Yo, I'm back with another chapter. It's insane to already have over 100 followers this fast and almost 100 favorites. I appreciate all the love this fic is getting, It's always nice to see something I write for fun being enjoyed by others too.
As for some criticism's, I'll respond to some of them. About the Yang part, yea I agree it was kinda abrupt and could've been pulled off way better. I'll put that on the list for when I go back and edit the first chapter. As for a claim that someone called this another shitty SI, like in my other fic I'll tell you guys the same. I AM NOT HACHIMAN, I like to hangout with friends, I like to talk to people, and a whole lot of other things. Only reason I could see someone say that is because I'm a teenage dude like him. Plus, I'm about to graduate too since I'm a senior. If you knew me in real life, I'd be deemed a "Normie" by our boy Hachiman. Another thing is what's wrong with Komachi Big Bro? I call my older brothers that sometimes, they're cool with it.
I hope that clears a few things on your mind. Again, I'm cool with constructive criticism, but don't come here to just trash on my work. Any writer hates that.
That's about it, so I hope you enjoy this one.
I slowly opened my eye, expecting to be greeted by the morning sun. But to my surprise, I wasn't. I tiredly rummaged through my pocket and pulled out my scroll. I slightly winced at the bright screen that beamed right at me.
"4:30 AM," it read. I sighed, I didn't want to get up, but I had to. I have to warm up for today after all.
So, begrudgingly, I rolled out of my sleeping bag and headed downstairs with my stuff in tow. The halls were barren, probably because everyone one was still sleeping. I headed into the locker room and went to my locker to put away my sleeping bag. I then grabbed a few things and went to brush my teeth, wash my face, and change my clothes. There was no point in showering right now, I'd only get dirty sooner or later.
Now that I looked a little less dead, I went to my locker again. This time, I took out the case with my weapon and the case with my armor. I set them upon the bench close to me. I unlocked the case with my armor and admired the fine craftsmanship. I had bracers, pauldrons, a chest and back piece. All of them were made of a fine and heavy steel crafted by the most talented Blacksmith's in Atlas. On the back piece of my armor, there was a small cutout for my magnet to show. They were in pristine condition because I had cleaned them up before I came here.
I strapped my armor on using the black belts attached to them. This process was slow, but I made sure they fit right and comfortable for me. I could feel a decent bit heavier but I was used to it by then. I closed the empty armor case and put it away.
My eye then made its way to the bigger case that held my weapon. This case had a fingerprint scanner that held it shut together. I put my thumb against the scanner and heard 2 sharp clicks, which signaled me that the latches were open. I took both of my hands and slowly opened the case.
I stared at the Abyss, the Abyss stared back.
My weapon was a simple yet deadly Greatsword, not a Longsword, not a Shortsword, but a Greatsword. My weapon was long, from my feet to my neck. It had a long hilt covered in a leather wrap with a sharp spike for a pommel. The hilt was a widened out "U" shape that was decorated with engraved flowy patterns. Past that was an extended part of the hilt, it was like a metal covering on the base of the blade. The base was decorated in the same engraved flowy patterns that made a wolf head. Then the actual blade was as black as the Abyss, but the edges were a sleek and shiny sliver.
I picked up my blade and felt the weight of it. I made sure my weapon was heavy and dense because if I ever let the blade become dull, it would make for a decent bashing weapon. As for the name of my sword, it was something basic but it didn't need to be complex. I named it for what it was meant to do, slay Grimm. So the name "The Grimm Slayer Greatsword" or for short "The Grimm Slayer" came to my head. It was a little cringe I admit, but I thought it was Badass. I had named it when I was younger, around when I attended combat school.
I put The Grimm Slayer on my back and let the magnet attach to it with a Clang. I closed my weapon case and put it back in my locker. I looked out the windows and noted it was still dark out but I could see the sun start to rise in the horizon. I hurried my way to an empty combat arena.
I looked around, not a single person in sight. I closed my eye and inhaled, then exhaled. I withdrew my sword from my back. The weight of my blade was a reminder that I now held a weapon that could kill. I reopened my eye and felt my senses sharpen as if I were in battle. I first started with a series of easy to perform combos with wide arcing slashes and precise thrusts. For a greatsword, you need momentum to effectively use it. So every combo was momentum and flow based.
Whenever I ended a combo with a slice/slam to the ground a loud "CLANG" could be heard. I always thought it sounded like a frying pan whenever I hit something. When I finished another combo, I noticed someone standing on the sideline. I looked over to see a red head girl looking right at me by the entrance of the combat arena. My senses dulled and my usual gloomy look took over. I noticed that she had her weapons on her, maybe she wanted to train as well.
