Chapter 26 - The Vampire that Saved Me

~X~

Harper sat with her knees pushed up against her chest, it was only with the disgusting old wall as support that made it possible for her to sit upright at all.

She felt broken, dirty. Her beautiful emerald dress ruined and torn in several places. Her make up was making her look like a clown, her hair was like a bird's nest. The masquerade had been the first time in a long time that she felt pretty. For a long time she had been insecure about her tiny frame and plank-like figure. The dress made her feel more than cute or pretty. She felt sexy and beautiful, feelings that she hadn't felt before. And when Matt, though really drunk, had said that she was really sexy, she blushed like crazy and kissed him in a frenzy. That was before he went all crazy in Richard's study.

Caroline and Carol had both gushed when dress shopping about her slender body, but Harper simply didn't share those thoughts at all. What she wouldn't do for some hips and some boobs, but at the same time she sighed at those thoughts of low self esteem.

Now she had been sitting there, staring at the unconscious Elena Gilbert for an hour now, if not longer.

Their captors, Rose and Trevor, seemed on edge about everything and anything. It surprised her that they couldn't walk in the sun, and still kept some windows only partially covered by rotten planks. She was so used to daywalkers. She couldn't help but to try and slip into her powers, but nothing seemed to relax or force her enough to use them.

"Please don't cry" Harper looked up at the male vampire, Trevor. He was charming enough, handsome, but after him almost biting her and teasing her for hours on end made the player facade seem bleak and unattractive.

"Oh.. I'm sorry.. does my kidnapping and trauma disturb you? I will try to keep that in mind with the next anxiety attack coming up" She muttered low, not really wanting to aggravate him to the point of him hurting her.

"You weren't supposed to be there with her last night" He sighed, almost like he regretted throwing her into the trunk of his car and also keeping her at this abandoned location by force.

"Well I have a knack for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.. kinda my thing at this point" She stated as more tired and frustrated tears started to form in her eyes. She just wanted to go home, to hug her dad, Tyler, Matt and Caroline. Even Mason would do it now. Just get her back to her pack.

"I'm-" At that point Elena started to stir from her slumber. Immediately going into panic mode as she wasn't in her normal bed back in Mystic Falls.

"Ah! The sleeping beauty finally awake" Trevor huffed as Elena started to fight against her restraints. With a roll of his eyes he hurried over to let her free.

"What do you want?" She cried out lamely, like any damsel would do. It took a lot of willpower for Harper not to roll her eyes.

"Shhh" Trevor said as he didn't have any patients for the doppelganger. He had been ensnared by one before, he would never see the day where he would even be well mannered to another.

"Please.. I'm hurt" Elena struggled as her hands got free. Harper couldn't help but hate the girl, she herself had way worse injuries from the trunk and manhandling from the previous vampire of this escapade. Rose had tried to get her something, but Harper wouldn't touch anything that she gave her. Not even water.

"So is your friend" Trevor stated and moved away to let the girls see each other.

"Harper?" Elena asked, looking confused as to why anyone would want her. "Why is she here?"

"She is a snack, I have been dying to taste her all night.. but it should be alright now-" Trevors face changed and launched himself at the girl in the emerald dress, Harper screamed. This is what she had been afraid of, to become a doll for them to play with. She had no idea if she still had vervain in her system.

"Trevor! Behave yourself" Rose finally came into the room, her British accent calming Harper's beating heart as Trevor took a sad step away from her.

"Buzzkill" He said to Rose, before looking down at the girl "Later darling" Harper started to cry again as panic filled her heart once more.

"What do you want with me?" Elena asked Rose, totally forgetting what just happened right in front of her.

"You look just like her" Rose stated as she walked over to Harper to try and compel her to breathe slowly. She was getting ticked off about the constant panicked state that she was in. Rose felt for the girl, and had tried her best to be kind. She wasn't the type to even feed from girls, much less kidnap them. All she wanted was for Harper to be in a state where she could compel her to forget everything, and deliver her back home as she would be a free vampire once again. But alas, it seemed like some more hours were needed to get the herb out of her.

"But I'm not her-"

"Be quiet" Rose hissed over her shoulder as she took a gentle hold of Harper and forced her to stand up on her barefoot feets. Her heels long forgotten in the trunk of Trevors car.

