The Gates of Justice were now as open as they could get; now, an entire fleet of ships would be able to pass through them unhindered. The Marines on the island were utterly terrified; never before had they been opened this wide.
"Hey, look! They're opening! The Gates of Justice are really opening!"
"You're right; in all my years here, this is the first time it's ever happened!"
"I've never even heard of it happening before."
"They must be letting in the battleship headquarters through!"
"The Buster Call is about to be let loose!"
The Giants were carrying everyone and running as quickly as they could to the main island front gate.
"Ah, crap," said Palmer. "I do not like this. Granny Coco said that the Gates of Justice never open all the way like that."
"This Buster Call thing must be really bad," said Kaley.
"Even the Marines are in a panic to get out of here," said Kalena. "The Dragon Riders picked a fight with the whole world; they might really burn down the whole island to get at them."
"Hang in there, bro!" Teeny yelled. "Don't die!"
"Yeah!" the Eret Family cheered.
"You to Dragon!" Lasse yelled.
"Yeah!" everyone cheered.
In the storage room, Hiccup had finally landed some decisive blows against Lael, forcing him to take this fight even more seriously.
"Heather will be fine," Hiccup smiled. "I know that Eret and the twins can take of her."
Lael was furious with himself. 'I was careless; this new power of his took me by surprise.'
"That transformation of yours seems to be doing its toll," Lael noted. "Shame. The fight was just getting interesting."
"I don't care what happens to me so long as I beat you," said Hiccup.
"I see, how stubborn."
Eret and the twins were now climbing the stairs as quickly as they could; they had already wasted enough time with Lael. They could only hope that Spandam had sailed away with Heather just yet.
"Almost there," said Eret.
"Don't you dare leave yet, Heather!" Ruffnut yelled.
"We're coming to save you!" Tuffnut yelled.
At the Bridge of Hesitation, Spandam laughed as Heather used up all of her strength and released her grip on the bridge.
"Have you taken a look at yourself?" Spandam laughed. "I've never seen such a pathetic sight, really. Now that's enough, stand-up!" He then slammed his foot against her back. "Stand up! Stand up, dammit!"
Heather refused to budge an inch; she still had to buy as much time as she could for Hiccup and the others to get here.
"Give me a break," Spandam grumbled as he looked across the bridge. "The gate is right over there; we're so close. So annoying."
Spandam then pulled out a length of rope.
Meanwhile, the escort ship, the Marines immediately began forming up as per Spandam's orders.
"Guards, onto the bridge!"
"Yes, sir!"
"All right, men! Ready? Good, because Chief Spandam is on his way as we speak. He is delivering a specially heinous criminal across the bridge from the Tower of Law; this does not happen often. So, I want all Marines on the escort ships and all guards from the gate here in top form. Dear then, the best damn salute, you got?"
The Marines immediately saluted.
Spandam had tied Heather up so that he could drag her across the floor, and he smiled as he looked at the Marines that had lined up to salute him.
"Would you look at that?" he smiled. "All lined up and ready to sail. Not a thing left to stop me." He then looked back at Heather gleefully. "Oh, I almost forgot. There's a surprise waiting for your little friends. You see, before we crossed the bridge, I set up a landmine at the top of those stairs right over there.
So in the unlikely event that someone actually does come to save you, then they and the stairs will both go boom! Quite the elegant solution, don't you think? Well, I'm excited at least though I suppose neither of us should get our hopes up too much, seeing as no one will be coming to help you in the first place."
He then continued dragging Heather towards the gate.
"I… won't… go through… that gate," said Heather.
"What?" said Spandam looking back at her.
"I still believe that they will come to save me."
"They're not coming, okay! Sheesh, shut up! They will be burnt to a crisp just like everything else in the Buster Call path; you got that? Rather convenient, really, every humiliation that I suffered, including them, shooting down our flag will be erased as well. Just like before, 20 years ago, when the Marine giant attack on Draknar."
Heather's eyes widened.
"Now it's time to walk," said Spandam punching her. "That means on your own 2 feet, dammit!"
'Saul,' Heather breathed.
"Hurry up!" Spandam yelled, dragging her.
"Are you okay, chief?" a Marine asked. "Do you need help?"
"No! I don't need any help, damnit! I'm a bloody hero!" he snapped. He then looked back at Heather's smirking. "If you think I didn't know about that, then you're dead wrong. Your old friend Saul D Grindborn was a Vice-Admiral before he betrayed us. Your father, Oswald was an archaeologist, you have a long lost brother named Dagur, and I know about your hometown of Darknar as well.
