Mikoto was not having a great time. She's eight months pregnant and she was worried she hasn't seen her husband in two, almost three, months. "Sofia!" She cried.
The Great Mage entered the room. A clinic room since she was worried about her water breaking. Airmid was keeping a tight watch on her and monitoring her condition. Bernadette and Martha were also helping as well if only to give Dea Saint a break. "Mikoto, sweetie, you need not-"
"Just tell me where he is…please…is he gone?"
Sofia knew that she would confront her about this sooner or later. The Grandmother sighed, "I cannot tell you this but I can say something else. I know they both are alive and that they miss you dearly. It's only a matter of time before they come home. I'll grill my grandson for missing this."
The far eastern swordswoman had found out she was pregnant two months into it when she kept throwing up and not being able to eat her favorite foods because of the smell. Isaac was the first to notice and demanded that they go to Airmid to find out.
Sofia noticed that he looked at her at that time to see if she knew. The woman did not answer at the time but smiled when she saw the awed look on his face. "I'll break his hand and let him deal with the twins for nine months…" a small break in her formal character but she was trying to keep her stress down. It was not easy in that regard. "What happened, please Lady Sofia…tell me what happened to my husband…"
The Great Mage hated the pleading look on her face. It crumbled against her defenses and she knew that those kids were going to be spoiled by her. "Are you aware of Divine Relationships?"
This statement made Mikoto forget all about her pain upon seeing the serious if not terrifying look in her Grandmother-in-law had. "I have but I thought Gods couldn't have children."
"Maybe not in Gekai…"
"Go on, Sofia…" Mikoto's breathing evened out, thanks to a technique that Lord Take had taught her just for moments like these.
"It starts off with Ouranos and Gaia…"
As Mikoto listened, she felt like her world had been flipped upside down…
"Was this really a good idea?" One asked another.
"Nope, but we're going to do it anyway," the second replied to the first. Their identical cloaks covered their forms as they snuck out of the Complex. It was easier for them to remain undetected.
Their goal was in reach, Amphisbaena has been reported to have respawned and the Guild noted that it was different than before. Which meant one thing…an irregular, and that was their ticket.
"Isaac, shouldn't we say goodbye?"
"It'll make this harder than it has to be. I know you've grown attached and the fact that I have to explain that we've outstayed our welcome means something, Irene."
"But we could ask Royalty to help," Irene said.
He sighed, "I know but please understand that I'd rather not get anyone else involved." The rumors that the Vlahos have returned spread throughout the city so the twins had to literally cake themselves in magic just to make sure no one saw them.
So, without much else, they snuck into the Dungeon. However, they missed their tail.
Once they had passed through the gates of Babel into the depths did a familiar raccoon stand up, "You were right, they are attempting it."
"Understood, stay hidden. We'll be waiting."
"I'm surprised that these things have this far of a range," Jericho said.
"Bro, if I didn't know any better, these could be carried across the world and still work. As long as we have these, we can speak," the voice replied back.
"Whatever you say Dino but shouldn't you be worried that your finacée of another world is going home?" There was light teasing in that statement. Dino did not respond.
In the Dungeon, the twins were blazing through the floors, leaving marks so the labyrinth doesn't spawn anything. If it did, then it was cut down in an instant. They had to go home. It was nice seeing all of them and the one thing they had taken was burning a hole in their bags.
A picture. Specifically, one they had all gotten done. They prayed to Lady Gaia that she would let them keep it. It would be the only thing they could have taken. Their real bags were stuffed on their person, folded neatly. Anything they got, it would be given to some random adventurer if found.
It hurts to think about.
I know. I just want it to stop, I want to see Mikoto give birth to my children and you can't be an aunt if we're here… Isaac was not letting up on it.
Irene knew that he was laying it on thick but from his own tone, he didn't want to say it. She wouldn't be surprised if he washed his mouth out and apologized to her sincerely later.
They burst past the eighteenth floor with ease. They purposefully avoided all life on that floor. No one in Rivira knew they were even there.
All anyone could have possibly heard was the rustling wind. With Shadow Steps active, their presence mostly went unnoticed. With their white Dia Familia cloaks, they almost looked divine running through the Dungeon.
