Chapter 3: Mr Unsmiley… for Yakuza Base ACT 1
(Minor Spoilers for MHA, Minor Blood and Gore)
Now Playing Air Fleet
Both Shadow and Tails were running as fast as they could. Shadow was carrying an assault rifle, left behind by one of the G.U.N. soldiers, while Tails had a homemade laser weapon. "This way!" The fox shouted, leading Shadow towards The President's escape pod.
Shadow stopped for a moment, sensing danger close by. "GET BACK!" He shouted, shoving Tails behind before a Black Oak could crush him. The giant alien roared and charged as Shadow and Tails fired their weapons. The sudden noise caused the alien to rear back, both weapons doing nothing against it.
The Black Oak charged again, slamming it's arm into Tails and launching him to a nearby window, cracking it. It tried to do the same with Shadow, but he jumped up. While in midair, he grabbed one of the knives attached to his waist, and dug into the monster's head. It collapsed in a heap, slowly bleeding out.
Shadow then rushed over to Tails. His head was cracked, and bleeding ever so slightly from the wound. Tails' left arm was also bent at an odd angle. "Shit, shit, shit." Shadow had hurt a lot of people. He's not going to let anyone else die, not anymore.
He grabbed a first aid kit from a fallen soldier, and immediately began wrapping Tails' head in gauze, trying to stop the bleeding. If he was lucky, the fox would only need a few stitches. Shadow propped Tails' on his shoulders, and started skating as fast as he could.
He went down the hallway, eliminating any aliens he could find. The Black Arm's green blood was covering the dried blood on his shoes and gloves. Some of it was getting on Tails' yellow fur.
"Hey, Shadow? What… what time is it?" Tails asked. Shadow slowed, eventually stopping entirely. He turned to a nearby window, watching the orange glow of the sun as it fell beyond the horizon. "It's sunset. Why?"
"The sun's beautiful, isn't it? When it rises… When it sets… But there's something different about it today. I guess I've always taken sunsets for granted. I'm afraid of nightfall tonight... " The young fox was about to close his eyes, until Shadow shook him awake. "Not yet. We still have a job to do."
Pause
The sun in this world was also different. It was probably warm and welcoming at some point, but something about it was changing. It was still warm, but it was not welcoming, and according to the news, heatwaves were starting to become more common. It was mid-March, but the temperature was similar to that of summer afternoon in July (at least according to the weather forecasters).
Was this Solaris' doing? Despite being the God of the Sun, it never had any actual power of the ball of gas, and manipulated time instead. Perhaps it's just a result of global warming. Or maybe, Solaris really was affecting this world's sun, somehow. Regardless, it made Shadow feel unwelcome. Not that he cared. Even if he wasn't from this world, he's going to protect every single last one of them, whether they want his help or not.
While heading home from school, something crashed into Shadow from behind, and he heard a soft cry and thud. When he turned around, he saw a short girl, presumably a child, white long white hair, wearing only a tan dress. She had a stub of a horn coming out of her head, and had bandages covering both arms and legs. Shadow extended an arm and pulled her up (He was fifty years older than her, and yet she was still four inches taller than him. Damn these mobian bodies). As he did, he felt residual Chaos Energy coming off of her.
"You OK?" He asked. The girl was trembling, but nodded. His forehead glistened with sweat. Eyeing the bandages, he asked, "Everything good back home?" This time, she hesitates, and eventually nods again. Concerning. "Where are you parents?" He asks. The girl muttered something, but it was silent who could barely pick it up. "I… don't know."
Shadow's convinced that this girl is being abused, but he doesn't know to what extent. He wants to leave this to the local police force, but he can't. Most of them, even the top-rated heroes, seemed fairly incompetent at protecting the people. Then again, it's not like GUN is any better, and they have the added benefit of Shadow, Rouge, and Omega in their ranks.
Shadow extends a hand. "You can stay with me, until we find your… parents." The girl's eyes widened in disbelief. She shakes her head, muttering "No thank you." It almost sounded like she was pleading, like she wanted Shadow to forget she saw her and go along his merry way. So naturally, he did the exact opposite.
"It'll be dark soon, and the news said there'd be rain tonight. You'll get a cold. Not to mention, this part of town is known to a few villains. You'll be a lot safer with us." Sensing he wasn't going to take no for an answer, she reluctantly (and guiltily, for some reason) took Shadow's gloved hand and let him lead her back home.
