"Mom," Owen said when Evelyn picked up on the first ring.
"How's Teddy doing," Evelyn asked, "do you guys need something?"
"It's a girl," Owen said, "Allison Caroline Elanor Hunt. 11:15 last night. It was too late to call by the time we were ready."
"How's she doing,' Evelyn asked.
"Allison is perfect, six pounds 4 ounces," Owen said, "19 inches long."
"It's a girl," Evelyn called seeing Megan come into the room, "Allison Caroline Elanor Hunt. 11:15pm last night. 6 pounds 4 ounces 19 inches."
"Let's go," Megan yelled running back upstairs to get dressed.
"Can you come in about an hour," Owen asked, "Teddy is just about to shower and needs to eat, Allison will need to be fed."
"We'll come in a bit," Evelyn said, "if Teddy is hungry what does she want?"
"We have breakfast coming," he said, "but if you could bring her a decaf vanilla latte."
"Lunch," Evelyn asked.
"She's saying she wants sushi but I'll order it. I know a place that delivers it to the hospital," Owen said.
"Is she okay," Evelyn asked.
"Exhausted," Owen replied, "she's half asleep with Allison in her arms."
"You sound happy," Evelyn said.
"They're perfect," Owen beamed.
"Owen," Evelyn asked.
He stepped into the hall, "it's the best thing I've ever seen. Teddy and Allison. She's tired and needs rest but that won't happen until we're discharged."
"Which will be," Evelyn asked.
"Tomorrow," Owen replied, "her age they want to observe her. She's bleeding a bit more than Carina would like. Not an emergency but we're watching."
"Should she be up," Evelyn asked.
"She wants a shower and for her mental health," Owen said, "Teddy is miserable when she can't shower. She hasn't yet, I'm surprised she's made it this long."
"Allison," Evelyn asked.
"Asleep on Teddy," Owen said.
"Have you had time with her," Evelyn asked.
"Some," Owen said, "some skin to skin. I will when Teddy showers."
"Go take care of them. We'll be there in an hour and a half or so," Evelyn said, "with Teddy's latte."
Owen said goodbye and hung up.
"What did they say," Teddy asked.
"They'll be here soon," Owen said, "about 90 minutes. Can I take her and you can shower."
"Are you telling me I smell as bad as I feel," she asked.
"No," he gasped, "I just know you feel better after a shower. Teddy I just want you to be comfortable."
"She's nuzzling again," Teddy whispered.
"Feed her and I'll find your breakfast," Owen said.
"It hurts," Teddy admitted.
"What hurts," Owen asked.
"Everything but it's supposed to be normal," Teddy said, "I'm exhausted."
"That was a lot of work," Owen said, "you amaze me."
"Stop sucking up," she laughed.
Bailey knocked at the door, "hello?"
"Miranda," Teddy forced a smile.
"I heard this little one had arrived," Bailey said, "and Hunt your needed in the pit."
"I just had a baby," Owen said.
"Altman just gave birth," Bailey said, "how is baby girl?"
"Allison Caroline Eleanor Hunt," Teddy said, "this is dr Bailey."
"Hunt your in scrubs go to the pit," Bailey barked.
"Why," Owen asked.
"Because I need some one to run it," Bailey snapped.
"Richard is doing it," Owen said, "he's covering my leave."
"Richard Webber, Meredith Grey and Alex Karev no longer work here," Bailey snapped.
"Why," Teddy asked.
"Your on maternity leave," Bailey said.
"Why don't they work here," Teddy asked.
"I fired them," Bailey barked, "hunt we've got an incoming."
"Megan," Teddy proposed, "it's our department we can give Megan hunt privileges and Riggs has them."
"Bailey, can I go after Teddy showers," Owen asked, "I don't want her and Allison alone."
"I need him here," Teddy argued.
"your family ," Bailey offered.
"How about you go do the trauma and I'll stay with my family " Owen said.
"I have to deal with illegal activity," Bailey barked, "Hunt go."
"Bailey," Teddy tried, "she's not even 24 hours old she needs both of us."
"Hunt go now," Bailey said, "I have one of my heads of trauma in a hospital bed the other can go work."