Unbeknownst to them, someone was looking down at them from Tenkai with a soft smile wishing them well, to go home and be with their real families. This person, this Goddess, had short black hair and forest green eyes…
She wished her official-unofficial Familia good luck before her Mirror closed.
With tears in their eyes, they arrived at the Water Capital. It was still a little jarring to see it in its old style but they pushed onward. The twenty-fifth floor was always a beauty to look at. The crystals that lined the walls often reflected the water's surface and made the room glow in pale blue light.
The sounds of rushing water reached the level seven twins' hearing. They were close to the Grand Waterfall. Upon reaching where the top of it would be, the twins felt a numbness reverberate through their skulls, causing them to freeze.
They withheld their screams as their eyes felt as if they were going to melt from their sockets. Through the pain, Irene stood first before grabbing her brother and pushing on. He followed but he kept his eye shut. I feel it.
Me too.
We're being followed.
A smirk through the pain, Why doesn't that surprise me? They always will. They're worried about us.
The fact was made real as someone stepped out into their path. Axton Wallenstein. "You know, if you're going to make a run for it, you could always ask for help."
Behind them was Ais Wallenstein. "We're friends…are we not?"
A dry chuckle, "Figured you'd try but I did not want to burden you any more than we already have."
Royalty could tell they were going to make this move even before they did. The times they weren't looking, they saw the deep desperation in their eyes. It was something they also struggled with. Ais more than Axton in this case. That doesn't mean that Axton never struggled, no. He struggled from trying to keep Ais from struggling. He'd always be the first to offer his help to her. Ais knew this and knew that if she tried something stupid, then he would follow her.
Bell had taken up that role since she and he got together but that's something else entirely. Isaac, still covering his eye, moved up to Axton. "Move please."
"Not until you let us help," he replied, his voice unnaturally hard. Guardian activated and he knew that they could probably take Amphisbaena with just the two of them but they'd rather not take that chance. "If the you here are as stubborn as I'm led to believe, then I will rival you on that."
Ais spoke up, "We want to help…so please accept that." The girl was slightly pleading with them.
"Normally the trust between adventurers is shaky but I'm about to let you in on a little secret," Axton said. He still hasn't drawn his weapon and neither have the twins. "I trust you. Ever since we first fought…what…almost two months ago? And I was surprised at how you squirmed around my guard like that."
Irene turned to Ais to see if she would refute that. The Sword Princess looked into Irene's eyes, "He's not wrong. I felt as if we always fought together like we never drifted apart. It was…unfamiliar at first and something I haven't experienced before. It was…nice." She smiled at them, and Isaac could see why Bell fell for her.
The twins opened their eyes and let them see the globes that resided within. "We can't stay because they are calling for us. She is calling for us and while we can resist…we don't belong here. Trust me, if somehow we could pass through harmlessly without issue, we would."
"So, please stay out of it," Irene pleaded.
"I get that you want to help us but this is something we have to do ourselves."
"That Monster Rex is level six, you know?" Axton questioned. "And it's irregular."
"Pfft, we beat Goliath at level three with just us two," this information made Royalty widen their eyes. Goliath isn't a pushover but to be taken out by two level threes is something that shouldn't be possible.
The twins walked up to Axton and hugged the boy, "Thank you though, and make sure Lefiya is happy."
Ais followed up and literally jumped on the twins, making them laugh. This was also something their Ais did. "We're still following you no matter what you say."
"Fine but you and your Familia are not to interrupt," Irene relented.
"That may not be possible…"
The quartet then traveled down the main path, slaying monsters, and overall preparing for the fight. Irene prepared for her spell, using Double Cannon to do so. She planned to make this fast.
Running their hands through the small little waterfalls, they walked in silence. The tension was mostly dissolved but it lingered. The fact Royalty was going to lose people they called mentors and maybe even siblings one day hurt. Axton thought about how he wished he could've met them and he did. It still hurts to think that they have to go home. He has no right to make them stay.
Only when they heard a roar that the twins had their weapons out and rushed towards the fight. Amphisbaena was here.
**Wynn Fimbulvetr!**
It was cast twice, their hearing catching both voices of Riveria and Lefiya. "You two knew already."
Axton admitted it without shame, stating that it would be stupid for even people like the twins to attempt this solo. Goliath was another story but this monster had three floors to play with and could attack from many different sides. Since Riveria was level seven and Lefiya level five, that monster was frozen solid.