"But I swear I'm not Katherine! My name is Elena Gilbert-"

"I know who you are, I said.. be quiet!" Rose snapped as she sat Harper down on the armchair by the sunlight. Almost risking burning herself in the process. Now Harper would be free from Trevor for a while. Not that sunlight burned them to a crisp right away, but it would keep his paws off for as long as the sun was up.

"But what do you want?" Elena pressed again, much to Rose's delight and anger. With a harsh slap, the teenager hit the sofa behind her. Unconscious yet again.

"I want you to be quiet"

A couple of hours Later

Elena had woken up to see a sleeping Harper in the corner of her eyes, she didn't really care for the girl. She always seemed to tag along even though she wasn't invited, they didn't belong in the same circle, let alone having Harper around made everything always so much worse.

"How are the girls?" Voices came from a room down the hall, and Elena decided that now was the time to try and escape. She needed to go back home, and fast. Bonnie's note a few hours before only fueled her fire to be gone from this hellhole.

"Harper finally passed out, both of them are out" Trevor stated, and Elena started to tune out from the appeal to listen in on the conversation. She didn't need to know anything about that girl, she already knew the important parts. Stefan and Damon always acted weirdly around the girl, and Elena didn't why. It was something she needed to figure out at the same time as she figured out her feelings for the brothers.

"You haven't touched her, right?" Rose's concerned voice made Elena frown, why did she care?

"No! Have some faith in me" Trevor huffed, then switched to a much milder tone. "So you called him?"

"No, I called one of his contacts.. you know how this works" Rose said and rolled her eyes.

"Did you, or did you not get the message to Elijah?" Trevor hissed in irritation, already his fight or flight reaction was kicking in and it had always laid heavily on the flight.

"They say that he got it"

"Good" Trevor sounded more anxious than ever, and Elena's fright over the situation dialed down. They weren't scary at all. "And what-"

"And that's it Trevor, now we wait" Rose stated.

"Look, it's not too late we can leave them here, we don't have to go through with it" Trevor pleaded and held Rose's hand tightly on his own. His eyes moist from the anxiety he had over this.

"I'm sick of running," Rose said and ripped her hand away from his.

"Yeah? Well running keeps us from dying"

"Elijah is old school, if he accepts our deal. We go free"

"And Harper?" Trevor asked and once again, Elena turned out of the conversation to focus on getting away. This Elijah person would not get her, not now not ever.

"We take her home, like we discussed"

"Fine-" At that moment Elena stepped on an old wooden floorboard, alerting the vampires about her precance.

"You!" Rose spun around and stomped up to her, taking her arm in a strong grip."There's nothing around here for miles.. if you think you are getting out of this house, forget it"

"Who's Elijah?" Elena asked, arrogant and curious about this new guy that was supposed to be all high and all the way here, just to find her.

"Your worst nightmare" Rose snapped, leading the teenager back to the grand room where Harper was still sleeping.

Mystic Falls Police Department

"She is missing.. again?" Sheriff Forbes was getting a major headache with everything that was going on in her life right now. On top of just mundane human stuff, the supernatural world just kept on crashing in and added to her workload. Matt was still sleeping off last night at his place, the teenager was almost charged with drunken misdemeanor last night the way he had acted.

"Yes, I left her on the front porch last night as she was getting some air.. when I came back to get her she was gone." Magnus stated, his face gaunt with dark circles under his eyes. He was a very handsome man, she had first thought. Her attraction for him only grew as day by day as she saw how attentive he was to his daughter. She couldn't imagine the pain he was under right now, even as Caroline had been in the hospital and undergoing major surgery. It was a comfort to know where she was and that she could always be by her side through the hard part of healing, losing a daughter into the big world out there was way more horrifying.

"I found her things by my car, she had to have walked out to meet someone" Caroline said and placed Harper's phone on the desk.

"Who could that be?" Mason asked, knowing Harper didn't have any real friends except for Matt, Caroline and Tyler. Who was still in the house at the time.

"Elena's car was parked by mine, maybe she needed to see her?" Caroline stated, but frowned as the words left her mouth.

"Is Miss Gilbert okay?" Carol asked, looking between everybody to see if they knew anything. But no one said a word.

"I don't know, you have to ask her boyfriends about that" Caroline snapped, fed up by her former best friends. All she was thinking about was Harper and Tyler, who was going through his own major change at the moment. She had been asked by Magnus and Mason to look out for him at school, and she really did try her best. But Tyler's temper just clashed with hers too much to resolve anything.

