OK, yeah… I know… I am trying to write too many fics at once, right? So sue me. [OK, actually please don't, I wouldn't be able to afford a lawyer.] Quarantine has been making me want to get back to writing, and what better way to motivate me to write more than overloading myself with lots of fics to work on at once?
Okay, so enough of my rambling. You came here for some Rayllum! And I am here to oblige. So, now I present to you my Rayllum High School AU.
Callum woke up like any other day. Little did he know just how much was going to change that day. Everything started out normal. The alarm on his phone went off, playing classical music at a volume just loud enough to drag him out of his sleep. He groaned, and shut off his alarm, sitting up in his bed. He stretched his arms up above his head and groaned, relieving the kinks in his shoulders and arms.
Finally, Callum stood up, throwing on a pair of comfy slippers, and walked still slightly groggily down the hallway. He didn't think twice about what his mother, Sarai, was doing frantically running through the guest bedroom. He was too tired to care. It wasn't until he had poured himself a bowl of cold cereal that his Sarai's strange actions began to make him curious. That could wait. First, food.
After quickly eating a large bowl of corn puffs, he placed his dishes in the kitchen sink, then walked back past the guest bedroom. He poked his head in to see Sarai arranging basic furniture, and restocking the guest bathroom. "Mom? What's going on?" Callum asked, walking in and sitting on the armchair in the corner. "The Last time you were like this was when Aunt Amaya had to stay for a month because her roof caved in," he said jokingly.
Sarai looked up from what she was doing, and smiled warmly at her son. "Good morning Callum. I'm getting ready for the foreign exchange student we're hosting. You remember the Xadian that Harrow was trying to get the board to let in? They said he could, given that he would provide a place for them to stay." Her smile changed to a sarcastic smirk, as she said: "Of course you're father decided that he didn't need to tell me about it until the day before the Xadian is supposed to be here, so now here we are." She laughed as she added the last bit.
Callum joined her in her laughter, .but inside he was nervous. An exchange student in his house? That could end badly. Callum already attracted enough attention being the headmaster's step-son. Just as Callum was thinking this, another head poked in through the door. "Morning Mom! Morning Callum!" It was his younger half-brother, Ezran.
"Morning Ez," Callum said, getting up, and walking out the door. He ruffled Ezran's hair before walking back to his bedroom. Callum was able to hear Ezran ask Sarai what the commotion was before he closed his bedroom door. He changed into a loose-fitting blue T-shirt, and jeans and wrapped his red scarf around his neck carefully. He walked over to his desk, grabbed a few loose sheets of homework, his pencils, and his sketchbook, and placed them in his satchel. He walked back to the guest bedroom and gave his mom a hug. "Bye Mom. Love ya!" he called as he jogged out towards the front door.
"I love you too Cal! Be safe! Have a good day!" she called after him as she got back to her frantic cleaning. Ezran at this point was already at the table munching on whatever sugary cereal he decided to eat today.
It was only the second week of school, but Callum was already out of the whole back-to-school-excitement that was typically buzzing in most students at this point. He walked down his street to the bus stop, sat on a nearby half-wall that held a number of plants. He flipped open his satchel and pulled out his sketchbook and a pencil. He sighed, looking around for some inspiration. There was nothing that he could see that made him want to draw.
Callum sighed, putting his head down in his sketchbook. He sat up, closed it, and put it back in his satchel, closing the flap. He had been struggling with some major art block for weeks now. This was the worst case he'd had in years. He sighed again, thinking about how many times he'd drawn the same plants at the same bus stop. He was in the middle of this thought when two more students walked up to the bus stop.
Callum looked up to see his two best friends, Claudia and Soren. Claudia was wearing her usual black T-shirt and shorts, while Soren wore a white tank-top with a pair of black warmups. "What's up, Callum?" Soren said, punching him on the shoulder a little harder than Callum liked. He sat on the half-wall next to him relaxing comfortably. Claudia sat on Callum's other side a little more straight-up than her older brother.
"Oh, the usual. Sitting here. Trying to draw something. Art block sucks, man!" He said, his hands spread in front of him showing his immense frustration.
"I'm sure you'll find something to inspire you," Claudia added, her bubbly attitude a total opposite to her choice of attire. "Who knows, maybe today will be the day, huh?"
Callum forced a smile, but he was pretty sure that today was definitely not the day. What he didn't know was just how wrong he was…
Alright, I got this down. I am pretty excited about this one. Also, please read my profile. I have an announcement that I don't feel like typing up multiple times on there.