Halfway to his house, Shadow noticed the girl's eyes widened. When he turned, he saw a tall blonde man was following them. He had a katana attached to his hip. Since many observers turned a blind eye, they obviously assumed he was a hero. But the vibe the hedgehog got from him wasn't much different than any hero he's seen.
Shadow considered him to be the girl's parent, but they looked much too different from each other. Also, he probably would've said something already, instead of creepily following him.
Shadow stopped walking and gently set the girl down, before giving the man the biggest death glare of his life. "What do you want?" The man flinched, and so did the child, even though she was behind him.
"Not taking any shit, huh. In that case, I'll cut straight to the chase. You see, little Eri needs to come with me. You let her go, and I'll spare your life. How does that sound, rat? Come here, Eri!" The blonde beckoned to the girl, Eri, and after a moment, she began to walk towards him, who was trembling hard enough to cause an earthquake.
Until Shadow stepped in front of her. "She's not going anywhere."
The man sighed. "Your call." He unsheathed his blade, and rushed towards Shadow. He brought the sword downwa-
"Chaos Control."
Before he did anything, he turned towards the Eri. As predicted, she's still able to move slightly, moving like a snail on the side of the road. She's held a Chaos Emerald before.
Nodding, Shadow jumped up and grabbed a fistful of the blonde's hair, slamming him into the ground face first. He didn't know if this would actually knock him out, so for good measure, Shadow threw the man as far as he could. Hopefully to the next city over.
When time resumed, Shadow turned to Eri, who had a look of both awe and fear. Shadow sighed. "What the hell happened to you?"
After living with Sonic for four months, Silver had become desensitized from strange things he tends to bring home.
He always brings souvenirs and food from various places around the world. He's been to Russia, The States, Egypt, Paris, and Antarctica. He had matryoshka dolls, maracas, nutcrackers, tens of african masks, and snowglobes from every city he's visited. He even has a remaster of an old movie from before quirks: Who Killed Captain Alex? They're haphazardly placed in every crevice in the room. Even when it looks crowded, he still manages to find room for his new souvenirs somewhere.
Silver was on the security laptop, scrolling through Netflix in order to find something new to watch. He continued to scroll until he heard the front door open. No amount of Sonic's strange object would prepare him for what Shadow brought with him.
"Hey Shaaaaaaaaa… Um… That's a person, right? Of the child variety?"
Shadow nodded. "This is Eri. Keep her busy for a while, I need to check something," he said, and then he left for the basement, leaving the clueless hedgehog with the timid girl.
The minute he left, Eri went and hid behind a chair. When he tried to get a look at her, she just shimmied over to the side. Silver pouted. He didn't know what was going on with this girl, but he wanted to help.
"Hey there. My name's Jiyusaki Nezumi, but my brothers call me Silver. Can I ask for your name?" He asked. Using his psychokinesis, he nudged the chair she was holding onto by a miniscule amount, and he managed to get a glimpse of the girl's crimson eye.
Slowly, she walked away from her hiding chair and looked down at Silver (quite literally, he's 4 inches shorter than her. He didn't know how to feel about that) and tried to put on a false mask of confidence. "Eri," She said. She tried to twist her slips into a smile but she couldn't.
"Well, nice to meet you, Eri. Want something to eat?" He took her by the hand and led her to the kitchen. "We'll get you some warm clothes too. That dress doesn't look very clean." It looked like something people from his time would wear.
He opened the fridge and rummaged through its contents. It was mostly filled with ingredients, bizarre foods that Sonic brought with him, like tacos, and leftovers from yesterday's dinner. He doubted she would appreciate such… appealing food, so he left the decision to her. "What do you wanna eat?"
She picked an apple out of the fridge, hopped onto a chair, and started eating. "Are you sure you don't want anything else?" Silver asked. She shook her head, and took another bite. "Alright…" He went into Shadow's room, and picked out some clothes for her to change into (He's the only one who actually does his laundry).
As Silver handed the clothes to Eri, Shadow came out of the basement, clutching the purple Chaos Emerald in his hand. "So, what did you find?" Silver asked. "Somebody induced Chaos Control. It's not too far from here; it'll be an in-and-out operation."
"Great! That'll mean we're one step closer to beating Solaris for good! Oh, but what are we going to do about Eri?"
"There's a few questions I want to ask her," The black hedgehog replied, eyeing the jewel. "Sonic will be sitting out today, so he can take care of her while we take back the Emerald."
"All right then, I'll give him a call. He should be at the arcade right now, but I don't think he'll mind taking care of Eri."
"It's not like he had a choice in the matter."