"Caroline-" Lizz looked a bit disappointed that her daughter felt that way, but couldn't help but to feel the same. Elena always seemed to have her guardian angels with her all the time Harper was probably out there all alone. As much as it hurt the sheriff to admit, her heart triumphed over her logical thinking.

"Mom, I honestly don't know.. all I know is that my best friend is missing" Caroline said.

"I don't want to lose my daughter, she is the only thing I have left from me and Sunny" Magnus added as his heavy shoulders slumped. The poor man probably hadn't slept all night.

"She is mine by everything but blood, my daughter needs to come home,'' Carol stated with a nod. Lizz knew what she needed to do.

"We will try and keep it on the downlow, and solve it as best we can without alerting the town" The sheriff stated, knowing that supernatural foul play was at large.

"Whatever you think is the best sheriff," Mason said, already texting Tyler about the news and plan of action.

Back at the abandoned House

"Hello there" Trevor said as he came up behind Harper. She was standing looking out the broken window between two rotten planks, all she could see was endless fields and forest around some parts. It was truly beautiful, and made her relax for the first time in these last 24 hours.

"Leave me alone" She mumbled, keeping her gaze at the outdoors, ignoring the predator that was standing beside her now.

"I try to my dear but you keep trying to sneak out the front door.. or a window, can't have that without your memory wiped" Trevor stated with mirth in his voice, he was trying to lighten up the mood. But he failed. Harper had tried to leave twice, but she had been caught by her waist and brought back into the armchair both of those times.

"Great" Harper rolled her eyes, turning around to slap Trevor's creeping hands away from her body. But with a simple touch of skin to skin made her powers go off, her eyes flashing white for a second or two before going back to normal.

"A seer" He breathed in amazement, he had met one before. Long ago back in England, his name is now forgotten. He was probably long gone by now anyways, as he too betrayed Klaus as he himself had done.

"What?" Harper sunk back into the chair, shielding her body with her arms.

"You are a seer!" He laughed out loud, not believing his luck on this day. What fate had pushed her onto his path, what had he ever done to deserve such luck now?

"No.. no, no no! Please don't force me.. please not again!" Harper immediately recognised that look upon the vampire's face. He wanted to use her, just like everyone else did.

"Hey! Hey darling calm down.. breathe" Trevor forgot all about his own desires as the girl in the emerald dress started to hyperventilate, his secure hands held her close as he helped her the best that he could. "Yes, breathe, that's it.. steady"

"You have been through something horrible.." Suddenly Rose was in the room with them, Elena trailing behind her with a mildly concerned look. "By the hands of vampires I guess?"

"Stefan and Damon Salvatore ruined my life" Harper hissed, looking right onto Elena with cold eyes.

"How?" Elena huffed in her own ignorance, the vampires looked at her with disdain. Truly understanding that she was exactly the same as her ancestors.

"Damon killed my twin sister, Stefan tried to eat me" Harper whispered, Elena's eyes widened in recollection. Remembering what had happened, but then again she didn't really care. She knew deep in her heart that Damon and Stefan weren't monsters. They didn't deserve to be treated like it either. Sure they had made mistakes, but that was the human part of them, they were flawed. As is anybody.

"I see" Rose said and looked at Elena as the girl walked away. Raising her eyebrows as she didn't try to defend her lover and his brother.

"Please don't force me to look anywhere" Harper rasped and looked at Trevor, deep in his eyes. He was terrified of what was to come, but she wouldn't help him, even now.

"I won't, darling.. I won't.. Soon this will all be over" He said, lightly patting her back as she seemed to calm down further.

Some time Later

Rose and Trevor had been packing their few possessions and clothing as the time of the meeting was coming closer and closer. Harper was still dressed in her party dress, but had finally relented to Rose's kind suggestion of a shower and hairbrush. With wet hair and still no shoes, she sat curled up in the same armchair by the sunshine, trying to not panic as everyone around her tensed up and became more antsy.

"He's here" Trevor suddenly burst into the room, immediately dashing to Rose's side. "This was a mistake"

"No, I told you I would get you out of this.. you have to trust me" Rose stated with a sigh, getting tired of Trevor's lack of confidence in her plan.

"No! He wants me dead, Rose!" The male vampire was on the verge of tears.

"He wants her dead more!" Rose pointed at Elena, who frowned as the vampires became all the more rallied up about this Elijah guy.

