Chapter 13 - Porcelain Skin, Glass Heart
~X~
Harper Bellrose was once again at the police station, it seemed like the police wanted to do a thorough investigation into Vicki once more and questioned even her former coworkers and people they knew dealt drugs in the area. The teenager was losing her mind, she really couldn't believe what was happening in her life at the moment. So much sorrow, so much violence and many disappearances in the little town of Mystic Falls.
Because at the same time as it is possible to have her first ever romantic relationship with her crush, Matt Donovan, his sister was once again missing and the whole entire world had supernatural beings in it. She was probably a supernatural being. And she was totally freaking out about everything. She felt scared and alone and no matter how much she wished that she could just turn to Tyler and ask, 'what are we going to do now?'. She knew that she couldn't, because this was her crisis and she had to start relying on herself for answers.
"Have you talked to Vicki lately?" The scheriff asked Harper.
"Not really, last time we really talked was my last shift at the grill. But that was weeks ago" Harper said, ignoring the feeling in her stomach. She felt ill lying about the vampire incident.
"You haven't had any communication with her since then?"
"No," Harper stated, slowly nodding and biting her lips.
What was Harper going to do? She needed to be as normal as she could be in this situation. To be frank, she wasn't Stefan Salvatore's friend nor his brother's. As long as she kept away from them everything would be fine. Vicki was a vampire, she didn't even know what vampires do. Do they sleep in coffins? Do they hate garlic?
Matt had been totally destroyed, Harper and Tyler had tried to be there for him. He had really appreciated them, not that he allowed any type of charity from them. But having his friends by his side after everything that had happened in his life was much needed. Harper had told the sheriff everything she could, and hoped that Vicki found her way home to her family once again.

It was a chilly night at the Grill, Harper and Tyler sat at a booth playing some cards. Harper was winning big, as fries and other snacks were the currency for their made up blackjack. Taking turns being the house and the player.
"This is some bullshit" Tyler huffed as he lost again, the house got a perfect 21 to his 17. Making Harper win another basket of onion rings.
"Such a sore loser" Harper giggled as she gathered up the cards to once again shuffle. "Now pay up!"
"Hey guys!" Matt looked haggard as he walked up to their table, the music was blasting as he sat down next to Tyler.
"Dude, you need to jump into this. I'm almost out of cash" Tyler joked as he shook his head, he had a VISA card full of that month's allowance.
"What's the bet?" Matt asked as he studied Harper's smiling face. She looked way too young to be a dealer, but nonetheless she shuffled the deck like a pro.
"That guy owes me a basket of onion rings, but the next bet would be.. I don't know Ty?" Harper looked at Tyler who shrugged.
"You and me, the next loser out of three, buys the table a round of beer?" Tyler stated.
"Deal" Matt nodded. The game went fast, with Matt losing hard.
"You are even worse than me dude," Tyler said and laughed, but Matt just snickered and continued to look at Harper like he had all of his three rounds. She was blushing, and he couldn't help but to hope that he was the one that made her bite her lips.
"Pay up" She said and gathered up the cards again. Tyler slapped his shoulder to get him moving.
"Yeah, yeah.. chill" He huffed and stood up, leaving them to themselves again.
"Did you do that on purpose?" Tyler asked once Matt was out of earshot, in the corner of his eyes Tyler could see Stefan catching up to Matt to talk.
"What?" Harper asked innocently.
"The thing with the lips and the look" Tyler said pointing at her face, Harper turned red as a tomato.
"I don't have a look!" She hissed and looked over her shoulder to watch for Matt.
"You do! It's total bedroom eyes" He stated and slumped back in the booth. Harper looked at him like a gaping fish.
"I- I don't-"
"You do! Which is okay, just wear protection-" Tyler snickered.
"Tyler! Shut up" Harper buried her face in her hands. She felt so humiliated. Matt was soon back with their drinks and the night flowed on. Caroline eventually joined them, drink after drink made her emotional.
"I will buy you some coffee," Harper said and put a hand on her blonde friend's shoulder.
"You are the best Harper!" Caroline shouted after her. Harper waved weaky to her friend and moved towards the bar. Suddenly she bumped shoulders with a girl, and in a flash Harper had her hand around the girl's bicep.
"Oh gosh, sorry!" The girl said, but Harper's eyes were milky white and her gaze unmoving from her.
"Don't drink anything, don't trust Damon.. you need to leave, now" Harper stated with a firm raspy voice. The girl, not scared by the girl one bit. Immediately knew she had been saved from her demise. One always trusts a seer, if you were lucky to find one. The girl, Lexi, disappeared in a flash out of the bar and into the night. From the safety of the shadows from the park across the street, she could see several police cars going down the road and parked outside the grill. She made sure to thank the girl, whomever she was, later.
Returning to the table with coffee, the gang decided to get Caroline home together. But stepping outside the restaurant made them all stop.
"What happened, is she okay?" The sheriff asked and approached them, Tyler holding Caroline was sweating. He had been drinking the most, they would all be screwed if they were found out.
"Like you care," Caroline mumbled into Tyler's shoulder. The jock carried the blonde while Harper held her purse.
"She's drunk?" Lizzy asked, eyebrow raised.
"As a skunk" Caroline stated, which made the three of them close their eyes and sigh. Fuck.
"Are they serving you in there?" The sheriff hissed, none of the teenagers would answer.
"Umm.." Tyler began in panic, fearing that he needed to tell her something as to not get his ass handed to him later by Richard.
"We will take her home, it's on our way" Harper jumped in, letting the conversation turn back to the bigger picture at hand. Caroline.
"I will drive, I haven't been drinking" Matt sighed, which was the most true. He had only had one beer in there while Tyler and Harper had shared some drinks with Caroline. The sheriff scanned them.
"I would appreciate that guys, thank you" She finally said, making all of them breathe a little easier. "You and I will discuss this later," Lizzy then said to her daughter.
"Can't wait"
Later Damon had to take an innocent homeless man and make him a vampire in panic to have something to deliver to the sheriff. He wasn't happy, and he was sure there was a reason as to why Lexi had escaped. Damon promised that whenever he would find out what or who, they would pay for the inconvenience.
Meanwhile, Tyler slept over at Caroline's. While Harper was driven home by her prince charming.