"Sorry I didn't mean to stare! Please don't mind me and continue!" She apologized profusely.
I shook my head, "No, I was just about done." I said as I put my sword on my back.
"No, please don't leave. It'll seem like I'm kicking you out," the girl apologized again. The girl then walked up to me and I got a better look at her. She reminded me of someone I had seen before. I searched my brain before finally figuring out who it was.
"Aren't you Pyrrha Nikos?"
She seemed to freeze at my answer, the smile she wore even fakened.
"Ah yes I am! Are you a fan?" She asked me with a crafted front.
That made me raise an eyebrow, "No, but my little sister is," I answered.
She looked confused for a second, but kept smiling. "Oh would she like an autograph?"
I didn't answer for a moment but then I shrugged, "sure." I grabbed my wallet and pulled out a small picture. The picture was a selfie of me and Komachi.
"This your sister?"
"Yeah."
"She looks lovely," Pyrrha said. It sounded genuine this time.
"Alright," She pulled out a pen from nowhere and signed the front. Then she flipped it over to the back and wrote. "Your brother is a great fighter - Pyrrha Nikos." She then gave me back the picture.
"Thank you, I'll be sure to give this to her. Also, you didn't need to write the back part."
"No no, it's always wonderful to give back to my fans. Plus it's true, the way you swing your sword is very admirable." She said with a smile that didn't look fake.
Pyrrha didn't look like she was lying. I could feel myself blush at a genuine compliment I had gotten. "I'm average," I mumbled. I was never good with these types of things.
"No, I dont think I've ever seen anyone use a Greatsword so smoothly. May I know your name?"
"Hachiman Hikigaya," I bowed my head a little in respect.
"Hachiman Hikigaya… Nice to meet you. Once again, I'm Pyrrha Nikos." Pyrrha stuck her hand out for me to shake. I returned the gesture and gave a firm handshake. "So Hachiman, should we get some breakfast before our initiation starts?"
I raised an eyebrow, "Weren't you going to train?"
Pyrrha just gave me a confused look.
I pointed to the spear and shield on her back. "You brung your weapons. I assume you were going to train."
A look of realization appeared on her face. "Oh, I was going to train, but I'll be fine. I'd rather not fight with an empty stomach."
"You don't have to eat with me," I said.
"Huh?" Pyrrha said, confused.
"You don't have to eat with me out of some sort of obligation. It's fine if we went and did our own thing," I explained to her.
She didn't respond and instead studied me. Pyrrha's eyes roamed my face and then stared straight into my eye. She then shook her head, "If you were just any fan, I wouldn't have asked you. But to me, you seem like pleasant company and I'd like that right now." She said with a smile that looked genuine to my dead eye.
I couldn't help myself but blush in embarrassment again. I mentally cursed my hormones before giving a small nod. "Right… Let's get food then?" I managed to say it without stuttering like a fool.
Pyrrha giggled, "Cmon then, before it gets busy."
I nodded and followed Pyrrha out of the arena. As we walked the hallways, we could see some of our peers in their pajamas heading to the locker room to freshen up. Some of our peers focused their eyes on the girl next to me, and blatantly ignored me. I didn't mind that though, I don't like being the center of attention.
"So, Hachiman. How early did you wake up to train?"
I shrugged, "Probably around 4'ish."
"Is that your usual schedule?"
"It depends, but usually I sleep in."
"Really?"
"It's a bad habit of mine."
Pyrrha giggled, "I don't blame you. I do like to sleep in from time to time."
Soon we made it to the cafeteria. There were a small amount of people already here, but it was better than it being full. There were a number of things for breakfast. There was cereal, pancakes, waffles, sausage and eggs, and etc. I chose some waffles, sausage, and eggs. My waffles had syrup, cinnamon, and butter on top. I also got some coffee with milk and a lot of sugar in it.
We sat at a table relatively on the side away from the middle ones. I put The Grimmslayer under the bench we sat on, so it wouldn't get in the way while I ate. I looked at Pyrrha's plate and saw she had sausage, eggs, and hashbrown with a cup of milk.
Pyrrha glanced at my plate, "That's a lot of food. You sure you're not going to barf during the initiation?" She sweatdropped.
"I have a big appetite and a fast metabolism. So I have to eat a lot in order to keep myself nourished."
"Oh, I get it. Do you have a meal plan for yourself?"
"No, I just eat anything on the table. Though I do draw a line at tomatoes."
"Tomatoes? Are you allergic to them?"
"No, I just hate them."
Pyrrha giggled once again. "They're healthy for you, you know. A tomato a day keeps the doctor away!"
I rolled my eye, "I thought that saying was for apples..."