"I'm not going to be alone with Allison her first day of life," Teddy snapped, "call April she's in Seattle. Bailey you can do traumas. Go be a doctor, today I am a patient and Owen is my support person and advocate."
"Call family to come be with you," Bailey said, "or learn to be alone with your daughter Altman."
"I'm not going," Owen said, "I'm on paternity leave. We just had a baby."
"Congratulations now Paternity leave is temporarily suspended for an incoming trauma," Bailey barked.
"Give us a minute and I will go down," Owen said, "a resident can get it started and I'll meet them in the OR if its surgical."
Bailey marched out of the room, "five minutes maximum."
"We'll be okay," Teddy whined.
"Page me if you need me," Owen said, "I'm going to try to pass it off if I can and call April."
Half an hour later Megan and Evelyn walked in with snacks, presents and coffee.
"Where's Owen," Megan asked.
"He got pulled to a trauma because Bailey fired half the general surgeons," Teddy snapped.
"I'm a trauma surgeon," Megan said, "get me privileges."
"As co head of trauma I say yes," Teddy replied.
"You relax sweetheart," Evelyn said.
Allison began to fuss in Teddy's arms.
"Diaper then feed," Teddy thought aloud.
"I'll do her diaper," Evelyn offered.
"Give me a second to get up," Teddy said.
"Teddy let me help," Evelyn said, "I've got the diaper. We have a decaf latte for you."
Evelyn scooped the baby out of Teddy's arms and took her to the changing table to do her diaper.
"Hi baby girl," Megan smiled at the baby, "you're gorgeous."
"She is," Teddy agreed.
A resident ran into the room, "Dr Hunt the other Dr Hunt is looking for you in OR 4."
"Show me where to go," Megan said.
"She'll trade with Owen," Teddy guessed.
"Okay mommy here's your baby back," Evelyn said, "she was dirty."
"Her first poop then," Teddy replied.
"She's all clean now," Evelyn said.
"I think she's hungry," Teddy said.
"How are you feeding her," Evelyn asked.
"I'm trying to breastfeed her," Teddy replied.
"Okay do you want me to go or are you okay," Evelyn asked.
"Can you not look," Teddy asked.
"Of course," Evelyn said, "I've got some snacks and treats here for you. Why don't I get that organised."
"Thank you," Teddy nodded, "Okay Allie baby are you hungry? Should we try to eat again. We've done this three times now. That's it, there's my girl. We can do this with out daddy's help right."
"Teddy," Evelyn asked.
"She's latched," Teddy said, "now I get to smile at her and watch her."
"It's a nice moment," Evelyn agreed, "holding them that close."
"Once she's fed she needs grandma time," Teddy said.
"I can't wait," Evelyn said, "how are you feeling?"
"I'm tired," Teddy said, "I didn't expect that."
"You really weren't feeling well at my house yesterday," Evelyn said.
"I was having cramps when we got there and they turned into contractions but I didn't think it was that serious until my water broke. I had happened the two days before then we would eat or I would move around a little and they slowed down," Teddy said.
"Joyce was wondering but only Owen could get close to you," Evelyn said.
"I just wanted him," Teddy agreed, "he makes me feel safe and loved."
"Do you want your latte sweetheart," Evelyn asked, "have you eaten? Had enough to drink?"
"Eaten and drank but I really need a shower," Teddy said.
"Feed her then I can hold her while you shower," Evelyn offered, "I need to bond with her."
"She needs her grandma," Teddy agreed, "I need to call a nurse to sit in the room while I shower the first time. It's ridiculous."
"Just in case you get dizzy or fall," Evelyn said.
"I know I do it to my patients as well," Teddy replied, "I know it's what they do all the time but I work here."
"It's your dignity," Evelyn agreed.
Teddy gazed at Allison in her arms, taking in her baby's face and the little hand that was resting on her chest, Teddy traced the little fingers with her own pinkie.
"You are perfect baby girl," Teddy whispered, "I love you so much."
"In love with her," Evelyn asked.
"I had no clue," Teddy replied, "I had heard that it was instant and powerful but this I didn't expect. You can turn around now. I just didn't want you to see the initial setup."
