Hiccup and the others just watched in horror as Heather was now frozen in place, thanks to Asmund.
"You bastard!" Hiccup roared angrily.
"Calm down; if you thaw her out carefully, she will live," Asmund assured him. "However, her body is extremely fragile in this state, so you'll need to handle her with care. If any part of her breaks, she'll die." Asmund then raised his fist, and everyone just stared in horror. "For example, if I was a smash apart like this!"
"Heather!" everyone screamed.
Hiccup then suddenly moved with blinding speed and grabbed Heather, pulling her away just before Asmund's fist made contact.
"That was too close," said Hiccup with a sigh of relief.
Asmund then raised his foot, prepared to stomp on top of Heather, but Snotlout quickly rested and then grabbed Heather before he had a chance.
"Got her!" Snotlout yelled.
"Thank, Thor," said Fishlegs.
"Wow, I didn't know you had it in you," said Ruffnut.
"Yeah, way to go!" said Tuffnut.
"You saved her!" Chopper cheered.
"While there are you doing?" Asmund glared.
"Snotlout! Fishlegs! Chopper!" Hiccup yelled. "The three of you and the twins run back to the ship! Thaw her out and keep her safe!"
"Right! You got it, captain!" the five of them said.
"We have to hurry, but be gentle," said Fishlegs as they carried Heather away.
"It's cold!" Snotlout moaned.
"I know, but Heather is even colder!" Fishlegs reminded him.
"Don't bother; the world would be a much better place without that woman in it," said Asmund as he began to follow them.
Astrid then grabbed a tree branch and used it in order to attack Asmund, but he caught it before it made contact.
"Not to split hairs, but a pirate crew pretty much consists of people just like that," said Astrid.
Asmund narrowed his eyes. "You got that right, lady. Now, if you don't mind, kindly step aside."
He then shut Astrid aside.
"You made a mistake messing with this crew!" said Toothless as he and Ragnar charged at him.
"Wait, nobody attack him!" Hiccup ordered. Ragnar and Toothless stopped in their tracks and stared at him, confused. "Stay back and don't interfere; I'm going to find him one-on-one."
Asmund turned and faced him.
"So what you say?" said Hiccup as he raised his fists. "The two of us can settle this on our own."
"Fine by me," said Asmund as his body slowly turned to ice. "But since I don't have a ship to take you back, I'll just have to kill ya."
Fishlegs and the others had managed to get the ship in the immediately began treating Heather. Under Chopper's instructions, they took her to the bathroom and quickly filled the tub with hot water and had the shower continue raining water. This, of course, flooded the entire bathroom, but none of them really care about that at the moment.
"She can't read like this, can she?" said Fishlegs horrified.
"I think she's in a state of suspended animation," said Chopper as they continued tossing buckets of hot water on her.
"But doesn't that mean she'll die? We gotta do something?" Snotlout asked.
"Yeah, why don't we just toss a whole barrel of hot water on top of her?" Tuffnut asked.
"If we warm her up too quickly, she'll shatter," said Chopper. "We have to restore her body temperature from the inside out."
"Are you sure this is really going to work?" Fishlegs asked.
"I don't know, but it's the only thing—" said Chopper honestly.
"Wait a minute, you don't know!" Snotlout yelled. "This is Heather's life we're talking about here!"
"I know," said Chopper with tears in his eyes. "But I've never treated someone whose entire body was frozen before! I know that Asmund said that she was still alive, but I just don't see how that can be possible!"
"If you can't do anything to save her, then no one in the whole world can, you understand!" Snotlout yelled. "You're the doctor of the Dragon Rider Pirates, got it?"
"I know, okay! Just shut up and stop yelling at me!" Chopper yelled.
"Will the two of you stop it!" Fishlegs snapped. "Right now, our only focus should be on Heather!"
"Way to take charge," said Ruffnut.
With that, they kept on tossing hot water onto Heather praying that she was still alive.
"Chopper!" said Toothless' voice outside.
Chopper rushed out, leaving the others to continue with Heather's treatment. Once outside, he saw Astrid, Ragnar and Toothless standing there on the shore looking completely out of breath, and there was no sign of Hiccup.