"Er yeah but I think it goes well for tomatoes as well."
"Doesn't matter, I still hate them."
Pyrrha just smiled as she shook her head good heartedly. As we ate our meal, I noted the influx of students entering the cafeteria. All of them were now in their own personal attire, and some had their weapons on them like me and Pyrrha. I even searched the crowd for Blake, but I didn't see her.
As we kept eating in silence, a person decided to interrupt the silence between us. I looked up and couldn't help, but widen my eye while also internally sighing. It seemed luck wasn't on my side because the younger Schnee had decided to make herself apparent here.
"Hello, Miss Pyrrha Nikos. I'm Weiss Schnee, may I sit here?" Weiss asked Pyrrha while ignoring me.
Pyrrha looked surprised, "O-oh, uh sure!" She said with a smile.
"Thank you." Weiss sat down with a tray of food which consisted of french toast and coffee. "So, Pyrrha… How's your morning? Are you enjoying the breakfast they have here?" Weiss asked.
"It's lovely. Me and Hachiman are thoroughly enjoying our meal."
'Damnit,' I thought. I was hoping to stay out of their conversation, but that isn't happening anymore.
Weiss looked at me and I could see the poorly hidden disgust on her face. "Hello, I'm Weiss Schnee. Nice to meet you."
I didn't want to reply to her, but I knew she'd take it as me ignoring her. If that were to happen, an argument would happen. I know that because of experience in the past with the ice queen. "Hachiman Hikigaya," I replied. 'That should be fine for now.'
Weiss then looked back at Pyrrha and started talking again. "So, Pyrrha… Have you decided on who's team you'd wanna be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong well-known individual such as yourself."
'The ass kissing is insane,' I thought. First time I've seen a Schnee suck up to someone this much. Plus teams were randomly made, though it seems it wasn't public knowledge. "Teams are made randomly," I blurted out on accident. 'Shit,' I thought. Now I'm involved in this conversation.
"Huh?" They both said.
I sighed and stopped eating. "Teams are made randomly. Anything else you hear is just rumors."
"How do you know that?" Weiss asked me with an eyebrow raised.
I didn't want to tell them that I've seen an initiation happen because only staff or actual students have seen it. If I did tell them, they'd question me and that would be a pain. So I did something I hated doing, which was lie. "I heard some staff talk about it yesterday."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah," I nodded.
Weiss roughly sighed, "That's unfortunate. Do you perhaps know how they're going to randomize teams?"
"No," I lied again. I'd rather end the conversation there before they ask more questions.
"Well that's rather unfortunate," Weiss said with disappointment.
"I don't think it's such a bad idea. If the school allows it, then it has to be a successful plan, right?" Pyrrha said to Weiss.
"I think it's a stupid idea," Weiss said with annoyance.
"What about you, Hachiman?"
"It's whatever," I shrugged.
The next few moments were filled with us eating our food. That didn't last very long because Weiss started talking again.
"Oh no…" Weiss uttered with dread. Her eyes locked onto something behind us.
"What?" Pyrrha turned to look back, but was quickly stopped by Weiss.
"Don't look back," Weiss said with seriousness.
"Why?" Pyrrha asked, confused.
"Because if you look back, you'll bring them here."
"Who?"
"The most insufferable people I've met yesterday," Weiss rubbed the bridge of her nose. She looked behind us once again and frowned. "Oh no, they're coming here."
"They can't be that bad," Pyrrha laughed off.
"Hey Weiss!" A high pitched voice said behind them.
"Sup, Icequeen!"
"Go away," Weiss said with irritation.
Me and Pyrrha got curious and turned back to face the newcomers? My eyes first landed on a short, black/red haired girl. She wore a gothic dress with a red cape on her back. My eye slightly widened when I saw her bright silver eyes. A far cry brighter than my own.
Then my eye landed on the taller girl next to her. A long lion's mane of golden yellow hair with a cowick on top. This one's eyes were a lovely lilac color. Her outfit was also quite revealing because she showed off a lot of skin.
Both of them looked very familiar to me, but didn't unders why. Oddly, they looked at me as if I was some kind of enigma. I felt a little uncomfortable since they stared at me with wide eyes.
"Hachiman…" The golden haired girl whispered out. "Hachiman!" They both yelled out. Before I could react, the golden haired girl threw herself on me while the black haired girl followed shortly after.
I couldn't utter a word out of shock, but I think it was mostly because the golden haired girl was squeezing me to death. I looked towards Pyrrha and Weiss who were giving me confused looks. It seemed Pyrrha saw my face turning blue because she said "Excuse me but I think you're suffocating him." Pyrrha sweatdropped as she tapped on their shoulders.
