Happy 2021:) Hopefully, it will be better than its predecessor.

FYI I'll also be working on a few other fanfic stories this year, hopefully finishing one or two of them.

Star Wars

Twin Suns Early Rise

Chapter 3: Bad Dreaming

"Yahoo!"

Soaring across the hot skies above Tatoonie's sand-covered surface, Luke Skywalker, along with a few other of his buddies flew their T16-Skyhoppers through the treacherous terrains of Beggar's Canyon in an epic race.

Earlier, Luke's best friend Biggs Darklighter had just finished making modifications to his skyhopper to increase its speed and vector thrust. Upon completion, he decided to show off his upgraded craft to his friends. When he told everyone at Tosche Station about his plans to test out the craft in Beggar's Canyon his friends all started challenging him to a race, including Luke, to see how good the improved skyhopper was.

Biggs accepted of course, and in no time all the teens in the area were in the canyon either racing through zigzagged terrain or watching nearby at a safe distance.

This race was exactly what Luke needed after barely getting any sleep the previous night then followed by another gruesome day of running his uncle's moisture farm. The thrill of getting behind the controls and soaring across the landscape always managed to take away the daily stress that was Luke's life, bringing him a sense of peace like no other. It also somehow made him feel connected to his dead father who he never knew. Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker, had died before his birth, and his mother during childbirth. Other than that the only thing Luke knew about his parents was that his father had been a navigator on a spice freighter. Being a pilot was the only sort of connection Luke felt he had to his father, which made flying all the more important to him.

As he raced through the rocky terrains, passing Tank, coming in behind Biggs who was in the lead, Luke felt a strange feeling engulfed his mind. Like it was being drawn away from his body, to another world from another time...

There Luke was again, caught up in another one of his dreams. This time he stood atop a metal balcony overlooking a massive room with large windows on the opposite end from where he stood. Outside, to Luke's shock and amazement, he could see that he was not only in space but also an enormous battle was going on outside. Thousands of ships of different sizes and designs soared past the window, blasting one another to atoms.

Luke, however, was drawn away from the space battle going on by the sound of crackling energy down below from where he stood. Looking over the railing, Luke saw three individuals: an elderly-looking man in grey cloaking chained to an oversized chair right at the opposite end of the room. Before him, stood two men with glowing swords, (the source of the crackling energy), one blue and one red, clashing at one another in fast motions. Curious, Luke leaped down from the balcony and made his way towards the two figures duelling; hiding behind chairs, and tables scattered around the room as to not draw attention to himself.

Once at a closer distance, Luke managed to get a good look at the two people fighting. He recognized the one wielding the blue blade as the mysterious man from previous dreams; wearing the same dark brown robes that he always wore. His opponent, however, was someone Luke could not recognize at all. Not even from any past dreams. This man was much older, by far, compared to the mysterious man, and perhaps older than the man chained up. He had a white beard and wore a neatly pressed black tunic with matching trousers, along with a fancy brown cape.

Whoever this guy was, Luke thought, he certainly valued wealth and appearance.

The opponent also wielded a red blade, with a curved shaped handle; unlike that of the one used by the mysterious man's, which was more of a straight cylinder-shape. Of course Luke could've been seeing things wrong as the blades were moving super fast, the light of the blades almost blinding.

The two opponents were moving closer towards the man trapped in the chair by the window at the far end, with the mysterious man striking header and faster at the bearded man, whose blocks seemed to just barely keep the blue blade at bay. It seemed in Luke's mind that the mysterious man was going to win this fight.

This prediction came true when the mysterious man maneuvered his blade past the bearded man's, and turning it at a 360-degree angle, cut off both his opponent's hands. As a result, the curved handle of the red blade flew out of its wielder's hands, into the grip of the mysterious man's left hand. The mysterious man placed both his blade and that of his opponent in a cross position between the said opponent's neck.

