Back at headquarters, Dr. Jekyll got to leave the hospital ward. He told Wes he would be back soon to check up on him. He headed to his brother's side. Dr. Jekyll saw some luggage and gadgets sitting in an area. He noticed his brother was talking with several of the assistants.
"Are you going somewhere?" Dr. Jekyll asked.
"Yes," he looked over the paperwork they had.
"May I ask where to?" Dr. Jekyll was getting a bad feeling.
"No, you may not," he nodded to them before staring at his twin brother. He gave him a curt smile. "You're recovered enough, shouldn't we get you back to the island."
"Are-are you going, now?" Dr. Jekyll stammered.
"Brother," Dr. Hyde hooked his arm with his twin's. "The research cannot wait." He led him out of the lab. He took his pass and swiped it on the keypad while typing. He gave it back to his twin. "Now, stop procrastinating. There is work to be done." He swiped his pass and got back into the lab. Dr. Jekyll stood frozen. He's never gone that far in creating space between them. Something was happening. Dr. Jekyll headed over to another division. He asked them several questions. Most were answered by mentioning the town of Perfection and Mixmaster.
He headed back up to Wes. "Hey, there are some things I will need to take care of," he spoke in a hurry. "I'll be fine. Rest up. You've got two more weeks and then they will let you out of here. I've gotten some of your items back but because of your leg you need therapy."
"Two more weeks!" Wes tried to get out of the bed.
Dr. Jekyll ran to stop him. "No, you have to get better."
"But, she can't be by herself," Wes argued. "That place may be a treasure chest for her but she can't handle it alone."
"I know," Dr. Jekyll whispered. "Everything will be fine. Just rest. I got to go." He headed out. He started to get his things ready to visit the town of Perfection. Wes was confused and curious about how the two knew each other. Dr. Jekyll was looking over details when he felt a shadow from behind. He turned around to see Dr. Hyde watching with dubious expression.
"Dearest brother," Dr. Hyde let out a disappointed sigh. "I thought the warning was clear enough. Your research team needs you."
"You're going to see her," Dr. Jekyll tried to stand up to him. "The A.C.T.s were supposed to create a helipad at her site. You allowed them to test at her area and not the assigned area but you forgot about El Blanco, they fried the system. You now must take another route. I had a chance to get there, but you made a mistake, hence why you are still here. It would have been interesting to meet you there in Perfection."
Dr. Hyde cocked his head to the side. "I have your flight booked, luggage is already headed there with more supplies, the only thing missing is you."
"You can't do this," he pleaded. "This is going against protocol."
"Oh, it's done," Dr. Hyde smiled. "Besides, I thought I made it clear, Dr. Frankenstein belongs to me. Her research, her work, her projects, and everything else that she does belongs to me. Not you, it will never be you. And protocol? I write the protocols." He waved his hand and two security guards took either side of his brother. "She just requested several sizes of the collapsible cages. I will not let someone like you keep her from her work. It is a shame that those new devices were fried, you are right, I would have been there by now. Enjoy your flight back to the Galapagos. I booked first class for you. How nice, right? Bye, brother."
"You can't do this!" He raised his voice as he was being hauled away. "She won't like it!"
Dr. Hyde chuckled. He headed back to this lab. He ordered the lift of the quarantine ban that was on the town. He started to prep for his journey there.
At Perfection, Twitchell received word from his boss that the quarantine was lifted. He informed townspeople at Chang's. The townspeople rejoiced and some demanded answers.
"Quarantined for less than twenty-four hours," Burt stood up. "There is something going on that you or the government is not telling us. We should be at least quarantined for a few days more, we should have been thoroughly screened by doctors in hazmat suits, and our good scientists have not said a word about this. There is something big going to happen. I don't know what it is, but this act is the first event."
"Oh, come on Burt!" Twitchell had enough of this town. "I don't get all of the information, besides, so what if it was less than a day. Be thankful we get to leave. It probably means that your son is doing fine!"
"I did like our little rendezvous," Lucas kissed the back of Nancy's hand. Nancy rolled her eyes while trying to get her hand back. Lucas chuckled as he hugged Mindy. "It's good to see you again, kid!" He started to head out the door. "If you want to relax in a nice oasis, I left my address at your home." He gave a wink to Nancy. She smirked. He waved goodbye to the rest.
"Nancy's been holding out on us," Tyler watched him speed away in the sleek muscle car.
Rosalita nodded in agreement. "For an aged rocker, he still has the looks."
"Mmm, yeah he does, I wish I would have gotten his autograph," Jodi sipped on her coffee. "Oh well, maybe next time."
Mindy said her goodbyes to her mom and the rest of the town before leaving. Twitchell left with not much of a word. He wanted to get back to civilization. Heather left Burt with a short conversation. The town was back to its normal population. The next few days were routine for the town of Perfection. There were no tourists. That was the only thing out of place.