The twins saw the monster struggling through that which meant this… "Don't tell me it's going to struggle with all its might. We just want to go home dude."
The twin-headed draconian monster was not white like it should be. Instead, it was jet black and its heads were the same. One had red eyes like molten lava. Another had crystal blue eyes like a translucent glacier. Their eyes were focused on the twins.
Looks like it knows its objective.
Yeah, try and stop us, he replied.
The twins pushed forward before leaping off the edge, surprising Royalty at the burst of speed. They were using Ariel to catch up and they weren't fast enough.
Their stats were already at a point to level up but, of course, they were missing the grand feat which got harder and harder. So their Grandmother being that level ten…she mentioned a Spirit Tortoise once. Their stats were already pushing into S—SS for their respective best stats, Isaac for Endurance, and Irene for Magic—and all of them were just waiting for that grand feat. It would make the Hestia, Loki, and Freya Familias all have a level eight.
Still, their shared skill, Tsuinzubatorukurai, was now active; it pushed those stats into SS and SSS easily—because the skill gives them a full two ranks in their basic abilities when fighting with a blood-related twin. Given the fact that they already share three different skills and Isaac literally works his magic off of Irene is another factor entirely.
"By the wishes of the Gods, grant me the power to test my enemies in the fires of purity!" Irene's magic circle flashed bright red and a behemoth of a rock formed behind her before she pushed her staff forward to the still struggling irregular.
*Blazing Meteor!*
"From the ashes, one will rise, show them true colors!"
*Phoenix's Feather!*
No magic circle appeared under Isaac—well above since they were still falling—since he didn't possess Mage. The twin fireballs approached each head before smashing into the twin dragon's heads.
The ice broke but Irene was far from over. Need a boost?
I'll hit you if you're not fast enough, Irene admonished.
Trust me, he said before flipping ahead of Irene and they lined up their feet before pushing away. Now hit it! As they separated, a small sonic boom passed over the Dungeon, making adventurers on the upper floors wonder what the hell just happened.
The gathered Familias watched in slight awe at the feat. It's not something people can just do easily, especially in mid-air.
Irene was using Double Cannon for a spell that she once saw on her Grandmother's status sheet years ago. "..bring the light to strike down my foes!"
An astral magic circle appeared under Irene's feet, the glow reflecting off the walls.
*Starfire Avalanche!*
The Familias present were once more in awe of the magical strength presented before them, even Riveria, and especially Lefiya. Small twinkles in the ceiling were the only warning as the Monster Rex broke free of the ice and tried to escape but it was too late as the spell effect took hold.
The barrage began and struck with the power of the stars, as the spell suggested. Irene doesn't like using spells that her Grandmother uses as she wants to be unique…but this was no place for that.
Isaac, having been pushed towards the monster, easily readied his swords and let out a cry of anger and bloodlust. "You're the only thing between us and getting home. As her chosen, we will bring you down!" Isaac brought his Spatha down one neck of the Dragon while his Ninjaken down the other. Isaac pulled out his Ninjaken to then stab it in the same head as the Spatha and swung himself around. The scales were tough but the resistance on the blades was noticeable. The draconian monster roared in pain before it was pelted with the power of the stars.
"You can jump in any time, you know?!" Isaac shouted jokingly as he dodged a Starfall projectile.
Tiona, Bete, and Gareth easily took the chance and took the red-eyed dragon head while Royalty and Bell took the other head. Finn was watching in the back, giving orders while Lili was also giving orders when she saw something that Finn did not. Tione was on guard—not that she needed to be—but she wanted to be close to the Captain. Haruhime was also there, silently chanting.
As for the rest of the Hestia Familia, Mikoto and Welf were watching for the Raider Fish, Mermen, and even Devil Mosquitos. Other various second-class adventurers were there as well.
The red-headed smith carried an unbreakable magic sword, which was recently made and therefore had no time to name it. It was for emergencies only. He still won't make them unless they can fully prove that they won't go power-hungry or crazy with it. The core five are the only ones who get them.
Jericho and Dino were also there with them, helping keep crowd control. "Damn they fight well together," Jericho said as Dino hit a palm strike on a Merman Leader, watching its internal organ explode from within. The magic stone dropped a second later.