It had been a normal day at school, Harper had been battling her heachaches as they came and went. Each one erratic and odd. Some mere images flashing in front of her, others long and painful, which showed her short periods of events she neither knew were the future or the past. Tyler had been monitoring her closely without her knowing, seeing as her eyes would nowadays go completely white and she would mumble, almost like sleep talking. She had no idea of how to control it.
They both still didn't know the reason for their memories, and that they were completely intact from being 'erased'. Not even the books her grandmother had sent over told her anything about vampires. It was diaries, several of them, but none told her anything about the supernatural.
"Good morning everyone" The new history teacher strode in with false confidence, smiling awkwardly to the group as they all hurried to sit down. Harper sat at her new seat at the back of the class, as far away from Elena Gilbert and her gang as possible. Including Matt.
"Alaric Saltzman, it's a mouthful, I know" Harper zoned out as the new guy nervously rambled on, her focus on her biology paper due next week was much pressing anyways. The class went by anyway, and Alaric, or 'Ric' as he preferred. Kept talking about his name and German history.
An hour later the bell rang, and Harper was almost done with her paper. All she now needed to do was to type it out on her laptop and hand in it. She smiled to herself as she packed up.
"Ms.. Ms. Bellrose? Yes, Bellrose, please stay back a while" Some snickered as they walked past her, mostly those seeing her work on other stuff rather than the teacher. Matt smiled and patted her shoulder to comfort her, but that didn't help at all.
"Yes?" Harper sighed, she knew the talk that was coming.
"I looked at your records from Mr. Tanner, is there something you need extra help with during class? Or maybe we should look into a tutor for you?" He asked, looking at her like she was too slow to even get what he was talking about. Harper's eyebrows furrowed, the tiny girl looked at her new teacher in disbelief.
"No, I'm fine. During the period of multiple substitute teachers I got the hang of the subject, and I have my brother to help me as well" Harper said and looked away from him. Ric looked at her with eyes of pity.
"Brother?" His eyes furrowed. " I thought you lived in foster care?" He stated and touched the file on his desk. It was probably her school file that the principal had given him for this meeting.
"I will get better in class," Harper snapped and looked into his eyes. Tired of the conversation, she walked out the classroom and headed for the exit. She was done for today, and would go home to finish the rest of her homework.

Harper blushed and hurried to the football field.

Night had fallen at the Lockwood Manor, Harper sat beside him while watching tv. But the girl was just staring at her phone the entire time. Sometimes it buzzed, at which Harper would smile and quickly type something before going back to waiting. Tyler wanted to ask, but at the same time felt like he already knew what it was about. From time to time he would look at his own phone, wondering if Caroline would text. It didn't go well at school today between them. Both teenagers flinched when the front door opened and slammed shut down the hall, a very frustrated Richard walked into the livingroom and towards his drinking cabinet.
"Dad? What's wrong" Tyler asked and stood up. But Richard wasn't listening, he was just walking back and forwards beside them, whiskey in hand. Fuming.
"Dad!"
"What?! It doesn't matter to you Tyler. I'm just a bit mad from work" Richard said and continued to walk to calm himself down.
"Well could you do it somewhere else, you are scaring Harper" Tyler stated and pointed to the girl, shaking while looking in between them. Her phone had buzzed again, but she wasn't looking anymore.
"Does it look like I care for her? Huh? Does it look like I care about the orphans feelings?!" Richard shouted out, making Tyler mad as hell.
"Do not talk to her like that! She is part of the family too" Tyler shouted, getting aggressive towards his father.
"She will never be! You hear me, that freak is not a Lockwood!" Richards burst out. The glass in his hand was thrown on a side table, whiskey spilling everywhere.
"Shut up! You piece of shit" Tyler was ready to get into a fist fight with his father, and everything seemed to slow down. Harper, quick on her feet, raced to stand between them. The impact of Richard's fist against her cheek was hard. That blow would've probably ended up on Tyler's shoulder, but she had blocked it.
"Harper!" Tyler caught his sister as she was about to hit the floor. Carol came running in, and gasped at the situation.
"R-Richard.."
"We will say nothing of this, she was stupid to come between me and my son. It's her own fault" The man stated and walked out of the room. Carol ran towards her children, calling 911 in the process. She met eyes with Tyler, who was ready to tell the truth about Richard. But Carol shook her head, and pleaded with her eyes to handle the situation and so Tyler let her. The only important thing was Harper.