When Eri came out, her dress was replaced with a red striped t-shirt and pitch-black overalls, and wearing a pair of sneakers that lit when walking.
"You feeling OK, Eri?" Shadow asked, in a surprisingly gentle voice. Even his eyes lost their typical hardness. Based on what Sonic said, the last time he used that tone was…
Eri nodded.
"Can I ask you a few questions?" Again she nodded. Shadow showed her the Emerald. It's purple light gently illuminated the room. And Eri started to panic.
"Please, keep that away from me! I'll hurt you!" Silver grabbed the gem with his psychic powers, and threw it straight into the basement, leaving a hole in the floor in front of him. Shadow gave him a sharp glare, before returning his attention to Eri. He hugged her, and she slowly started to calm down.
"I'm sorry for scaring you. Will you still answer my questions?" He asked, rubbing her back gently. She nodded. "Thank you."
"First, why are you wearing those bandages?" She removed the bandages on arm, and showed the hedgehogs a mess of scars and incorrectly healed skin.
"Who the hell did this to you!?" Silver shouted, causing Eri to flinch. He swore silently. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. It's just…" He's seen people commit atrocities out of desperation in his time. But this? Destroying a girl, a child for any reason made them a monster worse than the Flames of Disaster.
Silver made eye contact with Shadow. The black hedgehog nodded, and turned back to Eri. "Why are there people hurting you?"
"I don't know why." Shadow looked furious, and his inhibitor rings started glowing red. "Alright, I have one more question for you, and I want you to answer me as honestly as you can. Even if there are parts you cannot remember. Can you do that?" Eri nodded. Shadow took a breath.
"Have you seen any gems that looked like the one I showed you?" She nodded. "When you touched it, what happened?"
"When I…? I th-think my Quirk went crazy. It hurt a lot of people, in a different way. I remember wanting to go outside. Then, I was outside. I dropped the pretty stone and ran." Silver slowly absorbed the information with Shadow. "Eri, thank you for answering his questions." He said, with a great big smile.
With that, the door opened once more, and Sonic burst inside. "What up guys? I got some food from 7-Eleven! Shame they don't have slurpees though. Maybe I should take a quick trip to the States… Hey, this Eri, right?"
"And you'll be taking care of her while we retrieve the Emerald, understand faker?" Sonic rolled his eyes. "You got it boss. And don't worry, I'll keep her safe, I promise." Shadow allowed himself a smile before heading into the basement. "Silver, let's go."
Now armed with the red Chaos Emerald, Shadow transported the duo to the front door of a series of office buildings. He pocketed the Emerald and began inspecting the building, like a demolition expert figuring out where to place a pack of dynamite.
"This is the place, right?" Shadow nodded, and handed Silver the blueprints to the building. "The building doesn't have any labs or facilities, meaning that they were either created after, or they were hidden from the documents for some reason."
"You think there's an underground base inside?"
"More than likely." Shadow replied. Silver hummed. "Alright then. What's the game plan?"
Now Playing The Ark
"Simple. We break them. You might want to stand back." Silver floated a good 20 meters away, as Shadow's form began to glow bright red.
"Chaos… BLAST!"
Shadow released a pure destructive force, annihilating the building and creating a large crater that revealed a secret passageway. Silver brought himself down next to Shadow. "With that stunt you pulled, we'll only have a few minutes before the heroes show up."
"Hmph. This should only take two." He jumped down, closely followed by Silver, and they both shot forward, beginning their search in the labyrinthine compound.
Along the way, a siren of sorts started blaring, and low level thugs started clamoring through the halls. "How pathetic. Silver!"
"On it!" Using his psychokinesis, he picked up the closest Yakuza members, and threw them into their comrades. Anybody who wasn't knocked unconscious then and there were picked off by Shadow's Chaos Spear. Unlike the man from a few minutes ago, they did not have plague masks. Perhaps it's a symbol of higher level members, Shadow thought, as he curled up into a ball and slammed into every living thing in sight.
It turns out some of the thugs had projectile quirks. Not that it mattered. One of them started shooting fingernails at him at the speed of a bullet. It might have caused some damage to a normal person, but Shadow wasn't a normal person; he is the Ultimate Lifeform. He began charging another Chaos Blast, causing any and all attacks to bounce off him harmlessly. In a dramatic fashion, he spread his arms, and let the shockwave loose, caving in the walls and giving those close enough third degree burns.
Eventually, he and Silver split up, not that it mattered. In a few minutes the compound will be nothing more than a crater. Them splitting up only meant the process will speed up. Shadow released another volley of Chaos Spears, downing another ten or so Yakuza.