"Now I see why I fell for her, and damn did the me of their world make a good choice," Dino said, striking down a small pack of Crystaroth Urchins moments later.
Amphisbaena's crimson head sucked in a breath, getting Finn to shout a small retreat as this crimson mist will dispel magic energy in the immediate area of effect. That being itself. So, if it was suffering any effects, it would be nullified.
The left head also sucked in a breath and identified the falling Irene as its target.
Isaac gritted his teeth, it has a lock on you.
I know, it's bait. I have something new, even something that is within Bronze Key's domain. Trust me.
Always, he responded, striking down a loose Raider Fish with a flick of his wrist blade. Amphisbaena's left head blew its fire towards Irene but her shout overtook the sound.
*Puppeteer!*
Irene was then switched with a Merman and she was in the water near Isaac. He wasted no time before leaping over the river's rapids before him and grabbing her outstretched hand and throwing her onto the shoreline. He just barely made it over the bank as a small wave of air passed over him to see Ais skewer a leaping Urchin. He spared a nod as Axton leaped over the both of them to strike at the neck of the blue head.
At that moment, Haruhime had finished chanting her first magic, Kokonoe. As such, she sprouted nine tails, looking like a kitsune of legend. The first time she used this, Bell had thoroughly complimented her and she almost fainted from the genuine praise. That was how her hero was.
More importantly, she quickly changed the spell that was needed. "Grow. That power and that vessel. Breadth of wealth and breadth of wishes. Until the bell tolls, bring forth glory and illusion. -Grow. Confine divine offerings within this body. This golden light bestowed from above. Into the hammer and into the ground, may it bestow good fortune upon you. -Grow."
*Uchide no Kozuchi!*
Eight of her nine tails went out and eight different pillars of light fell upon Isaac, Irene, Ais, Axton, Tiona, Gareth, Lefiya, and Bete. She held onto the last one, something told her to. Even after becoming level two, and acquiring Mage, she still did not acquire Spirit Healing, and it would be helpful but the likelihood of actually acquiring it was slim to none. So it still drained her immensely. Lili supported the Renard and gave her a dual high potion to recover. The eastern beauty accepted without hesitation.
The feeling of being level boosted never got easier as the sudden rush of power made even the best adventurers tingle and desire more. Fortunately, those affected did restrain themselves. They did not have to worry yet.
Amphisbaena did not like this so…it reacted. It roared, causing anyone close to it to feel an emotion that all adventurers knew well. Fear. Finn's alias of Braver is a perfect example. To be brave is not to conquer fear but to control one's fear. He does it better than most. The second-class adventurers stumbled and were almost overwhelmed but Welf struck with his magic sword, sending a wave of fire over the area.
Of course, none of the boosted adventurers stood idle. They all attacked from various angles, making deeper and deeper cuts on the skin.
"Royalty, I'm going to cast a spell that should work very well with your winds," Irene said. "So, protection is number one on the priority list."
Royalty nodded, not needing to speak as they often do not during battle. Alongside Isaac, the trio all formed a botched triangle to cover Amphisbaena's attacks. Tiona and Bete each kicked their heads to distract it for the time being. Bell, meanwhile was doing what he does best, being a hero.
His movements showed that he would not falter in the face of battle. No. He showed that even if he was struck down, he would persevere. Argonaut was charging for the time being and he was saving it for the right moment. Haruhime still had one tail, and she knew exactly who to use it on.
Irene began to cast her spell and her voice rang out like a Siren's hymn. "I call upon the Gods of the wind, Boreas of the North, Notus of the South, Zephyrus of the West, and Eurus of the East. Come forth and bless thy vessel with the power to shred our opposition. Leave them weak and defenseless." The magic circle was multicolored in such a way that even Amphisbaena paused.
Irene opened her eyes and grinned ferally, a look that Isaac also sported.
*Aeolus' Frenzy.*
A large cyclone appeared but there was something special about it. A unique characteristic. It was armor-stripping. Royalty felt the wind on a much deeper level than everyone else, being demi-spirits.
Ariel danced across their bodies and it demanded that they go forward. So, they did. They easily took control of the flow of the wind and guided it, per se, towards the irregular Monster Rex. The wind made contact with the draconian scales and tore them to pieces, leaving the fleshy undertone of the Monster Rex.
