Teddy ran to Owen not caring how it looked to those around her.
"Owen," Teddy shouted.
"Teddy," he replied, taking her in his arms as soon as he reached her.
Momentarily forgetting she was at work and in uniform she kissed him passionately. Nearby someone whistled.
"I missed you," she whispered, pulling back.
"I missed you two," he smiled resting his forehead against hers, "both of you."
"At home," she whispered as his hand travelled down her side.
"Your office," he asked.
"I have a couple things to finish up for the day then we'll go home," she said.
Around them people stared and whispered. Teddy was known for keeping her personal life private, she had friends and went out with groups but this was unusual. Who was the man with her?
"You look tired," he said tenderly cupping her cheek.
"I was in the OR all night," she said, "not doing the 36 hour days like I used to."
"You shouldn't be," he said, "Teddy what about?"
"I know," she whispered, "soon."
They walked to her office.
"Are you embarrassed," he asked.
"Unplanned pregnancy at my age is more a miracle than anything," she admitted, "but people here, my friends, don't usually see me date or have relationships. Owen, my last committed relationship was Henry. 8 years ago. I want this, I want us. I've wanted it for 20 years but I don't know how and I'm afraid I'll mess it up."
"You and me," he smiled, "there's nothing standing in our way Teddy."
"You said that before you got me pregnant," she laughed.
He smiled hearing her laugh, he loved that sound. She wasn't someone who laughed a lot so hearing that he knew she was happy.
"Since it's just us," she smiled unbuttoning her long sleeved uniform top, "I'm getting warm."
"Are you," he asked.
"Get your mind out of the gutter," she teased, "I have a T-shirt on."
"Teddy," he smiled.
"They're there," she said.
He saw the tiny beginnings of her bump.
"Can I," he asked.
"You can touch it," she said.
He placed his hand softly on her stomach and she covered it with her own. He wrapped his other arm around her and kissed her softly.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you," she smiled, "I always have."
"Tonight," he asked.
"Just us at home," she replied, "I need you all to myself. I was thinking take out and go from there?"
"Does going from there involve me getting to hold you," he asked.
"I assumed so," she smiled, "maybe a bit more."
"Is it safe," he asked.
"I asked the OB," She assured, "it's okay. We can't put weight on the peanut but as long as it feels good we're okay. I want to. I need you to touch me."
"I will," he assured, "what do you need to finish up?"
"A couple emails," she said, "it won't be long."
"I'll hang out with you then we'll go," he asked. "When I'm here teaching regular clothes or I brought uniforms."
"I switch depending on my day," she said, "I put you on the boards as major Hunt."
"Uniform then," he smiled, "I like seeing you in it. Reminds me of when we met."
"We were so young," she smiled.
"We were," he agreed.
She turned to finish her last couple emails.
"Now we can go home," she said, standing up and grabbing her bag.
"Teddy," a woman called as they walked out.
"Karen," Teddy greeted.
"Who is this," Karen asked.
"This is my," Teddy paused.
"Boyfriend," Owen said, "Owen Hunt."
"How long," Karen asked, "Teddy you mentioned you were trying long distance with a friend of yours a few months ago."
"14 weeks," Teddy smiled.
"Very precise," Karen teased.
Teddy looked at Owen and he nodded.
"I'm pregnant," Teddy said.
"What," Karen gasped, "you're? How far along?"
"16 weeks," Teddy smiled.
"That's why you haven't been coming out," Karen said.
"I have just not drinking," Teddy replied, "but Owen and my baby. "
"If you're in Seattle," Karen said.
"We have a lot to work out," Teddy said.
"I'm looking at coming back to the army," Owen said.
"Owen," Teddy asked.
"Come work for you," Owen said.
"But your mom, Megan," Teddy said.
"Baby was before or after you got together," Karen asked.
"That week," Owen said, "but things started to change when Teddy came to Seattle a year ago with my sister."
"Megan Hunt is your sister," Karen said, "I did her initial psychological assessment when she came in. Incredible woman."
"She is," Owen agreed.
"I still don't know why you had to go Teddy," Karen said.
"I wanted to coordinate between the army and Grey Sloan," Teddy replied, "and personally I was the last person she saw that day. I was the major that put her on that helicopter. I had to see her through the physical recovery and Owen and Evelyn needed me with them. I had to make sure they were okay."
"So you've been together since," Karen guessed.
"Working it out," Teddy said.
"But when," Karen asked.
"When I used sick days a few months ago," Teddy said.
"How will you," Karen asked.
"I'm coming out in February for three months," Owen said.