Quite the tragic tale, isn't it? And why do I know this… well? It's quite simple. Because the man commanded the raid on Draknar, uncovered their crimes and then blew the irony to smithereens with a Buster Call… was the Chief of CP9 who preceded me. Otherwise known as my father, Spandine!"
Heather's eyes widened, and when she looked at Spandam closely, she could see a resemblance.
"At the time, they for the everybody in Darknar had been nicely eliminated, but they found out later that one little brat escaped through their fingers. So, how was it? Running from one money-grubber adult to the next, hoping that you would neither be killed or sold out?"
He then grabbed her head and forced her to look at him. "Not a single person you could trust no matter where you went. Nowhere to lay your little head down in peace. Nothing to eat. What a vile and wretched existence you had. Why it's too appalling to even think about."
Heather then began bursting into tears.
"Sad enough to make you cry, huh?" Spandam smirked. "10 years ago, my old man put that bounty on your little head all the world peace. Show some gratitude, will you? Now we finally have our happy ending, the son completes the father's crusade against the Devils of Darknar and the wrong 10 years ago have been made right at last. Darknar is dead!"
Heather was absolutely furious. If it wasn't for the fact that her hands were bound in Sea Prison Stone, she would have strangled Spandam by now.
"Darknar one to die so long I live!" Heather yelled.
"Yeah, and how long is that going to be, huh?" Spandam sneered.
It was then that they heard an explosion, much to Spandam's shock. For the explosion happened on the other side of the bridge, exactly where he left the landmine.
"I-it went off," he stared.
Then suddenly they saw falling off the bridge was Eret and he landed in the ocean.
"Eric Earlson?" Spandam stared. "What is he doing here? Well, no harm done. He felt the landmine. Idiot serves you right!"
Heather just sat there shocked. 'He came to rescue me.'
"Still, that was close," Spandam admitted. "It's a good thing I have my backup plan." He then continued to drag Heather towards the gate. "Come on, let's go."
'I'm so angry, I can't even speak,' said Heather furiously.
"All right, Marines set sail!" Spandam ordered."We're getting out of here now!"
"Understood, sir!"
"Everyone, move!"
"Yes, sir!"
'I can't hold back the tears anymore,' Heather cried.
Spandam laughed as he was just a few steps away from the gate. "Watch carefully, men. Because you're about to witness the first step of a hero that is destined to go down in history!"
Then when he was just one step away from the gate, a small explosion him in the back, sending him flying down the stairs. Heather was completely shocked and began following the trail of the explosion.
Spandam, meanwhile, had been tossed right down the stairs and hit the ground so hard that his lower torso was buried in the concrete.
"Are you okay, chief?" a Marine asked. "What happened?"
"He was hit! We're under attack!"
"There's no one on the bridge but us!"
"No, they must be hiding somewhere! Everybody start searching!"
"But where?"
Then suddenly, another explosion took out a Marine, and five seconds later, two more had been taken out. All the Marines that surrounded Heather and they couldn't figure out who was attacking.
"Hey, what's wrong with you!" Spandam yelled, picking himself up. "Fightback! Don't just stand there!"
"We're trying, sir, but we don't know where the enemy is at."
Heather knew who was responsible, and tears of joy were now falling out of her eyes.
"Uh, there…" said a Marine through a pair of binoculars. "Chief, over there!"
"What? Over where?" said Spandam looking deeply annoyed.
The Marine just stood there speechless, and when Spandam followed his gaze, he practically screamed. For standing on top of the Tower of Law with sniper rifle in hand was none other than Ragnar.
"He's standing on top of the Tower of Law!"
"What's he doing up there?" Spandam stared. "It's so far away! How the hell is he hitting us?"
"This guy is a monster!" said a Marine looking terrified. "The wind is blowing like crazy, and he's all the way over there, but he still hitting his mark every time!"
"Thank you, Ragnar," Heather cried.
Toothless and Snotlout were still in the garden observing everything.
"Got it handed to Ragnar; no one shoots like him," said Snotlout. "Serves you, right bastards! Come on, Heather, run!"
"Looks like it was a good call hanging back," said Toothless.
Spandam was absolutely furious, he was so close to winning, and he was not going to let it slip through his grasp. Ragnar then fired another shot hitting him right in the face.
"Chief!" the Marines yelled.