Bell then received Haruhime's last golden tail and Argonaut was now enchanted to a level eight's power. He held Hestia Knife in one hand and he pointed his free hand down at it.
*Firebolt.*
The knife itself grew in size, forming a light that looked as long as Isaac's Spatha. An Argonaut-infused Firebolt into his knife was certainly powerful and he was about to show just how powerful it really was. Running forward at blurring speeds, he leaped from the ground up, staring the dragon heads in the eye before screaming, "ARGO VESTTAAA!"
The sword slashed right in the middle of the beast and it roared in pain. Oh, it roared indeed. The damn thing roared as its blood spilled across the floor, coating some unlucky adventurers…standing at the other end of the fight. The mages were unharmed. Riveria was chanting her version of protection, Veil Breath. Lefiya was absorbed in the sight of a wonderful fight but kept her attention on her comrades, healing them as needed. She had seen fights but this was one she would later tell her children. She saw a lot and one of those things was a hero. Multiple heroes.
Bell truly felt like a hero, even if his attack did not kill but severely wounded it. It was one of those moments that he felt like the embodiment of a true hero.
However, that was short-lived as the crimson mist appeared again. Isaac held his hand out and fired off a spell of his own.
*Fusion: Feather Fissure.*
Ignoring alliteration, the Swift-Strike fusion chant was powerful in its own right. The rocks from Fissure each gained a sharp edge made of fire from Phoenix's Feather, and then launched at the open wound, aiming to further open the wound Bell created.
Still, the beast roared; its breath interrupted.
Irene grit her teeth, even after drinking a Mind potion. The armor is stripped, it's bleeding, and it's still in the water.
Wait, it's still in the water…
The damn boss hasn't moved from the water because it'll lose some of its power from not being in it.
I see where you're going with this, "Get clear, now!" The force of Isaac's voice boomed in the cavern. Bell scrambled away up to where Finn was. Royalty rushed to where Isaac was, helping him fight off more of Amphisbaena's minions.
Irene's robes floated up, revealing the weapons she was carrying but the quarterstaff in her hands was the true weapon of a mage. The runes glowed a faint blue with a smidge of yellow. The weapon already knew the spell and fought to enhance it.
"Let the spirits hear my call. I open my heart and soul to those who still linger. Shine down onto this vessel, grant me the power needed to smite my enemies. Please, allow me this request, Lord of Thunder. Bless me with the smiting spirit."
Tiona was squealing at seeing this spell again. Gareth had backed them up and Bete's werewolf instincts said to never cross paths with her ever. In this life or the next.
*Insurmountable Spark.*
This time, the lightning bolt was bigger than the one previous. She poured all her Mind into that, just leaving enough to be conscious. The bolt struck and it channeled into the water, making any monster in it disintegrate, the magic stones too. The power of an effective upper level seven—a high eight with all the bonuses—mage was extraordinary.
The irregular Amphisbaena roared in agony before it started to fade to ash. Cheers started to spring up and they continued to rise as the monster faded from existence, leaving behind its drop items.
One such item was different from the rest. A peculiar magic stone, not like the Violas but its colors were not normal. This one was redder in nature, almost like a reversed-colored magic stone. The male quarter elf scooped it up before rushing over to his sister, scooping her up, and pouring praise on her. Royalty followed and the quarter elf scooped them up in a hug, which was reciprocated easily. However, they felt the emotion that was lingering.
Sadness.
Sadness because their goal was now complete. They could go home now…
The core members of the Familias all gathered up as the supporters began their work. It was hard-fought and the Dungeon itself took a bit of damage but some of it was repaired before their very eyes. "Well done."
All level fives—except Lefiya—fainted, forcibly. Thankfully, no one fell into the water. The voice was familiar and thanks to their eyes reacting, everyone knew exactly who.
Similar to her appearance to the twins prior, she was unaccompanied. The twins breathed out, ""Lady Gaia.""
The name prompted every adventurer still conscious and moving to back up…except the twins.
"I hardly believed it when I felt you both in my domain. I had no warning from this and I desired nothing except making sure you return home. Thank you, brave adventurers, for defeating that monstrosity. It fell out of my control and could have grown into something much worse." The woman spoke, still in the same wispy white dress. Her face was once more blurred to everyone.
"Why did you want us here?" Irene whispered because that was all she could manage at the moment.