After a while Shadow stopped, and curled up into a ball again, rapidly spinning, gaining as much momentum as he could. As he did, he began to absorb orbs of light, he stopped spinning, and was surrounded in a deep red aura. Shadow released energy, and began moving as fast as light, effortlessly leveling more than half of the compound on his own.
From that moment on, every single Yakuza member started running away at the sight of him. Except for one that is.
Shadow kicked open a door, the only thing on the other side was a circular room, and one large man wearing a plague mask, kneeling. "So, you're the ones playing games with the Hassaikai's army?" He rose to his full height and promptly entered a battle stance. "Might I have the name of my opponent, before I annihilate you?"
"My name is Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog, the world's Ultimate Lifeform. And you are nothing more than a black mark on the floor!" Shadow jumped forward and thrust his arm forward, readying a Chaos Spear. With unnatural speed, he launched a series of rapid punches, only managing to hit the air in front of him.
"You're too slow." Before the man could react, Shadow reappeared behind him and placed the tips of his fingers on the man's head, and released the buildup of energy. He was knocked out instantaneously. For good measure, Shadow placed a foot over his torso and activated his shoes, leaving an ugly burn.
He placed a finger to his ear and turned on his comm. "Silver, have you found the Emerald yet?"
"I might have. There's some guys wearing plague masks, and one of them has a safe. I think I can sense the Emerald's power."
"Good. I'll leave that to you then. I'll focus on destroying the compound, alright?"
"You got it boss!" The plague mask guys were a few meters in front of him. One of the guys tried running into the walls, probably to activate his quirk. Because he was light enough to carry, Silver used him as a weapon and proceeded to smack everybody silly. There was just one more guy, the one carrying the safe. Silver threw the tiny man at him…
Pause
And he exploded. Blood and organs rained down, leaving the remaining person covered in them. Silver stopped dead in his tracks.
He turned around, and started drying himself off. "I see, you're nothing more than a child, and a young one at that." Silver steeled himself. He reactivated his psychic energy, and started floating again. "You're the very definition of what's wrong with this society. You're… oh what's this?"
For some reason, he stopped his monologue, and examined Silver closely. It unnerved Silver slightly. He tore out a section of the wall and got ready to throw. "You're not like the other scum, are you? You've faced hardships even greater than what this world can offer, haven't you? I can see it in your eyes."
Silver scoffed. "I lived in a hellscape before this. You might scare me, but I'm not going to use fear as an excuse to run away. You're going to pay for what you did to Eri."
The man studied him. "I was wondering what happened to the girl. How you managed to take her away is still beyond me. Regardless… " He destroyed the safe and began absorbing power from the cyan Emerald. "You'll make a great test subject for my new power."
Now Playing The Resurrection of Mephiles
Shigaraki stumbled out of a hastily made portal out of Deika City. He looked back at the carnage he created, all by himself. More than half the city was a pile of dust, and the other half still had fires raging all over. His breathing hitched as he realized he was missing an arm. He clutched the Phantom Ruby with his surviving limb, and missing arm regrew, good as new.
Now, onto more important matters.
"SOLARIS!" The… well, whatever it was, materialized before him floating down gently, until it touched the ground. "You told me the Ruby would make me unstoppable! I would become immortal! So why the hell did I lose to those damn freaks!?" Solaris began making a noise. It took a moment to realize that it was chuckling.

Solaris raised an arm, and a red eye-like portal tore into reality. From the eyes, monsters made of fire and lava began to fall out. Golems, beasts, phoenixs and worms rained down until hundreds, maybe even thousands of them stood, ready and waiting.
And then a smaller portal opened up, only dropping a crate full of blueprints. Shigaraki looked them over. As to why they were egg themed, he wouldn't understand. But they made up for it in their destructive power.
Clutching the Ruby, Shigaraki brought on the creations to life, the Egg Emperor. Shigaraki's rage towards Solaris diminished, being replaced by giddy excitement.
Deika City won't know what hit it. It'll be dead before it realized.
Name: Eri
Chaos Quirk: Reset
The evolved form of Rewind, when Eri is exposed to the power of a Chaos Emerald. It generates a field of Chaos Energy that can rewinds anybody exposed to the energy back to a previous point in time. They will not remember anything that happened to them, and their minds will be reset to where the rewind process has left them. This also causes the target to become physically younger, heal injuries, and undo bodily modifications. Eri is also capable of using Chaos Control.
