"Ready," Teddy asked, "you haven't seen them yet."
"I'm excited," Owen replied, taking her hand, "are you okay?"
"This isn't the most comfortable but I want to see our peanut," she smiled.
"What can I do," he asked.
"Nothing until I can pee," Teddy said.
"So do this fast," he asked.
"Yes," Teddy replied.
The ultrasound technician came in, "Major Altman, are you ready?"
"Yes," Teddy replied.
"Who did you bring with you today," the technician asked, "you usually come alone."
"Dr or Major Owen Hunt," Teddy replied, "my boyfriend and the baby's father."
"Are you ready to see your little one," the technician asked.
"Yes," Owen said.
"I want to hear the heartbeat right away," Teddy said, "I want the sound on the whole time."
"We will," the technician agreed, "ma'am I need you to move your clothing out of the way."
"Of course," Teddy said, moving her clothes out of the way.
"Ready," the technician asked.
"Yes," Teddy replied.
"It's going to be cool," the technician said before putting the gell on Teddy's belly.
"Woah," Owen said, hearing the sound of the baby's heart.
"They sound good," Teddy smiled, whipping tears from her eyes, "it's perfect."
The technician turned the screen towards Teddy and Owen.
"Teddy," he breathed, "she's perfect."
"She," Teddy asked.
"It's a girl," Owen said, "we're having a baby girl."
"A daughter," she smiled.
"Our daughter," he beamed, giving Teddy a gentle kiss, "she's beautiful."
"She looks great," Teddy agreed, "we have a baby girl. Owen, we have a daughter."
"Ma'am," the technician said, not wanting to interrupt the moment between her boss and the red headed man.
"You can continue," Teddy replied.
"So we saw the gender," the technician said, "the heart beat looks good. She's measuring right on track. It'll send it all over to your OB."
"Thank you," Teddy replied.
"We're done here," the technician said.
"Thank you ," Teddy replied.
When the technician had left the room and Owen cleaned the gell off her bump gently.
Teddy sat up and hugged him, "our daughter."
"A baby girl," he agreed before kissing her.
"Washroom then we see my OB," Teddy said.
After the appointment they walked back to Teddy's and sat on her couch.
"It's a girl," he smiled.
"I know," she beamed, snuggling into him.
"She looked good," he smiled.
"She does," Teddy agreed, "and she's really moving."
His hands joined hers to feel their baby move, "she gets stronger every day."
"She does," Teddy agreed, "she moves a lot it feels different. I like it and I know the more she moves the better and the stronger she'll be."
"Is she moving enough," he asked.
"I'll tell you if she's not," Teddy promised, "you saw her. You heard her heart for the first time."
"You were crying," he said, pulling her to him and kissing the top of her hair.
"I do every time," she admitted, "I like hearing it.
"It's the best thing I've ever heard," he said.
She nodded in agreement.
"Time to tell our families," Teddy said, "send the pictures."
Owen grabbed his phone and sent the images to his mom and Megan, "we're having a baby girl. She's gorgeous."
Megan, "a girl! It's a girl!"
Teddy, "it is."
Evelyn, "I can finally go get yarn and fabric for a quilt. I'm so happy for all of you."
Megan, "she's cute."
Evelyn, "she's going to be beautiful. How are you Teddy?"
Teddy, "excited. I can't wait to meet her."
Owen texted Megan, "I don't know how I'm going to come home and wait a month for Teddy to come."
Megan, "make it work."
Owen, "she's moving to Seattle."
Megan, "why?"
Owen, "she wants to be closer to you and mom and her sister. She wants to be with family. We want our baby to grow up near family."
Megan ,"she's made up with Marilyn."
Owen, "they talked on facetime on her birthday and it went well Teddy was happy."
Teddy texted Marilyn," it's a girl!"
Marilyn, "a girl. Names?"
Teddy, "we haven't talked about that yet. I want Eleanor as a middle name for mom."
Marilyn, "mom would like that. Teddy, she's beautiful!"
Teddy, "I want to hold her. Seeing her, knowing I have a little girl. I just want to know her and who she's going to be."
Marilyn, "you will. And so soon. It'll go fast."
Teddy, "I want you to come meet her and help me tell her about mom and dad."
Marilyn, "I will and you'll bring her to see me and Rob and our baby so the kids can know each other."
Teddy, "we will. The mom chose you."