A giggle, "Is that hard to believe that I wanted to see what my champions looked like from another dimension?"
"Yes," Isaac deadpanned.
Gaia turned towards Royalty, "I'm relieved to see that you two survived, children of Aria." The two stiffened. Not they could be blamed. "Rest assured that Aria still lives and is waiting for you. You will reunite with her."
That sentence gave them hope and they bowed to the Primordial Goddess. They didn't speak for fear of saying something wrong. Gaia made no comment.
Finn, Riveria, Gareth, and Bell all wondered how this was going to go. Tiona, Tione, and Bete were surprised at the 'children of Aria' comment. Tiona looked at Royalty with questioning looks. She'd have to search her stories later with Argo-kun. He looked to have the same look of wonder.
"Now, my champions," she said, almost looming over the twins. Her hands reached out and caressed their cheeks. "You've been away from home long enough. Isaac Vlahos."
"Yes, Lady Gaia?" His voice was softer than previously.
"You must rush home as soon as you return. She is ready."
That news hit him hard. "Please send us back…I can't miss that…" Tears plugged the soon-to-be father's eyes. He couldn't—wouldn't—miss that. "I promised."
Gaia giggled again, "Fret not, with the block now cleared…" she snapped her fingers and a wormhole, similar to how they arrived, opened. "Go, my champions." The magic stone in Isaac's hands disappeared…no, it shot over to where the portal formed.
The Vlahos twins stepped forward before they paused. Gaia allowed them to stop and watched fondly as they embraced each and every person there, a teary goodbye to each one. The werewolf seemed the most bothered but he couldn't lie to her. He would miss them too.
For the Wallenstein siblings, it hit them harder. They didn't have a fully sound reason but it felt like they were losing family. "Think of us…"
"Oh, we won't forget this," Axton said, looking to Lady Gaia, "Right?"
"No, I cannot tamper with memories but those asleep will remember the fight. However, they will not be allowed to speak of my champions."
Axton grimaced at the headache before turning to them again. "It was nice knowing you both. Now do me a favor."
"Hmm?" Irene mumbled.
"Go home, be a father, be a mother, and just live your lives, can you do that?"
Smirks appeared on the Vlahos twins' faces, ""Always…""
The twins turned and walked toward the portal, accomplished but their hearts heavy. "Be strong, my champions."
That was the last thing they heard before everything went white.
Sofia headed down to the Water Capital once more, hoping beyond hope that they would come back. Mikoto was beginning labor and Dino was at wit's end. She hid her tears so that no one could see a level ten cry.
She knows that she should be there but she could also run back in minutes, making the fastest in the city look slow.
Upon entering the Capital, she felt the strange energy again. She's felt it all the time now, noticing it first thing. However, she felt that energy again…moving. Her eyes widened and she made haste down the Capital, taking a small shortcut before two blurs streaked past her.
She only caught one color: White.
The same white as the cloaks of a certain familia five years ago. Sofia turned and followed. She caught up easily and almost stopped in disbelief. She saw one carry the other with determination and fortitude. She called out, partially in desperation and relief, "Isaac! Irene!"
To her relief, he responded, "Sorry, can't talk, I'll fill you in later! Right now, I have a very pregnant wife in labor, don't ask how I know!"
He picked up speed and Sofia followed all the way to the surface and a white streak went into the clinic.
Sofia entered a second later to see her granddaughter sitting in a chair looking tuckered out. She turned to her, her posture perking up, "We have so much to tell you over these past threeish months…"
The loaded statement was terrifying in its own right. However, there was something more important now.
Inside a hospital room, a woman was crying and not for the reason one would think, "He said he would be here!"
"I know Mrs. Vlahos…" Airmid's voice carried peacefully in the room. Dea Saint was a Doctor as well as a healer. This fell under that, and with the midwife there, a volunteer, non-blessed nonetheless, it made her job easier. "Get ready to push." A commotion was heard outside the room before it burst open. "I'm sorry but you cannot be in-"
In front of her was a very exhausted, hopeful, and panting Isaac Vlahos. "I…You…I'm not leaving…"
"Isaac?!" Mikoto's voice screamed as she saw him. "You came…"
"I will…do anything to…make it up…please…" he said in a mere whisper before dragging himself over to her beside, clutching her hand, moving her hair out of her face, whispering apologies as he cried.