"What's going on? Why are the three of you here? Where's Hiccup?" Chopper asked.
"There is no time to explain; we need to go back right away!" said Toothless. "Helpers, do something about this frozen arm and leg!"
"Oh, right," said Chopper. "We need to douse every part of your body that's frozen in water, but we're using the shower room for Heather."
"How is Heather? Is she okay?" Astrid asked.
"Uh, it's too early to tell."
Toothless and Ragnar then quickly dived into the ocean.
"Will this do, Chopper?" Ragnar asked.
"Yes, when the ice begins to melt, start running the infected areas and then come up to the ship right away!" Chopper ordered, then turned to Astrid. "Astrid, come aboard and help us treat Heather!"
"Right!" Astrid nodded, climbing aboard.
Snotlout made his way on deck to see what all the commotion was about and saw Ragnar and Toothless sitting on the deck, rubbing their infected areas with a towel.
"What the—Why are you guys here?" Snotlout asked. "What happened? Where's Hiccup?"
"Fighting Asmund one-on-one," said Ragnar.
"One-on-one?" Snotlout stared. "You mean you left Hiccup there to face him all by himself?"
"Those were the captain's orders," said Ragnar.
"Are you crazy? Can't you tell when an order is unreasonable? I can't believe you would be so coldhearted to just—"
Ragnar then rose to his feet, grabbed the hem of his shirt, and pinned him to the wall. "It was a duel! Can't you understand that? It's what he wanted!"
"Stop it, both of you; this isn't the time," said Toothless. "Right now, we need to stay focused, okay. It doesn't matter why he made such a decision, but whatever happens, we have to learn to deal with it. Understand?"
Hiccup was in pretty bad shape; several parts of his body were now covered in ice, and Asmund didn't have a scratch on him. The truth was he was only surviving this long thanks to his internal body heat thanks to his hybrid form.
"You really are a stubborn one, aren't ya?" said Asmund looking almost abused.
Hiccup then charged at him once again, and Asmund merely raised his hand. This time, however, Hiccup ducked to avoid his palm and to get inside his guard. He then quickly used his tail in order to send Asmund flying into the sky.
Hiccup then wasted no time and immediately flew upwards and began to perform the barrel roll.
"Plasma Barrage!" Hiccup roared, firing multiple plasma blasts.
His attack was able to shatter Asmund's body, but then he just merely regenerated and appeared right next to Hiccup.
"And now it's ice time," said Asmund.
Hiccup found himself trapped in an armlock around his neck and felt his entire body began to freeze over. Within seconds he was encased in ice just like Heather and at the mercy of Asmund.
Asmund placed Hiccup down on the ground and sat down to face him; he then realised the real reason why he wants to fight one-on-one.
"Oh man, you tricked me," said Asmund. "The moment I agreed to fight you one-on-one, I settled on defeating you and you alone, but that was your plan, wasn't it? If I were to attack your crew now, I'd be the bad guy here. Isn't that right, Captain?"
Hiccup, of course, was unable to speak, and there was no telling whether he was able to hear Asmund as well.
Asmund then rose to his feet and brushed himself down. "Let me give you a piece of advice. Keep a close eye on Heather Owson. Eventually, she will grow more than you can handle. The nature of the vile fate she was born into will be a greater danger than you can imagine. More of a burden then you could ever hope to bear. That's what it means to have that woman as part of your crew; you have been warned…" He then raised his foot in front of Hiccup and then smashed a block of ice directly behind him. "… Mr Hiccup D Haddock!
"It would be easier to break you and kill you right here and now, but I have a debt to honour," said Asmund picking up his coat and began to walk off. "Consider us even for you taking care of Viggo as well as… uh, oh nevermind… something to do with Smoker. See ya."
About a minute later, both Ragnar and Toothless emerge from the trees, and there was no sign of Asmund, but the more pressing issue was the fact that Hiccup was encased in ice.
"There he is!" Toothless yelled.
"Hiccup!" Ragnar cried.
"He's still in one piece!"
"That's good news; we need to get into the ship immediately."