The silver eyed girl immediately got off me looking at me with worry. The other girl didn't get off me, but her hug did loosen up. My mind searched for who these girls could be. I had to dig deep in my thoughts and look through every crevice. My eye widened in surprise at who was hugging me.
"Y-Yang!?" I blurted out. This was probably a bad idea because her grip on me tightened once again.
"I knew you'd remember me…" she whispered softly in my ear. Yang pulled back to show me the widest smile I've possibly ever seen in my life. I couldn't help but blush a little.
I had to steel myself a little before saying "Yang, please, get off me…"
"Nope!" Yang said as she shifted a little to sit on my lap. That put me in an awkward position because I had one leg under the table while the other was outside. I glanced at everyone looking at us. Weiss gave us a blank stare, Pyrrha had a curious one, Ruby had an excited one.
"We're starting to make a scene…"
"Then we'll go somewhere else!" Yang immediately got off my lap and pulled me off my seat.
"W-wait, I gotta grab something!"
"What?" Yang said with an eyebrow raised. Her hand still holding mine.
I crouched down and grabbed The GrimmSlayer from underneath the bench. I didn't miss the wide eyes Weiss, Yand, and especially Ruby gave me.
"Holy shit!" Yang yelled.
"Language! Anyways… IS THAT YOUR WEAPON? It's so cool!" Ruby started examining the weapon in my hands.
"Yeah, not to mention huge," Yang said, amazed.
"It looks really heavy…" Weiss whispered to herself.
I really wish I didn't bring my sword here. It's kind of a nuisance to me as of now. I sighed, "Yes it's my weapon."
"What's it called? Can it change forms? How heavy is it? Can I hold it, please, please, please?" Ruby said in a fast voice with starry eyes.
"Woah calm down there, Rubes!" Yang said as she pulled Ruby away from me.
I felt sort of nostalgic at that moment. The last time I saw them was quite a while ago… Before the incident, which made me never see them again… A part of me said, I should keep it that way. That I should keep my distance from them, for their safety. But I couldn't because I, like many people, was selfish.
I smiled slightly, "It's fine, Yang." I then looked to Ruby, "My weapon is called The GrimmSlayer Greatsword or The GrimmSlayer for short."
"So cool…" Ruby whispered.
"It can't change form, but I don't need it to. As for the weight, try it out yourself." I pointed the hilt in her direction, she glanced at me before putting her small hands on the hilt.
*CLANG* That was the sound of the tip of The GrimmSlayer hitting the floor.
"It's super heavy! It's even heavier than my weapon!" Ruby cried aloud. She tried to lift the blade up but to no avail.
I chuckled slightly, "I made sure to use the most durable and heaviest metals." I watched in amusement as Ruby kept trying to lift my sword, but I felt something squeezing my bicep. I looked to see Yang giving me a flirty smirk, "You've definitely got the muscles to wield it~" I quickly shrugged off her hand. The blush on my face was prominent judging by how wide her smirk had gotten.
'When the hell did she become such a flirt?' I thought. I sighed and took my sword back from Ruby. She looked pretty disappointed, but I knew she'll get over it. I put The GrimmSlayer on my back and looked at Pyrrha. "I'll see you later if I don't come back." Then I looked at Ruby, I gave her a head pat before saying, "I'll catch up with you later. Me and your sister gotta catch up," I said as I glanced at Yang. I didn't say anything to Weiss because I really didn't talk to her.
"Later Rubes and Ice Queen!" Yang yelled out.
"Hey!" Weiss grumbled at the mention of her nickname.
Yang then dragged me out of the lunchroom and we started walking the pretty empty hallways. Weirdly, we walked in silence. It was unnerving because her hair shadowed her eyes. Then all of a sudden, I was thrown onto the wall and punched in my gut.
I grunted in pain and was about to hold my stomach, but was hugged. "That's for leaving me… You dumbass…"
I couldn't say anything off the bat because I was stunned and partially winded. When I left, I had cut all communications with them. I hesitated, but gradually returned the hug. I softly stroked Yang's golden hair, "Sorry…" I said.
"Sorry doesn't cut it," Yang pulled out of the hug and we locked eyes. I could see the hurt within them.
"Why did you just leave like that? Why did you just fade away from my life!?" Her lilac orbs were now a fiery red. That only happened when she was mad, no, pissed was more like it actually.
I frowned, "I had to, Yang. Ever since what happened that day. The day we went looking for your mom when we were only children. The day we almost died."
"That was my idea! I don't blame you for it!"
"You might not blame me, but your dad does… I could've convinced you to not do it. If I had done that, we wouldn't have almost died…"
"But we didn't! Uncle Qrow saved us!"