"Good Anakin, good," cheered the imprisoned man. "Kill him," he then said. "Kill him now."

The room fell silent other than the humming noise of the two swords. Both the victor, loser and even Luke were shocked by the words of the imprisoned man. Though unlike the two opponents, Luke was shocked by what imprisoned man in the chair had called the mysterious man, Anakin, the same name as the young teens' father. Though it didn't seem logical to him. His father was a space navigator, not some cold-blooded killer. Besides, there must have been other humans with the same name as Luke's father. But on the other hand, Luke had never seen a single picture of either of his parents. Plus all these dreams that were centred around a mysterious figure who happened to have his deceased father's name couldn't just be a mere coincidence.

Before he could think about this further, or see whether or not Anakin killed his opponent, the sound of voices calling out to him filled his ears.

"LUKE!" "LUKE!" "LUKE!" "LUKE!"

At that moment Luke's dream ended and he was back in Beggar's Canyon, inside his T16-Skyhopper, with the sounds of his friends screaming into his headset.

"Luke, slow down. You won already."

"You're going crazy Wormie"

"There's a pillar up ahead!"

"You're gonna CRASH LUKE!"

Suddenly realizing Fixer was right, and that he was on a collision course with a nearby rock pillar, Luke took evasive action just mostly avoiding the overlong rock; with the end of his right-wing getting snapped off. As a result, Luke's T16 went flying around like crazy. Spinning and swirling all around until Luke gained enough control to make an emergency landing on the ground nearby.

His friends rushed on over towards the damaged sky craft to see if its owner was alright.

"Luke! Luke! Luke are you alright? Can you hear me?" Biggs cried out.

The cockpit opened up and to everyone's relief, Luke Skywalker sat inside, behind the controls fully alive and conscious.

"What the hell happened out there Luke?" Windy cried out.

"Yeah Wormie what the fuck!" Carrie commented.

Luke didn't respond. He simply sighed a breath of relief knowing he was alive and collapsed in his seat.

Luke rubbed his eyes while trying to figure out an explanation for what happened in the canyon. After damaging and almost crashing his T16-Skyhopper, Biggs took him back to the Lars Homestead in his own skyhopper with Luke's in tow. Meanwhile, Windy had taken the liberty of contacting Luke's aunt and uncle, informing them of what their nephew had just been through. When the two arrived at the farm, both Owen and Beru were outside waiting for them, then running right towards the skyhopper as it landed. Once they checked their nephew over to make sure he didn't have any serious injuries Owen began scolding Luke for wrecking the skyhopper, demanding an explanation. Though Luke was having difficulty coming up with one at the time.

Beru recommended they go into the dining room to talk it over in a more comfortable environment. Everyone agreed and they all headed on down to the underground rooms that made up the Lars Homestead. Beru prepared some food and drinks for her family and their guest. Still wasn't a pleasant time, however, as Luke couldn't come up with a good excuse for why he got the skyhopper damaged. Eventually Luke decided to come clean and admit the truth; regardless of how crazy it sounded.

"I've been having these dreams the last few nights, of a dark, mysterious man with a blue energy sword. In these dreams, he does terrible things, most of which involved murdering innocent beings. As I was racing I had another one of these dreams right when I was starting to think of my father."

Hearing this, Owen opened his mouth to speak when his wife raised a hand to silence him. "Go on Luke," she said in a comforting tone of voice.

"The dream took over and the next thing I know I was inside a massive chamber in space. I also saw the mysterious man again. This time he was in a fierce duel against an older man with a small white beard, and red energy sword. As they fought, another man was watching them, strapped to a chair. When the mysterious figure defeated the man with the red blade, the guy in the chair called him Anakin. Then... I was back in my skyhopper, hearing everyone call out to me after I apparently won the race."

"Have to admit he was doing pretty good job flying even if he was caught up in some dream," Biggs said Luke's defence. "He not only won but set a new course record. Honestly, I'm thinking if we all hadn't been distracting him with attempts to contact his headset, he might have been able to land safely without damaging his skyhopper."