"Are we ever going to get compensated?" Tyler started to put salt on his fries. He was having lunch with Jodi and Larry. "It was less than a day but still."
Larry was about to take a bite out of his burger when a reflection blinded him. He set his burger down. "Gah!" He tried to shield himself as the reflection moved away.
Jodi and Tyler looked towards the direction where the gleam was being projected. Tyler rushed to the door as he saw the vehicle driving through the town.
"That is the newest and top of the line Land Rover," Tyler watched it head to the other side of town. "What's it doing in a place like this?" He was standing on deck. He fumbled for his radio. "Burt, I think you were right about that there might be something big going on, over."
"What's that, over?" Burt was in the middle of this routine.
"Land Rover headed to the mad scientist's area, over," Tyler kept an eye on the dust coming from the vehicle.
"Explain, over," Burt tried to see his point of view.
"We have had no tourists since the quarantine, expansive vehicle comes on through, something fishy is going on," Tyler explained. "And we need to keep a close eye on the doctor, over."
"Has anyone seen her lately, over," Burt stopped his vehicle.
"No, over," Tyler answered. He headed back inside. "Has anyone seen our mad scientist?" The two shook their heads in unison.
The Land Rover pulled up next to the Hummer. Rose perked up from her microscope. It wasn't Wes's truck since it was still here. She flinched when she heard the knock upon her door. Rose hesitated before hearing another knock. She headed towards the door. As she opened it wide, she froze on spot as to see the person waiting for her.
"You've blossomed well in the desert," Dr. Hyde flashed a smile. He walked up the stairs to close the distance between them. He wrapped an arm around her waist while shutting the door. "I've missed you." He pulled her closer while planting a kiss upon her hair.
"What are you doing here?" She pulled herself away from his embrace.
"I did say I would see you soon," he strutted past her to view her work area. He glossed over paperwork. Rose sighed while pulling her coat to cover her more. "Working hard, as expected."
"Cut it out," Rose sat back down on her chair. "Your portrayal of being suave lost its charm back in college. I don't need a distraction. You have visited me, now leave." She examined the slide under the microscope. He let out a chuckle as he grabbed her hand to pull her to her feet. "How is C.W.?"
His teasing demeanor slumped into annoyance. "Cartwright is fine. He is back on the island after an accident, made a full recovery."
"That's good to hear, Caswell," she made him sit in her chair. "Now, tell me why are here?" Rose headed to make a cup of tea.
"Isn't it obvious?" Caswell let out a sigh.
"You're depraved," Rose brought out two cups, spoons, and tea bags out of a cupboard. He didn't answer her. "Isn't there someone who can satisfy you at Headquarters?"
"We both know there isn't," he launched out of the chair to grab her from behind. "I know you miss me as well." He whispered into her ear. He pulled her around, about to give her a passionate kiss when she grasped his face with one hand.
She gave him a disgusted look. "Really? You can't pick up the soft rejection from the disgust in my voice, moving the coat over my body, and saying that there is hopefully someone else in the world for you? You can't, that's right." She pushed him away. "Now, why are you really here?
Caswell blew the anger he held out his nose. "Fine. I am here to assist you while your body guard is recovering."
Rose made a sound like a buzzer. "Wrong! You have two more chances before I kick you out."
"I am your superior!" Caswell didn't budge.
Rose shrugged her shoulders. "A terrible one at that. Who comes to see their field agent when they are just slowly getting her footing? Not you, since you hate fieldwork. No, loathe, despise, one of those words."
Caswell sighed. "I am here to help you." Rose crossed her arms. "Fine, I want you to catch bigger creatures than the ones you have sent me and to persuade to be mine."
"Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner, ladies and gentleman," Rose mocked him. "Caswell is here because he is never satisfied with the data he receives, he needs more, and now will not stop persuading me, his twin brother's ex-girlfriend, which persuasion in not consent, neither is pressuring. How long will you be here?"
"Up to a week," Caswell grabbed the mug from her.
Rose showed the annoyance on her face. "Just leave. I, obviously, don't want you here, and again you hate being in the field, so leave."
"Once, I collect my data, I'll leave," Caswell didn't want to argue. "You made an order on larger cages, what did you encounter down there?"
Rose did not want speak about the creature that she just encountered. "I didn't get a chance to see it. However, since the excavation, the ecosystem has been disrupted and with a continuation of disruption, the ecosystem is fighting back the changes. I prefer to let things settle before heading back in."
"Steady and safe as always," he sipped his drink. "Just that it extends the timeline."
Rose turned her head towards the calendar. "According to my progress, I am actually ahead." She turned back towards her desk. She grabbed a stack of files and set it on the counter next to him. "Newest data collection. Have at it."
Wes was sitting on the hospital bed, bored and anxious. A nurse came in with some belongings. The nurse told him not to show anyone these since she got them underhanded. It wasn't until a day later he contacted Rose.
