Megan came into Teddy's room after her surgery, "thanks for that Eeyore I needed a good case. I haven't had anything that fun in a while."
Owen met her at the door so they could talk in the hall.
"Glad you enjoyed it," Owen said, "thanks for covering for me."
"You needed to be with your wife and child," Megan replied.
"Who are both asleep," Owen whispered. He decided to ignore Megan calling Teddy his wife. He would propose it just had to be perfect first. This was Teddy. He had loved her for decades. It had to be perfect.
"Just closing my eyes," Teddy mumbelled, "I'm awake."
Owen and Megan stepped in.
"Can I see her while I wait for mom or Nate to come get me," Megan asked.
"You can," Teddy smiled, "if you can get her away from Owen."
"She's still in her bed," Owen replied, "I wanted both of you to nap. You hardly slept the last two nights."
"Go ahead Megan," Teddy nodded, "watch her head."
Megan gently lifted the baby out of the bassinet, "hello gorgeous girl. I'm Auntie Megan."
Owen stood protectively beside them.
"Stand down Hunt," Teddy laughed, "it's Megan. Allison is okay."
"She doesn't leave this room," Owen grumbelled.
"They're not," Teddy replied.
"Only took you what about 18 hours to become the protective dad," Megan teased.
"Try 5 minutes," Teddy replied.
Allison began to stir in Megan's arms.
"Are you waking up," Megan whispered, "did auntie wake you up?"
Allison whimpered.
"Megan," Teddy said.
"She's okay," Megan replied, rocking the baby gently.
"Megan," Teddy repeated.
"I've got her," Megan said, "your dinner should be here any second I saw the car in the hall."
"Megan," Teddy said a third time, "Allison needs me."
"Let's do her diaper first," Owen replied, "Megan you need to give her back to us."
"She's settling," Megan said, "I think she just knew she was moved."
"Megan," Teddy demanded, "give her back."
"Mommy wants you," Megan said to Allison, "she's a baby hog."
"Megan," Owen sighed, "Teddy is exhausted. I think she's had 4 hours of sleep in the last three days."
"All the more reason to let me hold Allison and you two can rest," Megan said.
Allison whined again.
"No she needs to be fed," Teddy replied, "tomorrow why don't you Nate and Faroke come to our house before your flight."
"She's gorgeous," Megan said over the fussing baby.
"She is," Teddy replied, "but she needs me."
"I can try to calm her," Megan offered.
"No I haven't even gotten to feed her," Owen said, "let Teddy do it."
"I can hang out," Megan offered.
"Can you come back in 20 minutes," Teddy tried.
"Megan, come see us at home tomorrow before your flight. You fly out at 6 so are at the airport at 4," Owen directed, "this is not good for Teddy or Allison right now. They need to be calm and quiet."
Teddy hating to be in the middle of the siblings made a suggestion, "why don't you, your mom and Riggs bring Fraroke after dinner to say hi for a few minutes let me have a nap and us to bond with Allison."
"We'll be back in an hour," Megan said, "Riggs is picking me up with Faroke we'll go get something to eat and come back."
"Okay," Teddy agreed, "let me feed Allison and eat."
With the baby fed and having eaten dinner Teddy called her sister.
"Teddy," Marilyn answered.
"We'll send you pictures," Teddy smiled, "she's here. Allison Caroline Eleanor Hunt. She's perfect."
"When," Marilyn asked.
"11:15 last night. She's doing well, we can go home tomorrow," Teddy replied.
"Can I come up tomorrow and meet her," Marilyn asked.
"Yes," Teddy agreed, "Mar she's perfect."
"I bet she is," Marilyn agreed, "Theodora you're a mom."
"I'm a mom," Teddy agreed.
"What does she look like," Marilyn asked, "how big?"
"Six pounds, 4 ounces, 19 inches," Teddy said, "she has green eyes."
"Like yours," Marilyn asked.
"We think so and reddish fuzz on her head," Teddy said, "she's still all red and scrunched up. Owen's holding her and it's the cutest thing I've ever seen."
"Teddy, are you getting soft on me," Marilyn asked.
"It's my daughter," Teddy smiled, "Mar she's gorgeous."
"How are you," Marilyn asked.
"Ready to go home," Teddy said, "I just want to be home with her and Owen."
"Take your baby girl, curl up on the couch and read to her," Marilyn asked.
"Like mom read to us," Teddy replied.
"Is she eating," Marilyn asked.
"She is," Teddy replied, "and making a mess in her diaper."
"What can I bring tomorrow," Marilyn asked.
"The two of you," Teddy said, "I want you to read to her. I'm sure you do the voices like mom did."
"I do," Marilyn said, "I can do all the voices."
"I want to sing to her but I feel silly," Teddy said.
"No you sing and you talk and read," Marilyn said, "hold her and let her hear your voice that's the best thing you can do for her to learn language."
"What do I need to do to help her learn language," Teddy asked.