"Augh," Owen groaned. "Luke for like the millionth time YOU ARE A MOISTURE FARMER! HAVE BEEN YOUR WHOLE LIFE AND ALWAYS WILL BE! So, get those dam dreams of flying the stars out of your thick head and get back to reality!"

"I don't want to be a farmer," Luke protested. He was furious that not only was his uncle was ignoring the part about Anakin, but also turning this into another one of his lectures on becoming a farmer. "I never have and never will. It worked out for you because that's what you're passionate about. But I'm a pilot. Have been my whole life. Why can't you just accept that and let me be who I am? And what about my father? I'm pretty sure he's somehow connected to this Anakin I've been seeing in my dreams. Could you maybe tell me a little more about what he was like? How he died perhaps?"

At this point, Owen was done. All the years Luke spent asking about his father and talking about leaving the farm to be a pilot, and the elderly farmer was sick of it.

"YOUR FATHER IS DEAD! DEAD! DEAD! DEAD!" Owen shouted. "He died because he had the same fucking, idiotic dreams you have of touching the stars. YOUR FATHER WAS NOTHING BUT A BLASTED NUISANCE TO OUR FAMILY! JUST LIKE YOU ARE NOW!"

Luke was taken aback by this. He and his uncle had always had their squabbles but this, this was too much for the young Skywalker boy. At the same time, Owen instantly regretted what he said. Sitting back down he attempted to regain his composure. As he did, he saw the hurt expression on his nephew's face, an expression on his wife that showed her disapproval towards her husband's outburst, and a look of disgust from Biggs.

"Luke, I-" Owen attempted to saw but was cut off by his nephew.

"You know what forget it," Luke said, standing up. "This why I didn't tell you about these dreams sooner. Because I knew you'd just shove it off and instead focus on the dam farm. It's all you ever think about." Luke then stormed out of the dining room without giving Biggs a farewell, or even a goodnight to Beru.

Once he was gone, Biggs decided he didn't feel like there any point in sticking around. He could barely look at his best friends' uncle right now anyway. So, he got up and headed back outside to where his skyhopper was parked, with Owen and Beru following him.

When he reached the flyer Bigged opened up the cockpit but before he got in he looked over at Owen one last time with angry brows over equally furious eyes.

"You could've been a lot nicer to Luke," he barked at the older farmer. "I mean he's clearly got problems going on in his mind, yet you aren't showing any signs of worry for him. Instead, you treat him like bantha fodder. You won't even talk to him about his father. I get that you have issues with your dead stepbrother, but that doesn't mean you can be a dick to his son."

"I am worried," Owen protested.

"Yeah, worried about how much work Luke will put into keeping this stinking farm of yours afloat," Biggs replied. "Seriously, would it kill you to show a little support for his dreams instead of focusing on your own desires to keep the farm alive after you're gone? You of all people should know that Luke isn't meant for a life of farming. So stop trying to force it on him and let him live his life how he wants to."

Biggs hopped into skyhopper, started it up, and flew off in the direction of Tatooine's setting twin suns. Once gone, Owen headed on down towards the garage where his landspeeder was parked. Beru followed her husband, concerned about what he might be doing now.

"Owen where are you going?"

"To talk to someone," Owen said not given a name or any hint as to who he was going to see as he got into the landspeeder.

But Beru knew her husband and it didn't take much for her to figure out who "someone" meant. "You know perhaps if we let him into Luke's life he could help him," she suggested.

"He'll only cause more harm than good. Just like his religion did to Anakin," Owen replied. Wasn't the first time Beru had suggested this, though it still made him grind his teeth every time she did.

"But what about these dreams Luke's been having about his father? Surely they must mean something."

As much as Owen hated to admit it, his wife was right, worse they involved a topic he himself had personally sworn to avoid. It's what made this little trip harder than it already was.

