Chapter 25 - Dance Monkey
~X~
William had been waiting for her call for hours. Harper had missed their typical time to talk, and now he started to get worried. What was going on? Something had happened back home, and she wasn't telling him anything about it. The latest news he had heard was that her father was in town, but silence thereafter.
The vampire was currently in London, 'renting' a flat that he in no other way, shape or form would be able to afford. He had found a small community of supernaturals here, of all races. And found that the European communities as a whole were way more peaceful than the one back in the states.
The week before he landed in England he had been in Fiji, soaking up the paradise he never knew of before. He chuckled quietly to himself and looked down on the list that Harper had given him. 1000 things to do and places to visit as an immortal. Her shy, snarky attitude shone through the text. And he had thus far only done around 10. He didn't miss Mystic Falls at all, and wished that both Harper and Tyler were with him on his travels instead.
He roused from his thoughts as his laptop called out to him, it was Harper using skype. Finally,
"Hi William!" Her sweet voice made him automatically smile, Harper looked happy. Dressed to impress in an emerald green off the shoulders dress, her somewhat shoulder length hair lightly curled, hiding a string of pearls around her neck and her lips were dark.
"Woah, Harper.. you are beautiful" William said, studying her features more with his keen eyes.
"Thanks, tonight is the annual masquerade! This is my mask" She said with a shy smile and showed off her black lace mask with small white flowers embroidered around the edges.
"Gorgeous! I'm sorry I couldn't be there with you. How are things otherwise?" He asked as Harper carefully placed the mask down beside her on the desk. She let out a sigh, and William felt even worse.
"Well, I'm part werewolf to start of-"
"What?!" William said so loud that a banging was heard on his wall behind him. Stupid neighbors.
"Do you have time? This is a long ride" Harper giggled as William furiously nodded. With a smile, she started to retell everything that had happened since the last time they spoke.

After sundown
The night was so much fun, Harper had danced with both Mason and her father. Tyler was nowhere to be seen near the general party area. She guessed that he was still holed up in his father's study, where he had been most days to think and reflect. Not even Caroline could pull him out of there.
"What are you thinking about darling?" Magnus asked as he gave her a tiny platter with some strawberries and other fruits stolen from the buffé table.
"Oh nothing" She answered at the same time as inhaling as many strawberries and mango slices as she could muster. "Just wish Tyler was out here with us"
"Give him time Harper, he has a lot on his mind right now" He stated and nibbled on some blueberries, trying not to stain his crisp white shirt.
"Can't you help him? As alpha I mean?"
"It doesn't really work that way, he hasn't activated his curse and we hope that he never will. And even still, you choose to follow an alpha, he doesn't have too. I can't order him around to feel better" Magnus stated, trying to think back to his roots as much as he could. Trying to relate to when he was a teenager with a lot of rage in both mind and body. He would always be there for his daughter's brother. His pack member, but sometimes distance was the best cure.
"I understand," Harper said before turning back to once more glance at the house.

Mason growled as he spotted Katherine. He knew her smell, a mixture of spice and sweet that made it easy to see a difference between her and Elena. She stood in the hallway, smirking at her ex-lover Stefan.
He groaned, of course the whole Elena squad would be here tonight. Probably ruin the whole event like the pageant. He needed to keep the vampires away from Harper at all costs, he was sure that they weren't happy about her rescuing him from Damon's torture.
Suddenly the bitch looked his way with a surprised frown. Mason guessed she wasn't all that happy about the breakup voicemail he had given her, which included several curse words and other nasty lines over their ruined relationship.
He took a quick dive down the hall and further into the house, knowing she would be after him. Eventually he stopped by a small sitting room Carol mostly used for her personal affairs. She wasn't comfortable using Richard's study.
"I missed you babe" Katherine's fake smile didn't mean shit to him. He knew that he could die by her hands at any moment. The inhumanity in her made him feel nauseous beyond comparison. He hadn't figured her out, and probably never would. But knowing the truth, from Daemon no less. Hurt.
"I sincerely doubt that Katherine" He scoffed and sat down across from her on the vintage couches.
"You hurt me you know.. you failed me" She stated, picking on her perfect nails.
"Failed you? Wow, romantic little bitch aren't you?" He said with a smirk, not even flinching when she suddenly was an inch away from his face. Her face twisted into an angry frown.
"No one fails me Mason.. you are gonna regret giving them the stone" She stated, her voice as cold as ice.
"I didn't give anything to them, your ex tortured me for that information"
"Still, you better watch out. I'm in control. Always. Better keep a close eye on those you love babe, I'm known for being.. well.. a mean bitch" And then, she was gone. Mason let out a breath he didn't even know he had been holding, with a fire in his eyes he knew who she would go after. And he had to hurry to protect her.