"I'm due at the end of March so he'll be here for the last month then I have six months so we'll take the baby to Seattle when he has to go back to work," Teddy replied, "we'll work it out as we go."
"Should we go," Owen asked sensing Teddy was uncomfortable.
"We should," she agreed, "go home get changed and figure out dinner."
"Are you hungry," Owen asked.
"Starving," Teddy said.
"Burger and both our fries or whole pizza," Owen teased.
"Whole chicken," Teddy laughed.
"Let's go," Owen said, "we can't starve the baby."
"They don't like that," Teddy agreed.
"What do you feel like," he asked.
"Chicken," she suggested, "I'll call then change and we can walk to get it and bring it home."
"Sure," he agreed.
Teddy grabbed her phone and placed double her usually order in German.
"You make such a harsh language sound so sexy," he smiled hugging her from behind.
He was here with her, she could finally let her guard down. She relaxed back into him and he softly swayed them from side to side his hands resting on her belly. She turned to kiss him.
"Karen," he asked.
"Not close," Teddy said, "single good for a beer or a glass of wine."
"Will she tell people," Owen asked.
"Unlikely," Teddy said, "she doesn't gossip. Robbins knows by the way. I asked her for recommendations when I was looking for car seats and carriers."
"Do you want a carrier," he asked, "or a stroller?"
"I'll get both," she said, "I've started ordering things. I bought a sling and a wrap carrier. I need a structured one for when they get bigger."
"We do," he said.
"I've read recommendations saying mom and dad should have their own structured ones so we can fit them to our bodies better," she said, "your shoulders are wider than mine and I'm shorter. What feels good on me might feel terrible on you."
"We'll look," he said, "do you want to try some on?"
"I'd like to before I get too big to try them on," Teddy agreed.
"This week," he asked.
"Yes," she agreed, "I'm going to change then will get our food."
"I'll walk with you," he said.
"Okay," she replied, "let me change. I just want a pair of leggings and a shirt."
"Go be comfortable," he said.
Teddy walked into her room and closed the door behind her, he wondered what she was hiding, he had seen her naked many times now, they had changed in front of each other as friends and co-workers.
"You okay," he asked when she came back out, her leggings and tank top hugging her little bump.
"I'm good," she said, "hungry."
They walked to get their dinner then brought it back to Teddy's and ate on the couch.
"So," he asked, "any ideas for baby?"
"If it's a girl I want to name her Allison," Teddy said, "and a boy Daniel."
"I know you've always wanted a little girl named Allison I just assumed," he agreed, "and Daniel for?"
"Dan," Teddy suggested, "do you like it?"
"I do," he agreed, "last name?"
"Hyphenate," she said, "we're not married and with having to travel internationally with them I want both our last names on the passport. Your's first?"
"Hunt-Altman," Owen said, "or Altman-Hunt?"
"We have time," she said, "but both our names for sure."
She put her plate on the table and leaned against him.
"You okay," he asked.
"Tired and I missed you," she smiled at him.
"Hows the peanut," he asked.
"Good I think," she said, "I want to feel them kick."
"You'll let me know," he asked.
"I will," she agreed, "you you can feel them as much as possible. They're growing and I'm getting round."
"I like it," he said, "can I? They need to know I'm here."
"Yes," she smiled.
His hand moved gently to her stomach.
"Owen are you happy," she asked.
"Very," he replied instantly, "this is what I've wanted since I met you. Us, our baby."
"On different continents," she asked.
"We'll figure it out," he assured.
"I want to email Bailey," Teddy said, "she told me that I was always welcome when I was there. I know Pierce is head of cardio but I guess I could work for a 20 something to be there with you and our baby."
"I was going to apply to come back and be placed here," he said, "we have choices. I also know Seattle Pres is looking for for a head of cardio. It's seattle."
"I don't want to not be at Grey Sloan in Seattle," Teddy replied, "I want the baby with me full time for the first year for sure. I want to breastfeed them and they have to be with me."
"I think we're all together the first six months," he said, "then when you have to go back to work I'll figure it out to be here as much as possible because you won't have a lot of leave time."
"I can't do us apart," she said, "we're going to work it out but one of us is moving. I like my job and my friends but I don't like Germany. Our baby deserves both of us every day. They deserve their dad and I need you. I want to come back to Seattle. Our baby should know your mom and Megan and play with Faroke."
"What about your career," he asked.
"You and our baby are more important," Teddy replied, "Bailey must need someone to replace Riggs."
"We do badly," he said, "and I need more hands in trauma with April wanting to do more street out reach."
"There will be a job for me," she asked, "I can't not work."