"I can't do this, you take her to him.. he will have mercy on you.. but I need to get out of here" Trevor said and turned around to run away for good. He would be fine on the run, he had done this for so long. Why did a few more decades matter?

"Hey! what are we?" Rose took a hold of his shoulders, spinning him around to meet her gaze. With a firm nod and a calming breath, Trevor realized that he had to do this. He had to be brave.

"We're family..forever" He stated simply, nodding a few times to let the thought settle once more in his mind. Letting it fuel him with more confidence to face his demons.

"You are scared" Elena gasped, fearing for herself about what was to come. Who was this god amongst vampires? What did he want with her? Suddenly, a heavy knock came at the front door.

"Stay here with her, and don't make a sound" Rose snapped at Trevor, forcing him to stay with the girls. He immediately went closer to Harper, almost as if he was trying to act like a shield for her.

It took a while, Rose and a man's voice was heard in another room close to the big ballroom they were in. Harper tried to listen in, but her hearing had always been bad, nothing serious. But she simply couldn't hear what was being said. Meanwhile, Trevor gulped several times, and fiddled with his fingers with nervosity. Harper almost felt bad for him, deep down he reminded her of William in many ways, oh how she missed him.

Then a tall, dark and utterly drool worthy man came through the double doors, immediately stopping at the sight of Elena. He dashed to her, smirking with interest as he studied her features. Slowly, almost in a sensual manner, he leaned in close to smell her neck.

"Human.. it's impossible" Even his voice made Harper want to swoon, how had nature planned when creating him. He was all sex, class and mystery, totally unfair to anyone within his visinity. "Hello" He said, smiling as he looked at her one more time, before glancing at Harper's hidden figure behind Trevor.

"And who is this?" Elijah asked, raising an eyebrow at Rose.

"Nobody.." Trevor's meek voice made the ancient vampire frustrated, and he walked with determined steps up to him.

"Have you fed from her?" He asked, holding a firm grip upon Trevor's shirt.

"No! No we haven't touched her" Trevor stated the truth, at that moment, as Elijah shoved the younger vampire shield away from her. Harper's eyes turned milky white once more, as she had held onto his bare skin for only a small second, catching a glimpse of the future ahead of them if a certain road was walked upon.

"A seer.. how utterly extraordinary you are" Elijah places his cold hand upon her cheek, knowing it would snap her out of whatever she had seen when touching Trevor.

"Please just let me go," Harper pleaded, but Elijah's hand didn't stray from her face. His eyes were filled with something dark and unknown, Stefan had held the same look with a mixture of hunger at the night of the Miss Mystic Falls event, it was something that made Harper want to disappear forever.

"Oh my dear, I would never" Elijah stated, smirking as Harper squirmed under his gaze. Taking her hand, in a very awkward and weird way, he led her closer to the doppelganger. Who had been watching the two with wide eyes, how on earth could a man like him act like that to Harper Bellrose?!

"Well we have a long journey ahead of us, we should really get going" Elijah sighed as he predicted restrain from the doppelganger pretty much straight away.

"Please don't let him take me" Elena looked at Trevor and Rose, but they did nothing. Elijah rolled his eyes, doppelganger always had such a flair for the dramatics.

"One last piece of business, then we are done" Elijah stated as he let go of Harper's hand to get closer to Trevor.

"I have waited so long for this day, Elijah, I'm so sorry" Trevor mumbled, looking down on the dirty ground rather upon the man he had wronged.

"Your apology is not necessary" Elijah said and smiled in a rather cruel way.

"Yes, yes it is.." Trevor rasped out, meeting the gaze of Harper that was now standing behind Elijah. "You trusted me with Katerina and I failed you"

"Well yes you are the guilty one. And Rose here helped you because she was loyal to you. That, I honor" Elijah chuckled. "Where was your loyalty?"

"I beg for your-" But Elijah was already moving to rip the poor man's heart out. Harper knew this was her moment, she needed to act now, to change the future forever.

"Don't kill him!" She shouted out, surprising everyone in the room. Elijah promptly halted, and Trevor's tear filled eyes opened once more.

"And why not, my dear seer?" Elijah fully turned towards her, smirking at the notion of her knowing something beneficial.

"He will find your family.. your siblings.. all of them" She whispered, not knowing if the others should know about them. She had seen them all, mummified in their coffins. And Trevor had been the one to hand them over to Elijah.