"Yeah… He did… But I still thought it was best if I cut you off."
"Why!?"
I sighed, I didn't want to lie to her or make up some shitty excuse. No, Yang didn't deserve that. "I promise I'll tell you one day. Just not right now, Yang." I told her with utter seriousness.
Quickly Yang brought up a fist to hit me in the face, but she didn't. Yang held herself back and brought her fist down. She closed her eyes and they returned to their original color. I breathed a sigh of relief but then I felt her roughly grab my shirt. She gave me a serious stare that dug deep in my soul.
"Do you promise to tell me the truth when you're ready?"
I nodded, "nothing but the truth one day." She released her grip on my shirt, but then Yang brought a hand up and stuck her pinky out.
"Pinky promise," Yang told me.
I was stunned, a pinky promise? It was utterly childish to swear on a pinky promise. So I brought my own hand up and interlaced her pinky with mine. "With every fiber of my being, I swear I'll tell the truth one day."
Once I said that, Yang visibly brightened up and smiled. We unlocked our pinkies and I was attacked with a quick hug from her again. She quickly let go and said, "C'mon let's take a walk." She gestured with a smile.
"So, Hachiman, what happened after you left?" Yang asked me with curiosity.
I guess she wants to know what I did after. I didn't see a problem with that, I do owe it to her. "I did my usual routine. Stay in school and take care of Komachi. Though I did start training soon after."
"I bet… Those muscles I felt were real to me," Yang teased.
"When did you get so flirty?" I asked with annoyance dripping in my tone. She took it lightly because of the embarrassed blush on my face.
"I'd say right around puberty."
I couldn't help but glance down to her chest, "right…"
Yang apparently noticed and hugged my arm, "I'll let you touch them~"
I immediately pulled my arm from her grasp, "Shut up." The blush on my face was now ten fold brighter.
This made Yang laugh and snort like a pig at my expense. "Anyway, how's Komachi? I haven't seen her in quite a while."
"She's doing fine." Thinking about my little sister made me think about Yangs. Ruby was pretty similar to Komachi in a lot of ways. Both could be cheerful, innocent, and cute(In a non-romantic way). Then I thought of something that didn't make sense.
"Wait… Why is Ruby here? Isn't she 2 years below us?"
"Ohhhh, yea it's a long story," Yang rubbed the back of her head. "Do you know about Roman Torchwick?"
I nodded.
"Well you see, Ruby kind of fended him off a few nights ago at a Dust store. She then ran into a huntress who kind of took her into custody for being at the crime scene. Then somehow, that led to her meeting the headmaster of Beacon! Then out of some miracle, she was asked to move up to years and attend here! Isn't it awesome!?" Yang yelled with excitement in her tone.
I had to stop myself from frowning, "Yeah, sure." I lied to Yang once again. 'I'll have to talk to Ozpin about this later.' I had an idea of why Ozpin made Ruby come here and I didn't like it in the slightest.
"So she's gonna be a student from now on?"
"Yup!"
"Aren't you worried about her because she's only 15?" I questioned.
Yang sighed, "Of course I'm worried; But I know she can handle herself pretty well. Plus I'm happy that I get to watch over her for a little while longer. You know?"
In a way, Yang was lucky. She had the chance to watch over her sister, I couldn't. But she was unlucky too. My sister was safe in Atlas, while hers was risking her life. So I shook my head in goodheartedness, "Sis con," I said.
Yang lightly jabbed my arm, "Like you're one to talk."
We walked the halls in silence, occasionally passing by a random student or two. The silence wasn't unpleasant, it was nice this time. It was like a little breather from our serious conversation before.
Yang suddenly stopped walking and looked at the ground. I stopped and stared at her with a raised eyebrow. I widened my eyes once I saw teardrops fall onto the floor. 'Breather over I guess…'
"I.. I miss this, you know…" Yang told me in a soft voice. She looked up and I could see the tears dripping down her face.
I could feel the guilt just eating me up alive. It hurt, it really hurt when I cut them off, but I had no choice… It was for their safety, rather than my own.
I reached out and brushed a few locks of her hair behind her ear. "I do too, Yang." I didn't know how to comfort other people, especially women. Though I did know how to comfort my sister. So I did something pretty affectionate to show I care. I used my hands to cup her face gently. Then I softly wiped away the tears with my thumbs.
We stayed like that for a few seconds. She stared into my eye while I focused on wiping her tears away. I could see her pupils dilate a little, but I paid them no attention. I never liked seeing a girl cry, I would always think "What if that girl was Komachi?" Of course, I wouldn't do this with anybody, but Yang wasn't anybody to me. Yang... Yang was a dear friend I had cut off long ago because I feared for her safety.