Asmund was currently on the other side of the island on his bicycle. He then looked at the map, and he soon realised where Hiccup and his crew would be heading next.
"If they follow their log pose from this island, their next destination is Water 7, the city of water," he said. "Oh my, my, my, would you look at that? They're getting really close to our headquarters, aren't they?"
He then began to cycle away from the island, using his powers in order to create a trial for his bicycle.
Meanwhile, on the Going Tiger, everyone was waiting with bated breath to find out both Hiccup and Heather's condition.
Chopper then suddenly appeared with tears in his eyes. "Both… of their hearts… are beating!"
Upon hearing this, everyone immediately cheered.
"Hiccup!" Astrid yelled, rushing to the door.
"Heather!" Ragnar yelled, doing the exact same thing.
Chopper then quickly transformed into his human form and stop the two of them. "You can't go in yet! I do not want them disturbed, understand?"
"Then how about I make them some food?" Ragnar asked.
"I don't think they are in any position to eat any food, but I think some warm drinks would be nice when they wake up," said Chopper as he reverted to his hybrid form. "I'll carry them into the rounds later."
"Then I better get to work," said Ragnar making his way to the kitchen.
Toothless then looked at Astrid. "With the captain out of commission, you're now in charge. So should we set sail?"
"Not while the captain is out of commission," said Astrid. "We may have a new heading, but I still say that we should rest a while."
Snotlout then suddenly collapsed.
"What's the matter with you, Snotlout?" Toothless asked. "You look beat."
"I'm just wondering if there's going to be more guys like him, coming after us everywhere we go," said Snotlout.
"Well, we know there's at least two more," said Ruffnut.
"Yeah, there's a total of three Admirals and let's not forget about that Smoker guy; I mean, he chased us all the way from Log Town," said Tuffnut.
"I don't think you guys are helping," said Fishlegs.
"This is crazy. I don't know how much more this I can take," said Snotlout looking as if he was going to pass out.
"Let's just get some sleep; after today, I bet we're all exhausted," said Toothless.
So to that end, everyone got some rest, and then a few days later, they set sail once again.
Fishlegs was on the deck writing in the logbook. 'In order for Hiccup and Heather to get some rest and recover, the Going Tiger remained anchored on the uninhabited island for four days. After that, we set sail. Today marks the third morning since we resumed our voyage. The weather is clear and sunny, mostly spring with occasional bouts of summer.'
"It's certainly a beautiful morning," said Astrid as she stretched on the deck chair.
"Certainly couldn't have asked for a finer day," said Ragnar as he handed her dishes prepared.
"Especially given the runaround we've had over the last few weeks," said Toothless as he laid there on the deck. "I mean first a marine fortress, we land in the Calm Belt, then we lose our memories and then to top it off, we have a stand-off with the Marina Admiral."
"It has certainly been rather eventful," Hiccup admitted as he joined them. "But this will all come out stronger for it."
Astrid looked at him, concerned. "Are you sure you're all right? I mean, you were completely frozen over."
"Astrid, I'm fine," Hiccup assured her. "Chopper's treatment was first class."
"Your stubbornness never ceases to amaze me," said Ragnar.
Snotlout on the other side of the deck folding his arms. "Why did Astrid show a lot more concerned to him then she does to me?"
"Well, Hiccup is the captain," said Tuffnut.
"He also freed her village from Arlong and his pirates; he managed to take down a warlord and a self-proclaimed god," Ruffnut added. "Oh, and he also had a near-death experience Marine Admiral."
"It was rhetorical," said Snotlout glaring at them.
A few moments later, everyone was having lunch, hand prepared by Ragnar. Then everyone immediately stopped what they were doing when they saw Heather making her way on deck, something she hadn't done for days.
"Heather?" Astrid stared.
Chopper quickly rushed over to her. "Heather… are you feeling okay? Do you still have a chill?"
"Your treatment helped me out immensely," Heather smiled gratefully. "Thanks, you're a wonderful doctor."
"Even still, you should take it easy, Heather," Astrid advised. "Hiccup's internal body temperature is the reason why he's up and about, but you, on the other hand, still have a long road to recovery. You should lie down and take your time."