"Talk," Marilyn said, "let her hear your voices. Tell her what your doing when you do things with her even narrate changing her diaper."
"Using the proper terms," Teddy asked, "research said."
"Don't baby talk body parts," Marilyn said, "talk to her."
"She's asleep right now," Teddy said.
"I'm going to let you enjoy her and come see you tomorrow," Marilyn said.
"Are you sure," Teddy asked, "it's mid week. We understand if you have to work."
"Theodora Grace Atman I'm coming," Marilyn declared.
"We'll see you tomorrow," Teddy agreed.
Teddy hung up her phone and looked at Owen, "we'll have a full house tomorrow."
"Good," Owen smiled at their daughter, "she should know her family. Your sister comes but doesn't stay with us."
"Do we even have food for people," Teddy asked.
"We have some food," Owen said, "that's what skip the dishes and online grocery orders are for."
"I'm fine for a little bit if you want to run and get groceries and take them home," Teddy offered.
"I'm going to stay with you," Owen smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"She's looking for mommy," Teddy said.
"You want her back," Owen said.
"I do," Teddy agreed.
"Here she is," Owen said, placing the baby back in Teddy's arms.
"Hi baby," Teddy beamed, "hi. Mommy has you."
Owen put his arms around Teddy, "now I can hold both of you."
"You can," she smiled, resting her head on his shoulder and looking up at him.
After dinner Megan came back with Nathan and Faroke.
"Hi," Teddy greeted.
"Come meet her," Owen invited.
"Who is this," Nathan asked.
"Allison Caroline Elanor Hunt," Owen said, "our daughter."
"Congrats mate," Nathan said, "you and Teddy you finally made it work."
"We've been together nine months now," Owen said.
"But you wanted this forever," Nathan said.
"Faroke would you like to come meet your cousin," Teddy offered.
"Mom," Faroke asked.
"Go sit with Auntie Teddy," Megan encouraged.
"I still like being called Auntie," Teddy said.
"Mom is better," Megan countered.
"Different but both feel good," Teddy said, "our family."
"Our family," Megan agreed.
Faroke sat beside Teddy, "she's pretty."
"Would you like to hold her," Teddy offered.
"Can I," Faroke asked.
"Yes," Teddy answered, "watch her head."
Teddy helped Faroke hold his little cousin.
"Cousins," Megan smiled at the pair.
"What's a cousin," Faroke asked.
Megan translated the word into arabic for Faroke who broke into a broad grin.
"What do you think mate," Nathan asked.
"She's pretty and little," Faroke said, "can she play baseball soon?"
"It'll be a couple years yet," Nathan said, "she doesn't even know how to walk yet or hold up her own head."
"Can she talk," Faroke asked.
"Not yet," Teddy said, "she'll walk and talk in about a year."
"What's her favourite food," Faroke asked.
"Milk," Owen said.
"Mate I'm going to take her and say hello," Nathan said.
Nathan lifted up the baby and held her close, "hi Allison I'm uncle Nathan. I've known your daddy and mommy for a very long time. Hunt, Altman she's gorgeous."
"She is," Owen agreed, "my daughter."
"One day," Megan said, "I need to heal a bit first."
"You do," Teddy agreed, "but it's pretty wonderful Meg. Meeting her for the first time."
"You look happy," Megan agreed, "tired but happy."
"We're exhausted," Owen agreed, "we didn't sleep much last night."
"Or the night before," Teddy replied.
"You go home tomorrow," Nathan confirmed.
"We do," Owen said, "everything looked good when Deluca and Hays checked in just before dinner. And we're good to go tomorrow."
"Our bed," Teddy smiled, "my own pillow."
"Where does Allison sleep," Megan asked.
"We have a bassinet in our room," Teddy replied, "it's at the foot of our bed."
"For now," Megan said, "she'll move closer to you."
"She will," Teddy replied.
"How are you guys for food," Nathan asked.
"I've done an online grocery order to be delivered at noon and we're discharged at 9," Owen said, "then we have some frozen stuff. And there's always take out."
"My favourite way to cook," Teddy teased.
"You don't cook," Megan looked shocked.
"I do and I can," Teddy said, "I prefer baking but when we've been busy and I'm tired takeout works. It was great when we lived with your mom. She made dinner."
"Mom likes to fuss," Megan said, "now. When we were kids."
"She knew what she was doing," Teddy replied, "she raised two incredible people. I'll need her advice."
"Mom will be happy to," Megan agreed.
Allison began to fuss so Megan's family said goodbye and slipped out of the room.
"Tomorrow we take her home," Teddy said, "she gets to go home and we're really a family."
"We are," Owen agreed, "the three of us."
"Are we ready," Teddy asked.
"We are," Owen assured, "and we're doing it together. We can always do it together."
"We can," Teddy smiled, "we always have."
"We always will," Owen agreed, "now there's the three of us."
"We can do it together," Teddy agreed.