"I know," he admitted and turned on the speeder.

Jundland Wastes, a rocky area located between the Northern and Western Dune Seas of Tatooine. Comprised many layers of rocks that create a magnetic deposit that messes up most sensors. Few intelligent creatures travelled through the area, much less inhabit it. The only exceptions being Tusken Raiders, Jawas, and one old hermit named Ben Kenobi who lived in a small hut on the edge of the wastes.

Kenobi was known for keeping mostly to himself, only going into the market on rare occasions. Locals came to refer to him as a "strange old hermit" who rarely received guests, except for Jawas wishing to trade with, or a stubborn farmer who had an obvious dislike towards the hermit. Yet whenever this farmer visited him, which only happened under the rarest of occasions, Ben would welcome Owen Lars with open arms.

"Hello there."

"Don't you hello there me you crazy old worm," Owen snapped back rudely, but Ben wasn't taken aback. Instead, he chose to be the better man and act with kindness and generosity.

"Please come in," Ben said, stretching out his arm, indicating the nearby chair in the tiny hut that he called his home.

"Not in the mood for games Ben," Owen replied, declining Ben's offer of hospitality. "I need to talk to you about Luke."

"Yes, I hear Luke's become quite the pilot in Beggar's Canyon," Ben said, startling his guest with his apparent knowledge of Luke's little stunt. "How…?"

"Word travels fast on Tatooine. You of all people should know this."

Doing his best to keep his cool, Owen retold the old hermit what Luke had revealed at the homestead. "He claimed to have zoned out during the race. Had a vision of Anakin in a duel against a white-bearded man with a red laser sword."

Kenobi couldn't help gasping when hearing this. He recognized the duel that Owen spoke of as the one Anakin had had with Count Dooku during the rescue of Chancellor Palpatine near the end of the Clone Wars. Yet Luke couldn't possibly have known about this. Owen had been very clear from the day Kenobi had brought Luke to him, that he didn't want his nephew following in his father's footsteps. He doubted that the boy even knew that his father participated in the galactic-wide conflict.

"That's not all," Owen continued. "Apparently, he's had other dreams a handful of times of Anakin in the last while. Claims he did some horrible things like killing innocent beings. Do you know what's going on about that? Is there anything about my stepbrother you left out when you brought his son to us?"

Kenobi wasn't quick to respond. He'd never told Owen about Anakin falling to the dark side as he worried that the moisture farmer would refuse to take the infant in. He also didn't want Owen to tell Luke about his father's tragedy as he felt the boy needed proper training before being able to handle the burden. Yet if he was having visions from times before his birth..."

"He needs to learn Owen," Kenobi finally said. "His training is long overdue. Let me teach him to control his powers. Become the Jedi his father was during the Clone Wars."

"NO!" Owen shouted back in protest. "I've told you this over a thousand times before, NO! I WON'T LET YOU KILL HIM LIKE HIS FATHER!" Owen shouted before marching back towards his landspeeder.

"If you're somehow behind these dreams I will come over here and shoot your wrinkled old corpse until it's nothing but ashes," he added, then zoomed on back towards his family farm; leaving Kenobi all along in his tiny hut of a home.

After Owen had left, Kenobi went outside to meditate at the only time of day Tatooine felt cold.

Whether Owen agreed or not, the time for Luke to begin his Jedi training had come. During the previous night, the Jedi Master had felt a massive rift in the force. Something had happened, something huge, something far away from Tatooine, yet connected to the boy in some way; though Ben was not sure what exactly it was. Perhaps it involved his twin sister Leia. Whatever the case, the disturbance involved Luke somehow and combined with the boy's fallen dreams about his father, Obi-Wan Kenobi was certain that it meant great change was about to happen soon. That much the force was telling him.

Thought we could give Luke a bit more spotlight before Leia arrived when creating this chapter.