"I can make something to warm you up. Do you have an appetite?" Ragnar asked.
"I do. May I have some coffee, please?" Heather asked.
"Right away," said Ragnar made his way to the kitchen.
Astrid and Heather made their way inside along with Fishlegs as Ragnar prepared some coffee. Everyone else remained outside, and Toothless kept watch and then he saw something large swimming next to them.
"What the heck is that?" he said.
He squinted, and then suddenly appearing out of the water was a giant frog covered in scars doing the front crawl. Upon seeing at him nearly choked on his food.
"Hiccup, come quick!" Toothless yelled. "There's a frog doing the front crawl!"
"What?" Hiccup stared.
"See for yourself; it headed to your side!"
"Really?" said Hiccup as he looked out to see.
"I wonder if it's that same frog we heard about?" Chopper wondered.
"Come on, are you really going to take anything that goofy Admiral told you seriously?" Snotlout scoffed as he looked out to sea. "There's no way that a frog can do the front crawl. It's…" He then saw the frog doing the front crawl. "…holy crap, there's a frog doing the front crawl!"
"After him!" Hiccup ordered.
"Aye, aye!" everyone nodded.
"Take in the sails! Stand by the ores!" Hiccup ordered. "Bring the ship about at 2 o'clock!"
"Aye, aye!"
"Hurry, we can't let it escape!" said Hiccup.
"I don't know why, but I feel like we really do have to follow it," said Toothless.
Astrid and the others were inside, and Ragnar had just finished preparing everyone a cup of coffee.
"Sorry for the wait," he said as he was about to put the tray down on the table.
Suddenly, the ship turned course, and Ragnar would have fallen over if Heather hadn't summoned some hands to catch him.
"What's happening?" Ragnar asked.
"What's going on?" Astrid asked.
"It seems like the ship has changed its course," said Heather.
Fishlegs then immediately rushed outside and looked at Hiccup. "Hiccup, why did you change course without asking me?"
"Fishlegs, you're not going to believe this, but we found a huge frog with scars all over his body, and we're following it," said Hiccup.
"Did he just say a frog?" Astrid blinked as she joined them.
"We need to catch up to it before it causes any more damage," said Hiccup.
Fishlegs pulled out his spyglass and definitely saw a frog in the distance. "He's right…" He then saw something that appeared to be a lighthouse, and the frog was heading straight towards it. "Huh, is that a lighthouse?"
"Why would a lighthouse be doing in the middle of the sea?" Astrid frowned.
"Do you see an island?" Hiccup asked.
Fishlegs looked at the others. "Not really, it's just a lighthouse, and there's not enough there for the log pose to point towards."
"What about the frog?"
"It appears to be making its way towards the lighthouse," said Heather as she joined them.
"One of anyone is living in that lighthouse?" Ragnar wondered.
"Full speed ahead!" Hiccup ordered.
"Aye, aye!"
The frog seemed to be a very strong swimmer as it was able to stay ahead of the ship, despite all their efforts. Then suddenly jumped out of the water straight towards the lighthouse.
"It jumped out of the water!" Hiccup yelled and looked at the others. "Don't let it get away! Let's get out ahead of it and block its course!"
They kept on rowing and quickly as they could, but then suddenly they struck something on the ship came to a sudden stop.
"I guess we ran ashore or something," said Snotlout.
"Is everyone all right?" Ragnar asked, rubbing his head.
"I'm good," said Astrid.
"Same here," said Heather.
"Good, but what the heck happened?" Ragnar asked.
Before anyone could explain, they suddenly heard the sound of a bell.
"What's that sound?" Fishlegs asked.
"Now what?" Snotlout moaned.
They then heard the sound of a puffy sound heading towards them.
"Wait, that sounds like a…" said Astrid rushed to her feet. She looked around and saw that the bell was coming from a train signal. "No way…"
Hiccup rose to his feet, and then his eyes widened in horror as he saw heading straight towards them with a train skimming across the water.
"Full reverse right now!" he yelled at the top of his voice. "Turn 180 degrees!"