"Trevor will?" Elijah scoffed, not believing that such a spineless and weak vampire would be able to be of any use to him.

"Yes.. make him swear to be forever loyal, make him live, and he will reunite you with everyone" Harper said, nodding to Trevor that he needed to do this. Because the other option was certain death. Elijah smiled, his face really lighting up as he looked back at the trembling Trevor.

"You are truly lucky, and your pardon is so granted" The ancient one stated, patting him on his shoulder before taking a step back. Rose was quick to dash into Trevor's arms, both of them crying of happiness.

"Oh thank you! Thank-" Rose said over and over, but Elijah still had a serious look on his face.

"But you heard her" He simply stated.

"What?"

"Find them.. prove your loyalty.. or I will kill you" Elijah said, taking out a simple burner phone in his spare pocket and throwing it into Trevor's hands. "You are bound to my in service, forever"

"Yes" Trevor nodded, about a million times, before looking at his Rose with hopeful eyes.

"Well then, come along-" Elijah once more took Harper's hand, she felt sick to her stomach. But knew it was nothing she could do to stop him. No one was coming to rescue her this time.

"What about the moonstone?" Elena burst out as Elijah approached her. With a raised eyebrow the man stopped in his tracks.

"What do you know about the moonstone?"

"I know that you need it- I know where it is, I can help you get it" Elena pleaded her bargain, much to Harper's fury and disappointment.

"Y-you stole it from my family, you thief! It didn't belong to you and your little boyfriends tortured my uncle for it" The timid girl suddenly burst out, looking upon Elena with hatred.

"Ah, so the line of Petrova still remains the same.." Elijah sighed, not surprised at all how deceiving Elena seemed to be "Tell me where it is"

"It doesn't work that way" Elena snapped, wanting to make a bargain with him.

"You are negotiating with me?" Elijah scoffed, turning to Rose and Trevor.

"It's the first we've heard of it" Rose snapped, not really believing a single word that came out of the doppelganger's mouth.

"What is this vervain doing around your neck" Elijah said as he ripped it off and threw it on the floor. He would pick it up later, he knew it belonged to his sister, but now he simply didn't care. "Tell me where the moonstone is"

"In the tomb underneath the church ruins" Elena said, compelled. Harper wanted to do an evil laugh, but restrained herself from it.

"What is it doing there?"

"It's with Katherine"

"Interesting" Elijah stated, ready to finally compel the girl to come with him in a peaceful and easy manner when something on the second floor made a noise. "What is that?"

"We don't know, nothing is around this house for miles" Trevor said, still frightened of Elijah's powerful personality.

"Who else is in this house?!" Elijah roared, not realizing his grip on Harper was getting tighter.

"It's the Salvatores," Harper said, turning to look at Elena. "Coming to save the damsel"

"Take her to my car and then leave to begin your quest" Elijah commended the duo, handing Harper over to them while getting ready to fight off these baby vampires on his own.

"Sorry love" Trevor stated, before lifting her up in his arms like a bride. Harper just rolled her eyes, she knew none of them had any choice about this, it was better to just go along with it, for now.

Hours later

Elijah huffed as he stepped out of the disgusting house and headed towards his sleek, black car. The sun had gone down and the air was now quite chilly, when he reached his car he smirked. The useless ones had proven themselves to be the opposite today. The beautiful seer was sleeping soundly in the front seat. "You are finally awake" She simply said as he slammed the door to the driver's seat closed, her eyes meeting his.

"They didn't even try to find you, even when the doppelganger knew where you were" He stated as he started his car, ready to return to his hotel suite. He really needed a change of clothing.

"They don't like me very much," Harper sighed, closing her eyes once more. Elijah frowned at that, not really caring for teenage drama at all.

"I see"

"What happens now?" Harper asked, Elijah then smirked. His devilish looks making her blush. She felt bad, as she and Matt hadn't even started to become something serious and she was deeply conflicted by her feelings for him. Why did she feel butterflies for Elijah?

"You are mine" He stated, shrugging as if it was a given.

"No" She rolled her eyes, she wasn't anybody's possession.

"Yes, and you will be mine until I let you go" Elijah chuckled, still acting quite arrogant and high and mighty.

"Please, just take me home" She mumbled, feeling fatigue over the day she had finally overpower her.

"I will"

"But.."

"But first we have a doppelganger to collect"