Rose was asleep in the hummer. She did not want to stay under the same roof as him. Rose didn't even flinch when her wrist seismo went off.
El Blanco moving through had scared Caswell. He woke up in a jolt as his wrist seismo went off. "How does she stand working in these conditions. Tsk."
Rose changed in the hummer. She headed back inside the facility. Caswell was putting on his clothes. She did not want to go back into the lab until Wes had gotten back. He made her feel safe, especially down there in that pit of darkness.
Rose got a message from her phone. It was Wes. She hid it from view to read the message. Caswell was still getting ready. Rose felt relief that he was fine but she still harbored guilt for getting him hurt.
Wes saw the reply. "Thank goodness. She's safe." Wes rested his head back on the pillow. He heard footsteps. Wes hid his phone.
Rose placed her phone in her pocket. She started to read over data.
"Good Morning," he gave her a smile. She nodded towards him. "I have a few questions on the data that was given."
"Speak," Rose kept staring at the screen.
The two discussed the recent findings and data.
Wes was informed from the nurse that he would be meeting with an important person today. He was a bit nervous, since the nurse did not say if it was on the military side or the research side. He wanted to text Rose but knew that he may get caught, as the nurse didn't say when he would meet with this person either.
He heard the door open and steps coming towards him. Wes straightened his back. Approaching him was an older man in a white lab coat with two military guards next to him.
"Good day, S.S.," the man waited for the chair to be pulled up next to the bed by one of the guards. He sat down as the guards stood with their backs facing them on either side of the bed. "I am Dr. Moreau. I am in charge of the science and research division here. I want to thank you for guarding Dr. Frankenstein. If there is anything that you need to help better guard her, please don't hesitate to ask. I will make sure it is done."
"I appreciate the notion, sir," Wes treaded lightly. "I will do all that I can."
"Well, right now you cannot, but I have made sure you get the best treatment to get back on your feet," Dr. Moreau smiled.
She blinded me with science! Thomas Dolby's song interrupted their conversation.
"Ah, here she is now," Dr. Moreau took out his phone. "Let's here what she has to say." He placed a finger upon his lips to indicate that Wes should not speak. Dr. Moreau answered the call and placed it on speaker.
Wes glanced between the soldiers, Dr. Moreau, and the phone.
"Dr. Frankenstein, it has been a while," Dr. Moreau smiled. "I am happy to have received your call."
"Dr. Moreau," her pleasant voice filled the room. "I believe you have a dog missing from your facility, he has found its way into my territory. Please come retrieve it, before I cut off his head and send it back to the lab for a rabies test."
The smile and happiness Dr. Moreau had left with a defeated sigh. "My deepest apologies. I was not made aware the Dr. Hyde has left the facility and is in your territory." He turned to speak with one of the guards next to him. "Terminator, get a chopper ready and have Bloodsport, Commando, and Lancelot retrieve Dr. Hyde from Dr. Frankenstein in a timely fashion."
"Yes sir," the guard headed out the door.
Wes was now anxious. Those three code names belonged to a division of top soldiers who were sent off on missions that were usually one-way tickets to death and came back alive, with items that were irretrievable. They were called just to retrieve another doctor from Rose. What was going on?
Dr. Moreau turned back around to see the confusion and worry upon Wes' face. He gave him a comforting smile when another call interrupted their conversation. This time the ringtone was by A Flock of Seagulls I Ran (So Far Away).
"My apologies, I am a busy man," he took the call, this time placing the phone up to his ear. "Dr. Jekyll, how is your arm?" There was a long pause. "That is good to hear. I have heard from Dr. Frankenstein herself. I have sent my best to retrieve him before she sends his head back for testing. Yes, I understand. Thank you for calling me." He set the phone on his lap. "Where were we? Ah yes, I was about to answer your curiosity. Which seems to have grown. I don't know if you have ever read the story about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde but the takeaway is one is an evil alter ego. The doctors with those code names are actually twins. Dr. Jekyll is another amazing scientist in the field while his brother Dr. Hyde is amazing in the facility. This next information should be kept private, I am only speaking about this since this has already affected the project both of you are working on. Dr. Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll were together and had been serious enough that Dr. Jekyll was going to propose. However, Dr. Hyde has ruined that for them with his obsession and greediness. I stepped in by hiring all three of them in the hopes that I could prevent any more unnecessary trouble. I have the trust from Dr. Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll that I would leash Dr. Hyde as well as condition him as an experiment for my behavioral studies with humans that have such a high obsession that it leads to a sociopathic and homicidal mentality." Wes had no words about the information he was given.
Dr. Moreau continued. "You will be starting physical therapy today, in addition to new medicine that will help with the recovery of your leg and strength. Please take care of Dr. Frankenstein." He stood up from his chair. He bid farewell to Wes.