"I don't want you to have the stress of moving," he said.
"Its more stress on me for us to be apart," she said, "I need you. You're the only one who gets me, Owen you're my first call when my day sucks or when I do the most perfect surgery, you're the only person who can tell me when I'm being an ass or unreasonable."
He took a deep breath, "I think you're reacting and not thinking it through. I want us to be together and for our baby to be with both of us everyday. I don't want you to throw away something you've worked so hard to build."
"I hate Germany," she snapped, "it's a job. I can come to Seattle, work in cardio then if other positions open up move to them. I want to have time with our baby, I don't want to split time with them and time leaves and vacation time so that we can all be together but one of us is working. That's not fair to our baby. "
"Lets not decide now," he said, "lets do some research. You talk to Bailey and I'll look into coming back."
"That's easy to do," Teddy said, "I call the general and say I'm offering you a job. I need a chief of trauma and a chief of surgery, I can't do my job and chief of surgery with a baby. Owen I can't do the job I'm doing and be home for our baby. It's a single person's job, it's not a job you can do even the bare minimum with and be a good parent."
"I think I'm starting to understand," he said, "you want less hour so you can be with our baby and the three of us to be together."
"I'm not assuming we're living together right away," she said, "we've only been together 14 weeks. But we have to be in the same city. I miss the day to day patient interactions and actually doing surgery, what made me want to do this in the first place."
"I don't want you to be unhappy," he said.
"Me staying here would do that," she said, "let me talk to Bailey and see if there's anything available. I know it will just be an attending position. I've spent the last 6 years leading here. We used to talk about kids and spending time with our families. I never expected it would be our child but I don't want to be that mom that's there for a few minutes and my kids are raised by nannies."
"Kids," Owen said.
"We used to talk about big families," she said, "one more after this one maybe, see how actually having them goes. But we can always foster or adopt. I was going to look into adopting."
"You kept talking about it but never did it," he said.
"I didn't qualify," she said, "not being single in the military. I didn't have family to help me out if I had to go into the field."
"Now," he asked.
"If I stay and it's a big if," she said, "you, then Megan and Riggs."
"I thought them as back up to us," he agreed, "she would love our baby."
"She doesn't know yet," he said.
"Can we keep it quiet until we have some more decisions made," she asked, "it's Megan. She would be flying here and packing me up or to Seattle and packing you."
"We can," he said, "when?"
"I'm not really announcing at work," she said, "people will figure it out. It's getting obvious."
"I like it," he said.
"So the plan," she said, "I get in touch with Bailey about the possibility of a job. I know I can get you one here. You moving here is plan B. I will move to Seattle as soon as possible and find somewhere to live."
"With me," he said, "Teddy we need to be in the same house with our baby."
"I am not living in that house," she said, "I know you bought it before Ameila but it's her house. It was your home with her. I want to live with you but I will not start our relationship in her house."
"Okay I will put the house on the market when I get home," he agreed, "then we look together at Christmas?"
"I have to sell this," Teddy said, "figure out what I want to sell and what I want to ship."
"Do you have baby things," he asked.
"I do," she said, "once I know about a job from Bailey I'll start shipping things. I can't see why she wouldn't have a job. I'm going for equivalent salary, that will be my biggest challenge with her. I need to sell my place and my car."
"Then get new ones," he said.
"We'll work it out over Christmas," she said, "12 weeks at the most. I want less then that if possible."
"Lets say Christmas," he said, "slowly start sending things you know you want to keep to me. I have a bit of room in my suitcase."
"I'll go through and send favourites," she agreed, "but the military moved me here they have to move me home."
"We go from there," she said, "baby and I need you. They should know your mom, they only have one grandparent. Your mom is excited."
"She is," he agreed.
"She emails me every couple days to check in," Teddy smiled, "I don't want to tell her until we know the plan for me moving back and have told Megan. Megan is going to be a lot to take when she finds out."
"She is," he agreed.
"Your sister," she smiled.
"I will tell Megan when you're ready," he said.
"So it's just about time for me to go to bed," she said, "do you want to be with me? The guest room? Together in the guest room? Not ready to sleep?"
"What time do you get up," he asked.
"Five," she said, "it's after 9. I like to be in bed by 10. I need more sleep right now than I ever have."
"I'm tired," he said, "you're most comfortable in your own bed. Do you want me with you?"
"I want you to hold me," she said, "hold us."
"All night," he assured.
They quickly got ready for bed and she snuggled into him, her head on his chest listening to his heartbeat and one of her legs thrown over his.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too," she replied, giving him a kiss.
