REVIEW REPLIES:
Summer: Hi! Yep, summer break starts pretty early around here! I agree, Nico and Hazel are the best fictional siblings ever! Trust me, I know that the Tangled AU thing is a bit… weird. Well, it just goes to show what sort of mad ideas my brain can cook up at 10 o'clock in the night. I'll give it a shot, I love Nico and Bianca fluff, but I haven't been able to find much of it of so far. I hope you enjoy the chapter, and thanks for reviewing!
OwlFace612:1. Thanks! Glad you like it! 2. Trust me, I know. I have very strange ideas when I'm sleep derived. 3. Yep, Poor Hazel, it's kind of crazy that she's handling this better than Nico is (for now….*evil smile*) Anyway, thanks for reviewing!
Nico heaved a sigh of relief, "Good. Because I'm a wizard."
Hazel didn't even look surprised, "Okay." she replied calmly.
Nico gaped at her, his mouth hanging open, "I- I just told you that I'm a literal wizard, and all you have to say is 'okay'? I'm not kidding!" he insisted, hastily pulling his wand out of his pocket and shoving it in her face, "See!"
Hazel gently pushed the wand away from her face, "Relax, brother. I believe you." she assured.
"You do?"
She sent him an unimpressed look, "My mother literally summoned a god. I helped an evil primordial bring back her giant son back to life, and then spent decades in the underworld. An hour ago, I came back to life. Wizards are far from the weirdest things I've ever heard of."
Nico's body sagged in relief, "Of course."
Hazel's eyes widened slightly, "Do you actually know how to use that thing?" she asked warily, staring at the wand, "You won't accidentally curse someone, will you?"
"Curse someone?" Nico repeated indignantly, "I'll have you know that I know exactly what I'm doing." he said, before poking himself in the eye.
"Sorry, sorry!" Hazel winced, "It's just...wizards are bad, right?"
Noticing Nico's baffled expression, she continued hastily, "Not that I think you're evil or anything, it's just... usually when people call me-I mean, someone a witch, it's not really a compliment."
Nico shook his head slightly, "I'm not one of those wizards, who go around cursing people."
"Really? So you don't stir cauldrons, have pet cats, and ride on brooms?" Hazel asked.
"Well, we do," Nico admitted, "I don't have a cat though." Hazel's complexion paled rapidly, "But," he added hastily, "We're not evil! We don't go around cursing people for no good reason! At least, most of us don't!"
"Oh good." Hazel exhaled, "I was a bit worried for a minute there. Um... I have a question, if you don't mind?"
"Go ahead."
"...Do you have one of those creepy witches hats?"
"Yes." Nico grumbled after a minute, "It's in my trunk, at school."
Hazel's eyes lit up, "You go to wizard school?"
Nico smiled proudly, "Yep, it's pretty awesome."
"Can you show me a spell?" Hazel asked shyly.
Nico winced, " Sorry Hazel, magic laws. I can't use magic outside school without getting expelled."
"Oh, okay. That's a bit stern, don't you think?"
"Tell me about it."
Nico sighed, fiddling with his McDonalds Happy Meal toy, "Remember that Roman camp I told you about earlier?" he asked abruptly.
"Yes?"
"Well... I have a feeling that you belong there. I should probably take you to the Wolf House." he mumbled half-heartedly.
Hazel looked slightly alarmed, "Wolf House?" she squeaked.
"I know that you'll be safe there," he muttered, mostly to himself, ignoring Hazel's panicked squeak, "But..."
He looked up to meet Hazel eyes, "You were dead, Hazel. It just feels... wrong, somehow, to bring you back and then leave you alone with a pack of wolves an hour later."
Hazel reached out and squeezed his hand, although her own hand was trembling, "I'll be fine." she insisted, trying to squash down her fear, "The wolves won't eat me, right?"
"Probably."
"Probably?" Hazel squeaked.
Nico decided to take Hazel's terrified squeak as an answer, "You're right. I need to do more research on Lupa first. You're my sister, I can't just leave you to those wolves without doing any research first!" He stopped in his tracks, his eyes widening in horror, "Oh gods, I sound like Artemis."
"Artemis? As in the Greek Goddess?"
Nico ploughed on, "There's a lot of proof that the wolves are friendly, right?" he tried to reassure himself, "I mean, the hundreds of kids at Camp Jupiter found them nice enough."
"Umm..."
"But we're children of the underworld! Bad luck is like, our middle name. It would be just our luck if you end up being that one Roman out of a million who gets eaten!"
"Wait, what?"
"You know what, I'll go talk to Jason in a few days and ask him about Lupa. I heard a rumor that Lupa raised him since he was two. He'd be a pretty good person to ask!"
"Nico!"
Nico yelped, dropping his toy in surprise.
"Sorry!" Hazel whispered, lowering her voice dramatically, "It's just, you're worrying too much! I'll be fine."
Nico sighed, "I know you'll be fine. It's just... I'm worried, that's all. I- I can't have another sister's death on my conscience." he mumbled.
Hazel softened, "You know, if it makes you feel any better, I can wait for a day or two before heading to the Wolf House."
Nico gave her a small smile, "Are you sure? I don't want to force you to slow down or anything."
"Absolutely." Hazel assured, "But... where will I stay?"
Nico suddenly broke out into a mischievous grin, "Remember that wizard school I mentioned?"
Again, a bit of a filler chapter, but from the next chapter onwards, stuff's going to get a lot more interesting...