Evelyn turned to Teddy, "is she doing okay?"
"She seems to be," Teddy replied, "the nurse that checked us early this morning said we were okay. A consultant is going to come by this afternoon and check in. But I researched and I think we're okay. I just like looking at her."
"It's magical," Evelyn agreed, "she looks relaxed with you."
"I'm all she knows," Teddy said, "she's had some snuggles with Owen but she seems more relaxed with me."
"She knows your voice and the sound of your heart," Evelyn said, "your smell."
"I think she fell asleep eating again," Teddy said.
"Megan used to," Evelyn said, "if you feel like she needs to have more try stroking her nose, it used to wake Megan up to finish eating."
Teddy tried running her pinkie along Allison's nose and the baby startled.
"Ohh baby girl did I wake you up," Teddy asked, "do you want to eat some more?"
"Try," Evelyn encouraged.
"Can you turn," Teddy asked.
"I can," Evelyn agreed, "I know how hard and awkward this is. Sweetheart, I'm here to love you and support you."
"She's done, she's asleep again," Teddy said, "just need to cover up."
Evelyn nodded.
"Grandma do you want to come hold her," Teddy offered.
"I do," Evelyn agreed.
"Allison Caroline Elanor Hunt this is grandma," Teddy smiled at her daughter.
Owen came back in.
"You're back," Teddy smiled.
"I passed it off to Meg," Owen replied, "you need me more, she has privileges here."
"Just in time to pass her to your mom," Teddy replied, "she ate a little bit again."
"How is she doing," Owen asked.
"Changed, fed and asleep," Teddy said, "I still need a shower but she's meeting grandma for the first time."
"Mom," Owen said, "are you ready?"
"I am," Evelyn smiled.
Owen lifted Allison out of Teddy's arms and placed her in Evelyn's.
"Hello gorgeous," Evelyn smiled cuddling the little girl close, "hi baby. Welcome to the world. I'm grandma."
Tears pooled in Everlyn's eyes as she gazed at the baby.
"Are you," Owen started to ask Teddy.
"Evelyn do you mind if I shower," Teddy asked.
"No darling," Evelyn replied, "go shower you always feel better afterwards."
"I do,' Teddy agreed, "I'm really gross."
"Have a shower," Evelyn said.
Owen paged a nurse and helped Teddy up.
"I can move," Teddy argued.
"Teddy let us help you," Evelyn said.
"I can walk to the bathroom," Teddy argued.
"You can,' Evelyn agreed.
"Owen is this what you want," Evelyn asked once they heard the shower running.
"It is," Owen said.
"I know we've talked about it," Evelyn said, "I was hoping to get you alone. I brought you my ring. The one that's been passed down in our family. When you're ready I want you to give it to Teddy."
"Mom," Owen said.
"It's time that ring is hers," Evelyn said, "your going to propose?"
"I will," Owen assured.
Allison began to fuss.
"Come here princess," Owen said, taking his daughter back from Evelyn.
Owen held her close against his shoulder and rocked her gently. Evelyn beamed seeing her son with his daughter. Owen had wanted this since he was young and he finally had it with his best friend.
Teddy rejoined them in her own pyjamas.
"Allison," Teddy smiled at her baby, "are you happy with daddy?"
"She's fussed," Owen said.
"The world is new," Evelyn said.
"You're okay," Teddy assured, "you're with daddy. We love you, yes we do."
"I'm going to go," Evelyn said, "you two need to bond with her and I'll come see you tomorrow when you get home. I'm going to make a few things for you so you don't have to cook."
"Thank you," Teddy nodded, "thank you for coming to see us."
They said their good byes and Evelyn gave Allison another hug and kiss before leaving.
Teddy sat back on the bed and laid Allison in her lap just staring at her baby. Owen sat beside her with one arm around Teddy and one finger slipped into Allison's little fist.
"She's got you wrapped around her little finger already," Teddy teased.
"She does," Owen agreed.
"She's here and she's ours," Teddy said, smiling at Owen.
"She is," Owen said.
They sat in silence for a while just watching Allison sleep.
"Hey Altman," Owen said, "we had a baby."
"We did," Teddy smiled putting her head on his shoulder.