Harper woke up in the upstairs lounge, she had just come out of the bathroom when a woman had come up behind her and made her pass out. Next thing she knew, she was trapped in a room with three vampires. Great.
"Why always me?" She groaned as she held her head in pain. The voices were stronger than ever, and she had no idea how to make them stop.
"Because dear seer, I need you as leverage.. see?" Elena's doppelganger pointed to the door where Mason, her father, Jeremy and Caroline stood staring with pitiful eyes. For some reason they didn't want to go inside, which made the situation all the more frightening.
"Me? I'm a nobody-"
"Yeah she's a nobody.. let her go Katherine" Stefan said and went closer to Harper, but the girl firmly looked at him with hatred which halted him. Magnus and Mason stood in the doorway, the two werewolves ready to fight the three vamps to death to get to Harper if they had too. Jeremy and Caroline were also there, but they couldn't do much as the situation escalated by Katherine.
"Ooh, she hates you.. why?" Katherine asked him as she took a firm stand behind Harper's chair. Her hands holding down the girl firmly in her place.
"I- I almost.."
"Went all ripper on me.. scaring me so bad I had nightmares for weeks.. You could've killed me" Harper finished his sentence. Keeping her eyes firmly onto the vampire. Stefan swallowed hard, trying not to think back to that moment in his life. The instinct, the pleasure he held to hunt like he had done that day still kept a tight hold over him. Sure, he hadn't bitten her. But it was hard not to finish the job now. The temptation to finish what wasn't complete was hard for a ripper like him. To think about doing such deadly naughty things almost made him drop his stake on the ground.
"And you Damon, what did you do to her?" Katherine giggeled, enjoying torturing the poor girl.
"Well you see, I wasn't really in the right mind set-"
"He killed my twin" Harper's voice left the room cold. Her eyes closed as she remembered the dead body of Henry, but the tears started to flow anyways. Katherine stopped smiling for a second, not knowing this from Mason or any other of her sources. She knew the horror a vampire could inflict onto a human, she herself had done horrible things. But for a split second the long lost image of her dead family flashed before her eyes and her cold dead heart almost felt remorse for the girl.
"You bastard! Just wait until I get you alone" Magnus roared, so loudly that Mason and Jeremy had to hold him back from rushing into the deadly situation. In an instant his other daughter could die. Caroline had gone downstairs as she heard commotion between Tyler and Matt.
"Now, that would be fun to watch.. but I've got something important to do before my witch comes and hands me the moonstone" Kathinge shrugged off the tension in the air and kneeled down by Harper. "Read my future" Kathrine commanded, trying to compel her.
"No" Harper said and looked away, clearly on vervain once more.
"Read my future, or I kill your father as soon as this barrier breaks" Katherine said, dead serious. Harper closed her eyes, tears falling and ruining her makeup. Everyone stared at the teenager as her eyes then opened once more, white with the might of a seer in them.
"What do you want to know? Katerina Petrova" Harper asked, and for the first time in many decades, Katherine shrudded. She had never met a seer before, but their reputation was legendary. To know about the future was the ultimate power to her, oh what she wouldn't do to possess it. She had met the Bellrose family back in the day, not knowing their power.
"Will I survive him?" She asked, hopeful that Harper would understand what demon she was talking about. The man of her nightmares, Niklaus Mikaelson.
"Yes," Harper simply said and waited for more questions. She wanted to please the woman well enough to spare her family from harm.
"Will I kill him?"
"No, your fate is to always run.. run, run, run.. never stop, never rest. Always on the run from the big, bad wolf" Harper giggled like a little school girl. Katherine was furious and out of control. She was scared and went to slap the seer when suddenly her witch came into the room.
"Stop! Don't hurt her" The unknown witch shouted out. Harper, still tapped into her powers, didn't say a thing.
"The spell on this room is broken, you are free to leave" With that both Mason and Magnus went up to Harper. Trying to make her come back to normal.
"Thank god" Katherine said and walked up to her companion.
"When I hand this over, my debt to you is over" The woman stated, looking the vampire dead in the eyes.
"Done"
"I owe you nothing-"
"I said done.. give it" Kathrine commanded.
"I wouldn't do that" Harper rasped out, staring at Katherine. But she took the stone anyway, suddenly feeling pain all over her body. Her power, draining fast.
"You should've told me another witch and a seer was involved.. She's a Bennett witch. But I'm sure you knew that" The woman said as Katherine fell down on her knees.
"Wait, Elena!" Stefan looked panicked as everyone in the room rolled their eyes. Not even Damon had much care for his crush right now.
"She's fine" The witch simply stated, glancing over to the smirking seer.
"You will be free, happy and free at last. Go to New York for love... or London for a friend" Harper stated, looking at the witch with a knowing smile before blinking. Finally done with her powers for that evening, feeling faint, Harper fell into Mason's waiting arms.
"I'm so sorry" Was the witch's final words before leaving, with an adventurous feeling in her steps. With that, the evil seemed to be defeated. Until a crash was heard from below. Mason and Magnus felt it before they heard him, he was now a real wolf.
"Tyler!" Mason shouted out, leaving Magnus to handle Harper for the time being while he rushed to help the other member of their pack.
~X~
"Matt's in the car.. sleeping it off" Mason heard Caroline say, which made him stop at the entrance. The blonde vampire had been there when it happened, he realized.
"I'll deal with him, I don't want him involved in this," She added.
"What are you doing?" Tyler asked, tired of this evening's bullshit.
"I'm fixing a very bad situation.."
"But why.. I did this. I killed her" Tyler stated with a broken voice.
"No! You didn't mean too.."
"But she's still dead!" He roared out, at which point Mason made his way inside the study to hold a firm grip on Tyler.
"I think you need to leave, Caroline.. now" Mason said as Tyler buried his face in Mason's embrace. Tired and furious at his own mistakes.
"Everything okay?" Magnus had left Harper on the front porch, letting her get some air before it was time for bed.
"I.. I killed" Tyler tried to form the sentence he had been repeating over and over again. As alpha, with an instant connection to his pack member, Magnus immediately knew of his pain and suffering.
"Thanks for helping him the best you could Caroline" The old man looked at her and watched her leave the room before finally making it to his pack member. He could hear Caroline sigh as her heart ached to comfort Tyler, but respected his wishes and left.
"It will be fine son, everything will be alright" Magnus said and placed his warm hand on the teenager's shoulder.
Caroline tried not to listen in as she walked away and out the front door, with a frown she saw a car speeding away from the parking lot. But paid it no mind as she walked to hers. Her frown deepened as she came closer to Elena's car, which stood next to her own, finding a familiar phone and mask on the ground.
All belonging to Harper.