Marilyn, "we got the papers last night. We just have to sign the agreement with our lawyer."
Teddy, "I'm happy for you. You're going to be a good mom and I need your help."
Marilyn, "trust yourself. You have so much love for people your baby already knows how much her mommy loves her."
Teddy put her phone down and got off the couch.
"Where are you going," he asked.
"Making dinner," she said, "I'm hungry."
"What's for dinner," he asked.
"Pasta," she replied, "something quick and easy."
"I can cook," he said.
"I like to," she smiled, "you can cook with me."
"What do you need," he asked.
"I'm just going to cook some sausages and cut them up to put in the pasta, I have the stuff to make sauce from scratch or a jar," she said.
"What's easy for you," he asked.
"The jar," she admitted.
"Lets use that and add some spices to it," he said.
"Owen what happens if our baby has special needs," she asked, "they want to do an amnio because of my age but I don't want to. The risks and…"
He interrupted her, "she is our daughter, no matter what."
"If she is," Teddy asked.
"Do we want to do the test and get the information," he asked, "you're stressing and it's not like you to decline testing."
"I don't want to know," she said, "I know that I will love her no matter what. But I'm worried if there is something you would walk away."
"No," he said taking her in his arms, "I will be here. She is our daughter. We will do everything we can to make her as happy and healthy as possible. We will love her for exactly who she is."
"And if we don't agree on how to do it," she asked.
"We talk about it," he replied, "we will work it out. We're doing pretty good so far. Teddy I want to do the testing so we know as much about our little girl as possible."
"I'll let them do my blood work but I don't want a needle going into my belly," Teddy said, "the risks for her. I don't want to. She's our miracle baby, our one in a million chance and I'm not risking it."
"Okay," he agreed, "she is a miracle. That we made her in one night."
"You were here a week," she said.
"But we got condoms after the first night," he answered.
"Too little too late," she laughed, "I had given up on ever being able to have my own."
"So had I," he replied, "I was just going to spoil Faroke as much as I could."
"Like Megan would let you," Teddy said.
"Christmas," Owen said.
"I know," Teddy smiled, "we need to figure our nephew out."
"Our," he asked.
"Megan calls me his aunt when I'm on the phone with her so," Teddy replied, "and if we're together."
"What do ten year old boys like," he asked.
"You were one," she said, "sports? Lego? Video games?"
"Megan won't let us do video games," he said, "she wants him to play."
"Lego," Teddy suggested, "something for him to build and play with. Some of my friends here have kids the same age and they have these lego robots they connect to their ipads and code them to drive all over the room and pick up things."
"We could do that," he said, "something to make him think and build. And a soccer ball."
"I'm sure Megan bought one for him already," she replied, "he's on a team."
"So lego robot," he said, "you research I'll order it from Amazon and have it sent to my house."
"Okay," she said.
They finished making dinner together and ate making plans for their daughter and all the things they wanted to do with her and teach her. Family vacations and camping trips, hiking, skiing and beach days. Owen dreamed of holding their daughter in the gallery and showing her how brilliant her mother was. Teddy smiled imagining a little girl with red pigtails racing through the house with her dad's big heart and boundless energy always talking back and arguing for what she felt was right and having to defend those around her. She saw her daughter with Megan's sass and insight, but Teddy hoped that she would be able to teach her little girl the most important thing, to love deeply and with her whole heart. She already loved this little girl more than she ever thought possible, she loved the baby growing below her heart, hearing every time her mother's heart beat. She loved this little girl who she hadn't even met yet.
"Teddy," Owen asked.
"Just thinking," Teddy said, "how amazing she's going to be."
"As amazing as her mom," he said.
"She'll be a daddy's girl," she said, "and you'll be wrapped around her little finger and will never say no to her."
"I already am," he said, "I just want both of you to be happy and healthy."
"We will be," she said, "we just have to get to Seattle."
"A month," he said.
"A month," she sighed, "we can do one more month. You go home tomorrow. I don't want you to go."
"I don't want to," he said.
"We'll make it work," she said.
"You'll call me every day," he said.
"I will," she promised.
"And I'll meet you at the airport and bring you home," he said.
"That house," she said.
"It's on the market and we can move to something we both love as soon as we find it," he said.
"What about a hotel," she said.
"A hotel isn't a home," he said, "I can ask my mom?"
"We can't put her out," she argued.
"She'd love to have us," he promised.
"Okay," she agreed.
