Jay and Hayley are partner's slow burn, but almost there.

Will is single.

Sarah is a girl/woman from the brothers past and she has a daughter called Sophie who is three.

We start with Jay and Hayley getting take out after work.

"My place or yours?" Jay asked Hailey playfully, they had been at work for three days straight.

"Yours, I think Vanessa has a friend coming over!" Hailey replied with her left eyebrow raised.

"Are we still pretending we don't know, they are together?" he replied.

"I don't think they know they are together- together, just a friend with benefits deal so she say's. I'm staying out of it and letting them get on with it. She's young why shouldn't she get it where she can, God knows I would."

"You would sleep with Kevin?" he asked seriously

"What? No! I meant… forget it!" Hailey sighed and turned to look out the window. A small girl stood out side, she looked about 3, her auburn hair in pigtails, when she turned to look in the shop, her eyes where so familiar, Hailey just couldn't put her finger on where from. The girl was scooped up by a woman in her 30s, and they made their way in to the pizza shop. Jay was talking away but she hadn't heard a word.

"Hey, you listening to me? Hailey?", Jay had turned and looked at her. That's when he saw her,

"Sarah?" Jay asked.

The woman froze, her eyes looked from Jay to Hailey and gulped.

"Jay, hey," she pulled Sophie behind her "how are you?"

"I'm good thanks, just finished work, we are going home to eat. How are you? I thought you moved to Washington?"

"We did, Hannah passed away last week, so we had to come back. The boy's dad, we'll he never came home, well you know that and I'm all they have. -sadness and guilt washed over her face, - I'm sorry I shouldn't of said that, of course you know, anyway I'm at dad's place with them. How's Will doing?"

"he's OK, when did you last see him?"

"Long time ago she replied, long before I left" a different type of guilt was on her face this time.

"Hey you ready?" Hailey asked Jay as she returned with their food.

"Hey yeah, sorry Sarah this is my partner Hailey, Hailey this is a friend who grew up on my street, and who's this?" he asked kneeling in front of the little girl.

"This is Sophie, can u say hi to mummy's friends?"

"Hi, are you a policeman? You have a badge like Mommy's but it's different."

"Yeah, I am, I'm Jay nice to meet you and this is Hailey" Sophie smiled and waved. Jay stood up and looked Sarah in the eyes, and then looked at Sophie again. "Look I won't tell him your home if you don't want me too, He's goanna see you around at some point."

"Look, Jay, I will reach out, I just need this week over with. I promise!"

"OK sorry but we have to go home I'll see you around"

Both nodded at each other Hailey smiled at them both and they left the shop.

"OK, I need all that gossip, and beer tonight!" Hailey said getting into the truck.

"We will need more than beer!" he joked as they pulled away from the curb.

"Lead the way, I'm all yours!" Hailey blushed at what she had said but Jay's eyes just met hers and she knew she really was. Her stomach flipped and her pulse sped up. It was going to be a long night.

They had spare clothes in each others cars, Hayley was in her sweats and on her second beer before curiosity got the better of her.

"Come on spill, who is she?"

"OK well you lasted longer than I thought you would!" Jay laughed.

"OK I can call Will, I'm sure he will tell me!"

"No, OK so there were 6 of us who were the same age on the street, Hannah and Will are the same age, Sarah, Mouse and I are the same age and then there's Kay who is Sarah's younger sister. We were 7-8 is so all just kids all hung round together, Sarah and Will just had this connection. Like even back then we knew they were soul mates. Not in a sexual way, not till she was 17. That's where everything went wrong. He left to go to college, Hannah also left. I was a typical 17 year old guy and we used to sneak out drinking in the garage. Mouse was hot for her but we knew she only had eyes for Will. I enlisted and Muse followed me. That's where it gets sketchy. We all lived our lives and then one time I was on leave, mouse was home and he had guy we knew come back with us. Tommy. He saw Hannah and they were married within two weeks, she fell pregnant with twin boys, he was killed on my last tour out there. Hannah was crushed. Never remarried. Blames me and Mouse for not bringing him home alive. I know their was nothing I could do. Don't make it any easier though. Any way Sarah joined the at the same time as me, I was seeing a girl I met on a night out. We stayed in touch but they she went to New York, which is where Will was. They were on again off again until he came home about a year before you joined. So about 4 years ago. Oh crap….Do you think?"

"Ding Ding, Detective, I think I need to check you results on the exam. I knew I'd seen her eyes before but couldn't put my finger on where from. Then I actually figured it was Will, your body language towards her wasn't the right type for the kid to be yours."

"Hailey first Kevin and now you're looking at Will's eyes!"

"Actually you and Will have the same eyes, - cautiously she looked up at him- I've looked into your eyes enough times to know what they are like" a silence filled the air, she blushed and looked at the TV. "so are you going to tell him?"

Jay was still speechless, it was like he was 19 again and he had a belly full of fireworks, had she just admitted to looking into his eyes. Was there something between them? He knew he loved her, that she was his soul mate. The thought of being away from her or working without her or not getting a text in the morning made him want to scoop her up and hide her away. He watched her as she watched the TV and drank some more beer. This is what he wanted, forever, she was is his person. Everyone else was nothing in comparison.

"Jay, where did you just go?" Hailey asked him.

"Sorry, no I'm not going to yet at least, if its meant to be they with get together eventually right?"

"Yeah, they will get it right at some point."

Jay turned the lamp of next to him as Hailey snuggled into the sofa next to him, he throws a comforter over them and he settles into a dreamless sleep.