I didn't cut her off because we were in danger. I cut her off because I was the danger.
But now it was different I suppose, I was a trained Huntsman and Yang was a trained Huntress. This time, I was in a school surrounded by many other trained warriors. I also know, I have better control over "It."
I uncupped her face and stepped back. "Sorry if that was a little weird to you. I'm not very good with words, so I used my actions." I rubbed the back of my head in embarrassment.
I could see the surprise on Yang's face before she started to giggle. Then she finally burst out laughing like a maniac. Her laughing just made me more embarrassed. "Was it too weird?" I grumbled.
Yang gave me a bright smile and gave me another hug. "I think you just gave me more hugs than I've ever gotten in the past few years," I said.
"And I got a lot more for you, Dork," Yang said.
I shook my head good heartedly. I couldn't help but also give her a headpat. Cutely, she hummed in response.
Oddly, Yang didn't let go. So I had to end the hug. "Ok get off me, your boobs are squishing against my chest." It seemed to work because Yang broke the hug. "When did you become a pervert?"
"I'm not one."
"You're a teenage boy, they're all perverts." She said with a deadpan voice.
I shrugged, "fair enough. Though, that goes for the same with teenage girls. Considering you actually copped a feel of me earlier."
"Fine, you got me there," Yang put her hands up like she was surrendering. With a smile, Yang pointed down the hallway. "Let's go down to the locker room. I want to show you my weapon!"
"Alright."
We started walking down the hallway again. The air around us was pleasant, to put it.
"So why're you carrying your weapon? What was it called again?"
"The GrimSlayer or GrimmSlayer for short. I'm carrying it because I woke up earlier to warm up a little before initiation."
"Oh, I thought you hated waking up early. Well, pretty cool name, if edgy a bit." Yang teased.
"Yeah yeah."
"Y'know I never expected you to wield a sword as big as that one. I always thought you would use something like two daggers or maybe a simple short sword. Hell, maybe even a sniper or bow configuration in them somehow."
I shrugged, "That's what I thought. But when I tried to use smaller weapons, I just didn't like it. It didn't really feel right to me. So eventually I started using a Greatsword and it just stuck with me. Once I was comfortable using a Greatsword, I built The GrimmSlayer."
"Ooh," Yang marveled in wonder. "Hey, I got another question."
"Shoot."
"Why were you sitting with Ice Queen and Pyrrha Nikos?"
"By Ice Queen, you mean, Weiss, right?"
"Yeah."
"I'll start from the beginning. I woke up early to train, so I got ready and all that. I was swinging The GrimmSlayer in an empty arena then I noticed Pyrrha was watching me."
"She watched you?"
"Not in a weird way. She said I looked like a pretty good fighter, even if I don't think so."
Well, I haven't seen you fight, but don't discredit yourself. You know I hate it when you do that," Yang scolded me.
I just rolled my eye. "After our short conversation, she wanted to have breakfast with me. So I said what the heck and joined her for breakfast."
"Wait, Pyrrha Nikos asked you! To join her for Breakfast?" Yang asked, confused.
I rubbed the back of my head in embarrassment. "You make it sound like it's such a big deal."
"It kinda is! Not everyone can just do that, let alone get asked by her. When did you become such a player?" Yang teased me a little.
I grumbled, "I'm not one, Yang. It's just breakfast, it's not like she asked me to be her boyfriend or something."
"I'm just teasing," Yang smiled and lightly punched my arm. "So what about Weiss? Why was she there?"
"Try and recruit Pyrrha on her team," I shrugged.
"Really? Well, I could see it I guess. What about you? Do you have a team figured out?"
"Well, I can't really choose. Teams are going to be randomly made, after all."
"Really? Well, there goes my plans…" Yang sighed dejectedly.
"What plans?"
"It wasn't much. I was just going to make you a part of my team, that's about it." Yang smirked.
"What about Ruby?"
"I know I said I liked watching over her, but she still needs to stop sticking to me sometimes. Plus, it'll be good for her to make new friends. Oh sweet, we finally made it!" Yang said as we finally made it to the lockers. "C'mon I want to blow your mind already!" Yang quickly said as I followed her to her locker.
She punched in her code and the locker opened. It was a little messy and on the door was a picture of her and Ruby.
"Close your eye!" Yang ordered me.
I shrugged and did it. I could hear her pull something out from her locker and a few clicks could be heard.
"Ok, now you can look!"
I opened my eye and in front were her wrists or specifically the two bracelets that weren't there before.
"Your weapon's are bracelets?"