"Damnit, why are you idiots doing?" said Spandam. "Shoot that guy already!"
"We're trying, sir, But he's too far away for our bullets to reach, let alone actually hit him. I hate to say it, but he got totally outclassed."
Heather took this opportunity to make a run for it.
"Heather Owson is getting away!"
"Then stop her!" Spandam ordered. "Shoot her down!"
"Sir!" said the Marines aiming their rifles.
"Shoot her just enough to keep her alive," he added.
The Marines pointed their rifles at Heather, aiming for her legs, and unfortunately for her, there was no place to take cover. To make matters worse, Ragnar couldn't shoot down all the Marines in time, but just before he was about to pull his trigger, he saw something that made him stop.
"Fire!" Spandam ordered.
The Marines then fired, and Heather closed her eyes, but they never reached her. She looked up, and her eyes widened as shielding her was none other than Eret, who used his metal body to deflect the bullets.
"Who the hell is that?"
"Eret," said Heather.
"Looks like we got there just in time," said Tuffnut's voice.
Heather turned her head into astonishment as she saw the twins rushing over to her.
"Sorry we couldn't get here sooner; we have to fish Eret out of the sea," said Ruffnut.
"Ruff… Tuff…" Heather stared.
"Bullets are no problem when you're made of iron, but that landmine wasn't very nice, Spanda," said Eret narrowing his eyes at Spandam.
Spandam looked utterly terrified.
"Eret… Ruff… Tuff… come in," said Ragnar's voice over the transponder snail. "Do you really? This is Ragnar."
Eret pulled it out, looking confused. "Yeah, we can read you loud and clear, but…"
"How? I got the snail from Astrid," Ragnar explained. "If you turn around, you should be able to find a red bundle on the ground next to you."
"Red bundle?" Eret frowned.
They all turned and saw the red bundle just behind them.
"There it is," said Ruffnut.
"Good, it has three keys inside," Ragnar explained. "Together with the ones you have, that should be all of them."
Spandam's eyes widened in horror. "How did they get the keys?"
"Guess that's my mission complete," said Ragnar as he converted his sniper rifle back into two pistols.
"All right," Snotlout smiled.
"Let's go," said Toothless.
Eret began going through all the keys in order to unlock Heather's handcuffs. "One… number three… number four… number five… number six… number seven…" He twisted the key, and Heather's handcuffs were unlocked. "We've got it!"
Heather could scarcely believe her eyes as she looked at her now free hands.
Spandam had a hard time believing it as well. "No way! This cannot be happening to me!"
Heather merely collapsed, but Eret was able to capture.
"Whoa, hold on," said Eret as he kept her is nice and steady. "We're not in the clear yet."
"But wait," said Spandam as he tried to comprehend this. "That means… ahhh… they really did it? A bunch of useless pirates beat every last member of CP9! No, that can't be right. They must have just stolen the keys and run away. Bunch of cheaters!"
"Okay, we got it," said Eret talking into the transponder snail. "Hey, do you hear me? We got the handcuffs off, Heather, no problem."
"Thank you, Ragnar," said Heather gratefully. "That was wonderful."
"Wish I could take all the credit, but everyone pitched in to get those keys," said Ragnar smiling. "In any case were glad to have you back. Just hold your head up high and meet us with a smile when we get out of here."
Heather smiled and brushed the tears out of her eyes. "Right."
Heather then turned and faced Spandam, who was now very nervous. Understandably considering he had abused her both physically and mentally, and now she was about to bend all her rage against him.
"Six Flower!" said Heather.
Spandam watched fearfully as six arms sprouted from his chest. "What the?"
"Slap!" she said.
Then all six hands began slapping Spandam repeatedly nonstock. The sheer force of this attack was enough to knock Spandam off his feet, and even then, she continued to slap him.
"I been waiting a long time to do this," said Heather.
Tuffnut gulped. "Remind me never to get on her bad side."
"Slap him into death, Heather!" Ruffnut cheered.
After about five minutes of this, Heather finally stopped leaving Spandam in a bloodied pulp on the ground.
"Are you okay, chief?" the Marines asked.
"All right, let's move it," said Eret talking into the transponder snail. "Get your asses over here! I'll get everything ready for ya! We're going to bail!"
"Roger!" Ragnar yelled.
"We better get moving," said Toothless, looking at Snotlout.
Snotlout nodded, and then he heard a noise coming out across the sea. "What's that? I swear that I heard something."
Then suddenly there was a huge explosion.
