basement isn't a pool anymore.

Anne: I know… I just never had a roommate before.

Jason: I get it, it's not that easy. Me and my brother always fought because we thought we needed more room, but we figured that if we were separated we'd miss each other.

Jason thinks for a second before he lowers his head in sadness. Knowing he won't be able to see his brother for a long time.

Anne looked at Sprig and thought of Jason's words.

Anne: Oh. Hey, Sprig, would you rather have a splinter you could never get out or get bit by a giant mosquito once a day forever?

Sprig grunts and shrugs. Anne then grabs a pillow and looms over Sprig.

Anne: Hey, Sprig.

Sprig: What, Anne?

Anne: Pillow fight!

Sprig: No, wait, stop! Aaah!

He jumps up, dodging the pillow, but in his haste he hits his head on the top shelf making his action figure to the ground, shattering into pieces. Jason comes out of his depressed state as he looks at the mess Anne made.

Jason: ….What in god's name happened?! I looked away for a minute!

Anne: Oh, no! Y-Your doll-- Uh, I mean, action figure... Spranson against the world. Right?

Sprig didn't answer as he gave a blank look at Anne.

Sprig:... I have to go to the bathroom.

He exits the room while staring at Anne looking like his whole world has been crushed before him. Which kinda did happen. Anne sighs as she rubs her face.

Anne: How is it still so hot in here!?

Jason then taps on her shoulder before pointing at a firefly heating up the entire room. Anne just narrowed her eyes.

Timeskipu

Sprig enters the flooded room and goes underwater.

Sprig: Where's that darn leak? Come on! Come on!

He dives back underwater as Anne enters the room and sinks underwater as well. Jason then comes down as the two resurface at the top.

Anne: Oh, that leak has got to be around here somewhere.

Sprig: I know, right?

Gasp

Sprig: What are you doing here?

Anne: I was, uh, uh, feeling like a nighttime swim. What are you doing here?

Sprig: Nighttime swim. As well.

Anne and Sprig: You came down here to fix the leak! Yeah, well, so did you!

Sprig: I knew it! You just couldn't wait to move out!

Anne: And you just couldn't wait to get rid of me!

There was then a tentacle wrapping around Anne's leg. Jason spits this as he tries to get the two out of the water.

Jason: Guys! You gotta get out of there now!

His calls were ignored as the two kept arguing.

Anne: If you wanted me gone, you should have just said so-- Aah!

She was dragged down by a river lamprey, screaming!

Jason: Anne!

Jason quickly dives into the water. He spits Anne being drugged deeper down into the water. He quickly swam towards it, grabbed it by it's tail and flung it off Anne. They both resurfaced, coughing water.

Anne: Something's in here!

Jason: I knew it! My vision was right!

Anne: Vision?

Sprig: Hang on. I'm coming.

He was then dragged down by another Lameey as Anne and Jason both screamed for him.

Anne/Jason: Sprig!

They then both caught deep under water being caught underwater. They were losing air and fast. Jason quickly pounds on the mister with his free hands as Anne pushes a lamprey on a ladder and sets themselves free. Sprig hits on another's eyes and swims above. Later, they're surrounded by two lampreys.

Sprig: River lampreys! What are we gonna do?

Anne: They're too fast. We can't fight them underwater.

Jason: Guys, we don't have to worry about that. We're a team. We may have some flaws, but I know we can overcome a bunch of tadpoles. So Sprig...

He gives Sprig a wet pillow.

Jason: You set 'em up...

The Monado then came crashing from upstairs.

Jason: I'll serve em'...

He then gives Anne a pillow.

Jason: You knock 'em down!

Sprig then swims into the water and distracts the two fishes. The two then swam towards him at high speeds, but in doing so they got a pillow to the jaw making them screeching back. The two fishes then make a spinning attack towards Sprig who clenches his jaw. Anne stays at the surface waiting for the opportunity.

Anne: Come on. Come on.

She sees two fishes come out from above the water. Jason smirked as he jumped from the mattress.

Jason: See ya! Backslash!

He swings down at the scaly creatures towards Anne who reared back into a swing. They were both tossed harshly at the wall as they screeched in pain.

Anne: You had enough!

Sprig: There's more where that came from.

Jason: Looks like they can't take the heat.

The lampreys sink underwater and dig a big hole at the bottom and suck all the water out. Hop Pop and Polly then opened the basement door, woken up from their sleep.

Hop Pop: What the heck's going on down here?

Polly: Some of us are trying to sleep!

Sprig, Anne, Jason got into defensive position only realize it is Hop Pop and Polly

Anne: Oh, uh, hi, Hop Pop.

Jason: What's up, how's the night?

Hop Pop: So roommate thing didn't work out, huh?

Jason: Eh, fine for me, bad for these two.

Anne: I just couldn't live with him! The wet towels, the heat, the humidity. The web crusties.

Sprig: The loud snacking. The freezing cold. Lights on at all hours. Guess Spranson really is a bust.

Anne: Yeah.

Jason: Whao, whoa, whoa! Guys just because you guys aren't really good roommates don't mean we ain't all friends.

Hop Pop: Sharing a room doesn't make you friends. Being honest with each other does.In fact, if you ask me, you're better friends now than you were before.

Anne and Sprig smile

Sprig: Of course we are!

Anne: Yes! Spanson is back and better than before!

Jason: When was it ever broken?

They all make their own handshake, then laugh again.

Polly: Aw, how sweet. So where's Anne and Jason gonna sleep then? Not with me. My bucket's for one.

to the couch in the living room, where Anne can open the windows and sleep comfortably. Jason was laying some blankets on the floor when Anne stopped him.

Anne: There is no way I'm letting you sleep on the floor.

Jason: I slept on it before.

Anne narrows her eyes before bringing him to the couch. Where they lay by each other.

Anne: Now this is nice.

Sprig comes with some snacks laying on Anne's stomach.

Sprig: Here you go. Some super-loud snacks you can munch on.

Anne: Aw, thanks, Sprig.

Sprig: No problem. Anything else I can get ya?

Anne: All good. See you in the a.m.

Jason: Don't let the bedbugs bite. Seriously, those things hurt.

Sprig: Okay. Good night.

Anne finally can eat snacks and read a book on her own. Jason slings an arm around her as she looks over, seeing that he's asleep. She chuckles, kissing him on the cheek. But the quiet atmosphere with only the ticking clock noise makes her feel a bit lonely. She sighs, then sees a can with a spring connected to it.

Sprig: So, Anne, would you rather smell like rotten eggs or have hiccups every day for the rest of your life?

Anne: Oh, good one. I think I'd...

The living room then starts to flood.

Anne: Didn't anyone fix the leak!

The End

Speed: And that's that's. Looks like we learned a value of friendship today.

Ryan: And that roommates are terrible.

Speed: Not as terrible as roommate as you.

Ryan: Whatever. Preview time! Anne and Jason are gonna have a fix a wrong that they created. That wrong being a cane. Tune in next time for next chapter...