"Not quite! Just watch." She went into a regular boxing stance and the bracelets started shifting. The process was smooth and easy on the eyes, and finally they stopped shifting into their final form.
"Gauntlets?" I guessed.
"Shotgun Gauntlets," Yang corrected.
I nodded, a little impressed. "Pretty cool, I could see you using these things."
"Ember & Cecilia, that's the name I gave them."
"Sweet name. What made you want to use gauntlets?"
"You know I like punching stuff."
"Yeah, that makes sense."
Yang then shifted her gauntlets back into bracelets. "So where's your locker?"
"I'm locker number 8."
"Ah, good. Not that far then."
Then all of a sudden, I could hear a growl. Yang's face flared up like a tomato. "Sorry… I haven't eaten yet, ehehehe."
I rolled my eye, "we can buy something at the vending machine. I don't think you have much time to eat at the cafeteria."
"Alright, cool!" Yang followed me to two vending machines near the center of the locker room."
"Pick what you want. I'll pay."
"Uh, you sure?"
"Only reason you didn't eat was because you saw me, right?"
"I guess, thanks, Hachiman!" Yang then chose a simple filling protein shake. We went back to near her locker and started talking again. "Want some?" Yang offered.
"I'm fine, I already ate."
"Cmon, just a sip. I'll feel bad if you don't have some," she practically shoved the bottle in my face.
I sighed, "fine." I took a sip and let the flavor coat my mouth. I didn't really care about the indirect kiss. It's not even a kiss to begin with. "It's whatever. I can make a better one anyway."
"Ooh, I'd like to have one of your homemade protein shakes one day. I only get these bottles or the powder."
I shrugged, "sure just remind me."
"Yang, Hachiman!" A voice yelled. We looked in the voice's direction and saw Ruby with Weiss and Pyrrha following.
"Hey guys!" Ruby waved as she made her way towards us.
"Hello, again!" Pyrrha waved.
"Hey," Weiss said unenthusiastically.
"Are you and Hachiman done catching up?" Ruby asked Yang.
Yang snaked an arm around my neck and pulled me close. "Yup!" Yang said with a bright smile.
"Nice! Wait here, I wanna grab my weapon and show it off to everyone!" Ruby then ran off in search of her locker to grab her weapon.
"Guess, I'll grab mine too. Wanna come with Pyrrha?" Weiss asked.
"Oh, I'll be fine right here," Pyrrha replied.
Weiss shrugged and went away to get her weapon.
That left me, Yang, and Pyrrha together.
"So… Pyrrha Nikos. I don't think we've formally met. I'm Yang, nice to meet you!" Yang stuck a hand out for Pyrrha to shake.
"Nice to meet you, Yang. I'm Pyrrha." Pyrrha then shook hands with Yang. "You've got a good grip there, Yang." Pyrrha laughed a little uneased.
I raised my eyebrow in confusion? 'Was Yang trying to intimidate Pyrrha?' Nah, that wouldn't make sense. It'd also be out of character for her to do that.
"Oh, sorry," Yang said before finally letting go. That sounded like a lie, but I didn't pry.
The air around us now was kind of awkward, to be honest. Thankfully, Ruby came back just in time. "I'm back!"
"Hey, Rubes. Just in time," Yang said.
"For what?"
"Oh, nothing…"
"Right… Well, here's my weapon. Ta-da!" She presented a red hunk of metal that looked like it could transform.
"This is storage mode, it's easier for me to carry in this mode.." Then Ruby clicked a button and her weapon shifted into what looked like a rifle. "This is the rifle mode! It's a high caliber bolt action sniper rifle that can use fire, ice, electric, and even gravity dust rounds!"
"Ooh…" Pyrrha said intrigued.
"That's not it and now for the main event? I'd back up if I were you," Ruby said. We did as told and watched as she twirled the sniper rifle into a large scythe. I only knew one scythe user, and he was a drunk idiot. "I named her, Crescent Rose!"
"You chose a scythe?" For such a small stature, I wonder how she wielded such a huge scythe. I wonder how much it weighed.
"Yup! Pretty cool right?" Ruby said while twirling it around.
"Very unique!" Pyrrha complimented.
"Hey, let me hold it real quick." I asked.
"Huh? But it's my weapon…" Ruby pleaded.
I rolled my eye, "I'm not gonna take it from you. I just wanna see how heavy it is."
"Alright, fine," Ruby reluctantly handed over her weapon. To my surprise, it wasn't even heavy.
"It's not heavy, I made sure to use the lightest materials while keeping it sturdy. If it were as heavy as your sword, I'd have to be all muscly and gross."
"You need muscles, you know that?"
"I know, that's why I drink milk." Ruby said proudly.