She started to crush his hand but he didn't react a bit, even if she was crushing his bones, he continued to plead and apologize, saying that he will do anything to make up for not being there. Airmid heard his bones shift and he was more worried about his wife.
Good. He better be. He'll be an excellent father, Airmid thought as she checked again. With a look to the midwife, she nodded. "Ready?"
"Just get them out!" Mikoto whined.
"Push!"
Thus began the process of childbirth.
Hours later, the sounds of crying could be heard outside the room to every adventurer there. Sofia had gained the story out of Irene, speaking soft enough so that only she could hear.
Everyone else had shown up, greeting Irene in a variety of ways, and promised to tell them later when he was present.
Haruhime and Bell were upfront the most eager. Loki and Hestia were close behind, feeling something different about them. Riveria stood close to her former teacher. The Amazon sisters wanted to jump Irene and demand to never make them worry about her. Her whole Mystic Brigade was outside and waiting for their teacher to return.
Dino rushed in and swiftly wrapped Irene into an embrace before kissing her. She returned the passion as much as she was able to, someone eventually cleared their throat making them separate with a blush. She mumbled, "Melin le, Dino." before someone put her in a comfortable embrace.
That someone was Ais, who easily sat next to Irene, hugging the girl close. This Ais matured so much, and hopefully that Ais will too… she thought, smiling softly while the exhaustion was catching up with her. "I really missed you guys…" an incoherent murmur but the sentiment was shared.
Welf was congratulating them for the safe return, even if the burning curiosity was as bright as his passion for smithing or his love for Hephaestus.
Finn and Gareth gave the tired Irene a nod. She would have a lot to explain but for now, they would allow her to rest and recover. Something happened but right now, there was a miracle happening.
Multiple others were outside the clinic, hearing that the Sword and Shield of Orario returned. They knew that his wife was pregnant, and today must be the day.
The door opened to see Isaac stumble out of it, looking up, smiling wide again. Irene noted that he hasn't smiled like this since Dia. "So?"
"Miko is asleep with both of them on her chest…" He took note of everyone's excitement and anticipation, "Twin girls…and it gets better…" he said, exhaustion lacing his voice. "…due to a skill of mine and Mikoto's…" a story for another day judging by the flush on his face, "…they are both elves, not High Elves…but that doesn't matter. I'll love them all the same. The Vlahos line continues with two beautiful baby girls. Now, Irene…looks like you better start catching up."
A subtle jab at her, and her half-hearted retort was sloppy but the idea did come to mind as she looked at Dino with an intense look that screamed 'better get prepared' and he will be.
Sofia's staff felt something more to that and she smiled for two reasons. "What are their names?"
His smile faltered, twitching for a second before pride entered his voice. That smile got wider as he said them both. Irene gasped and covered her mouth, knowing one of those names was important to them. It was always going to be hers…
She would have been honored…
Up in Tenkai, a Goddess squealed in delight, sending her wishes down to them. She was so happy and while she wished she could be there, she'll accept this for now.
"Now…we have quite the tale of where the hell we've been for the past couple months but…is it too much to ask for a few days so I can spend time with my wife and daughters? And Irene with her new nieces?" Isaac said as Airmid exited the doors. "Grandma, will you please inform Lord Ouranos about us, we'll have to explain to him as well…" The picture would be shown later and the reactions may surprise you.
They were all over the place.
"Done, now Airmid?"
A smile graced the Doctor's face, "I'm pleased to say that they are both completely healthy and on a fast track to being able to go home with you in the coming days."
Isaac turned to Airmid, bowing deeply, "Thank you…"
"Don't thank me for doing my job…" Airmid stated gesturing for Isaac to stand up before turning to everyone else, "Now, could the twins follow me? You've been gone for two months…"
The twins accepted that and followed the Doctor. Sofia plopped into the vacant chair and breathed in and out. "They're finally home…thank you…Lady Gaia."
There may not have been a response but there was a very content Primordial Goddess somewhere in the Dungeon.
...
A little ambiguous for the ending but I had to end it sometime...
Just like that, we're done! I hope you enjoyed. You may see some of these elements in the future because you basically got an insight to some of my plans. I withheld the names because I'm saving it for the main series.