I shook my head good heartedly. "Here," I handed her back Crescent Rose.
"Thanks," Ruby said as she hugged her scythe. I thought that was weird and I wasn't the only one who thought that considering Pyrrha's uneased expression. Yang looked like she was used to it, but she called Ruby a weirdo anyway.
"Hey, Pyrrha. Mind if we can look at your weapon?" Ruby asked Pyrrha.
Pyrrha looked surprised and then embarrassed. "Oh, sure, but my weapon is nothing special." She then drew the sword and shield from her back. "Akoúo̱ is my shield, Miló is my main weapon. Miló can shift into three forms. A shortsword, a spear, and then a rifle." Pyrrha then showed off its three forms which made Ruby "Ooh and Ahh."
Soon, Weiss came back with her weapon strapped to her hip. "I'm back, this time I have a real weapon. Better than a Gaudy scythe," Weiss mocked.
*Gasp* "You take that back!" Ruby pointed her finger at Weiss.
"No, I don't think I will. Anyway, take a look." Weiss unsheathed her weapon and let us examine it. It was a rapier with a revolver's cylinder to carry dust ammunition. It was a clean and sleek silver that looked of high quality.
"It looks like one of those multicolor pens you buy at the store," I chuckled.
"It kinda does," Yang started laughing along with Ruby. Pyrrha also started to giggle, but she held in her laughter.
Weiss's brow twitched, "Shut up you! Do not compare Myrtenaster to a damn pen!" She glared and shouted at all of us with an embarrassed blush.
I just rolled my eye, this Ice Queen was a mere snowflake compared to her sister. 'Snowflake, good nickname,' I thought. "Don't blame me, I was just making an observation," I shrugged.
"Yeah, Ice Queen. Why don't you, chill out?" Yang said with a grin. Ah yes, Yang's infamous terrible jokes or puns. Been awhile since I heard one, but it seemed they've never gotten better. Yet, I couldn't help but crack a grin. No matter how bad her jokes were, I'd always find amusement in them. Not because they were good jokes, but because they were absolutely terrible it was funny.
"Ugh, you people are insufferable," Weiss pinched the bridge of her nose.
"C'mon it was funny!" Yang looked around to see her joke fall flat, but she did notice the grin on my face. "See, it made Hachiman laugh! At Least someone understands true comedy."
"I'm grinning because your joke was so bad, it's funny,"
"I'll take it as a compliment."
In the middle of our conversation, Glynda came on the Intercoms for everyone to hear. "May all first year students, please head to Beacon cliff for initiation."
This chapter was going to be way longer because I thought I was gonna squeeze in the initiation, but I couldn't. Like maybe twice as long as this one. Instead of doing that, I slashed it in half and saved the initiation for the next chapter. So, sorry if you were expecting a fight in this chapter.
Now onto what you think of this one. If you were wondering about what Hachiman's weapon looks like, it's The Greatsword of Artorias. It's the Dark Souls 1 version and not any other version. I know in some pictures it looks blue, but that's just because of the lighting. The blade is black as it should be, but that's not to say the blade won't look blue in the right lighting. I might have an idea for that. In the pictures, the sword doesn't look heavy, but just imagine it does.
Also, I know at least one of you thought that Hachiman would get the DragonSlayer from Berserk. I thought about it for a while, but then decided on The Greatsword of Artorias. It's more unique to him and besides, Artorias is based on Guts. I hope you guys like the name too, The GrimmSlayer. It's not the most unique name I could think of, but I think it does the job well.
As for the armor, think of Goblin Slayer's armor. He has the Forearm guards, the Pauldrons, and the Cuirass. On the back of the Cuirass, there is a hole made fit for the magnet to carry his sword. Also like I said, the suspenders Hachiman wears are based on Cloud Strife's. So there is the leather that wraps around his abdomen.
Now, what'd you guys think of the moment Yang and Hachiman had? I know the impact might not be that great considering I don't have any chapters to build upon their friendship from before. But I think I did a decent job. I feel like I wrote her emotions real enough for you to understand.
How about the other characters? Most of them should be in character for the most part. Blake and Weiss are hard for me because I'm thinking about changing their circumstances. I already have a plan for Blake, but Weiss is still in the works.
So, how do you guys think teams are gonna go? Who's gonna be on who's team? Who's gonna be the leader of said teams? I already know what I'm gonna do, but I want to hear it from y'all. I know some of y'all must be wondering about how Hachiman was the danger to Yang. Let's just say it's an appetizer before the full course meal.
I think that's all I have to say for now. Once again, constructive criticism is always welcome but no flames of course. I hope you enjoyed it, and have a good one.
